omonnakoda: I don't accept that. You have not given REASONS WHY it is the so called RIGHT STEP Geography and terrain would determine whether it is reasonable. I have not checked but I doubt very much that a country as large as the USA and such like would have a connected grid. Power is lost as it travels so a connected grid over a large area would only waste power.
Other factors like terrain, climate and security would all conspire to make that unrealistic.
If you believe it is the RIGHT STEP please tell us WHY
One good reason why it is a superior choice to 4 or 6 separate grids That's the problem. "You doubt" it. Pls stop quessing. Power loss is greatly minimized by transformers already so stop guessing on a topic you do not understand. What you should press for is prioritizing of areas that supply more power into the grid when power is being distributed? As for you grid question, reliability and robustness it is. |

omonnakoda: That is one option but there is no Divine law that says we MUST have an interconnected transmission system a connected grid is the right step to follow and every nation has it. |

StOla: Tell me how many megawatts of electricity the GEJ regime added.
I know for a FACT that the OBJ regime celebrated 4000MW of electricity towards the end of 2006. I was surprised to see that the GEJ regime also celebrated the same 4000MW of electricity towards end of 2014.
It felt like a de javu. Who is deceiving who between the previous 4000MW and the GEJ version 2.0?
The current government has also announced that for the 1st time in the history of Nigeria, we have surpassed 5000MW installed capacity.
Let us see what they would attain in 4years even with crude oil selling below $50 per barrel.
One advice I would give to the Buhari regime is to make sure that the notorious and perennial power contractor, Sir Emeka Offor is made persona non grata as regards any future power contracts. He got loads of these contracts under OBJ, he also got same under GEJ, and we repeated 4000MW twice between 2006 and 2014, instead of moving forward. This doesn't change the fact that Fashola is a misfit as a power minister. The man thinks Nigeria is lagos where he can generate power in one street and transmit to another street for use. Large power plants takes much more time and money to build for a start. These plants Need dedicated pipeline network that span the length and breadth of this country for fuel supply. They also need a interconnected transmission system that covers long distances. |

omonnakoda: This is childish talk. What does this mean?I am not a Fashola supporter .If he fails he fails being a lawyer is irrelevant I just gave the examples of virtually all the important economies and several of them have lawyers,The US currently do not have a lawyer but they have had. A ministerial job is a political job not a technical one. In most of Europe you cannot be a Minister if you are not elected as a legislator(MP) first . People elect people to represent them and not to do technical jobs. The Minister is there to represent the President who was elected and the Cabinet could be shuffled at any time meaning all Ministers should be capable of managing all ministries and that is how it works Fashola remains a misfit in power. |

omonnakoda: And how is it the work of an Engineer? Why is a Teacher good enough in Germany, a lawyer in France, A graduate of international relations in Japan and an economics graduate in the UK , Economics graduate in South Korea In India he is a lawyer and also a qualified accountant
Are we to believe these countries are short of engineers The problem with giving Power ministry to a lawyer is that you never know what you are missing. Fashola will sure strive to acheive the little he can and as usual celebrate it wildly via propaganda. |

Besides, point of correction government was never subsidizing for importers. The effect being felt now is simply because rates have spiraled out of control. Please enough of the defense of this rubbish government. Please. People like you are why we are where we are as a country - never demanding good governance but rather defending individuals. Continue. This is the time for exporters who av been suffering the effect of subsidized dollar to build houses and buy car. Imagine all the years cassava starch, charcoal, cocoa exporter have been exchanging their dollar at a low rate just because govt was busy heavily subsidizing it for importers and their customers in their bid to impress Nigerians. We spent $217bn on dollar subsidy in 12yrs. |

That's what makes us Nigerians. The downside of being resilient is we keep taking more and more sh.it from the politicians without doing anything. Also, unfortunately we've gone down the route of tribalism and become even more divided lately. meanwhile he should forget about the 29 billion dollars loan.... let him use that which he helped Abacha loot If you had bother to read the article you would have discovered that the alleged secret payment started in 2009. For Buhari to return the economy to how it was handed over to him is for him to leave it in a decline because we were already borrowing before Buhari came in. |
