http://saharareporters.com/2014/07/07/nigerian-troops-clear-terrorists-bases-balmo-forest-capture-foreign-mercenaries Troops have cleared and taken over Balmo forest in a military operation that lasted throughout the weekend. Prior to the operation, Balmo forest stretching from Bauchi through Jigawa States with links to the fringes of Sambisa forest was used by terrorists as bases and hideouts for launching attacks. In the latest twist in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram terrorists, the Nigerian military announced that it has conducted major breakthrough just hours ago. In a statement issued to the media, and one also obtained by SaharaReporters, military spokesmen say their persistence has paid off in the continuing fight. “In another development, over 44 terrorists have died in Kerenoa and adjoining communities, following an encounter with troops who repelled their attack on the communities. Armed with IEDs and other high caliber weapons, a large number of terrorists had carried out a predawn attack on the communities but met with stiff resistance of the troops. During the operation, several of them were captured as well as weapons and ammunitions of various calibre. “Meanwhile, troops on routine patrol around Banki and Miyanti in Borno State during the weekend fought through an ambush laid by terrorists resulting in casualties on both sides. Altogether, a total of 6 soldiers were lost in the various encounters with terrorists during the weekend while those wounded are receiving treatment. These recent developments, if completely true, indicate a major boost for a military force seen as inept by many in the international armed forces community. More details of this latest development will surface in the coming hours. |

Also the Obas son that was formerly appointed by him just decamped to pdp trust me it is almost over for APC in the state. The local government election magic is beginning to hunt the guy. Right now APC has just 14 out of 24 members of the House and I'm sure more will join him As for that impeachment it has to be illegal since they all the members of the HOA where not present |

http://saharareporters.com/news-page/labour-party-members-perfect-plans-defect-pdp political tsunami is ready to hit members of the Labour Party government in Ondo State, as some key members of the party have perfected plans to defect to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party at any moment. The members include some Lawmakers from the State House of Assembly, SaharaReporters has learned. At a secretly held meeting on Friday afternoon in Akure, the capital city, the disgruntled party members resolved to move out of the Labour Party, to join the Peoples Democratic Party. A SaharaReporters correspodent learned that the meeting was held in one of the aggrieved lawmakers homes where they had perfected a plan of moving out from the Labour Party. At the meeting, they accused the Governor of the state, Olusegun Mimiko, of playing what they called, ‘partisan politics,’ by romancing the Peoples Democratic Party at the Federal level, while at the state level, also pretending to be a loyal member of the Labour Party. It is a perception that has deeply annoyed the long-time Labour members. According to the grouping, Mimiko is down-playing the Labour Party, at the state level, while wanting to be seen as a 'Godfather,' by ordering and making sure all his political orders work accordingly. One ‘School of thought’ among the lawmakers in the State had named him Mimiko a 'Lone Ranger,' whose political sting is dangerous, when it comes to Political activity and his perceived adversaries in the state. This action, they said, wouldn't work with them, and it might not be possible for them to withstand again, thus their defection plans. It was learned that the lawmakers planning this mutiny might already number six with more ready to defect. The House of Assembly has only one current member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Lubi Akpoebi Ebielatei, representing the Ese Odo Constituency area of the state. Gaining at least six new members on the PDP side of the aisle would be a political game changer in the assembly. The six lawmakers are said to have already met with Lubi Akpoebi Ebielatei, and other state officials of the PDP informing them on their plans to defect to their party. Sources close to the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Ayo Fadaka, had also confirmed the lawmakers plan to defect. It is now a question of when. Another source said arrangements had already been ‘put in place’ to receive the disgruntled Labour party members. If the six lawmakers defected, the Peoples Democratic Party will have a total of Seven members in the State House of Assembly. Sources told SaharaReporters that the lawmakers are the so-called ‘strong parliamentary members’ of the House, and they belong to the camp that opposed the governor’s choice of the new Female Speaker. Benson Enikuomehin Benson Enikuomehin, the former Commissioner of the Niger Delta Development Commission in the state, had resigned from the Labour Party last week, and is also expected to join the Peoples Democratic Party. Enikuomehin had also resigned over the way the party is being run locally by governor Mimiko. He accused the governor of “not listening” to the plight of people from the riverine area, an area where no meaningful development has taken place since the administration of the LP led government in the state. The Labour Party was quick to respond by saying Enikuomehin was “sacked” from their folks for “anti-party activities,” a report he challenged, and no response has been heard since then from the LP folks in the state. Though It is no longer news, there is a perception that the Labour party in the state is already sinking into a deep political ocean, and its recovery might be difficult. Reasons are not far fetched as the Governor Mimiko is being accused of turning the state into a 'Police State' with the Parliamentary House, and the Judiciary not been spared. Mimiko is on the verge of taking over the Judiciary system of the state, while members of the bar had voted to strike, with court proceedings paralyzing the legal process for almost two weeks in the state. The Governor was accused of ‘taking over’ the leadership of the House of Assembly, with his perceived authoritarian choice of the first female speaker. One of his major rift with the members is, his total abandoned of the riverine areas of the state which now lacks basic amenities, with no meaningful commissioned project and other urban renewal commitment. No doubt, Ilaje-Ese Odo area of the state has been abandoned since the successor of the Mimiko led administration. All promises made, were only seen on mere paperwork, and on pages of both local and national dailies, even the propaganda were not left out on both state owned radios and television station. A senior officer from the government office told SaharaReporters that, Governor mimiko might lose some members of the party to the opposition party with the way things are going-on in the state. "The fate of the party is shaking, with some members especially from the State House of Assembly planning to defect to the opposition. "Even, the Governor is not helping matters, with his godfathersim attitude. Members are complaining and he doesn't seems to care about it". He said Mimiko might even be pitching his tent with the PDP later, if he sees that things are not working again for his favour in the Labour party. A former lawmaker in the House of Assembly who pleaded anonymity told our correspodent in a telephone interview that "Take your time and visit Ese Odo, the riverrine area of the state, and tell me what the governor has done over there. He thinks people from the area are fools. What I can only say is that Labour Party is already losing his weight and I see know future for the party". "We are tired of his draconian nature. He can't continue to lie to us. Our eyes are now open wide and we are ready to send the Labour Party out to where they belong". Few days to the Gubernatorial election in the Ekiti State, Reports went viral, accusing Olusegun Mimiko of meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election, Ayodele Peter Fayose. It was reported that, Mimiko took his own Labour party candidate in the Ekiti election, Opeyemi Bamidele to President Jonathan in Abuja to stepped down his supporters for Fayose, and would be compensated for doing such after the election despite huge rally made in the state, with lots of millions spent at such rally. The authenticity of the report was confirmed by a strong party member to our Correspodent shortly after the election of Ekiti State. Meanwhile, SaharaReporters has been able to gathered that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim and other bigwigs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might received the defectors any moment from now in the state. Their defection, will spark a huge celebration in the state, while tax payers money would be use in funding the event which political critics as already being tagging 'The Catch of Big Fish'. Many school of thought and political watchdogs in the state is of the opinion that the defection might be an antics for the 2015 House of Assembly elections in the state, and as well the forthcoming general election. |

http://nigerianpilot.com/activists-organise-mock-session-at-edo-assembly/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter By Benin City, Victor Osehobo / June 27, 2014 / No Comments There was a mild drama at the entrance of the Edo State House of Assembly yesterday afternoon as civil rights activists and representatives of youth and women groups under the aegis of the Talakawa Movement led by a human rights activist, Curtis Ugbo, gathered for a mock plenary under scorching sun for hours. With representatives drawn from the 24 state constituencies, the mock assembly sat outside the entrance gates of the complex attracting a crowd of passersby who gathered to watch them. Unlike the assembly with two Speakers where the 9 PDP and 16 APC members have failed to reach a consensus to resume plenary, the Talakawa assembly had a speaker in Ugbo and other principal officers who were working in one accord devoid of political party interests. The police were also on duty providing security. Ugbo addressing reporters on why he convened the assembly said, “We have been watching the Edo assembly show of shame at Ring Road in Benin City. We have seen how the so-called legislators whom we elected to represent us have turned their mandates into weapons of war. So what we are doing here is to take over the assembly as the talakawas or masses to retrieve the peoples’ mandate”. He also said the mock assembly would remain in session for as long as the state assembly fails to harmonise their interests and resume plenary. “Edo people have lost confidence in those 24 legislators of PDP and APC who now appear to be representing their personal rather than the popular interest. You have here representatives of the 24 constituencies in Edo and we are marshaling out decisions through committees to help move Edo out of the quagmire our shameless legislators have cast us in the last three weeks”.

@seun abeg do backup this time oooo |
An opposition party will definitely knock the pdp out at d federal level but I do not want that party to parade the same old names/thieves that we are used to. It has to be a new party with a new set of leaders that truly practice what they preach. For me it is GEJ all the way The opposition makes it easier for the pdp to win @ d federal level. |

Adibe Emenyonu The strike embarked upon by the Edo State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) went violent yesterday as the state Chairman of the NLC, Mr. Emmanuel Ademokun, was beaten to stupor by thugs allegedly sponsored the state government. The state chapter of NLC and TUC on Monday embarked on an indefinite strike over unpaid allowances by the state government. It was gathered that worker who were trying to enforce the strike at the Palm House Secretariat Complex located along Sapele Road, Benin City were ambushed by thugs and beaten up. Following the attack, some of the victims including Ademokun sustained head injuries inflicted on them by the thugs. Speaking on the incident, Ademokun, who expressed surprise over the actions of the thugs whom he said got orders to attack them from a top government official, told journalists that the use of thugs by government or its agents will not deter labour from fighting for what belongs to them. "We were out this morning after holding meeting with our workers on the progress we have made so far on the issue of Salary Relativity and we went to Palm House to monitor compliance when Oloye's boy's swam on us like bees, beating my members, shooting sporadically into the air even as some persons in police uniforms shot tear gas at us. "As I speak with you, some of my members who were seriously injured were taking treatment at some major pharmaceuticals, you can see my swollen head. We watched helplessly as Loye (PS, Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities) gave directives to the boys to continue to disrupt us even when I told them that we came for peace and not to fight," he said. Reacting to the NLC chairman’s allegation, Permanent Secretary State Ministry, Major Lawrence Loye (rtd), who said he holding a meeting with some government officials at the time the labour leaders arrived, explained that the they (labour leaders) were throwing stones on offices at the complex in a bid to force workers, an action he said was against labour law. He said following their violent approach, members of the State Task Force on Environment who were at the scene intervened to make peace, but the labour leaders attacked them, forcing the task force members to retaliate.
