Hear my story!!!

So I had cause to withdraw from the quoted transaction.

I was billed #184,008 ($816) at exchange rate #225.5 by Access bank on the 16th of March 2015.

I asked for a refund from the seller on the 18th of March 2015 for some reasons and the seller approved refund in full.

You need to see how messed up I looked and felt (I was 50 shades of crazy) when I got a credit of #162,384 from Access bank on the 20th of March 2015....As refund for the suppose #184,008 debit.

Question is, what happened to my #21,624.

Quickly I twitted at them on twitter (I choose that medium because severally times it has helped me resolve issues with banks faster)....And I got called from their contact center, I stated in details my complaint and they asked me to do a mail to them also stating for sure that the seller refunded in full.

I got across to the seller and had a confirmation message showing full refund which I forwarded to their mailbox.


Imagine the response from them ;

They charged me with exchange rate #225.5 but did the refund with exchange rate #199.

Day light robbery, Corporate robbery. The best robbers are the ones in suit (no offence to anyone in any profession)
It's what tumababa was talking about. I never had this issue with Ecobank. Not once. I guess some banks do it and some don't. But are you saying that this was their reply? Because dats a terrible reply.

UPDATE: Just saw the third photo. I'll be gutted if i was the one. This definitely means refunds should be avoided at all possible cost.

hope you know that for cancelling the order after you have already been charged, you should expect a loss of like 8k when you get a refund. cancelling an order immediately you have been charged is not a good idea for a naira account

It's not my first time. It's a lie, according to my experience. As long as they haven't shipped it out yet, the money hasn't been debited from ur account, it's just pending. Happened to me before. The refund took 17 days to return and when it came, the money was even more as Naira had lost value in that time. Regardless, I'll give u a feedback when it comes.

I got the refund today, it's more like a reversal tho because Asos never actually takes the money until they ship out the items. And from the alerts in the pictures below, you can see that i didn't lose even 1 kobo, not 1! I don't know how GT Bank operates, but Ecobank doesn't swallow money like that, tho their rates are crazy high. Cheers!

If you are planning to buy something today using Ecobank, you better not. Ecobank dollar rate today is 235.7! Lol.

Let me just give everybody a piece of advice, if you like urself and more importantly, ur money... STAY AWAY from Ecobank.

I added my mastercard to Google play store today and i was charged $1. Card authorization. It's called a pending, it will be refunded. However. i was charged 235.7 per dollar. Yes. 235.7! Ecobank MasterCard.

Ecobank always sends their own commission (2.5%) in a separate alert. See the two alerts below.

I doubt if you use any of these LTE, they are not there yet but you too berate them.

I tried downloading with Spectranet, 200KB/s. Last time i tried swift, 450KB/s. And both were limited plans.

The MTN cheat i am using downloads at 1MB/s and it's unlimited. Do you see my concern now? Look at the picture below, a chat between me and my Indian IT friend from 2 days back i think.

Diamond bank gives only VISA Card, No mastercard. I actually did the same. My account was dormant for about 3 or 4 years. Activated it in 24hrs. The next day it was ready. Went in, requested for Mobile banking, internet banking and Debit VISA card. The next day both mobile banking was ready, the second day internet banking was ready and on the third day my VISA Card was ready. Just 3 working days. Requested on Monday, got it on Thursday. They even texted me that it was ready. I got there, collected my Debit card, and even enrolled into the BVN stuff. By Monday dat was set. It's only Tuesday and i have used the card at least 5 times online. Bottomline, activate ur Diamond Bank.

well, i have programmed my mind to expect chinos to ship every 2 weeks now, and expect monday shipment in another 2 weeks. till i get a better alternative, i stay. right now, chinos shipment is good for personal items but very bad for business.

imagine your item getting to his office on the monday he shipped. you have to wait 2 weeks before he ships and still wait another 1 week or 2 before you receive.

i hope person no go don land for jail before customer's goods arrive because no custom strike to use as excuse.

My GTb 204.98 today , better than dat fidelity dat took 225 from me nd leta took 6k plus from my acct.

It's not always ideal, but try as much as possible to have only just about the amount u want to spend in the account. If they don't see the 6K how can they collect it? Worst comes to worst, transaction will fail. All ur money would be returned. Now i keep my money in my Ecobank and send via quickteller the amount i want to spend online to the other bank with like 1K extra. That's it.

Actually, as at last week it was a bit lower. 204.08. But yes. It's so stable. Made a transaction on Aliexpress today. Exactly 204.7 as you said. VERY IMPRESSED. Last time i tried, Ecobank was doing 217.5. They also charged me 360 naira per pound. I'm done with them.

@Ahmed4002 and Stanley08, I called the Lagos number and was told that there were some issues with my items at the airport and it will make the next shipment. I appreciate Chinos efforts and meticulous dealings but it would go a long way if mails or texts were sent to notify a customer of any particular issue. Lol. One thing I hate more than anything is poor communication. Even if there is something wrong. Let me know, Keep me informed. Simple. I haven't shipped with Chinos before but as great as his rates are, i doubt I'm going to ship with him. The waiting and silence will make me lose my mind. This is the main problem with Chinos, communication. I think i remember chinos saying people should call his manager to get their invoices quicker or something like that. Maybe try this number 08035439982.

I use an established freight forwarder, with an office on the Island. I get my stuffs without any fuss.

I also want to know the same. How much does ur forwarder charge? Because Chinos rates are pretty awesome. But well, as i said earlier...

Yes, if you check out in Naira, you will be charged the Amazon fixed rate. Amazon clearly states that the rate includes their fees and charges, this usually translated to paying more than the exchange rate determined by the bank if you check out in dollars.

With my experience today, that seems to have changed and the Amazon rate is better.

BTW, I used Access for all my transactions today. It's been a while I used my Gtbank card for any online payment, I've noticed in a long time that their rates are higher. However, I'm sure if I use it and check out in Naira, I'll be charged at Amazon's rates.

Oh! Thanks for clearing that up. Amazon. Never tried. Good stuff on there? Do u also use Chinos to ship? Many ppl complaining about his lack of communication. And nothing is worse than that.

So i made some orders on Amazon today. Amazon's rate is N208.6, they charged the same amount when I checked out in Naira

I bought some other stuffs but I tried checking out in dollars. When I checked out in dollars, they charged N215. Normally, Amazon usually charges than the normal exchange rates when you check out in Naira before now, things have changed for now.

Bought some stuffs on Aliexpress today also and na N210 dem charge.

Its enough to say Diamond's N204 is the median charge, I can go with the bank.

Wait oh, are u saying that on Amazon, no matter what card or bank u are using, if you check out in Naira you will be charged an Amazon fixed rate? But if you checkout in dollars then ur bank will decide according to their own conversion rate? Or is it only for GT Bank?

The stanbic rate quoted here, is it for master card or visa? And that's how verve card has gone into oblivion.

I saw a StanbicIBTC newspaper advert a few days ago showing. It showed only verve and mastercard. So I'm guessing it's MasterCard, maybe they don't even give VISA. Dats what most banks are doing now, retreating to only one card. Even Ecobank has stopped giving VISA Card, mine is expiring in October and they said they won't renew it. The main reason they switched to Master was PayPal tho.
My Ecobank verve card is still very much precious to me. Using it on Quickteller app on my phone. Seamless. It's advisable to always have a verve and a master/visa card, preferably visa tho cause verve is the best for local transaction. But worldwide, VISA is more acceptable.

Memory cards, alot of fakes these days. Download and run h2testw on ur memory card. Use a fast card reader also. Let's be sure that ur card speed is fast and no errors. Without posting these tests, it's not advisable to buy. If he posts it and it's good, no errors then rush it. Great price
