Nairaland GeneralQualities That Can Make Or Break You by Stegomiah(op): 2:12pm On Aug 24, 2013
Life is all about how you perceive things and the way you perceive things is contingent upon your attitude. There are a multitude of attributes that will help you prosper in life, but these characteristics need to be displayed in the proper manner. The key is self-awareness. Consider the current situation you are in and gauge the proper behavior for those circumstances. Look at the people around you and adjust your behavior accordingly.

Below are a list of the traits that can make or break you in life, depending on how you use them.

Confidence

Confidence is key in any and all aspects of life, this is no surprise. However, there is a fine line between confidence and cockiness. It’s vital to be sure of yourself and your values, but when they become overbearing, cockiness begins to emerge. That trait is not an admirable one and will actually deter people from associating with you. Be careful of how you assert yourself before you scare people away.

Passion

Dedicating yourself to one goal in life can garner great rewards. However, if your passion makes you ignore everything else going on in your life, that’s not a good thing. If you are ignoring your friends and family to achieve success, you are making a terrible mistake. Passion is a great trait to have in a business sense, but you need to make sure you are not ignoring the other important things in your life. What’s the point of amazing success if you can’t even share it with the ones you love?

Resourcefulness

Having the ability to reference your past experiences while dealing with your current challenges is a crucial skill for progress in life. This will come in handy as you try to navigate through obstacles. However, if you are only thinking of past experiences, you may cloud your judgment and, as a result, cause future struggles.

Curiosity

The only way you can hope to expand your knowledge is by asking questions. By learning how to ask the right questions, you can better understand how things function around you. As much as this is a useful trait, too many questions can become irritating. If you ask one person too many questions simultaneously, you may overwhelm him or her and end up causing more harm than good. Curiosity fuels persistence, which is extremely important when trying to solve a problem.

Flexibility

Being flexible is an amicable trait, one that transcends every aspect of our lives. Being able to reach a compromise and to adapt to any situation will only help you ease your stress levels. While this is a great trait to possess, you have to be careful because people can and will take advantage of you.

Empathy

It’s important to be able to empathize with other people as you journey through life. Having the ability to personally understand another person’s situation can only help you. But there comes a point where enough is enough. You have to make sure as long as you identify with them you are still holding your ground. You must not let people take advantage of you while appealing to your emotions.

Multitask

Having the ability to complete multiple tasks at once can definitely come in handy. In the work force, you are going to be typically managing a couple of projects simultaneously. The downfall of multitasking is that it detracts your focus from one thing to the next. Everything in this day and age is a distraction so it’s important to be able to focus on each project you are working on at that present moment.

Gratitude

When someone does something for you, it’s important to express your thankfulness to him or her. A simple thank you is sufficient enough. You don’t need to go over the top to thank someone or you will earn yourself a reputation as a brown noser. No one likes a kiss ass — express your thanks and move on.

Resilience

It’s crucial to have tough skin in life, but not so tough that you cannot understand and appreciate criticism. Not everything you do in life will be done correctly, so it’s important to be open to advice from others. Do not close yourself off completely so that you give off a “too good for you attitude.” No one wants to associate with someone who has an attitude problem.

Extrovert/Introvert

It’s important to figure out a balance between these two. People are drawn to outgoing people. However, you don’t want to be so extroverted that you are constantly the center of attention, just like you don’t want to be so introverted that your voice is never heard. Whether in business relations or just in a social setting, this balance is essential.

RomanceThings Women Should Never Say To Their Men by Stegomiah(op): 2:35pm On Aug 23, 2013
To keep your happy, healthy relationship healthy and happy, stay away from the following phrases. Here are ten things women should never say to their men:

1. “Man up.” This emasculating phrase is never, ever appropriate. He is a man. If he’s not meeting your expectations, learn to communicate this clearly and without insult.

2. “We need to talk.” Yes, you should talk to your man. No, you should not warn him that you need to talk about something yet-to-be-described that will likely be uncomfortable. This phrase is the most likely to shift him into defensive mode. Try a more loving approach and you will surely get better results.

3. “Size doesn’t matter.” If size doesn’t matter, don’t talk about size.

4. “Is she prettier than me?” Related: “Do I look fat in this?” If the question you’re asking him has only one acceptable answer – and if a too-long pause in responding will only feed your insecurities – just trust that his answer would have been the right one and don’t bother to ask it.

5. “You’re just like my ex.” Worse: “I’ve had better.” You don’t want to be compared to his exes, so don’t compare him to yours. Even if he comes out on top, it’s still an awkward comparison.

6. “Are you really that stupid?” Be careful not to use language that emasculates and belittles your guy. Treat him with respect, even when you’re angry or disappointed.

7. “Never mind. I’ll do it myself.” Don’t dismiss the offers of help from your man. A common love language is acts of service. Don’t deny him the opportunity to serve you. Sometimes it’s nice to feel needed.

8. “I can’t live without you.” Use desperate language with caution, and stay clear of phrases that sound clingy in early stages of the relationship. Let him take the lead when it comes to commitment and promises of a future together.

9. “I’m not your mother.” Worse: “I’m just like my mother.” Keep your mom(s) out of it, unless you’re actually talking about patterns learned from your respective families of origin.

10. “Nothing’s wrong.” Yes, it is. He can’t read your mind. If something’s wrong, tell him what’s wrong.

NYSCNYSC Develops Software To Tackle Posting Errors by Stegomiah(op): 1:42pm On Aug 21, 2013
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia, said on Tuesday that the Corps had developed a software, capable of preventing mobilisation mistakes.

Okere-Affia said that the innovation would identify mistakes at the point of entry of all corps members' data to tackle difficulties experienced in the mobilisation exercise.

He made the disclosure during the NYSC 2013 Batch 'C' pre-mobilisation workshop with theme: "Appraising NYSC Mobilisation Strategies for a Better Service Delivery" in Minna.

"The ICT Department of NYSC in collaboration with the Mobilisation Department has developed new data entry software that will be used by all corps producing institutions to collate data of prospective corps members.

"This is as a result of our realisation that most of the mistakes during mobilisation of prospective corps members are at the point of data entry.

"It is therefore, expected that this new software will assist in identifying mistakes at point of entry of any prospective corps members data."

Okorie-Affia said the new software would not be put into use until the 2014 Batch 'A' mobilisation exercise to enable the corps producing institutions to get acquainted with the new software.

The director-general said the ICT content of the mobilisation exercise had also been upgraded to dictate procedural non-compliance in the mobilisation programme to ensure better service delivery.

The Niger Governor, Dr Babangida Aliyu, who was represented by the state's Commissioner for Youth, Mr Kabiru Wushishi, pledged to sustain the support given by the State Government to the corps to promote national unity.

author=Sanboy25] Yes I
consider it like one. Is it your favorite.... or the only one you
know.... ? smiley
I like avatar too, but i wont consider it a manga, its a animation series quite ryt, but it is made in the states, by popular director Cameron .....(ex sandra bullock's husband) but mangas drawings are quite different and it is associated with japanese and chinese, dats wat makes it a manga, with all this there Ninja fights.

Avatars animation is quite different from a typical mangas anime, but since the thread is not only on mangas, avatar is welcomed since it is an anime, just stating d difference.

@ sanboy, i like naruto too, but i so much love itachi, jst remembad rock lee grin

I can't just help but to laugh at majority of the comments on this thread, firstly, i didn't write the post. There is a link (trusted) indicating the source, so why attack the Op?

Some do not understand simple grammar, some don't understand the differences between refined and raw sugar, trans fat, processed protein... Some do not bother to read the whole thread, cos they can't handle the truth. No one said you should not eat all this foods, but show moderacy or consume at a low rate inorder not to kill your intelligence, but as exhibited on this thread i can seee why many are hitting on the post.

But seriously guyz, the truth they say is bitter, it is what we eat that gives us diseases, sickness, kills us... Its a fact!

A word is enough for the wise, go natural; eat fruits, vegetables, drink water and other essential nutrients. Watch your diet and your consumption rate, have a good hygiene, health is wealth.

Finally, no one said you should not eat the above mentioned, afterall its your body and system, the choice is yours! Many don't know that alcohol, causes mental retardation effect on ur child, especially by pregnant women, you should not take it, it can also cause down syndrome, turner syndrome...and many other congenital abnormalities at birth.
