Skymoore1004: and you’re proud to publicly accept that you’re breaching the conditions (hours) of your visa?
Congratulations! You may be high this afternoon. 35 hours work during holiday and 20 hours during school term. School is on session now for those writing dissertation and that resumed for september 2019. I have submitted my dissertation and very eligible to work full time. What else?? |

The best is to pick sense in what Justwise has said. UKVI didn't send him a letter for breach of student visa or anything, he studied, sticked to the rule and finished well. He has been advising people to stick to UKVI rules which is an advantage if we do that. He is living his good life in UK.
If you like work 100 hours per week, remember everything has a record and your future applications shall tell the story.
Peace !!! |

Skymoore1004: Let’s say is even “possible”, but that probably worked for him. It may not work for others.
Nobody, I repeat nobody should ever believe that you can study and work in the U.K. to pay off your tuition & living expenses, yet still live the “abroad luxury” people always imagine.
90% of the time, you are forced to breach your 20 hours a week allowance or start a self employed side hustle. Even if you’re earning well, e go still dey pain you to pay off the tuition. If someone ask for you loan, you go think am well before you even give response. U.K. is survival of the fittest. When you reach, you shine your eyes well.
One Nairalander is asking Justwise to tell him the sort of job he did. Why should he? Everyone has their secret to success and do not owe anyone an explanation of how they made it. You that is asking, will you tell someone exactly how you made your success?
Let’s leave this talk abeg I disagree with this. Nna... no be so |

Meaning it will be taken and any refund if at all will have to be done by HMRC.
Let me see if I can find the link Thanks sis. I wish they are the one owning me this amount sent for me to pay back.. All will be sorted soon and I will update you. Thanks for your help |

justwise: How did this go? Were you able to get through to them? Thanks. My uni international office is yet to reply to my mail. My employer replied this evening and said "You have been paying income tax accordingly, and that’s a matter that you will have to take up with HMRC with your payslips supporting your position" I have asked 6 of my friends here too, all said no but just one mentioned that she is paying the income tax. I am waiting for the response back to my mail from my uni before calling the taxman. And the only thing I am considering is that I have actually earned more than the personal allowance limit so I don't know if truly I am to pay or not. A call to taxman will sort things out soon. Thanks alot for your concern. |

LaaJiblik: My understanding was that with a 1250L tax code, your tax-free amount is £12,500 per annum.
If you are taxed and at the end of March 31, your total earning is equal to, or less than £12,500 for that fiscal year, all the tax you have paid is refunded.
If however, you have earned above £12,500 that year, ANY earning above that is Taxed.
@ Justwise: Are you saying that during your student time, you earned above the ‘tax-free’ amount (as per your tax code), and you got a refund? I really really doubt. If you got any refund, it would be what was deducted prior to the ‘tax-free’ amount. But every single penny after that threshold is taxed. Student or not. That is my understanding, that is what I have been told. By the taxman.
@STENON Thanks alot for the clarification. I don't really know much about this tax of a thing. From the document, I have been taxed before reaching that Personal allowance with the last employer and no refund was made. Now that I am above the threshold of 1250L taxcode still working 20 hours as it was written on my new employment contract too. The P60 shows zero pound was paid as income tax, and some amount were paid for NI. HMRC letter threw we off balanced as they said they will start the deduction from my salary as from April. I plan to phone the taxman to hear his view and I have also contacted my school international office to know what to do . |

LagosismyHome: YES YEs and More Yes....................
It’s a common misconception that students don't have to pay income tax in the UK. They do – it's just that their total income usually doesn't take them over their personal allowance (the amount you can earn in a year without having to pay tax). Especially if the student sticks to the 20 hours per week . The 2020 - 21 Personal Allowance is £12,500 . Everybody is tax over the personal allowance
Foreign students working in the UK Some double-taxation agreements mean you do not pay UK tax on your income if you work while you’re a student. If your country does not have an agreement like this, you have to pay tax in the same way as others who come to live in the UK. https://www.gov.uk/student-jobs-paying-tax I am more confused with this. My tax code is 1250L, it was generated when I was working at carehome. But now earning more than that from my teaching job. But its 20 hours and I am on student visa from Nigeria. I checked and Nigeria is also on that list you sent here. |

justwise: Are you working more than 20hrs a week?
You need to ask your employer for tax exemption form to avoid getting deducted in the first place.
You can still get your tax from your previous employer, call the tax man and explain that, they will probably give you P45 form to complete or you do it online. No, I am working 20 hours a week during term time and full time during holiday. Thanks alot, I will contact my taxman |

justwise: You don't pay but if your employer takes it from your pay you will get it back at the end of financial year. My first employer at the care home paid it for me but I didn't get it at the end of the financial year despite my tier 4 student visa. My current employer doesn't pay because of my student visa status when I started work with them and HMRC brought a letter for me that I am owning. I am just confused as I don't know the right approach to solve this. |

I am not even sure that the $50 would work with money transfer service because of the card issuer restrictions, but specifically for the £10, would you help? I will settle you. lols @ the bolded My bank details is confidential so I am afraid I can't help. Please my advice is for you to try Payoneer as an alternative to get your money out. Peace !! |

Very true. Best to be very smart with them too . Even the ones in abroad are not left out too. I heard the term "azza" first from my Nigerian coursemate who was trying to play smart game with me, he asked for my friends "azza" details to help send naira equivalent to his account in Nigeria and I became suspicious when he said he will reward me if I can do it Another even chatted me on whatsapp to send my account number for a tuition fees deposit for his sister, I said I am not an admission officer for his sister's school , he should pay directly to his sister's school account. If you are from Nigeria, You will be smarter than them You don't reveal your home address, account number and other details to some people just like that. Odikwa risky

I have hardly seen a job listed that you need MSC public health . .... however you can carve a niche with whatever you do I still don't know why people are going for MSc in Public health. If you have passion for health discipline, Go for nursing please. Many people that finished the course don't fit in to any job , except doing care assistant at care homes |

I like to know the prospect of electricity in UK, possibility of getting a job quickly. Secondly, which would you advice I go for? Electrical Engineering has good prospects in UK. But having BSc or MSc alone is not a pre-requisite to practice. Is your course having professional accreditation? Please try as much as possible to focus more on learning all the skills, software and technology involved from local trade electrician while also studying for your MSc . If possible, You can enrol for a free internship with any local trade electrician to learn more about the job . Your MSc wont give you 100% training and skills needed to get the job out there. |
