Mosopea:
hello house,
i just got an offer to study an Msc course starting in january 2021. please:

1 where in lagos can i get the approved police report done
2) where and when can i get a DBS as done the school is asking that i submit it by 10th June.
3) in the offer from the school, they did not mention needing ielts results but i read it on ukgov site that proof of english is compulsory. Do i need to take the ielts exam even though the school dod not mention it on the offer given?

thank you.
Its called PVG Diclosure in Scotland. Your school will send the form to your home address in Nigeria so you must have a valid address in Nigeria as most of the forms always get lost on the way.
I remembered 2 were sent to my friend in Nigeria but none gt to his address in Nigeria.
You have to fill the form and enter the address of where you have lived for @ least 5 years, You will also need to enter your bank details in the form and thereafter post it back to your school, who will now send to the DBS office. It takes minimum of 3 weeks to get a response and the letter will be posted back to your address in Nigeria and also a copy to your school.

Better to ask someone in UK to collect the form for you and you must be ready to pay the person too.

I actually did for a friend but not advicesable to do for someone you don't really know or trust.

Thanks sis for your help. My cousin teaches Introductory Technology and has a B.Ed in it. Is she a good candidate for the OTT route? or should she just go through a Masters route in Education?
I started with the OTT route but got frustrated with rejection mails. The fact is that most schools won't employ someone from Nigeria without the QTS, except from south african , canada, New Zealand etc.
The MSc route is a better way for your cousin to accomplish his target.

GCU is cheap... 13,500 tuition fees , some people get 1500 tuition waiver with 1st class or 2nd class.

QTS is the qualification to teach in England while GTCS is the qualification required in Scotland.

Its easier in scotland within 2 months for Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) because assessment is based on all your teaching qualifications and minimum 2 years teaching experience in your country, after which you get your licence to teach as a qualified teacher
Whereas , for QTS in England, Since 2001, there has been a rule that Overseas Trained Teachers (OTT) could only teach here for four calendar years. People in training at the end of their four years: From 1 September 2008, OTTs who have not obtained QTS within four years will not be allowed to continue teaching beyond four years even if they are undertaking employment based training leading to QTS. Please refer to the following advice issued by DfE - ADVICE ON OTT.

I bought your idea of MSc in Mathematics but d tuition in the neighborhood of GBP20K is too high for my budget of about 10 to 13K. I also considered management as u suggested but tuition is still on high side for d ones I saw. Though I just fall in love with MSc Energy and Environmental Management (with Advanced Practice in Teeside university) with d following reason 1. tuition is 7500 per year for 2 years which appears flexible to me. 2. Environmental Specialist is in UK shortage occupation which is another advantage. My challenge now is after doing this course and still pursue QTS through the other route as advised, will the MSC in Energy and Environmental management still be of advantage(as management course) for him to climb the leadership position in teaching.
I am sorry to ask this question. Why do you want your brother to get QTS in England instead of GTCS in scotland ?
At the bolded, Yes it is another opportunity for him and may be an added advantage when applying for college teaching job.
Some tuition fees are low within that budget so he should be able to get admission easily here.

Ok lets just pretend as if we don't know that this marriage is in ICU. :- bros I am hoping not at all. Since she got this indenfite leave last year she has bin acting strange, all plans still hanging to join her.

You can compare the UK to Nigeria on individual bases because there are Nigerians who are doing very well than many us here:- please why do you say so that most Nigeria are doing very well than some of u guys in UK? I taught the UK have every good thing in place and their money is strong and their pay is higer than we in Nigeria. Most bankers I know in Nigeria are earning very good money compare to bankers in the UK, please why? Thank you for your response.
I read through some of your previous post and noticed you have been on this issue since mid 2019.
Do you really love your life?
Kindly forget about UK talk with your wife for now, cos it's becoming boring.

Focus more on your life and be happy for the main time. If possible, stop all communication with her. Do you have children yet? Working as a care assistant here and not been able to bring her husband is just a super story. Single life is boring here and coming to join her is an additional relieve for her in terms of paying Bills.

Yes
PGCE is for someone with degree certificate but without teaching experience to be qualified as a Teacher with QTS in UK.

With all the information you have already given, I am sure he met all the requirements to be a Teacher here and it will be a great investment.

You can confirm from Justwise if international students are eligible for Tier 4 visa to study PGCE because I am not too sure of it.

Better still, Please look for another school with cheaper tuition fees for him to do MSc either in his Mathematics discipline ( To be a master of his discipline) or Management courses ( it's a requirement and fast route to taking leadership position within the school).

The masters will help in getting tier 4 student visa and he will manage the rest after coming over.

I can manage to pay 30%
If you have enough data and time. You can try canada as another alternative. They always take in Graduate assistant from Nigeria. Don't ask for scholarship, ask for a Graduate assistantship position either as Teaching or Research Assistant with full tuition waiver and monthly stipends.
You can follow this guidelines :

It is a "Do It Yourself" DIY thing.

Search for any 40 different universities each in Canada, US, Germany
Click on your department

Click on "People and Faculty"

Good afternoon Stenon,

Please what is ur advice to someone going for PGCE with the hope of getting QTS in Mathematics considering the fact that teaching mathematics is in UK shortage occupation list. Is it a good investment for easy stay after graduation compared to going for MSC instead of PGCE.
Its a very good option and that's another route for QTS in England.

Other route which you can try assuming you are currently living in with any degree and have a good passion for Teaching is the assessment only route with more details here

Yes o good reviews. I mailed them like three weeks ago since I was meant to have an interview with them May 20th. They actually responded that my application is still with the department.

Will have to wait next month which I can't wait again cry decided to firm DMU. So I can focus on other things like school fees and other stuff just incase VAC opens this month or next.
I guess some courses have very high applications and so it's taking time to sort things out.

Sometimes, its easier and faster to get admission for courses like Project/quality management, than some core science courses.

LaaJiblik:
Recalcitrant people would rather choose to advice candidates that IELTS is waste of money.
They will not even leave it at the fact that other people have already answered the question clearly and concisely. They would rather prefer to show their ‘intelligence’ by suggesting that candidates choose other schools or courses which do not require IELTS.

Yesterday, I asked a question on this forum to gauge why some people seem to have a morbid fear of IELTS. I wanted to get a fair idea, then offer my perspective. Two or three posts later, someone asked a specific question about IELTS. The person received an appropriate answer from another member. But someone else ignored that 1st answer and decided to push through his own ‘agenda‘ of saying the IELTS exams is useless (without recourse to peculiarities of the OP).

In addition to your two ‘case studies’ above, I too personally know someone who went to the UK for an MSc. The uni required IELTS. They refused to write, called the uni all sort of names. They applied to another Uni (same course) and somehow managed to ‘pressure ‘ the Uni into accepting NECO.
Well, they finished the MSc, spent £500 to register with HCPC. Spent a lot more money to have certificates verified in Nigeria.
Final hurdle: HCPC required IELTS (which they didn’t have). It was too late to register and write as visa was running out. Guess who is back in Portharcourt? Hustling hard and wishing they had written IELTS ?

Bottom line: IELTS is not waste of money. Maximum you may spend is NGN 100k.
If anyone were to ask me whether IELTS is mandatory or not for UK admission, I would simply say:
It depends on the course and on the school too. Best person(s) to answer is your prospective school.
Based on what you just said now... A quick look at Dundee MSc nursing has no pre-registration with NMC as been offered by GCU.
Better to go with the right advice that has long term advantage , than because of money, go for the wrong path with no long or short term benefit.

Another scenario apart from this IELTS is for any school requesting for UKNARIC. Please do not run away from them, kindly do it as this is an opportunity to further register with some Professional Bodies in UK.
Without UKNARIC, you can not be registered to practice as a Professional in UK.

**note : I am not referring to Professional bodies like APM, PMI, or others.

UK is really strict when it comes to some rules.
1. 2017 Myself and a Friend applied for same scholarship, same course and same university in Scotland.

GPA... Requirements was first class, Yes, we both met the requirement and My GPA was higher than his own.

Work experience... We both worked at same place and at same time. Same HOD wrote reference letter for us.

SOP : Both wrote different things but with the same ideas.

Scholarship essays: We both proofread for ourselves.

English language requirement : We submitted same WAEC results. Towards the end, The school requested for IELTS, he registered and wrote IELTS, I said No, because Nigeria is known as an English speaking country and I didn't even have money for it.

After IELTS , he sent his results....
One month later he was shortlisted for the scholarship and now done with MSc fully funded scholarship in UK.

Again, He applied for PhD last year for a fully funded studentship again and he got it. According to him, he said the IELTS was an extra factor for him because he was competing with people of same profiles.

2. Another Nigerian friend applied for MSc nursing at GCU for September 2020. The admission was conditional with IELTS and school fees is £13,500, I said NO, she should just upload her WAEC results with B grade in English, but the school rejected it. She collected another letter from her university stating that she was taught in English language, GCU still rejected it. She applied for same course at Dundee, Dundee gave her admission but the course was for 3 years meaning she has to pay £18,150 tuition fees for 3 years , but GCU is just 2 years for MSc nursing but conditional on IELTS.

Please kindly choose the best option for her.

Lol. The white know their place where I am around and I put them where they belong. If you have high self esteem, you will not even think of writing in a Nigerian forum on how white are better than your race. Why then are you still coming here to obtain information and gain from your fellow black who are low class.

I would be very worried to be your black freind in my workplace or in school. You will just be spoon feeding what your fellow black man does to your white boss to gain favour.

Please dont let your children have such mindset. And I hope you dont marry a white man just because you dont want your children to be black. They will still not be accepted by the white supremacists.

You will always be black. Accept your race and be positive to people. Treat others the same way no matter their race. Be happy and dont see black as inferior. You are strong, intelligent and have perseverance. Blacks are superior to the whites in sprinting and athleticism something whites themselves admit and are jealous of. They want to even introduce geneticist because of this. Your black skin is not susceptible to cancerous cells that is prevalent to white skin of old age. The whites are learning from black skin.

Be happy of gift of life. Cheers dear. Please dont mention any race is superior to another. Every individual is different no matter the race, society and religion.
congratulations on your great achievement bro. Live long and prosper.

It is even you that have been stigmatised for you to choose other race over your kind and saying all blacks are pretenders
Hero worshipping white as if all of them are wise. Some of these white you glorify are incompetent and full of hypocrisy. You are suffering from inferiority complex and you need to change your bad stigma.
For you to generalise that all black as bad that shows the kind of bad company you keep and where you stay isnt good enough. You do not follow intellectual blacks of your kind.

If you like work as a workaholic and be a source of spoonfeeder, those white men can never and ever see you as equal. They pretend and will only treat you well if you are invaluable. If you are not, you are been outcasted and left to be fired. They apply institutional racism and see you as aggressive when you claim for your right.

You better sit up and remember home and when you came from. Do not let anyone deceive you. When you want to reach the top and managerial level in your career, you will understand what I mean. You will always be down bottom in their eyes.

Also, you should not generalise and see black as evil because you have not mingle with good competent blacks of high class. You should always the individual competence, attitude and honesty over race. We black in the diaspora do not help each other.

The Chinese, Pakistanis, Indians and many more help each other. You will see them dominant in a company in which their head is of their race. Many shops are owned by them and gradually eradicating poverty in their country.

But we blacks can never help each other because you all see black as evil. Why wont there be continued racism when you dont see yourself as the best and the boss. Why do you think the white and english people phrased their language to make everything black evil and negative:

black things black sheep, black day, black(blackmail), disrepute (black mark), rejection (blackball), banishment (blacklist), impurity (not the driven snow), illicitness (black market), black (devil) and death. Why is everything white good: white day, white holiday, white (peace) white (purity), white (godliness) and many more. They are just saying, you blacks are shit indirectly.

Believe in yourself as see yourself as superior and in control. Make yourself important and dont become a lapdog to the white.
I am working hard to be at the peak of my career based on my experience, qualifications and trying to meet all the requirements.

If you merit it, nothing stops you from achieving the peak and been the superior here, except you depend on connections and bribery back home to get to the top which is not applicable here.

For every of your achievement here, you have to work hard and proof that you merit it.

You "Generalised" my point from your intuition. I didn't carry out any research to do the statistics and so no reference to make for accurate prediction.
A black can be 1%, 10%, or 0.0007% of the black population. A black as I mentioned and not "all black" as you have said.

Th hypocrisy you are talking about is what you are also displaying on this public forum. Please sit well to read my previous post and search your mind for the right answer to what you just responded.

Till then... Enjoy your weekend bro !!

Like I do say it the way you portray yourself that is the way you will be treated! I noticed that most Africans here have what we called this inferiority complex or whatever they call it. They paved way for whatsoever treatment they are been given! I can tell you if you portray yourself right in Uk whatsoever part you are the sky will be your limit! The simple truth is this where ever you find yourself working always do your best! Mind your business! Don’t join the other Nigeria to Poke nose this is common among our brothers also dress neat and smart. The whites love those who work deligently and smartly they would be all over you but once you give in to some certain attitudes that contravene their worldview hence racism comes in.
Thanks, You have said it all. Don't mind them, let them keep wailing racism. When they leave the right thing and any corrections made by the white to correct them is called racism. Truth be told, I will rather employ a white in my company than black , pokenosing and procrastination is always what most people bring to the table, they will never stop showing and displaying our childish african arrogance of "I am the boss". A white person is humble in all manner and aspect of life and are always ready to help one another. Black will always pretend with you and will never show you the way out here. Oyinbo life is based on principle, it is either you abide by the rule or deal with the consequence. Don't come late to work, don't operate phone while on duty, dress neatly and responsibly, apply makeup and deodorant, don't bring your church sermon to work cos most people are not even religious, yet they live a normal and life worthy of making heaven. In short , look presentable and be proud of yourself.

Yes, No need to go a bigger city where you spend 40-120minutes inside bus before getting to work and you keep buying transport tickets.

smaller cities have many opportunities than most big cities.

People working in big cities always live in neighbouring small city due to cost of living and most employers in small city are always looking for people to recruit which is always a good way to start as a student.
