PoliticsI Will Review Appointments To Address Marginalisation – Buhari by Stingman(op): 7:08pm On Feb 08, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari told Catholic bishops in Abuja today that he would take a second look at appointments made by the Federal Government to redress issues being raised. He said the review will be done after a compendium of all appointments has been submitted to him. President Muhammadu Buhari He told the bishops, under the aegis of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, that no ethnic group or political zone has been deliberately marginalised in the appointments made so far by his administration.

The Nigerian leader was obviously reacting to criticisms that he may have violated the Federal character principle in some of the appointments made. The last time a compendium of appointments was done, the South West region led the rest of the country. President Buhari also explained that the policy proposed by Federal Government in response to the frequent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the country is not meant to colonize any part of the country. Buhari said the intention of government is to create grazing locations for cattle rearers, which has now been misconstrued as another form of colonization. President Buhari regretted that the well-thought out policy of the Federal Government, which was conceived after wide consultations with stakeholders, had been largely misunderstood by a section of the public.

He, however, assured the Catholic Bishops that the Federal Government will continue to explore all opportunities and support initiatives to ensure peace and stability in restive areas. Condemning recent spate of killings in Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, and Zamfara states, the President said security operatives would ensure prosecution of perpetrators and all those found with illegal arms in the affected areas. ‘‘The impression created that I was sitting in an air-conditioned office and home, enjoying myself while these things happened, is dishonest.

‘‘At every step, I have tried to foresee these problems because I have the experience as a former military officer who commanded three out of the four divisions of the Nigerian army, in Lagos, Ibadan and Jos. ‘‘I am quite aware of the problems we have and I am doing my best to get law enforcement agencies to be on alert,’’ he said. The President told the Catholic Bishops that he would not be tired of recounting remarkable progress recorded in the areas of security, economy and the fight against corruption. ‘‘We have done very well on security in the North East, when you compare what the condition was before we came in and what it is now. ‘‘On the economy, particularly agriculture, I am very pleased that God answered the prayers of Nigerians who prayed for bountiful harvest. ‘‘People have taken advantage of Federal Government policies and programmes to return to the farm and they have not regretted,’’ he said. On the fight against corruption, the President reiterated that government would be guided by the law in the investigation and prosecution of all graft-related cases.

‘‘People are being prosecuted systematically with evidence. ‘‘If a permanent secretary has five houses in Abuja, two in Kaduna and one in Borno and Sokoto and he can’t account for the properties and there are bank transactions linking him to the properties, the prosecuting agencies will not have difficulties to make progress on the case.” The Catholic bishops were led by Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama. Kaigama pledged that the Catholic Church in Nigeria would continue to support the Buhari administration and make its contribution to nation-building through prayers, admonitions and assistance to needy Nigerians. ‘‘As the voice of the people, we shall continue to highlight the plight of our people and play our prophetic role of sensitising the government, thus promoting good governance, national unity and cohesion,’’ Kaigama said.

CrimeATTACKS: AIG Zone 2 Orders Security Beef-up In Lagos, Ogun by Stingman(op): 8:59am On Feb 08, 2018
Following a report of possible herdsmen attack in Lagos and Ogun states, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Zone 2, Adamu Ibrahim, has ordered that security be beefed up in both states to prevent such attack. Police Police This came as the Ogun State Police Command has denied reports that some herdsmen have taken over the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, describing the sponsor of the information as faceless. Ibrahim, in a statement signed by the Zone Public Relation Officer, PRO, Dolapo Badmos, yesterday, also directed that the Commissioners of Police in both states ensure that there is no ethnic clash within their states.

He said: “Members of the public are hereby implored to go about their lawful activities and report any suspicious criminal attempt (aimed at) disrupting public peace as officers in both states will not relent in its efforts to ensure sustainable peace and security.” Ogun Police denies herdsmen attack Meanwhile, reacting to the alleged attack, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi said, there was nothing of such in the state. Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the expressway and the entire state were peaceful, advising people of the state to ignore the social media report.

He said: “The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been once again drawn to an alleged attack by herdsmen along Lagos/Ibadan expressway as well as an anonymous security alert letter written by a faceless student group urging students and members of public not to travel along that route. “The faceless group also posted a simulated voice recording on social media where some people are crying and pleading with their alleged attackers not to kill them. “The Command wouldn’t have dignified the disgruntled elements with a response but in order to allay the fears of the public, the true security situation along that axis has to be made known to all and sundry.

It does, but the fact remain that the northern personnel would not want to kill those bandits...they would want to arrest them AND LATER RELEASED them to regroup. Did you see who Don Wanny was neutralized in PH? If he was a Boko member, he would only be arrested. That's the FACT!!!

The Governor just used the opportunity to send a clear message to the President and his band wagon. That nepotism and the likes of it, does no good.

Though the CAOS is from Borno, it took an Igbo man 6weeks to achieve what the north, Muslims and even the Borno indigene could not achieve in 3yrs.

Truth be told, the Igbo's are very resourceful and Nigeria need to do more to keep them.
If Nigeria had truly reconciled with the easterners after the civil war...genuinely implementing the 3Rs...and employed their scientists to build weapons and grow their military technology which they used 50 years ago, Nigeria would have been in a different levely by now. But due to nepotism and hate...the government destroyed everything claiming they led to prolonged war. Now again they have shown bravely, but would this commander ever come close to becoming the Army chief in future? Nope, he would soon be retired. That's Nigeria for you.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Military Disagrees With Shettima Over Rating, Performance. News by Stingman(op): 9:05am On Feb 07, 2018
The Defence Minister and top senior security officers have expressed their dismay over the alleged claim by Governor Kashim Shettima that Generals from the Southern parts of the country are responsible for the return of peace in Borno State. Gov Kashim Shettima of Borno State. Governor Shettima made the outburst during a town hall meeting of military and security agencies in Maiduguri.

He said he was disappointed to observe that the previous commanders, who are from the southern states of Nigeria, did much better than the last occupants of the office who are from the North. “Some of our greatest accomplishments in the current counterinsurgency efforts were recorded under army generals who are not from Borno and northern Nigeria. And what we have recorded in the last six weeks outweighs what was accomplished in the last three years.” He singled out the Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Rogers Nicholas, a non-Muslim of Igbo stock for exhibiting leadership and professionalism in the fight against the Islamic extremists. “Some of our greatest recent feats in the conflict were done by non-northerners and non-Muslims officers in the military.

Most of the soldiers that sacrificed their lives are not of the Kanuri ethnic group,” he said. He further disclosed that the Boko Haram insurgency regained momentum after 2016 because of the failure of command at the theatre of war. In swift reaction to the claim, Mansur-Dan-Ali, The Minister of Defence, who was visibly displeased by Shettima’s claim, said other senior security personnel were worthy to be mentioned when talking about the successes recorded. Dan-Ali said that Major General Ibrahim Yusuf, the present General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division of the army as well as other senior officers from the Nigerian Airforce Component have also played significant role to the successes. The Defence Minister said: “The recent Changes in leadership of Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole and the serving brigade, don’t forget we have the brigade commander who is also an indigene of this zone so you should also mention him. General Yusuf is one of the active General Officers Commanding (GOC), in this operation worthy to be mentioned. “Also the regular visit to the Theatre Command by the Hon. Minister and the Service Chiefs have also given morale to the fighting troops hence recorded these successes. It is pertinent to state that the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole’s in the ongoing Operation Deep Punch II have inflicted great damages to the insurgents and rooted them from their hideouts in Sambisa forest.” Shettima’s comments have generated outrage amongst military officers and security personnel working in various outfits in the state.

A military intelligence officer who claims anonymity told PRNigeria that Shettima’s comment was quite unprofessional and belittles his personality as Chief Security Officer of the state to use such foul and unguided utterances against other officers that have risked their lives to protect people of the state from Boko Haram insurgency. The Officer said: “We are utterly dismay by the utterances of the governor against other officers from other part of the country. By claiming that the last six weeks outweighs what was accomplished in the last three years, the Governor is invariably attacking the Chief of Army Chief, General Buratai, the National Security Adviser, General Babagana Monguno who are also from Borno State of failure of their three years in the saddle and equally the Commander-in-Chief who put these people in the positions.

“We must recall that it was during the tenure of the last Theatre Commander, General Ibrahim Attahiru, though from the North but not from Borno State that troops provided adequate security when the State hosted President Muhammadu Buhari to the Theatre during the occasion of Nigeria’s 57th Independence Anniversary and also the successful hosting of Vice President Yemi Osibanjo during his visit to flag off the distribution of relief materials to displaced persons in the North East.” Another visibly disturbed security officer said “Instead of the Governor to concentrate on the issues related to the town hall meeting, he decided to utilised his remarks by promoting sectional divide and bigotry amongst military men and soldiers fighting Boko Haram. “We felt exasperated after hearing this insulting and provocative remarks from a number one citizen of a state who is also considered as one of the most active governors in this dispensation.

He should not that the Nigerian military and security agencies have no religious sentiment, tribal and sectional affiliations.” The immediate Theatre Commander, Major Ibrahim Attahiru had disclosed during his handover after seven months on the helms of affairs, that he carried out a quick evaluation of the operational situation resulting in the elimination of five high profile Boko Haram Commanders and hundreds of terrorists after a crucial and swift clearance operations that neutralised identified immediate threats posed by terrorists taking refuge in some remote areas within the Theatre. General Attahiru also established Fire Support Coordination Cell (FSCC) which were employed continuously to degrade the BHT in their enclaves and staging areas.

These FSCC carried out artillery and aerial bombardments in conjunction with the Air Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE on isolated BHT enclaves killing several BHT and destroying their logistic base. The creation of dugouts along BHT crossing points also denied the group freedom of action and stem the conduct of their nefarious activities. The inauguration of Mobile Strike Teams (MSTs) reinforced the Mobile Brigade Concept (MBC), while he also set up a Special Forces In-theatre Training Team, for retraining and refreshing troops on the fundamental concepts and skills of marksmanship, convoy and anti-ambush drills among others.

The none kinetic operations conducted through coordinated media and information operations led to the surrender of over 100 Boko Haram Terrorists, who were immediately inducted into Operation SAFE CORRIDOR. The Theatre Command equally facilitated enhanced security on the Lake Chad through continuous clearance of water weeds and patrol of the waterways resulting in lifting of ban on fishing activities in the Lake and the gradual restoration of economic activities thereby providing a lifeline and bringing succour to the indigenes.

PoliticsRe: What Governors Would Have Done To Tinubu If He Was An Igbo– Uwazuruike by Stingman: 8:54pm On Feb 06, 2018
BAZETU12:
Ralph Uwazuruike, founder of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has alleged that if Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was an Igbo man, governors from the South East would have sent him on exile from the region.

He observed that governors in the South East never respected those that, “anointed” them into power.

In a chat with Punch, Uwazuruike maintained that such, “retrogressive mentality” is responsible for the retrogression in the South East.

Uwazuruike said, “If an Igbo man sponsors another person to be governor, that governor becomes his enemy the next day. Juxtapose it with what is happening in Yoruba land.”

“If (Bola) Tinubu had been an Igbo man, he would have gone on exile. Look at how many governors he anointed in Yoruba land; they all pay him respect up till today. If it were to be in Igbo land, they would send him out of town immediately. He will not live in Igbo land because they will chase him out. Look at all the Igbo who were anointed governors. How many of them respect those who anointed them?

“That is the mentality of the Igbo man, retrogressive mentality; the mentality that leads to nowhere but doom. So, what Nnamdi Kanu did was of no difference because it is the typical nature of the Igbo man. That is what makes the Igbo man to be backward and they will continue to remain backward until they change their ways of life.”

“I remember in 1985 in Africa Hall that he was for confirmation of Dr Peter Onu of Nigeria, who was acting Secretary General but Nigeria’s Head of State Gen Muhammadu Buhary was adamant in his support of Niger’s candidate, Idi Omaro, a Fulani Muslim. In a meeting, a handful of Presidents led by Nyerere met with Gen Buhary and Nwalimu begged him: ‘Please give us Peter!’ Buhary refused and forgot even to be courteous to his old peers.

What was astonishing, when the vote was in favour of Niger’s candidate, the Nigerian Head rejoiced to such a degree that he was unable to control his emotions. That was a moment I witnessed and was convinced that General Buhary would not last long as a leader.” – The OAU: Reality Or Fiction by Ibrahim Daggash, former Head of Information and Communication, Organization of African Unity (OAU); pg 69; ISBN 1-9044722-25-3 It is unheard-of in history that a self-respecting leader of a country would vote against his country’s candidate in international diplomacy.

But here, you have it in black and white, in a book, that former Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari would rather have a Fulani Muslim candidate from Niger instead of Nigeria’s own esteemed Dr. Peter Onu. Not even the highly revered then President of Tanzania, Julius Nyerere could make Buhari to change his mind.

This kind of bizarre shamelessness is why Nigeria is the laughing stock of the civilized world. It is unthinkable that any leader, anywhere would insult his own country by backing an opponent from another country. The crude tragedy here is that it was the selfsame Buhari who made this patriotic statement: “This generation of Nigerians and indeed future generations have no other country than Nigeria. We must stay here to salvage it together.” How would the late Peter Onu have faith in Nigeria when he could not get the support of his country’s leader? It is as though the so-called leader was more interested in the ethnicity and religion of Peter Onu’s opponent from Niger than any bonds of citizenship with his Nigerian compatriot.

Cry, the beloved country, as Alan Paton entitled his sad book. Attaining the great post of Secretary-General of the then OAU was a task most African countries gave their all in raising their diplomatic stakes. In Peter Onu’s case, he even had the other African countries rooting for him because of his undoubted competence only to be abandoned by the very man at the helm of affairs in his own country. Indeed Chinua Achebe was spot-on when he stated that the trouble with Nigeria stood on leadership in his classic little book The Trouble With Nigeria. A leader that cannot support his countrymen and women can only be aid to be worse than useless. How indeed will Nigerians be motivated to lift up the country? It all means that all the croaking about “One Nigeria” is a huge joke. Buhari’s antecedents can only deal a deathblow to his current attempt at winning the presidency of Nigeria.

He is not showing in any sense whatsoever that he has changed from his old ways which made the author to state in the book quoted above at the beginning of this article that “he was convinced that General Buhary (sic) would not last long as a leader.” All over the internet are quotes of Buhari stressing that he would ensure the entrenchment of the controversial Sharia law all over the country. In a plural society such as Nigeria, that is a surefire way to covet trouble. Buhari ought to know that the country is no longer under military where his word was law. Even then, he was even so easily overthrown by his military peers due to his bad politics. Buhari had earlier said quite undiplomatically that Muslims should vote for only Muslims. It goes against the grain for a man who aspires to be the leader of all to sound so parochial. Buhari obviously has his fawning sycophants, but the larger public remains unimpressed.

It is this his latching to the praise songs of his toadies that makes Buhari imagine that he can ride roughshod over simple rules like presenting his school certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Celebrating a man who manufactures a Statement of Result from Katsina State of 1961 in lieu of his mandatory school certificate in the contest for the Nigerian presidency aptly sums up the sorry fate of the country where a child from Anambra State, for instance, must score more than 139 marks to be admitted into the so-called Unity Schools while another child from Yobe State is only required to score just 2, as in TWO, marks.

Pathetic! A leader who shamelessly helped to defeat his own country, to actually vote against the country he led, as Buhari did in Peter Onu’s contest for the Secretary-General post of the then OAU has no business putting up his head to lead the country yet again. Since he is so desirous of supporting his Fulani mates from Niger, would it not be wiser to aspire to lead Niger Republic instead? Somebody urgently needs to CHANGE himself first!
Politics2019: North Plots Life After Buhari by Stingman(op): 11:47am On Jan 28, 2018
THE controversial letter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo appears to have thrown the Northern political establishment into dilemma over the touted second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The major stakeholders are deeply worried about the implications for the North, of the letter in which Obasanjo passed a vote of no confidence in the administration of the incumbent in all indices of good governance.

Specifically, the elder statesman urged the president to bury any thought about seeking a fresh mandate at the expiration of his current tenure.

Eminent citizens of northern extraction cutting across professional backgrounds, religious creed and political affiliation and cultural organisations have resolved to shelve their difference and collaborate towards protecting the interest of the North ahead the 2019 presidential election.

Though they were said to have also scored the Buhari administration low in performance, they believed the North must rally together so that the zone could substitute the president with a younger and vibrant politician of northern extraction for 2019.

Part of the major permutations of the leaders is to form a consensus on a young and vibrant candidate with proven pedigree, and with capacity to build bridges across the country.

Most of the current contenders in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are above 60 years.

A source said the leaders are already looking into the background and records of such prospective choice based on the benchmark outlined by the search party.

But, his name was still being kept under wraps for what the sources described as tactical reasons.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido; a serving Senator from Kano State and former governor of Kano State, Dr Musa Kwankwanso have stepped up consultations on their presidential ambitions.

A source said the leaders were looking for a candidate with proven experience and capacity to manage the country in such a manner that can take the country to the level.

“We will go after a young and intelligent Northerner who has the experience and capacity to unite Nigerians and provide equal opportunities to every one irrespective of tribe, ethnic and religious background,” the source said.

The source, however, declined to give the name of one of such individuals the search party had been able to discover so far, saying: ”When the time comes, we are of the firm belief that Nigerians will rally round this patriot.”

Speaking against the backdrop of the letter by Obasanjo that Buhari should not seek re-election, an elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai said the North had other capable personalities that could lead the country.

He explained that the North had in abundance such quality individuals just as the Southern part of the country.

“Certainly, there are many people. As the Southern part of the country has large number of capable hands to rule the country, so also the North has many competent people to govern the country if they are given an opportunity to do so.

“The quality of leadership depends on competence, capacity and vision and leaders with such qualities abound in both in the Northern and the Southern parts of the country. There are no two ways about it,” he stated.

Yakassai blamed the increasing fall in the quality of leadership in the country on a faulty process that emphasised money politics, saying he had warned that Buhari would not perform to expectation.

Also speaking, the national chairman of one of the newly registered parties, National Rescue Movement (NRM), Senator Saidu Dansadau, said “the North has a duty to redeem its image from the current bad leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC), which is being spearheaded by President Muhammad Buhari.

Yeah to many of us but we need his wealth experience to lead our country to greater height Nigeria need buhari.
Never...

Nigeria has never been divided like this period.

Does Buhari need to take us to greater height by imposing his ethnic group on the rest of us?

What confidence does an Igbo, Yoruba, Ijaw, Itsekiri, Tiv, Igala and others have in the composition of their countries security system by Buhari appointing ONLY his kinsmen...

PoliticsBuhari: OBJ May Take Campaign To International Arena by Stingman(op):
FORMER president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who released a bombshell against incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, may internationalise his opposition against the president starting from today.

The former Nigerian leader, who is at African Union (AU) event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, today, is likely to commence the international dimension of opposition to Buhari’s second term bid.

Sources in the polity told the Nigerian Tribune that the former president was already in the Ethiopian capital ahead of the scheduled event.

“The former president is not a man known for speaking tongue in cheek. Once he launches out, he is determined to see through whatever project, the same way he launched out against former President Goodluck Jonathan. He started by sending emissaries to him not to seek re-election but Jonathan rebuffed that.

“He wrote the 2013 letter; ‘Before it is too late,’ which marked the launch of the decimation of Jonathan’s government. A similar game is playing out here,” a source in the know said.

“I can assure you that the incumbent government has a huge hill to climb once Obasanjo has launched out, especially as he has also drawn Buhari’s immediate predecessor, Jonathan, who has emerged the hero of peaceful elections in Nigeria as an ally in the new bid. Jonathan is also a frequent guest to many world leaders and international bodies,” the source said.
