Hahahahaha!

Opposition need to learn from Tinubu on how to be an opposition.

Since Tinubu and his political party assumed power in 2015, opposition ceased to exist in Nigeria.

LegendHero:
Lol, all those who are in the business of sponsoring protests have seen that it is not business as usual during the period of Tinubu.

Tinubu strategically handled all items.

—SE: Normally, Peter Obi/PDP and his gangs of Obedient should have been at the forefront of the protest as opposition. But Tinubu played on their psyche. Prop some people up, then they believe joining protest mean they will be part of people complaining about hunger. So strategically, they are working for Tinubu without knowing. Just feed his ego, and an average Obidient lose his sense of reasoning. Even when parents are now killing kids because of extreme hunger in the SE, Obedients online still believe they are not hungry. What an irony.

—Northerners: In their usual game, they don’t have the moral authority to lead a protest because they know Buhari landed us in this mess and during that period, they failed to protest. So how do you sponsor violent protest when you don’t have the moral support?

—SW: Normally, SW don’t usually speak with one voice coz of 60/40 opposition divide and even if genuine people are protesting, Jagaban people also blended with the crowd and declared hunger and hardship induced by the polices of Tinubu. So when Yorubas themselves are speaking up against Tinubu and complaining of hunger, where is the moral support for opposition to lead a protest? How do you lead protest when the actual people you’re trying to fight against are leading it? So there is controlled protest strategically by same SW politicians to water down effect of any other protest in other part of the country.

—TUC and NLC: Jagaban just try to make sure no amount of protest embarked upon by these guys will carry weight. TUC president saw this and baba backed out of the protest and NLC Ajaero who is another Tinubu tool saw his protest failing on the very first day. An almighty NLC couldn’t even win the confidence of the workers anymore. Ajaero is toothless.

—Police: Usually police are always antagonist of protesters. But the rule play is different now. Police are actually the one cheering with the protesters and even going as far as joining them and providing snacks. So psychologically, the protesters see that the government is part of them. Even if they want to be furious, they will use this to give benefit of the doubt.

Now all this point to one thing. Nigerians believe in Tinubu and they have tried in giving him benefit of the doubt. It’s not like the man jazzed everybody, coz with the hard reforms he embarked on and the hardship that follows it at first, NO PRESIDENT can do this without NLC and opposition shutting the country down. ONLY Jagaban can do that and people will still be patient with him.

Lastly, Jagaban should ensure the promised minimum wage and other intervention come fast. This magic might not last long if people don’t see the promise fulfilled. He is so lucky to have even lasted this long with little nation rocking protest.
No loud am too much.

I only hope Tinubu's mastery of politics and his giant strides in Lagos, would also be replicated at the federal level during his 8year presidential regime.

PoliticsRe: Prof Barth Nnaji And The Menace Of Epileptic Power In Nigeria by StOla(op): 5:52pm On Feb 27, 2024
ayokellany:
The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria accepted today the resignation of Barth Nnaji, the hitherto Minister of Power.

The resignation is reportedly connected to the revelations first premiered by Business Day which linked the former cabinet member to an underground bid for Afam Power Station.

Nnaji revealed to the National Council on Privatiation last Friday that his company, Geometrics, was a shareholder in a company that bid for the Afam Power Station.

Afam Power Station has an installed capacity of 775 Megawatts which is 18% of the country’s current total power generation.

The revelation came as a surprise, although many Nigerians were already aware that the privatiation of PHCN was simply an unbundling of the country’s power assets to the cabal.

However the undoing of Mr. Nnaji may have come about as a result of the dispute between himself as minister and PHCN employees.

The PHCN employees were embittered by Nnaji’s refusal to pay them adequate terminal benefits running into hundreds of billions of Naira. The conflict-of-interest being he would not want an asset he was planning to acquire to be hugely indebted to the soon-to-be disengaged PHCN staff.

http://businessnews.com.ng/2012/08/28/breaking-news-power-minister-barth-nnaji-resigns/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=breaking-news-power-minister-barth-nnaji-resigns/.
Certainly, he tried to sell national assets to himself, even though he had resigned from the company.

But when his corrupt attempt was blown open, he went back to the same company he had tried to benefit with national assets.

Nor can you criticise why the project that was projected to cost $250m eventually cost $800m.

He had good vision and wanted to fast track it by acquiring one of the gencos and discos to achieve that. He was rightly asked to step aside and didn't resist. Today he has achieved that goal. What remains to be seen is he will put smile on the faces of Abians or not.
His vision, to me, tells of someone who had good ideas. He could have succeeded or failed depending on other factors within the power system and politics.
The question is was it by his good interest that some have asserted he was our best Minister of Power even if he did not add 1MW of power to the national grid and pushed for the privatisation of GENCos and DISCos that have not helped to turn the tide of our national disgrace?

The 2nd side of the coin is that we can also celebrate good infrastructures if we have the patience and the funds to see it through.

To the many illiterates on social media, infrastructural projects should cost a penny and, should happen at the snap of a finger.

PoliticsProf Barth Nnaji And The Menace Of Epileptic Power In Nigeria by StOla(op): 4:27pm On Feb 27, 2024
I have heard many persons on this forum and privately, assert that Prof Barth Nnaji was our best bet to solving our electric power problems, and was our best Minister of Power.

I have always countered that assertion by asking for evidence to show that a man who barely spent a year in office as Minister of Power during the Jonathan regime, before being forced to resign for a conflict of interest matter relating to the privatisation of the GENCos and DISCos, could have achieved anything significant to warrant such claims of excellence.

I always ask that how many MW of electricity did he add to the national grid while in office. Also, the privatisation of GENCos and DISCos that he spearheaded, what have been their benefit to Nigerians in terms of uninterrupted power since then till now?

So that claim of being the best was always based on emotions and nothing empirical.

Now, one of such companies owned by Prof Barth Nnaji, that bid for the GENCos and DISCos privatisation that resulted in his removal from office as Minister of Power, is now in the news for achieving big things in Abia State - the promise of uninterrupted power supply.

It has finally been able to add just 181MW of electricity that will only be adequate for 9 LGAs out of 17LGAs in Abia State, after a period that span over 16years (2007 to 2024), with many escalations of the project cost from the initial $250m to $800m.

Note that this is a wholly funded private enterprise with the hopes to provide service and be rewarded with revenue that can allow for profit.

Professor Barth Nnaji has tried.

But while Abians and fellow Nigerians rejoice, and politicians and parties try to take some glory for themselves, and even some uninformed Nigerians try to give glory to a state government that is barely 10months out of the over 16years spent on the project, the enormity of what is before us as a nation still lacking critical infrastructure is not lost on me and many.

If Prof. Barth Nnaji somehow managed to stay in the office as, Minister of Power from 2011 till now in 2024, how much would Nigeria have spent to have adequate and steady power supply?

Would the many illiterates on social media have accepted the many time extension and the many costing adjustments as scopecreep take hold of the different national power projects?

Would we have labelled many regimes under which the professor would have worked as power minister, as failures for taking so long to deliver what South Africa or Egypt was able to do for so less a time and cost?

Do we really have the funds to spend on just our power projects alone considering the national capacity required, if only to power up 9 LGAs in Nigeria would cost a private company $800m and over 16years of work. What would be the cost to power up all the 774 LGAs in Nigeria and how many years would that take if all projects begun simultaneously?

Even the private firms that would have shown interest in such projects across different regions of the country, would they have the patience and funds to commit without any revenue made not to talk of profit for 16years?

So while we celebrate what Prof Barth Nnaji has achieve with his private firm for a few local governments in Abia State, we should not forget that infrastructures take time and money, and they most be protected at all cost from vandals.

As many now rejoice over this positive development, and assert that Aba is about to get the big leaps of growth it had been denied for too long, the many hypocrites among them including some who attended the commissioning ceremony, have now belied their previous claims that an economy is not infrastructure driven.

This project took almost 2 decades to complete just 181MW of electric power.

The Nigerian standard of efficiency and urgency is quite embarrassing.

Now those celebrating this will expect other state and federal governments to give them similar project in 1yr.

A private firm spent $800m for almost 2 decades to provide 181MW power to only 9 out of 17 LGAs in Abia state.

Again, those rejoicing will expect FG to spend only $100m to provide thousands of MW electricity within 1year.

Are we not an absurd bunch?

He surely will not have issues collecting tariffs.
The DISCOs do not have that as a problem. The metering system provides pre paid and post paid for those who can guarantee their payments as at when due.

Certainly no one will steal power through the back door because it is a private initiative. If you do not purchase power, you will be in darkness.

Look, Nigerians spend a lot of money monthly on the purchase of petrol and diesel for their generators. If you make an comparison of the cost of buying petrol and energy purchase, you’ll find the later far cheaper in the end.

Geometric has done well. Let’s see others invest in the power sector.
I agree with you, but you do not truly know the Nigerian mentality.

Many Nigerians who are well paid in private enterprise and whose power bill is not up to 5% of their salary, still bypass the metering system for their high power consuming electrical appliances like Air Conditioners.

It is very disgusting.

Because geometric was a private company, done by someone with an active interest in the power problem in Nigeria.

NO businessman would invest in power supply issues in Nigeria. Especially since there would be no sufficient return on investment due to lack of cost reflective tarrif, and the high cost of gas.
