One question which I want some Yoruba to answer:
Why do you often refuse to use the word "monarch" and say "Oba" instead ?
Also why don't you refer to your monarchs by their titles and instead call them "Oba" ?
I wonder if you guys know that "Oba" is the title of the Oba of Benin and that that is why the people of Benin refer to him as "the Oba", if your idea is to copy the way Benin refers to the emperor of Benin then you are doing a poor job.
Most Yoruba don't even know the titles of most Yoruba monarchs, you just indiscriminately refer to them as "Oba" which is the title of the emperor of Benin.
Is it too hard for you guys to learn the titles of your monarchs and stop diluting that of the Benin empire ?

For an Edo person it is very confusing, Yoruba are just overusing that word!
EducationRe: Russia University Introduces Yoruba Language & Others by Stoplying: 4:42pm On Jun 05, 2023
Yoruba low self-esteem is too much. Yoruba look for white validation so much that this type of little news takes an other dimension with Yoruba chest beating and all sorts of Yoruba supremacist speechs.

Normal human beings would welcome the news of their language being taught in a foreign land by saying it brings the world closer and you welcome the honour and wish to replicate, but Yoruba take it as validation and ethnic superiority over other black people and....
Reality check: most Yoruba descend from American slaves. Well the slave past of Yoruba explains why they seek white validation so much. They still see the whites as their masters.

By the way, I seriously hate the Biafrans (their leadership, their military and those who supported Biafra), and Ojuku was a coward and ipob are basta.rds. But I can't stand the constant lying from Yoruba neither. Yoruba are just taking famous war movies like Sparta's 300 and changing the name "Sparta" to "Yoruba".
This Yoruba tradition of telling lies is too much. You are only confusing unsuspecting and innocent kids, you are leading them into ignorance.

Oh well, it took only 179 hurriedl-assembled yoruba soldiers to stop your entire Biafran Liberation(sic) Front's offensive at Ore, on their way to Lagos.

There were no British, Russian, American etc soldiers at the Battle of Ore............ Ole ku (it was ferocious!)
Yoruba are always great warriors in their own minds.
Just a reality check, the Nigerian army fought against Biafra and the Nigerian army had all ethnicities in it (less Igbo in that period of time for obvious reasons). I don't know where you got your story of 179 Yoruba soldiers. Were you trying to copy Sparta's "300" ?

Port Harcourt will be renamed by Tinubu to Adaka Boro or Saro Wiwa Airport.
MMA Lagos needs to be changed to Awolowo or Herbert Macaulay Airport.
Herbert Macaulay is a Brazilian descendant I think.
Murtala Muhammed is an Edo with roots in Auchi, and Lagos was part of Benin kingdom, that relates Murtala Muhammed to Lagos. Awolowo was Jebu, you can give his name to an airport in Jebuland or some other yoruba occupied territories, oh wait, that has already been done...
I guess everybody is happy now.

okay so people who are from Edo state speak Edo
I'm not that knowledgeable about the languages spoken by everybody. But to the best of my knowledge within Edo-state, we have several variants of the Edo language.
Notice for example that the Esan have Onojie which is basically the same as Enogie.

Although Edo-state is a part of Precolonial Benin empire (you can say kingdom if you want), the empire is not limited to Edo-state.

All over the World, airports are named according to their locations. This makes it easy to appreciate and situate where they are located.

name of Oba’s language? I thought Oba speaks Bini and not Edo
The name of the language is Edo, not "Bini". Benin empire had many languages, the one which the Oba speaks is called Edo, it is the one spoken in Benin city which is the royal city: where the king lives !
"Bini" is not an African word.

he’s lying. He’s not from Edo
Thanks bro, I don't know if he's lying or not, it doesn't really matter to me, he just lacks knowledge and etiquette, so I help. If you don't mind, I would like to elaborate on the difference between "Edo" and "Edo-state":

Two different things:
1) being Edo
2) being from Edo-state

It is strange that Nigerians seem to equate both, they don't realize that Edo-state was created in the 1990's whereas "being Edo" can be witnessed in documents such as the gazette of the Olu monarchy which dates to the 70's.

Edo-state got its name from Edo which already had a meaning: it is the name of the people of Benin empire (irrespective of location) and it is the name of the Oba's language.

Take care

Who are the 'you people'?
What makes you think am Yoruba?
You didn't see where I wrote that Akenzua and Ewuare are from the same lineage?
My name is Osamudiame, I guess you should have an idea where am from now.

I don't need you to tell me my history because I know.
1)It is strange to talk about "same lineage" while it is just as simple to say that that is his grand father.
2)there is no such thing as former Oba of Benin, there is just Oba of Benin, as the father joins his ancestors, the first son takes his place. There is previous Oba of Benin, not former.
3)where did I say you were a yoruba ?
4) Stop claiming ethnicity in a faceless forum, It is pointless and stupid, there is no way to verify your claim.
5) you said "Akenzua", I don't know many Edos who would say "Akenzua" without preceding by "Oba"
6) you definitely lack knowledge on history and could learn a lot from me.
7) you lack the culture and the knowledge. It doesn't mean you are not Edo, it only means you have things to learn.
8 ) you also said "Ewuare", it seems you love to disrespect Benin culture or you are really that ignorant?
When referring to the king of England, do you say "Charles" or "king Charles" ? When referring to the pope, do you say "Francis" or "pope Francis" ? The disrespect or total ignorance is why I don't like you. This same guy wants to claim he's an Edo...😂
9) even commoners are not referred to with just their names, their names are preceded by "Mr" or "doctor" or "sir", you came here to hate and at the same time you want to claim affiliation with those you hate... You are a schizophrenic person.

Akenzua is not the current Oba of Benin, though they are from the same lineage but Akenzua was a former Oba of Benin.
Benin empire has a real monarchy. The first son of the emperor inherits the crown. Oba Akenzua II is the grandfather of the current Oba of Benin.
Any previous Oba of Benin is an ancestor of the current Oba of Benin! This is something which most Yoruba and other outsiders don't seem to understand. You guys always seem to think that we have the same system as you. Nope, the Oba of Benin who met the Europeans in the 1400's is a direct ancestor to the current Oba of Benin, there is no deviation, no fairytales, first son inherits the crown !

I don't understand why the Yoruba expect a noble man from an other land to bow down to the Oni of Ife kingdom/priestdom while they both meet in a party outside Ife.
Oni of ife's domain is Ife, nothing more. So calm down with your fake ife stories !

In a kingdom, commoners are expected to follow the costom of the kingdom: bowing to the king is a costom of the land. But a non vassal monarch from an other kingdom shall not bow, he has diplomatic rights.
In this case, you have the Oni of Ife and an other noble man and they are not even in Ife.

Every King and traditional title holder in Nigeria bowed to Queen Elizabeth when she visited Nigeria except Igbo traditional rulers.
This is a lie, every Nigerian monarch without exception bowed to Elizabeth. And the reason is that Nigeria was still a British colony back then, and all Nigerian monarchs were not only vassals of Elizabeth, but they were also educated with British costoms and Elizabeth had full authority over Nigeria.

Funny this Yoruba guy is saying some people are not real kings and they were elevated by the British as warrant kings and he dares to say the Oni of Ife is the most respected king in the south. My friend, the Oni of Ife was a small priest who ruled a village called Ife until the British elevated him during the colonial era. The Oni fits the definition of warrant king perfectly. Ask yourself what battles the Oni did against the British... None.
The Oni is an overhyped warrant king. You can't compare the Oni to real kings like the Eleko, the Awujale, the Alafin...
Dating And Meet-up ZoneRe: The Most Respect King In Nigeria. by Stoplying:
Also, notice the title of the Benin monarch (Oba) was copied by all yoruba monarchs...and still they want to claim Oni of Ife is king of the south 😂🤣😂 tell him to stop referring to himself as Oba ! Also let him face his competition within the south west in the likes of the Alafin, the Awujale, the king of Ugbo...
Stop overhyping yourselves, people are not stupid!

Also the subjects of the Oba of Benin are definitely not a "minority". You guys just like to devise then and call each group a tribe. Precolonial Benin was a developed country, the subjects of the Oba are a people, not a "tribe" because they are not primitives or made up.

Point of correction. Islam is not a kingdom. Being a Muslim in Nigeria doesn't mean you bow down to the sultan of Sokoto. The sultan of Sokoto is only the monarch of Sokoto, he doesn't own Islam!

In the order of hierarchy, Obi of Onitsha is not even in Ooni of Ife category.

Go and check their sitting position anytime the kings have collective gathering.

Sultan is most recognized because his people respect him and they still value that kingship more than us. They not only respect sultan, they even respect their various Emir and we in the south don’t respect our chief or Baale like that.
1) The people of Onitcha respect their Obi the same way the sultan of Sokoto is respected by his subjects.
2) so if your argument is how the people respect their monarch, then the Obi is above the Oni of Ife
3) the Obi of Onitcha's crown is older than the Oni of ife's
4) the Obi of Onitcha had a more developed kingdom than the Oni of Ife in the precolonial era, it is the British who came and urbanised Ife in 1912.
5) yoruba guys just talk out of emotions and never with their brains, Ife is overrated by far. All logic shows Ife stands on myths and lies only.
6) Yoruba live in contradiction, you don't value your monarchs, but at the same time you claim your monarchs are the greatest in the south. It is not the people of the south who dont respect their monarchs, it is only Yoruba who dont!
7) I wish the Yoruba could be classified as non southerners, because Yoruba drag everybody around them to the bottom. Your lack of self-esteem is legendary and is due to your ancestors being slaves. But you extend your lack of self-esteem to the entire south and always place Fulani not only above yourselves but also above every southerner. I have respect for Fulani the same way I have respect for myself and my people, but the best I can offer Fulani is equality, not superiority!
Yoruba must go.

Half education is dangerous sha.
1) The title sultan is from the ottoman, it is not even a local title. Also the sultan of Sokoto is a new monarchy which appeared briefly before colonization and conquered some kingdoms in the north. In other words the sultan is a new monarchy, it doesn't have any history unlike Benin monarchy.

2) the Oni (it is not Ooni, it is Oni !) also has very little history and Ife was a small settlement until 1912 when the British started developing it.

3) locate Bight of Ife or bight of Sokoto, also locate Ife Republic or Sokoto Republic.

4) estimate the monetary value of Ife artefacts and those of Sokoto and those of Benin, just so you know Benin's have been estimated as worth more than 30 billion dollars.

5) the half educated here is you (confusing your fanatical beliefs with education). I am starting to think that northerners are more educated than southerners. Southerners just confuse their beliefs with education.
