Just showing you starting on a premises based on bigotry will lead to a wacky conclusion Stop being emotional and face the fact The question you should ask is why are North African countries less developed than mediterranean countries in Europe. Consider pre-Islamic conquest of North Africa North Africa was once one of the most civilise regions in the world. Today North Africa despite 100 years of exposure to Western European developments is just 50 years ahead of Sub-saharan Africa. Some North African countries like Mauritania, Sudan and Libya are as backward as Northern Nigeria. |

obynzo: Naturally there are two Rivers that empty into Lake Chad. They are the Chari and Logone Rivers. The issue is that due to evaporation the river is not emptying the full capacity of it's discharge to the Lake that is why the lake is dying in addition to desertification. The plan is to divert the water from the River Ubangui(One of the tributaries of the Chari river) so the discharge will flow into Lake Chad thereby increasing the Volume of the Lake. The Ubangui River is one of the tributaries of the River Congo which is the largest river by water volume. So for me it is a wise choice. We have to be very careful, diverting the Ubangi river might cause more problems. In the soviet union The Soviet government decided in the 1960s to divert those rivers so that they could irrigate the desert region surrounding the Sea in order to favour agriculture rather than supply the Aral Sea basin. ... The water level in the Aral Sea started drastically decreasing from the 1960s onward.
By establishing a program to promote agriculture and especially that of cotton, Soviet government led by Khrouchtchev in the 1950s deliberately deprived the Aral Sea of its two main sources of water income, which almost immediately led to less water arriving to the sea.
Not only was all this water being diverted into canals at the expense of the Aral Sea supply, but the majority of it was being soaked up by the desert and blatantly wasted (between 25% and 75% of it, depending on the time period).
The water level in the Aral Sea started drastically decreasing from the 1960s onward. In normal conditions, the Aral Sea gets approximately one fifth of its water supply through rainfall, while the rest is delivered to it by the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers. Evaporation causes the water level to decrease by the same amount that flows into the Sea, making it sustainable as long as inflow is equal to evaporation on average. Therefore the diversion of rivers is at the origin of the imbalance that caused the sea to slowly desiccate over the last 4 decades.

Because they are resource dependent, not industrial and production dependent
Same for DR Congo, Zimbabwe, Uganda, etc etc. Resource dependent, indebted nations.... The first stage of industrial development is security, mass education and universal healthcare. An uneducated, unsecured and unhealthy nation can never develop, insecurity is the reason why Nigeria has unsustainable food inflation. I doubt you can find an industrialised country with a literacy level lower than 50%. I doubt you can fin any county in Southern Africa as backward as Northern Nigeria, maybe North Mozambique can come to close Northern Nigeria backwardness, they have a large Islamic population. Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and Bostwana are currently resource-dependent, but due to their stable security environment and high literacy rate, they are one or two steps from industrialisation. They just need to fix government corruption and set up an industrialisation policy. |

And the result is all the same...we don't make anything, we import stuff we make self....and we lose dollars, and get broke...and then take loans to make the diffierence.
It isn't about 'who chooses our leaders' for me. Even if it was up to the South to choose leaders, the way most Nigerians think....we should share money (and most criticism of our leaders is based on how they share money really)...at the end of the day, the Southern leaders would be just like the Northern leaders. Run an economy based on sharing money
We have to stop relying on oil and start relying on industrial growth, more taxes, and less corruption.(Gowon one of your norhterners also developed an industrial development plan for Nigeria...which if we had followed might have helped us out of our revenue dependency by now)
Keep in mind that many African countries are just as broke as we are...and most of them, as far as I know, have no Northerners in charge or running the country. When your income is dependent on raw materials whose prices you do not control....you go broke when prices fall below replacement/sustenance (Zambia is 80% Christian, has no Hausas as far as we know...and is broke like Nigeria because they rely on copper...and the last time copper prices were high enough to sustain their economy was in 2006-11) Zambia has corrupt and incompetent politicians without the added security problems that are prominent in Northern Nigeria. 80% of Zambia are literate, Nothern Nigeria the literacy level in 30% |

Nigeria Yaba Vaccine Production Laboratory Federal vaccine production laboratory still under renovation since 1991 till date The Federal Vaccine Production Laboratory, Yaba is the first vaccine institute in Nigeria. It started local production of vaccines in 1940. The Institute was active between 1940 and 1991, producing large quantities of vaccines against smallpox, rabies, Yellow fever for Nigerians and other Africa countries.
In 1991, the vaccine centre was shut down by the Federal Government for renovation and upgrading its facilities.
At a news conference in April, 2017, a former Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, announced that the Federal Government had set up a joint venture company with May and Baker, a pharmaceutical company in Nigeria, to commence local production of vaccines at the Yaba facility.
Adewole claimed that the decision was made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, adding that the joint venture will run between 2017 to 2021.
But when this reporter visited the federal vaccine production laboratory located at 1, University Road, Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 , the vaccine centre was locked.
Dilapidated buildings, rotten gates, filthy environment, all these seem to have been ignored by the government since 1991 till date.

Politics › Nigeria’s revenue-to-GDP ratio lowest in the World – World Bank by sulaak(op): 5:37am On Jul 27, 2021 |
Yet despite very low revenue, they are adding more debt... Nigeria’s revenue-to-Gross Domestic Product ratio, which fell to between five and six per cent last year, is the lowest in the world, the World Bank said on Monday.
The Country Director for Nigeria, World Bank, Dr Shubham Chaudhuri, said this during a panel session at a virtual public sector seminar with the theme ‘Nigeria in challenging times: imperatives for a cohesive national development agenda’ organised by the Lagos Business School.
Chaudhuri, who stressed the need for private investment for the country to realise its potential, said the private sector in the country ‘is struggling to breathe’.
“In Nigeria, I think the basic economic agenda is about diversification away from oil because oil has really been like resource curse for Nigeria on multiple dimensions,” he said.
He noted the aspiration of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty by the end of the decade.
He said, “Nigeria is a country with tremendous potential. If you look at the synopsis for this panel, it suggests that Nigeria is at a critical juncture – almost at the moment of crisis.
“Despite all of that, Nigeria is still the largest economy in Africa. So, just think about the potential that Nigeria has because of its natural resources, but more than that, because of its dynamism and all of its population. Nigerians are more entrepreneurial by nature.
“No country has become prosperous and realised its potential, eliminated poverty without doing two simple things: investing in its people, and unleashing the power of the private sector in creating jobs by investing and growing business. And then, of course, the basic function of the state is to provide security and law and order.”
According to Chaudhuri, to invest in people entails basic services, basic education, primary healthcare and nutrition, among others.
He said, “On this, Nigeria at the moment ranks sixth from the bottom in terms of the human capital index that we produce every year.
“So, obviously, there is a huge agenda in terms of investing in human capital. Nigeria spends more on PMS (premium motor spirit) subsidy than it does on primary healthcare in a year, and we know who the PMS subsidy is benefitting.”
He indicated that despite the country’s huge potential to attract private capital, the non-oil part of the economy ‘is not growing that robustly and certainly not generating revenues that the government needs’.
Chaudhuri said, “So, we see as priorities investments in human capital. But for that, one needs revenues. And there again, Nigeria unfortunately has the distinction of having about the lowest revenue-to-GDP ratio in the world.
“In Nigeria, it was eight per cent in 2019. In 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis and with the fall in oil prices, that went down to about between five and six per cent.
“So, domestic revenue mobilisation is huge. And then the third is enabling the space for private investment. You have to fix the power problem. Power is like the oxygen of an economy. In Nigeria, the private sector is struggling to breathe.”
Revenue situation is very weak – Finance minister
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, who spoke at the event, described the country’s revenue situation as very weak.
Ahmed, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on Finance and the Economy, Dr Sarah Alade, said the ministry and the government were also concerned about the issues of insecurity, poverty and unemployment in the country.
She said, “But there is also one issue, and that is the lack of revenue to be able to do as much as we want. But maybe we would be able to do if we all realise that the revenue situation in the economy is very weak. It is fragile.
“Whatever we can get, maybe there is a way we can come together to make sure that we are able to reprioritise what we spend this money so that we can then meet our national priorities.
“So, there are a lot of things, and I can only assure you that that is what we are doing. We have the medium-term development agenda, which we are in the process of implementing from 2021 to 2025. And within the five years, a lot of issues will be taken into consideration.”
On the issue of macroeconomic stability, the minister said, “Right now, the economy is weak, growth is fragile, but we are hoping growth will improve as we begin to look at the policies that we have on ground and do policy reforms to attract both local and foreign investments.”
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Mr ‘Laoye Jaiyeola, said government’s expenditure in the country had grown by 105 per cent since 2015, while revenue had only grown by 15 per cent.. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/nigerias-revenue-to-gdp-ratio-lowest-private-sector-choking-wbank/%3famp

Federal Government should as a matter of urgency allow massive importation of RICE and CORNS for poultry sector, which serves as a stable food for an average Nigerian family.
Security is a basic necessity in life and so what caused the hike in food prices, first of all, is insecurity. The second is climate change, while farmers and herders’ clashes, which is part of insecurity, is the next concerned. And if you cannot produce, if you can’t move to the farm, if you can’t have access or convey inputs from one location to the other, it makes it difficult for us to grow our commodities.” Something urgent must be done concerning this NOW. A BETTER Nigeria is all we want. Desperate Times Call for desperate Measures
We Rise.
Farmers and Herders are not clashing.
Farmers properties have been invaded by Fulanis herders and the Buhari government has refused to act accordingly. The destruction of farmers property has ultimately led to Nigeria food insecurity.
Hunger has always been the reason why countries revolt from the French revolution to the Russian revolution and the recent Arab spring.
Any leader that fails to manage Nigeria fragile unity will ultimately manage Nigeria disunity. Buhari has failed to manage the country diversity, I doubt Nigeria will make it to 2023. |
