slimtoney:
It was not absurd when the NUC created artificial inequalities between the holders of Hnd and Bsc. Why should the NUC be apprehensive when the people you discriminate against are now trying to measure up to you?

If it is about service delivery and result orientation, the Hnd holders are never found wanting. They have proved time and time again in the workplace that they are reliable and superior in terms of in-depth knowledge, experience, and maturity as inculcated in them through their course of studies.

The fear that grips the NUC and their minions each time they are paired with their Hnd counterpart is palpable. it goes to show a people lacking confidence and the requisite character and mental ability to cope with healthy competition required to survive in a thriving organization.

This high level of inferiority complex has further pushed these nitwits to throw up obnoxious policies and manipulations to perpetually keep holders of Hnd subservient to the BSC academic cabals.

Employees should be appraised based on their productivity capabilities and not on paper qualifications alone. If my Bsc or Hnd certificates give me the opportunity to get employed in an organization, my performance right from training activities and on-the-job performance should dictate my career placement and progression and not my certificate any longer.

Today, the number of people parading fake Bsc certificates is alarming, due to the undue importance placed on them. That is why any Dick and Harry can assume the position of authority in this country as long as he presents a stack of papers.

The idiots who thrashed and talked down on HND holders are today being led by politicians whose highest academic qualification is a School Leaving Certificate. Some of them with proven records of forgery sit today as your leaders dictating what happens to you and your fathers.

Meanwhile, your problem is a fellow common man who has struggled to attain a higher level of education because of your skewed mind and devilish tendencies.

Your actions have subjected a lot of hardworking Nigerians to being treated like second-hand citizens in their country. They are denied promotions, and most of them are stagnated for years on the job while others are reduced to a mere shadow of themselves. They have committed no crime, all they did was legitimately attend the Polytechnics to better their lots.

The NUC, the malicious and negatively minded holders of Bsc in low and high places, the National Assembly, the Ministry of Education, and The Presidency should all bury their heads in shame and tuck their selfish tails in between their legs.

If Nigeria must be counted among the industrialized nations, the Polytechnics must be granted her prideful place in the academia and the Technical Colleges that was bullied out of existence by this same academic brutes must as a matter of urgency be revived.

You are just speaking English cheesy cheesy cheesy

In a society, universities, polys and colleges all have their role to play in the development of the economy and so on. But in Nigeria because we like to use sentiments in everything, we are causing confusion everywhere

I am doing the Top up Degree program B Tech Mechanical Engineering there is nothing wrong with Top up, I have colleague who has done Top up Degree program in UK they spend just a Year in the UK. Some of them have done their Masters Degree here in Nigeria.
I already have a Degree in Physics after I obtained my HND Mechanical Engineering.
There is nothing wrong with doing a Top up.
If UK education system that we adopt is doing Top up then why can't HND do such.
Some University do Top up program but call it HND conversion Program, some call it HND to Bsc Program, Post HND Program.
Who feel like doing a Top up should go ahead, We even try to get result, you guys are complaining why some politicians are carrying forge result all over the place.
People are using same HND to get fully Funded PhD Scholarship in the US.
When National Open university of Nigeria started you people condemn it but now Nigeria appreciate it method of learning.

Whatever works for whoever is doing top up is fine.. but the person should read the rules well especially if the person wants to work in Nigeria

Using engineering as an example COREN/NUC has rules, with top up where will the person fit?

are you serious about B.tech? Cause it’s Bachelor of technology not a diploma

B.tech is a degree...

In south africa, with b.tech you are registered as a technologist..

We operate a different system here, it will likely change when we become full members of the washington accord

Take this, it will not be accepted from next yr. Coren is going through a reform, you can’t be certified register with master degree without BEngr.

Coren is trying to match the requirement with international practice.

I know about the washington accord..

Take engineering council of South Africa, with HND you are registered as an engineering technician... if you like go and do masters and PhD you will remain a technician.

With B.tech you are registered as an engineering technologist while with B.engr you are registered as an engineer.

They all have their roles clearly defined and everyone is proud of their achievements, the opposite is the case in Nigeria

Exactly my tot, many ppl don’t know there are differences… ppl Jst study but don’t know the background of what they are studying… Diploma is Diploma call it PGD or HND it is still diploma . Diploma has their roles. In Canada , if u want to be a nurse without going to university you can register a diploma course as practical nurse after graduation you start working as nurse assistant and that is how it is. If u want to be a registered nurse, with your diploma u apply to the university as a nurse. That is all

For example if the nurse assistant has HND in midwifery and does a top up does that mean she is now a nurse with four degrees?
If the nurse assistant wants to become a full nurse with B.Nrs, RN RM RPHN, the only alternative is to go through a university.

In what way is an HND holder desiring to get a Bsc illegal? Is it in Nigeria that it is illegal or all over the world?

No be the same Nigeria that an HND holder with top up will come back and apply for jobs?

If NUC says that is it illegal and that the top up is not equivalent with degree accreditated by NUC, do you think NBTE will do any thing? Do you think companies will risk such employment?

Please try and look up MDCN's stand on those that schooled in Ukraine for example and how it affects them becoming medical doctors in Nigeria

I am not against your argument here. The NUC specifies their requirement for entry into the university at various levels, if you're seeking admission for further studies in schools abroad for instance, additional requirement like English proficiency test may be required, that's their own guideline in taking in students.

As such, it is entirely at these foreign schools' discretion to take in students coming with HND, analysing their transcripts and offering them admission at their determined level for the offered course. For NUC to now be raising dust about what is obtainable in another clime looks and sounds somehow.

Even the top up stuff will still cause issues..

Originally, the program for OND/HND was meant to produce technologist and technicians from technical courses for the industry..

But over the years those incharge of the NBTE messed up the whole structure by allowing non technical courses to be included in the curriculum. For example, what is banking and finance or business administration doing there? Now if they graduate with OND/HND, where will they fit in bearing in mind that they graduated as technicians/technologist?

This is why we are have this discrimination because they will go seeking employment in civil service expecting to be treated the same as someone who has a degree in Business Adminstration or Banking and finance, meanwhile they were trained in a setting meant to provide skills for the industry.

In Engineering, with HND you are a technologist. Jobs dey that will employ technologist. Now after top up what are you now? Will COREN accept the top up degree and register you as an engineer and not a technologist?

See if the polytechnic sector cannot go back to their original mandate, then either it is upgraded to university or they shut it down make everybody find their way

HND + PGD + MSc will get COREN

NB: Someone just corrected me that the PGD and MSc are no longer acceptable. I didn't go through that route as I got my own COREN with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

(b)        HND in an Engineering field + COREN accredited PGD in the same field of Engineering e.g. HND Civil Engineering + PGD Civil Engineering with 2 years post PGD experience. (All PGD Certificates obtained after December 2021 will require a Master’s Degree in the same Engineering field).

(c)        HND in an Engineering field + COREN accredited B. Eng/B.Sc or B. Tech in the same field of Engineering e.g. HND Civil Engineering + B. Eng Civil Engineering with 2 years post B.Eng Experience.

(f)        HND (Engineering) + M.Eng. (Engineering) in the same field with 2 years post M.Eng experience

After getting the job,he was posted to one northern state where he met the lady from the south west.

In less than 6 months, he told me someone wanted to say Hi to me when he called. I heard a lady's voice. He later introduced her to me as his fiancee.

Long story short. We went for wedding and all.

At the point of delivery which the doctor insisted on her having CS due to her medical condition, my brother insisted the wife will deliver via push. It was then the doctor made known to my brother " oga you're talking as if you're not aware of your wife's health"

Omo!!! Na there my brother come say he no Sabi ooo. It was discovered she's indeed SS. I asked my brother before we went for all the marriage rites of they're compatible health wise an he answered affirmative.

After the discovery, my brother left the wife in the hospital but my dad and I insisted he gets back to her till after everything.

It was when was after the successful surgery my brother told me that his wife brought the test result from another lab, reason being that he was busy when they were supposed to go for the test together.

My brother's mind is made up on divorce.

What will you advise my brother to do?

Apart from the genotype issue, why is your brother insisting on delivery via pushing, when the doctor recommended CS?

Then the comment of Prof. Osodeke does not betray that. Secondly, the record of voting by each congress confirmed that congresses agreed that it was all over for the strike except they want to be in contempt of the court. This is not military era.

Do not trust the reporting of how congress voted... for example the media reported that one branch congress of which i was in the meeting, voted to call off. Meanwhile the time the report came out, we were still at the debating stage and no voting was done with
Majority arguing that the FG cannot be trusted.

Decision was left to the NEC as a result of the discussions with the speaker..

He said that based on the Speaker’s intervention then, ASUU suspended the strike with the hope that the Speaker’s words would be matched with action.

Honestly, I do not believe that Prof Osodeke, ASUU National Preaident, actually said the quote above because he can not lie so brazenly that it was Hon. Gbaja that persuaded ASUU to call of strike when the whole world can still recall that it was the Industrial Court and later the Appeal Court that upheld the judgement FG got against ASUU to resume duties that compelled ASUU to go back to classes.

Gbaja offered to help but he is not powerful enough to become the whole legislature nor is he the Executive that dragged ASUU to NIC nor is Gbaja the Judiciary that directed ASUU to go back to classes. He had good intentions but the case was already in court.

As we type, ASUU has not even challenged the no work no pay rule in court and FG has used this as a basis not to pay ASUU and other university unions for all the period they were not at work.

If it is true that Prof made this false accusation then it is really sad. As things stand, it is apparent that the FG team is more brilliant and strategic than the ASUU team. This attempt by Prof to misrepresent the facts is not good at all.

The reality is that the era of a united nationwide university academic staff association is gone.

Two things..

1.. ASUU has challenged the no work no pay thing at the industrial court.. 26th january is the day court will decide...

2. Majority of ASUU members wanted to continue the strike, regardless of the court ruling and the implications

I am saying that the money upon payment is returned to abuja... it is from abuja that it is distributed in a ratio of 60:40 or thereabout
At the end of the year, any money not utilised is swept away by the FG..

There is no fee paid in any federal university that goes to the university account, all of them goes to TSA apart from student association fees which goes to the own account and not unversities..
Since 2018 or 2019 universities were mandated to close all their bank accounts in banks and use TSA instead

Leave the accusation alone, shows you don't understand how TSA works and also shows the FG has no idea what they are doing

The authorities of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka(UNN) today released a new school fees structure that cuts across all levels In the university. This came after a closed door meeting of the school authorities and the SUG of both campuses yesterday. While this is a means to catch up with the current economic downturn of the country, the students have expressed their distaste and refusal to be intimidated and coersed into daylight robbery and extortion.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Students legislative arm of the SUG have advised students to stay calm as they are working to see that the new development is in the interest of students.

Below are the New School fees structure for students.

Faculties of social sciences, VTE, Agriculture sciences, Education and Arts will now pay #110,000(1st years) #85,000(other years) #83,000(final years)

Faculties of business administration and Environmental science will now pay #114,000, #85,000, #83,000

Faculties of physical sciences and biological sciences will now pay #112,000, #85,000, #83,000

Faculty of Engineering will now pay #116,000

Faculties of Law and vet. medicine will now pay #119,000, #95,000, #92,000

Now students will understand why ASUU has been fighting for their academics. Reduced school fees, enhanced study environment and good renumerations has been the major reasons that ASUU has been fighting for. Now this devilish APC government has told ASUU that the only way for them to give academic staff good renumerations and enhanced education is by increasing the school fees. With the collapse of the last strike, it's going to be terrible for students. Your school fees are going to the moon now. The truth is that the directive is coming from minister of education approved by president Buhari. So the VCs are incapacitated hence must carry out the directives.
With the IPPIS issues, the university autonomy is gone. I will suggest that the students should take their anger to ministry of education and aso rock.

Exactly... this is what the FG have always wanted, other federal universities will follow suit..

The ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke had in a recent interview noted that the lecturers had called off their action and returned to work but were challenged by the nonpayment of their eight months salaries which had posed a huge challenge for the lecturers to meet their daily needs and be able to discharge their responsibilities to the returning university students.

Mr. Odiir said the returning lecturers might not give their best because of the obvious challenge of lack of funds, “and that means that the universities would be reopened but teaching and learning might not take place because the lecturers are not motivated.

“So we are appealing to the Federal Government to fulfill its part of the bargain to effect the payment of the salaries of the returning lecturers to enable them fully resume work.

“There is no doubt that the lecturers would obey the court ruling and resume classes but they would certainly not be able to engage in lecturing if they don’t start getting their eight months salaries.

“That is why the Federal Government should pay them without further delay in the spirit of the agreement brokered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“We also appeal to the Speaker to do a follow up to the good work he initiated to have the lecturers call off the action by impressing on all the relevant authorities to have the salaries paid so that our public universities can roar back to life.

Well, you are not well informed that is all i can say to you...

Suspension of strike - the losers and the winners:
1. ASUU: they will receive withheld salary, 50 billion has been mapped out for earn allowance, 170 billion for salary increment and 250 billion for revitalization. With all these, the strike was SUSPENDED conditionally. ASUU ARE AMONG THE WINNERS

2. Speaker house of rep.: Femi took it upon himself to mediate between ASUU and the president. His effort paid. ASUU, the students and his party APC see him as a hero. His effort will impact positively on his political career. FEMI IS AMONG THE WINNERS

3. FG: They won on issue of payment platform. The burden of financing higher institution has been partially transfered to schools and by extension to students and parents thereby partly relieving FG. For the rulling party, strike will no longer be a problem during campaigns. FG IS AMONG THE WINNERS

4. STUDENTS: They have lost 8 months which can not be recovered. FG insisted that from 2024 earn allowance will be generated by universities. That means there will be great increase in tuition fees. Students may have to pay between 150k to 1 Millon depending on the course of study and school. STUDENTS ARE AMONG THE LOSERS

4. CHRIS NGIGE: He fought ASUU and the minister of education. Insisted on increase in tuition fees. He did what he could to frustrated the effort of negotiation committee. He blackmailed the presidency and probably tried to use ASUU to frustrate his political party against next election. At the end his effort was in vain. His political party is calling for his sack. He is seen in bad light by ASUU, other ministers and his party. NGIGE IS AMONG THE LOSERS.

With the current fees that is paid as school fees, there is no way governing councils will fund earned allowance without a significant increase in school fees..
