The whole of my family (mum, dad, aunts, cousins, uncles) turned me off marriage a long time ago. Imagine telling a 17-year old boy to find a girl from his school and bring her home, just because he's the only child. That really freaked me out. Anyway I've planned on running away after my masters. grin They can marry my well-chiseled butt.

Dpeacemaker101: This should be a news now, that is the reason they are called the opposition. If they are genuine, how come people still vote PDP into power in every election and some of their members keep crossing over to PDP every month. If the PDP are not performing or not in power, we would have suffered serious break down and maybe by now,Nigeria would have been divided . The aspirants of these opposition parties are not capable and can NEVER rule us, cause they are tribalistic and corrupt to be in power. Am very happy that Nigerians know what is best for them. Opposition can go hug transformer, cause they will NEVER rule us.PDP still remains the ruling party.
What will you say about the election in Edo?
PoliticsRe: PDP Is Nigeria’s Problem-Opposition Parties by superior1(op): 2:24pm On Jul 20, 2012
Eziachi: Yes there was primary that produced Jonathan but like I said you seem to have a very little inclination about democracy. Election or primary doesn't determines a true democracy, you can hardly called the process that produced Jonathan within the PDP and other parties as a true democratic process? It was a simple cash and carry process, where often the incubent person holds both the yam and the knife.

What they did is an exercise that is demanded of them to be done by their own flawed rules. I can assure you that conducting a one way traffic Nigerian political party primaries are not the opium of a true democratic process.

I am a card carrying member of the British labour party for the past 35 years, never had my present seating MP ever goes through primary election within the labour local constituent. So often the national exco of the party chose a candidate they felt will be capable of effective representation and acceptable to the electorate. Most of the chosen candidate may not had even ever lived or knew where the constituency is situated in the country.

Obama will not be going through any primary this years before the U.S presidential election in November with his own party, so does it mean then that the democrats are not democratic?

Election is just one percent of democratic process. In fact you judge how democratic a nation is based on the behaviour/independent of its public media like the NTA, press freedom, transparency of the system, right of the minority opinion, consistency of the political opposition to have equal access to the democratic process.
Well said. A true reflection of a democratic party is seen in her regard for democratic institutions where the masses have their way not I don't give a damn stance we keep seeing in GEJ administration and by the way the opposition are not really better just that they are the closest alternatives to what we currently have

Billyonaire: Meanwhile, PDP remains the only truely Democratic Part in Nigeria. The facts are there to see. ACN is run by Tinubu and Tinubu alone, he anoints candidates for office, The board of trustees in ACN has no voice, the only loud voice is Tinubu. CPC is also regional party set up by Buhari for the sole aim of contesting for Presidency, its that same reason that he solely annoints himself and contest for Presidency every 4 years and may continue to do so until he is disgraced to retire like his colleague IBB. APGA is also regional, they clearly call themselves Igbo party, an attempt by a Northerner to convene a meeting of trustees met a parallel meeting in Ojukwu's compound with Gov Obi and Ojukwu's wife running things. What party again oh....hen en...ANPP, this was a major opposition in the early days of democracy, it was sort of national until greed tear them apart seeing most of the members swimming into PDP and some in limbo. So, PDP remains the only national democratic party with nominations openly done at Eagles Square. PDP leads, others follow. If PDP fails, Nigeria will actually shake. I cant trust Nigeria in the hands of Tinubu's regional party or Buhari's regional Party. They both are entrenched in regional jingoism.
There you go again, who is talking of regional or no regional? must you talk sh.iit everyday huh. PDP is a party of thieves, farucrocks, nepotism, favoritism and what more can I say.

I think a more radical approach will be taken by the president to tackle this lousy way of doing things because some of these non implementation processes keep dragging us backwards and slowing the developmental process. PoliticsPDP Is Nigeria’s Problem-Opposition Parties by superior1(op):
Three leading opposition parties on Thursday faulted President Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that democracy would have collapsed in the country without the ruling People’s Democratic Party.

The All Nigeria Peoples Party, the Action Congress of Nigeria and the Congress for Progressive Change said contrary to Jonathan’s claim, the PDP was the problem of democracy in the country.

The President, had at the PDP 60th National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Tuesday said, “People, who want to drown us know that without the PDP, probably, the Republic would have collapsed.”

Responding to the claim, the ANPP said the President was not saying the truth.

Rather, it said the PDP had destroyed democracy in the country.

Speaking in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Emma Eneukwu, said it was Nigerians who had been keeping vigil not to enable the PDP to destroy the nation’s democracy.

He said the PDP-led Federal Government had hijacked the Independent National Electoral Commission and therefore could boast that without the ruling party, democracy would become a thing of the past in the country.

He said, “The President was saying the opposite. He was not sincere with his comments.

“He knows that his political party is the problem of Nigeria and also aware that Nigerians now reject it and its candidates during elections.”

The ACN National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement, said the PDP was suffering from “delusion of grandeur.”

He said the PDP was the main problem hindering the growth of democracy in Nigeria because of its anti-democratic “antics, election manipulation tendencies and lack of respect for the rule of law.”

Mohammed said, “Mr. President, the reason Nigeria’s democracy has survived thus far is not the robustness of the PDP, as you have said, but the determination and courage of the good people of Nigeria, who have resolved to say ‘never again’ to anti-democratic forces, as well as the robust opposition mounted by a few progressive forces.

“Were it left for the PDP, this democracy as we know it, would have become history.”

The National Chairman, of the ACN, Chief Bisi Akande, described Jonathan’s claim as a fraudulent joke.

Akande said it was evident that the opposition in the country had better knowledge of the governance than the PDP.

Speaking through his media aide, Mr. Lani Baderinwa, Akande said large scale insecurity, poverty, corruption and inefficient administration had become the hallmark of the PDP governance.

Also, the National Publicity Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, said the PDP was cause of tension in the country.

He stated, “The PDP’s devious politics is the cause of the stress and threat to the nation’s democracy.

“Can you imagine that a party that ruled Edo State for 10 years without tarring one kilometre of road was expecting to use the usual ‘brutal’ force to hijack victory from a governor that had done more in four years than all its years of governance of the state?”

The Convener of Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, also faulted the President.

Mohammed, who is also the National Chairman of Peoples Salvation Party said, “We have people who know next to nothing about governance in power.

“If you fail to recognise the contribution of these groups, then you are not practising democracy.

“Anybody or any party who tries to even pretend that it can go it alone in governing a country of this complexity will lead us to very serious national crisis.”

PoliticsOba Of Benin - I Secretly Prayed For Oshiomhole’s Victory by superior1(op): 8:23am On Jul 19, 2012
The Bini monarch, Omo N’Oba Nedo, Oba Erediauwa, yesterday publicly revealed how he prayed for the re-election of Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, who got a second term last Saturday. The monarch urged him to complete the developmental work he has started across the state.

Oba Erediauwa made this known when Governor Oshiomhole led his deputy, Pius Odubu, commissioners and principal officers of his administration to officially present his Certificate of Return to the monarch.

“I am very glad to be able to address you publicly today the way I have been addressing you privately while praying for your Excellency’s second term. You are welcomed to our palace. We have watched what you have done, like the press is saying that your handiwork is going to campaign for you. I prayed to my ancestors for you too and everybody has seen what you are doing for the people.

“Some of the roads that were left unkempt, we have seen what you have done with everything and, of course, not in only Bini kingdom but in the entire state, infrastructural developments are going on. The last time you came, I prayed that you would come back to complete the unfinished business. As my chief was praying, he added in his prayers that God and the ancestors should provide you the wherewithal to carry on with your infrastructural development and do more. We look forward to seeing you more and more around here. I thank you very much for the promises you made as regards Bini kingdom. Allah dey, God be with you,” an obviously happy Oba told Oshiomhole.

The governor had earlier told the Oba that he was ready to continue his urban renewal project in Benin, the state capital, to such an extent that whoever takes over from him, will have no alternative but to continue from he stops. “I have obligation to deliver on welfare to the 18 local governments so that our people can sustain the unity of purpose that they have demonstrated by the way they have voted. We are ready to apply ourselves in full and to creatively manage the resources of Edo State to improve on the quality of life of Edo State.

“Let me assure Your Majesty that the great Bini kingdom will receive accelerated development. I will devote huge resources to continue to address our urban renewal programme to restore the glory of this great kingdom, reclaim the moat, which I know is dear to your heart as one of the legacies, and, indeed, one of the unique features that distinguish Benin City from the rest of the cities in Nigeria; we will complete our agenda at Ovonramnwen Square as well as the Ramat Park,” Oshiomhole said.

He promised that his administration would build a new Benin City, a complete new layout so that people, who wish to build in any part of the areas, will access them with ease and a city that is planned with all the features of a modern city.

“The only way I can reciprocate the uncommon support that I have received from the people of this kingdom is to apply ourselves over the next four years in a way that in the end, people will be able to appreciate that the trust, the confidence was well placed. I know that with your majesty’s prayers, God will enable us do all the good things in our heart so that this kingdom, the great kingdom throughout the length of Africa, not just Nigeria, will come out better. Just to say we are indebted to Your Majesty.

“You have taught us lessons that we will keep throughout our life-time and you have led the foundation on which all Edolites can build. It is only for us to pray to God Almighty to continue to grant Your Majesty good health and long life so that when I shall return here, at the end of my tenure, we will bring pictorial that will show that this kingdom has changed remarkably, such that whoever is going to take over from me will have no discretion but to continue from where we willhave stopped, so that Edo State remains that heartbeat of our great nation,” Governor Oshiomhole said.

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ambrose Alli, Ekpoma chapter, yesterday felicitated with the governor over his landmark victory in last Saturday’s election. “The result of the election is not surprising to us, given your outstanding pedigree in the administration of the state in these past three and half years,” the statement signed by Prof. Fred Asumeh and Stanley Omoikhoge, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, said.

The union called on Nigerian leadership to use the just-concluded election in Edo State as a guide to redirect election of credible leaders in the country, even as it commended INEC and law enforcement agencies for making the relative peace that characterised the election possible.

PoliticsRe: GEJ - Opposition Wants To Bring Us Down by superior1(op): 6:43am On Jul 19, 2012
dedeike: The transformation agenda is on course. Reforms are ongoing in every sector.

The finance ministry is carrying out bio metric evaluation of federal civil servants  to reduce waste. There is the new integrated online payment system which helps the minister monitor transfer of public funds. Our foreign reserves have risen again to 37 billion dollars. There's the proposed Soveriegn Wealth Fund to cater for excess oil sale proceeds.

In Energy, a lot of reforms. The president is keen on transparency and thus has set up probes into the sector viz KPMG AUDIT and AIG IMOUKHEDE. The president sought to close the window of corruption by removing subsidy but the cabal misled Labour into a protest. That notwithstanding, the reforms are still ongoing and the full deregulation of the downstream sector being vigorously pursued. Last week, the FG had concluded the PIB which remains a landmark legislation that will revolutionarize the petroleum  industry. Refineries are undergoing repairs and an American company, VULCAN is to build six more new refineries.

In roads, Zaria-Funtua-Gusau roads, Oshodi-Apapa with expansion and drainage works,  dedicated bridge frm liverpool roundabout to Tin can ports, trailer park, Dualisation  of Ibadan -Ilorin, ENUGU-Onitsha, completion of OWERRI -Onitsha,    9th mile, ongoing reconstruction of Benin-Ore-Sagamu highway measuring over 265 km, Kano-Maidugri Dualisation. Keffi -Akwanga-Lafia, award of Afikpo-Okigwe, Auchi-Okene being handled by Setraco. Loko-Eweta-Karishi bridge, Kolo-Nembe -Brass  to mention but a few.

In Transport, massive reforms at the ports. Sanitisation and reduction of operating agencies to 7. Introduction of 24 hrs ports operation. Ongoing Construction of light gauge train railways across t4 cardinal point of the federation

In  Aviation, massive reconstruction of major airports in the land, Enugu airport is undergoing total rehabilitation. The domestic wing of Abuja airport is also being reconstructed with expansion of roads and car parks. Same fr the international wing and the kano airports

In Education, establishment of 9 new federal universities in less than 1 year. Constructed 2 new campuses of the Nigerian law schools in Yenagoa and Yola respectively. Launched the Almajiri schools for education of itenerant Islamic pupils in the north wFhich Buhari and other northern leaders abandoned. Increased funding to almost 400 billion to education thereby setting an all time highest record. Reinvigorated the inspectorate oversight of schools leading to the revocation of some licenses from universities. Executed the landmark upgrade of university lecturers retirement age from 65 to 70.

In agriculture, for the first time in our history, we have a clearly defined agricultural policy which is targeted towards maximum utilisation of cassava for growth thru the launch of the cassava bread campaign. The policy is intended to reduce our reliance on imported wheat so as to encourage local production of cassava and it's conversion to flour for bakery. The FG has in less than one year eliminated the middlemen cartel that fed fat on fertiliser distribution at the expense of local farmers. Now through deregulation reforms, fertiliser is now accessible in the open market. he has also embarked on massive construction of silos and has increased import duties on the importation of rice in order to encourage local farmers. The efforts of the minister has been so appreciable that the world bank assisted with over 50 billion Naira for fertiliser redistribution scheme/ silos. The CBN has also set up a 500 billion loan scheme which is to assist farmers.

In power, the NIPP has been revived with the subsequent refurbishment of Afam, Alaoji, Calabar, GEREGU, Omotosho, papalanto power plants. This has led to the addition last December of 4,000 megawatts from barely 1700 to the national grid. To address the problem of distribution,  the 18 successor companies have been slated for privatization.  The media is already awash with news of the proposed privatization next week. The reforms include the review of tariffs in order to ensure a cost reflective tariff that will encourage private sector participation in the building of gas plants. Already, this has started yielding dividends as SPDC has commenced processes towards building a gas plant in IMO state.

Why does this man keep looking for irrelevant excuses?

he alerted the party members to the efforts of opposition parties to drown the PDP
Like ACN did in Edo State?

He assured that from the observed trend in recent weeks, the Boko Haram insurgency would soon be a thing of the past.

We are tired of hearing this same story, whatever became of the June deadline

The party also passed a vote of confidence on the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr Bamanga Tukur.

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, told chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that opposition parties have continued to run down the Federal Government and the ruling party.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 60th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, at its national headquarters in Abuja, he alerted the party members to the efforts of opposition parties to drown the PDP.

He said it was necessary to tackle the security challenges facing the nation, adding that Boko Haram was not responsible for the recent killing in Plateau State.

He assured that from the observed trend in recent weeks, the Boko Haram insurgency would soon be a thing of the past.

While assuring that the PDP would remain strong, he credited the party for preserving the unity of the country, through its good work and tolerance for opposition.

The president also revealed plans to involve key ministers in administration and the National Security Adviser (NSA) in subsequent meetings of the PDP NEC, to brief the party leaders of the efforts of government.

Meanwhile, the PDP NEC has accepted the resignation of former chairman of its BoT and former president, Chief Olusegun Obansanjo, who tendered his resignation on April 4, 2012.

The acceptance of his resignation was part of the decisions reached by the NEC, which also passed a vote of confidence on President Jonathan.

The party also passed a vote of confidence on the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Dr Bamanga Tukur.
