Demdem: Odili is the only Nigerian i know of that have a perpetual injuction from the court against arrest by any security outfit. His wife seats in the Supreme Court, so who born the Judge wey go send oga hubby go prison, the Judge wan die ni? If you see any Nigerian who doesn't know some people are above the law, such is either an im..becile or a novice. Kai, I weep for naija |
dasparrow: I feel for you bros. My mom is affected too because she built a house in Mpape back in the day before Abuja became the capital of Nigeria. Though my mom does not live there because she has her own property in Garki, my aunt and her kids live in the house my mom built. Now, the house has been marked for demolition. Its really sad. Nigerian politicians really do not have any compassion for the ordinary citizens. Where do they want you all to move to? My mom told me of this Mpape demolition saga last week when we spoke over the phone. At the time my mom built her house there, Mpape was mostly bush. Now that people have used their life savings to build their houses, the government wants to demolish it because some greedy political heiffers want to build their mansions on the land. I tire for Nigeria matter.Heart breaking ![]() |
jiggo: I am a resident of Mpape. I have heard and listened to a whole lot of what people have said, my questions are as follows:Feel for you bro. My Cousin told me the same-thing about Patience Jonathan interest in the area. What I keep wondering is why Govt closed their eyes when people were pouring their life savings in erecting structures in this area. Was the area marked for planning initially and were people adequately informed about this?, how will the billions in investment lost to the demolition be compensated? |
This is apart from properties to be demolished in 18 other villages which would suffer similar fate at the same period, even as there is a subsisting court order restraining the FCTA from carrying out the demolition. The FCTA had given a two-month notice to residents of Mpape and 18 other communities to leave the areas on or before August 31 as the areas had been earmarked for demolition. This is more hardship on the people. Know folks who spend hard earned income on erecting properties in this area |
Residents of at least 10,288 houses in Mpape would be rendered homeless by August 31, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said that it is fine-tuning arrangements for the demolition of the properties which it termed as illegal. This is apart from properties to be demolished in 18 other villages which would suffer similar fate at the same period, even as there is a subsisting court order restraining the FCTA from carrying out the demolition. The development is contrary to the directive of an Abuja High Court in Bwari last Friday: it ordered the parties to maintain the status quo and ordered the minister to halt the planned demolition of Mpape pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by Mpape residents asking the court to restrain the FCTA from demolishing their houses. Though Justice Abubakar Kutigi refused to grant order of perpetual injunction to restrain the FCTA, he held that, with or without such order, once a matter was before a court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication, all parties in the matter were bound to maintain the status quo. He adjourned to October 11 for commencement of hearing of the substantive matter. The FCTA had given a two-month notice to residents of Mpape and 18 other communities to leave the areas on or before August 31 as the areas had been earmarked for demolition. The pronouncement by the FCTA has been the subject of protests and debate with many organisations, including the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), wading in to ensure the rights of the people are not violated in the process. But a statement from the office of the minister, signed by his chief press secretary, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, said the administration had already marked 10,288 illegal structures in Mpape for demolition just as it had intensified sensitisation and consultation with village chiefs and residents of the area. According to the statement, the FCT minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, who disclosed this during the monthly FCT Operations Briefing Session in Gwarinpa I District, Abuja, said the administration welcomed the court pronouncement of last Friday on the impending Mpape demolition and urged the affected persons to please show understanding. The minister said while the FCTA would uphold the rule of law in consonance with the transformation agenda of the federal government, it was gratifying that the court “has justified the mandate of the FCT administration for such action thus far”. Mohammed appealed to residents to cooperate with the government as demolitions were carried out in the interest of the people since it was not intended to inflict hardship on the residents, adding that the sustained health as well as security of the collective populace are of paramount concern. He added that apart from safeguarding the Abuja Master Plan, demolitions were usually carried out for sanitary and security reasons because threats in these realms had to be nipped in the bud. |

IF, when the Lagos State government outlined new regulations restricting the movement and activities of beggars within the Lagos metropolis thought that was the end of the matter, it was wrong. The beggars who had not hidden their opposition to the restrictions yesterday took to the streets, walking in their hundreds to the governor’s office in Alausa, protesting alleged maltreatment and extortion they receive at the hands of law enforcement agents in the state. In a statement a copy of which was obtained by The Guardian ,the beggars under the auspices of Beggars Association of Nigeria (BAN), accused law enforcement agents of incessant arrest, maltreatment and extortion. According to them: “We , the people with disabilities in Lagos state adopt this medium to express our displeasure and unhappiness towards the actions taken and the one to be taken by the Lagos state government administration. “First, our movement within Lagos has been restricted such that anyone caught roaming and begging for alms on the road will be taken to Majidun prison in Ikorudu. “At the prison, all our belongings will be seized from us and we are also maltreated by the management. The condition of the prison is so appalling and devastating that it causes more harm to our health and among other things , there is no religious freedom, privacy or conveniences as the case may be.” The spokesman for the beggars, Mallam Zakariya Hassan also accused the state of collecting a large sum of money from them to aid their release from the prison. According to him: “When they take you to the prison and you want to be released, they ask for around N45,000.00 to N50,000.00 which they tell you to go and pay into a Zenith Bank account. “After that, they collect the teller from us and give us receipt which we take to Majidun Prison before one is released. “I was just released from the prison after some people who love me contributed the amount which they asked from me and paid to Alausa people. “Right now, more than 50 of our people are being detained in Majidun Prison and that is why we have decided to cry out to media houses, non governmental organizations, human rights activists and individuals to come to our aide.” The beggars also appealed to the state government to make better provisions that will bring an end to their present hardship by calling those agents that maltreat and extort money from them to order Source: http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=94726:in-lagos-beggars-decry-restrictions-match-on-govs-office-alausa&catid=3:metro&Itemid=558 |

If you really believe in your future plans, 6 months is a little price to pay. Just turn all your energy and passion to offsetting the debt and before you know it its 6 months. |
Riding motor-cycle without crash helmet for rider and passenger (Penalty) N20,000 or 3 years imprisonment or both. WTF |
dedeike:Laptop 15, the OP has been giving facts backed by newspaper articles. You need to state contrary facts (backed by newspaper articles) to make your statement a little sensible. |
dedeike: It just remains for you guys to convert GEJ to a policeman and deploy him to the streets. For the past one month, we have enjoyed relative peace in Nigeria until yesterday when these urchins attacked some parts of the north. This invitation has been extended to the Nigerian President a month back and he gave them their word to attend. It will also be recalled that the Jamaican president had visited Nigeria severally in the past.Laptop 15, we also don't give a damn about him, he can go to hell for all we care (with Patience of course). He should at least be at home to read us his well repeated condolence message and give us a new date (like August 31) when he hope to solve the BH terror. |
On top of David Mark’s head roves a giant question mark. When he opens his mouth remarkable gaffes gush out. It is a mark of complete genuflection of a nation that such a scion of corruption is at the head of the upper house of the people’s assembly. His bland mind marketed as diplomatic is impervious of his environment. Otherwise he would have noticed from his hospital bed that it was Israeli media that kept the heat on until former Israeli President Moshe Katsav was sentenced to seven-years for Molestation. What a description. I have always known this guy to be one of the plagues afflicting this country. kai, Nigeria don suffer from bad leadership oo |
dedeike: They should tell Mr. GBAJA, sorry GBAJABIAMILA, the fraudster to resign first then we can take it up from there. Foolish people.Laptop 15, the guy made a valid point (not withstanding ACN is also full of shiit). Must you always see all political news as we versus them?. Haba, dey use sense once awhile now ![]() |
