My wife kneels to greet me every morning, I am just 11months older and she earns twice my monthly pay. A man does not kneel in my culture and unless i committed a very strong offence (like God forbid, impregnating another woman) I find no reason prostrating to her. |
President Goodluck Jonathan may have an uphill task in winning the 2015 presidential election, if he decides to contest: there are indications that the north will not voted for him. Former speaker of the House of Representatives and a staunch supporter of the president in the run-up to the 2011 general elections, Alhaji Ghali Umar Na’Abba, has declared that the north would not vote for President Jonathan in 2015 “because he did lots of things wrong to the North”. The former speaker, who spoke exclusively to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, declared thus: ‘The way President Jonathan has been handling the party, there is a wide gap between him and northerners. And I am afraid that northerners will not return him to power again, because he did lots of things wrong to the north. The feeling is very strong against him.” Asked if he foresees the possibility of the north stopping Jonathan from clinching a second term in office, Na’Abba responded: ‘It is very possible because, right now in the north, the feeling is that Jonathan is not worth voting for. People feel that most of the people who supported him didn’t have the moral laxity to go and canvass for votes for Jonathan in the north. Those whose houses were burnt during the electoral violence have not been compensated. Lots of people do not have faith in him.” Asked if he had any regrets supporting the president in the 2011 general elections, Na’Abba said that he was concerned about unfulfilled promises especially to the north. He said: ‘When he was a candidate, what he often told us was that he would give attention to agriculture. And as a northerner, I am very passionate about agriculture. My regret is that I have not seen any northern farmer who is happy as a result of anything Jonathan’s agriculture policy has brought to him. But I hope before the end of his tenure, he is going to fulfil his promises. Otherwise, it will make it very difficult for some of us to support him again.” Na’Abba who was the speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 -2003 was a victim of the post- 2011 election violence: he lost his properties in Kano. Reflecting on the incident, he attributed it to his support for President Jonathan. “It was because I supported Jonathan then. And it was because he was the candidate of my party and as a leader, it will not augur well for us to begin to cross from one political party to another. Another time a northerner will be the flag-bearer of the party; do we expect people from Bayelsa State to vote for us?” On the most challenging period of his stewardship as the speaker of the House of Representatives, Na’Abba said that it was the period the House commenced impeachment proceedings against the then president Olusegun Obasanjo. ‘The most challenging moment was the time the National Assembly was going to impeach President Obasanjo. For four months, between August and November 2002 when the matter was eventually dropped, it was not easy because I was seen to be the arrow-head. I was seen to be the mobiliser and orchestrator. My office and residence became a beehive of activities with different people coming to persuade me to tell the National Assembly to drop the matter. “It was not easy because it was not really my plan. It was a National Assembly issue. Of course, I took an active part in whatever happened because I believed that Nigeria would have been much better without Obasanjo,” Na’Abba remarked http://www.leadership.ng/nga/articles/34486/2012/09/09/no_way_jonathan_2015_naabba.html |
Okupe wan dey use strong face scatter matter |
Ijebulogic: We can be blindly patriotic in Nigeria sometimes. Some NLanders are already cursing Israel on this story. Please stop and ask yourself why any country would wake up and target immigrants from another country for deportation? Could it be that as a country with one of the best intelligence agencies in the world, they now have access to security information that indicates that the menace of the latest terrorist group in the world - BH, is about to spread its wings beyond the shores of Nigeria? Dont forget we have Israeli agents working closely with our security agents here in Nigeria. Jews have been persecuted since the beginning of time...forgive them if they are a bit paranoid about immigrants from a country that is now churning out panty-bombers and BH extremists. Now, this is what i call sound and sensible reasoning |

What do you guys expect from Abati , the guy is only competing for relevance. Since Okupe is allover the place, Abati is also expected to say something to protect his payer or risk being boot out totally. As a matter of fact, i really pity abashit |
@OP, I like your write-up, you really made my day |
When the desirable is not available, the available becomes desirable. Writing their CV for a good job in the future will be a task. |

I love true Federal System Nigeria. I hate this current Nigeria |
Demdem: i detest anyone that brings stupidity and cluelessness to the sit of power. making the seat a dumb one whereas it isnt. The Retardeen is most likely a wonderful husband, father, zoo-keeper but obviously miserable in the acts of governance right from his bayelsa days. So u see, it isnt personal. I have the interest of my country at heart. That's what i keep telling the 40 lappy, it is never personal. E.g, electricity in my area has improved seriously (although the bill is killing me) but i know how much i have saved buying fuel for my gen. It is never personal, if Jona do am well, it is the benefit of this country, myself and my kids. But if the Retardeen (make i borrow Demdem grammar)thinks he can mess this country for us, then he will never get any e-support from me. |
ifihearam: So its now the job of the president to carry out investigations, why does he have a chief of staffIf.I.hear.Am, now you need to really hear yourself talking. Haba, if the president with all security organs at his disposal will refuse to do background checking before appointing people, then that president is doomed. Little wonder, Jona has Boko Haram in his cabinet. Who does the chief of staff, Military Intelligence, NSA, SSS, EFCC, ICPC etc ultimately report to... It is the exclusive duty of the president to research, appraise, evaluate and investigate all his appointees because ultimately their failure is his' |
Inik: At least he should have the decency to resignDecency, ni ilu yi . dat one na alibaba talk[quote author=God's Mercy]From this report, it's very clear being a stakeholder in a company does not cumulate of being the owner. Demdem: But why should suspects die in police custody? what is the meaning of this?Quite obvious, Boko Haram and the Nigerian Police are allies |
ifihearam: Okupe was arrested by EFCC,detained for a month or so and let go I 2005:how does that cocern the presidentBecause the president is silly and desperate enough to appoint such a questionable character as a spokesman knowing his background and antecedent |
The attack dog now has more than enough bones to chew. |
New presidential attack dog, Dr. Doyin Okupe, road construction contracts from the governments of Benue and Imo States and got substantial payments, his lawyers have admitted. On his behalf, the Lagos law firm of Yemi Gbonegun and Co said today that the rural road construction contracts were awarded in 2004 and 2005 to companies in which Dr. Okupe has substantial interests and served as Chairman, but denied they were awarded to him personally. And beyond the mobilization payments, those companies received other payments over a period exceeding two years continuously for work done, the statement said. “We also confirm that contrary to reports in the media, on no account did any of the companies bolt away with any money and if they had, the state governments would have legally had recourse to the Bank Guarantees issued, held the banks accountable and recovered their monies,” the statement said. It said disputes about certificates of payments arose in both transactions, claiming that this is normal between a contractor and its employers, and that the issues were at different times thoroughly investigated by the EFCC, but that no fraud or any criminality was ever found against any of the Companies. “In the case of Imo State Government a settlement agreement out of court was reached while in Benue State both parties agreed to go in for arbitration in accordance with the provisions of the signed contract document,” it further said. Today’s statement by Yemi Gbonegun and Co. raised more questions than it answered. It did not explain why, as previously reported by SaharaReporters, Dr. Okupe was personally detained by the EFCC for an entire month in 2006. In 2005, during the tenure of Governor Achike Udenwa, Okupe went to Imo state with a business partner, the Israeli businessman Ilan Salman. Okupe got a contract to import Romix Soilfix, a soil stabilizing substance, from South Africa for the construction of four kilometres of road in each of the 27 local government areas at the rate of N14 million per km. That amounted to N1.512 billion. Okupe was paid mobilization fee of N400 million twice (totaling N800m). He was then paid another N350 million for the little work done, with just about 8km out of the 108km Romix promised to construct. This means that Okupe was paid over N1.2billion, with very little to show for it. He carried out his lack of work in the State in collaboration with the former Speaker of the Imo State Assembly, Chief Godfrey Dikeocha. As investigations into the daylight hoax heated up, Okupe’s engineers were arrested in Owerri alongside the LGA chairmen and moved to Ikoyi, Lagos. In addition, Okupe’s head office, which was at that time on Isale Eko Street in Dolphin Estate, was sealed up and Chief Okupe locked up for one month by the EFCC, but he was never tried. The situation in Benue State was similar. Through Messrs Value Trust Investments Ltd., Okupe secured a contract valued at N2.303 billion, again for the construction of rural roads across the state. By July 17, 2006, he had been paid N886.8m. The man who would later be invited by President Goodluck Jonathan to serve as his leading voice on Public Affairs then disappeared. That case, as was the situation in Imo State, was brought to the EFCC. With today’s statement by his lawyers, Okupe confirms the two contracts that have come to light but not their details, including why the contracts were never completed, or what was done with the vast sums he collected using his top-level access in the People’s Democratic Party. FORMER military president, General Ibrahim Baban-gida, at the weekend, enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the continued survival of Nigeria, saying that “we have no other country that we can call our own.” Babangida, who restated his belief in the indivisibility of the country, also challenged Nigerians to ensure Nigeria remains one indivisible entity. Speaking when he received the acting governor of Niger State, Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who led a delegation of the state government to his Minna residence, to felicitate with him on his birthday, Babangida said there was hope that Nigeria would become one of the greatest countries, not only in Africa but the entire world. “We should pray for the survival of Nigeria. We have to work together as a people, we must make it (Nigeria) work. Anything you can do to keep Nigeria together, do it; the country will be better for it,” he said. The former military president expressed gratitude to the government and people of Niger State and all Nigerians for identifying with him, saying that he would continue to remain committed to the country. Speaking earlier, the deputy governor had said the government and people of the state would continue to appreciate the landmarks General Babangida made in the history of the country, especially in economic and political developments and social regeneration. Ibeto said Babangida had taught Nigerians how to continue to pursue policy and programmes that would bring about national unity and development, saying that Nigeria would continue to rely on his wisdom. Prayer was led by the Chief Imam of Minna, Alhaji Abu Fari, who also offered prayers for the peace and unity of Nigeria and the repose of the late wife of General Babangida, Maryam. Among those at the residence were diplomats; former Managing Director of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Umoru Ndanusa; vice chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Alhaji Tanko Beji; Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta; Senator Abbdulmalik Ndayako; Secretary to the Niger State Government, Mr Daniel Shashere, among others.
