GabrielYulaw: Rumor confirmed. So those guys were lying about the reliability and reach of their rifles. Not very surprised.
No reasons given in the article also no source where this information came from, but i do not think the Tavor has reliability issues as you assume - export customers would have reported those.
Stargate254: What's stopping NAF airforce going back to the design board and perfecting this ventilator then mass producing it for every hospital in Nigeria and possibly beyond? This should be the new way of thinking.. lets put money in research and see what our brightest minds come up with before we even think about how we are going to mass produce the successful prototypes that they come up with.
Those are my 2cents
What was holding them back is that setting up a factory to produce ventilators is not the job of an Air Force to do so. It does not make economically sense for them, not to speak that it takes months/years to build such a facility - Covid will be over then. We should follow the path of Turkey and South Korea and invite the private sector to produce items we need, let it be in in license to begin with. Better grow an environment first where innovative ideas can be transformed into useful products - by the private sector for the public sector.
Stargate254: I mean, look at the Ezwugu MRAP that Nigeria makes, first version looked like they took a chassis and wielded armourments as a body and called it an MRAP, It looked funny, it looked to heavy.... A few years later, each newer version looked more professional, and now if you put that MRAP in the middle of others in a Military exhibition show in Dubai or Paris, no one will doubt that it belongs there.
And if you think about it, Manufacturing equipment isn't the biggest challenge to owning an invention, the biggest challenge is designing and simulating that the product works even before you make the first prototype for testing.... When you are license building something you don't get to make decisions or gain a lot of experience on this part, You are making products that have already been designed and tested, you are basically following step by step instructions made by the real inventors. So we can start by sending our brightest to these institutions to learn from the best before coming back to do wonders.
1. The biggest challenge is to manage the production process, everyone in the industry knows that Look at Tesla, their products are highly innovative and there is demand but still they struggle in terms of quantity and quality. The success of VW and Toyota is based on their unmatched perfected supply, logistics and production management. This is why those mentioned countries followed this route.
2. People ignore the fact that the Ezwugu MRAP and the ARA 1 have nothing in common, beside the they are based on a Ukrainian truck chassis. The ARA 1 design has some foreign influence - by SA engineers.
Stargate254: One decade ago, If I read something like this, I would have said its wishful thinking but As we have seen time and time again, its not too late to start your mil industrial RnD.... some countries started with sh!!t that looked funny and they were ridiculed for their so called inventions, 10-30 years later, and no one is laughing anymore, They are exporting - selling and eating into the pie of those that used to laugh at them. All is needed is political will, a set of strictly followed timeframes run by good management team and full budgetary allocations and soon enough we will be surprising ourselves with each newer version of our prototype.
China, South Korea and Turkey did not start with clumsy inventions. No nation would spend 100s millions on second class arms just to support the local defence industry. These countries followed a better plan: First they layed the foundation of their defense industry by license building foreign equipment and platforms. And then with a functioning industry at the base, manned with a well trained workforce, they acquired successively more and more technology-transfer deals to catch up. Today their academically educated workforce can innovate into new fields and produce state of the at equipment. This takes decades and not just will but also a huge amount of financial resources that we dont have at the moment.
Guys don't forget @samuelAnyawu made mention of some new equipment being tested on the military base he staying. Honestly am not happy about this equipment but half cake is better than none
In fact the video does not reveal what type of equipment has been moved. All i can say is that the NorincoType 89 is not in production anymore.
We all knew this for a long time, i hope more officials are going to come forward now. The Buhari administration has driven Nigeria into an alarming state of affairs. It is a shame, not even inside the NDA Campus people are safe anymore.
- A community where DOGS kill LIONS is not a safe place to live.
I know none here would pay attention to the above interview. Instead let's keep fantasizing on shiny new toys until they all become useless like the ones in Afghanistan.
kabe1: American policy in Afghanistan was to develop Democratic institutions, did that happen?
This is common misconception, the mission in Afghanistan was never about nation building. This has been said clearly by all administrations from Bush-Obama-Trump and this is the reason why any efforts to build democratic structures were done so half-heartily.
FOX News and their host Tucker the motherfukker cannot even air 7mins about Afghanistan without pushing their political agenda with rants about critical race theory and the Mexican border. *LOL
youghs: The remnants of the Afghan army, which have taken refuge in the Panjshir Gorge.
August 16, 2021.
It is said that 22 military aircraft and 24 military helicopters with 585 armed servicemen flew from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan on August 14-15. Warlords Dostum and Ata Noor (Northern Alliance) and their militas also fled to Uzbekistan after the fall of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
youghs: Just a month offensive to reduce the fighting capability of Taliban would have given the Afghan govt more time but the idiot ordered withdrawal when the taliban were at their peak just like that. Democrats have always been bastards Na God go punish biden.
The situation is painful and annoying.
Trump hold peace talks with the Taliban in Doha and signd an agreement to withdraw in May(!). This became a lost case when 350.000 Afghan security forces showed zero will to fight 60.000 Taliban. How much more support did they deserve?
Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has arrived in Kabul and has entered the Presidential Palace where Ghani, US and NATO officials are present. Kabul to be handed over to the Taliban and a new transitional government will be formed (led by the IEA). Taliban released a statement called announcing Victory and congratulated people of Afghanistan, adding that they are not going to attack Kabul.
lebuhsi: scenarios are different in the case, the Taliban has shown that they can come to a political compromise, as shown in the negotiations with the United States and with the local government. no one can stop them now can they? everybody has to adjust to the unfolding realities. As a legitimate government the Taliban can be held to account as they cannot live in economic isolation, Afghanistan is a landlocked country, the Pakistanis would not give overt(or significant covert) support to the Taliban, to the detriment of their relationship with the west.
The scenarios are very similar: Years ago the Taliban renounced Al-Qaeda woth the goal to become a recognized negotiating partner and opened a Office in Qartar. Which led to the current situation the country is in today. Now ISWAP started rooting out "Boko Haram" because they are too radical. The unfolding reality of global Jihadism is gaining ground.
lebuhsi: well, the Taliban running things in Afghanistan was a matter of when not if. As much as I hate it, the Taliban would bring peace and stability to a country that hasn't seen peace since Antiquity, the pros outways the Cons
This will be exactly the words other countries are going to say if ISAWP should take over Mali or lake Chad.
kabe1: I don't get this, these countries are right on the border with Afghanistan, they have the right to protect their own citizens no matter what.
Well, China and Russia do not share any boarders with Afghanistan but they do see this part of Asia as their sphere of influence. Recognizing the Taliban could start a negative domino effect that could become a threat to Nigeria. Just image the effect, if countries like those mentioned, would recognize ISWAP and start to negotiate with them on a diplomatic level. Nigeria must take a tough stance against anyone trying to legitimize Jihadism.
One more this has to be said: The US strategy of nation building failed but any country who recognized this Jihadists is a traitor and cannot be a friend of Nigeria. And yes, i am looking at Russia, China and Pakistan here. We should watch their body language closely now.
kabe1: How does the US spend 20 years fighting in Afghanistan, only to have the Taliban take over the country in 1 month?
This is a military of enormous proportion no one is talking about.
Why blame Afghanistan, who were the US really bombing in that country?
I as far as i understand the US strategy they were expecting the Afghan army will hold a stalemate and the government will then broker a peace deal with the Taliban and form a new government. But it seems the withdrawal of NATO Troops was such a shock that the government and including all institutions (including army, police and civil services) collapsed within 2 weeks. The Taliban's diplomacy missions to China and Russia gave them an extra big boost.
Geronimoe: My fear is the trickling of some of these arms down to Africa.
I dont think their arms will reach us but Kabul will fall in the next 30 Days to the Taliban and it will be a big win for global Jihadism because Russia, China and Pakistan are willing to recognize their claim to power. Counter insurgency is all about winning the hearts and minds of the people and here we have a prime example what happens if this center piece of the military operation fails.
willybaby: excess defence article again, that's how we received ships (NNS THUNDER and CENTENARY) after enough boy boy to the USA, ships that were totally stripped of all offensive and defensive capabilities with only canons left, cannons that I have not even seen the NN fire even in training, ..
Sorry if am not estatic, has the USA been a good military partner to us the answer is NO...
There were only cannons on the those ex US Coastguard Cutters in the first place and you understand that OPVs roles do not require offensive weapons other then guns. The only module they removed was the outdated Phalanx CIWS - same condition as those given to the Philippines. Do you expect anyone will gift us an fully equipped Air-Defence Destroyer for free hugs?
This is a Garmin handheld GPS device. Who would thought this kind of thing on a Russian aircraft. I just checked their website, most of their devices are capable using GLOSSNAS too.
Stormtrooper11: Firstly, the Nigerian army wasn't supposed to be there. I don't know if there was any official invitation by the government. The Nigerian army wasn't supposed to shoot live rounds on its citizens or at any target cos it wasn't a violent protest. The Nigerian army wasn't shot at or assaulted. This is a total breach of the Nigerian army rules of engagement and international laws guiding human rights.
The Nigerian military is overstretched with tasks they are not supposed to do - providing public security is one of them. Riot control for example should be handled exclusively by the police who are trained and mandated for this task. There are certain situations were the support of the army could be necessary but this should always be exceptional and not the routine as it is at the moment.
The reason why the military is so present in public spaces has to do with decades of military rule where the Police was mistrusted, disarmed and crippled by fine gentleman like Buhari to the point were the NPF became almost dysfunctional. The results of decades of decay of the NPF left visible scars in the Nigerian society where ordinary people can barely distinguish between criminals and criminals in uniform.
Building up a Police service that "serves" its citizen and performs professional in all aspects needs financial investment and willing to reform /restructure the current NPF from head to toe.
Covert1: So far in exercises against Rafales in air-air combat the JF-17 has performed better in certain parameters than the F-16 in Pakistani inventory scoring more hits against the Rafale.
The JF-17 performed better in exercises against the Rafale? Sorry, i cannot believe this. Do you have a reliable source for this claims?
Just by looks at the data i strongly believe the Rafale is a better aircraft in all aspects - not even comparable to the JF-17. Can you elaborate what systems in the JF-17 has that are not present in the Rafale R4?
bidexiii: NAF did little, they haven't learnt how to safely locate and extract pilots, imagine using his own phone?! cry
Well said mate !
A commercial Satellite Communicator can do GPS Navigation, Location Sharing and SMS. This should be issued to every pilot sitting in a cockpit. Additionally there should be a GPS beacon in the aircraft for easy location of the wreck. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/699779
