I commented on a thread yesterday that was about how much that can last someone through the week, I posted that I can manage 3k for a week and I was literary dragged and trolled through the thread. Some accused me of lying while some said I still live with my parents, others saw my post as a scheme to accrue favour from people. I never wanted to open a thread about this, but as God would have it, he blessed me ( Not from that thread) through Nairaland best roofer and known philanthropist @ money121 and @despian that sent me something to help with my school project. I managed to squeeze out a little money and branch to the market to get some food stuffs. Below is a detail of how I spent 3k on food stuffs that would last me a week. Rice 1 mudu(8 cups) : #600 Beans 1 mudu(8 cups) : #900 Potato : #500 1/2 bottle of palm oil : #400( I add just enough to colour the food) 1 packet of maggi : #250 Powder pepper :#100 Onions :#100 Airtime :#100 Total :#2950 The remaining #50 is for Chelsea match later in the evening. While I didn't make this post to glorify poverty but it seems some people are oblivious to the situation of things in the country at the moment. Apparently the hardship levels is skewed, based on the values that people were quoting on that thread. While some food stuffs are at a premium at the moment, there are some of us that cut our suit according to our ankara. Next is how I manage the foodstuff to last me a week in no particular order. Day one: Rice and beans Day two: beans and potatoes Day three: only Rice Day four: porridge potatoes Day five : only beans Day six: Rice and beans Day seven: potatoes and oil Fortunately the stomach does not disclose its contents. I iterate through the list during the week, I spend only #100 on airtime during the week. I don't call any body and spend #25 daily for 250 mb night sub which I use to apply for jobs. I wait for the following week when it gets exhausted. I use salt as makeshift paste and patronize Hausa black soap for bathing. I've my faze cap to conceal my overgrown hair, though my lord luggard esque moustache have a way of bringing my legs outside. I fetch well water, boil and sieve it, in that way home made Eva water is set, who knows I might own a pure water factory in future so I'm practicing now. Added plus: My Girlfriend It's a popular opinion on nairaland and the country in general that most Nigerian girls are useless and are out to bring nothing but misfortune and misery to our lives. I beg to disagree because the ones around me (mom, siblings and gf) are anything but useless. My current girlfriend is a frugal spender and taught me how to spend prudently. She taught me how to cook thereby cutting the amount I spend on food to a significant level. I can give her just #1500 and she would prepare two pots of stew and soup to last me a week. Like my Oga @chatinet would say there are still women that can go to the market with 3k and come back with two nylons. While other nairalanders open thread open threads about their parasitic girlfriends, mine is actually helping me through a difficult phase in my life. Sadly despite my pitiful standard of living, I still have people that I'm better than and see me as a senior man. Its that bad. I'm not comfortable with my condition so I'm looking for jobs so as to improve my standard of living. My fellow nairalanders help me to start eating with meat by offering my any job available. I'm a graduate of Statistics/Computer Science (bsc ed) and a web developer. So the doubting Thomas's here's a breakdown of my 3k weekly spending. Modified: Obviously some people are still doubting my credibility. I stay in north bank, Makurdi Benue State for those asking.

nurain150:I already sent a mail but no response yet. |
money121:Thank you very much sir and may God bless you sir, I will definitely update my progress here. As you've sowed this seed into my life the lord shall continue to enrich you |
money121:Thank you so much sir |
henrybangs44:Lol, I don't know why everyone thinks its not feasible, there are some weeks I've even gotten by on less than that. It's not ideal for me at all but man gats make do with what he can afford. |
Lordofalmajiri:Makurdi Benue State |
money121:10k will go a long way sir, but I can manage whatever it is that you're moved to give. |
Arrogantbro:. |
Eze2000:I'm payimg rent, but I reside in Benue so food is a bit cheap here. |
spartoo:I'm a fresh graduate so I don't have a job yet, opera mini has eliminated the need for airtime, I'm just managing, its not like I'm comfortable with it. I'm seeking ways to improve my standard of living. |
spartoo:Not at all, beans one module (8cups) is #900, potatoes #500, palm oil #400, maggi #100, onions #100, Rice one module #650. I cook with electric stove, so no need for gas, the things I mentioned can effectively serve me for one week, I can remember the last time I cooked with crayfish or fish. Its the reality on ground and I've adapted to it. |
moralistic:lol....I stay alone, but one gats live within his means. I can't afford more than that for now. |
I'm kinda surprised at the amounts being mentioned here, people dey flex shaa, I can manage 3k shaa depends on the weight of the pocket |
money121:Good afternoon sir, I'm a fresh graduate though I'm still in school due to my project, my project has been approved since last weekand I'm supposed to proceed to spiral binding but I don't have a dime on me, even to feed once a day has been a herculean task. Anything I can get will go a long way in helping me with my project so that I can get it done and face other things squarely. Here is a link to a thread that I created on nairaland soliciting for help and links to jobs that in I can involve myself in the interim while I conclude my project. https://www.nairaland.com/6827675/struggles-fresh-graduate Though I didnt get much audience from the thread, I would very much appreciate if you can share it on your group probably I can get a much needed job from there. Thanks for your good works and God bless you.

Tohsynetita1:Okay sir, done that |
DontBullshitMe:Statistics/Computer science (bsc ed) |
NtiObaEneke:Thanks for the compliment, I will put it into consideration |
tensazangetsu20:Thanks boss I will check it out, but I need things I can do at the moment to earn money no matter how little |
DAVIDMOE:Thanks for your advice but I'm not sure that I'm really good at writing, I consider writing as one of my weak points. |
Good day N'landers, hope you're all enjoying your weekend??.... Some weeks ago I posted about my graduation from the university, it was more of a relief than a celebration for me due to the stress and struggles that came with university education. I've always envisaged that the main struggle lies after graduation but I never expected it to be this tough and fast paced. I've applied for teaching jobs in my area but the payment being offered is condescending, the highest offer so far is 12k which can't cover transport talk less of feeding. I've stayed away from menial jobs since I slipped and fell from a make shift staircase carrying two 9 inches blocks. I ended up borrowing money for treatment which cost me more than thrice what I was paid for the job. The essence of creating this thread is to solicit for suggestions on how to earn a living as a fresh graduate with no experience to boast of at the moment. I would very much appreciate if I can be given ideas and links to jobs that I can do with my laptop. I've gotten some ideas from Nairaland but they involve some sort of minimal investment like domain flipping, drop shipping, mini importation and many more. I can barely feed once a day so I can't afford to embark on those jobs though I would've very much loved to, its pitiful that I can't even afford a $10 expired domain to kick start domain flipping at this stage in life. I've been learning web development for a while now though my progress stalled due to some circumstances beyond my control, I stopped at react because somehow my PC would take hours to create just a react app so I had to abandon it for the sake of my mental wellness because the frustration was affecting my sanity. I had to port to WordPress development which I've been learning for some weeks now alongside UX/UI design. I've been applying for data entry jobs on indeed with no success so far. I'm open to learn new skills that can fetch me money to take care of my basic needs while I brush up my digital skills, most times I'm unable to afford data for night plan so as to access my courses on udemy and it's deeply frustrating. I'm slowly tilting towards avoidable depression. Please my fellow nairalanders, help me with a job that I can do to keep body and soul together before something happens to somebody's son abeg. I'd rather work for money than beg for alms online, it's not like I have anyone to beg by the way. I'm just on my own. PLEASE SAVE ME!!! I've been broke for almost all my life and I really need to experience financial freedom, I'm tired of drinking this pover..tea. |
nurain150:Very much interested boss |
nurain150:Boss I'm interested, I just graduated recently with no job forthcoming so far, please can you hook me up?? |
So I decided to go play football in my area this evening, after the training one of my team mates approached me and said he wanted us to have two aside. Senior man good evening, I don dey hustle your 11 digits since, he stated. I asked him if I'm safe because I don't know him from Adam so I don't see why he should be looking for my contact. He went on to say that he has a trial to attend and he's short of cash at the moment and needs help with his transport. I had only #500 at home which was my home and abroad but since it was the first time of him asking me of help I asked him to follow me home and I gave him the money. Now this has been a reoccurring incident in recent years, people always mistake me for a rich person whereas I just a broke fresh graduate still trying to find his feet. I wonder what makes them think in that manner because I don't look sophisticated neither do I put on flashy stuff. I have just few cloths. Guys in my area accord me a level of respect that I'm not comfortable with, most people don't even know my name. They all refer to me as senior man while there are people older than me that they don't accord the same respect. They always have a reason to ask me for money, its either I'm paying for someone in the film hall to watch a football match all I'm leaving my change for some area guy that bumped into me while I'm buying something. There's this particular guy that I'm always paying for in the viewing center, I also sent him money when he went to Lagos for one football trial. Only for me to realize that he got covid loan and got a bike which he gave out for higher purchase, this guy is far richer than I am. Since then I stopped giving him money. Is there anyone experiencing the same thing? What might be the cause of this perception that people have about me?. Whenever I tell someone that I don't have money they don't tend to believe. I'm just in my late 20s but people are treating me as if I'm in my 40s and I even look younger because I don't have beards. Please how can I stop the respect because I'm no longer comfortable with it, I've told people to stop referring to me as senior man but the name has stuck, my people has a saying that "oke afa na egbu nwa nkita" . I need all the help that I can get, I don't want my prospective helpers to over look me because it looks as if I'm made while I'm very far from that. |
I can't say its impossible but its unlikely, I have an igede friend and she told me its kinda an abomination to bring a tiv man home, her step sis brought a tiv man home and their father rejected everything the man came with including drinks, one of their kinsmen went behind and collected the drinks and developed a mysterious illness later. The drinks had to be returned before he got well. The step sis is still living with the tiv man but they don't count her as married. Even the idomas don't like marriage with the tivs too but recently they are dropping that notion and they now inter marry with the tivs. |

Yesterday was a day of double celebration for me, not only did I write my final papers it was also my birthday. It has been a long and trying journey but God has seen me through, I came to the university like a missionary with just my bags of cloths, slept in lecture halls and battled hunger for long periods. I wonder at times how I was able to pay my fees throughout my stay on campus but it all ended in praise. I just clocked 29, most of my course mates are much younger while majority of my age mates have gone beyond this level but I would rather see myself as a late bloomer rather than someone lagging behind. I ventured into school mainly because most things I put my hands on before didn't pan out the way I envisaged but the experience has been worthwhile coupled with the wonderful people I've met. The main struggle continues but I'm sure I will overcome. Thanks to the nairalander that sent me a token to celebrate my day. More importantly I need a job, my rent expires in a couple of weeks and I can't go back to my parents house. Its time to face my struggles squarely, I can work even in Afghanistan and any condition as long as I can earn to put food on my table while I sharpen my web development skills. Have a nice and productive day ahead.

alfajohn:Thanks a lot baba, I got your message |
LuQuLuQu:Something similar is happening to me now, my rent expires month end and I'm waiting for a married friend of mine that will graduate in a couple of weeks to vacate her room so that I can stay there since I don't have money for rent now. Wetin this lady dey do with my heart baa, its either her brother will be coming over to stay at the apartment or she's reconsidering staying a little longer till after her project defence.....its well shaa |
AutoChick4U:All I have I respect and love for my mom, she's not the domineering type even reason why I'm still surprised at her reaction. |
