teleportation. imagine being able to go wherever you want in the blink of an eye. either that or flight. |
in nigeria there are only three classifications G, PG and 18. and PG is a new one i think. as for the tv. the movies used to be on nightshift, it was late, from around 11-3 am. which young person would have been up at that time. |
hoyte is a center back, playing at left back. so i can't blame him. we need to be direct. however we are complete rubbish in the air, so going direct wouldn't have been effective. and can we learn how to take and use corners please. it's embarassing. jackal, my football knowledge is amazing, i know so much, i forgot that little tidbit ![]() |
the gardener's daughter is apparently quite good. in ghana, they used local actors to the voice overs. and the latin american soaps are still better than 90% of anything on nigerian tv. |
which were? |
damn you, jackal ![]() anyway, fabregas may have won the under-17 best player and top scorer but so did wilson oruma, and remember nii lamptey? at that age players are too young for it to really matter. as for the man u players you mentioned they are debatable. wayne rooney and ronaldo were good young players who were always gonna get better anyway. heinze, saha and van the man have all gone back a bit or stood still at the very least. heinze's been unlucky with injuries, saha is as good as he was at fulham and van the man isn't as deadly. park ji-sung was signed based on one match and is a mistake. ferdinand is no better or worse than when you signed him and mark my words if woodgate manages a full season this year will have to start looking over his shoulder re. england. |
to say that there are no poor churches or mosques is lazy and ill informed. there are churches where the roofs are leaking, they do night-vigil in darkness, and the offertory takes 5 minutes to count. and there are churches that could buy small countries. don't tar everything with the same brush |
well, lets see. in our CL final team we had lehmann- nothing eboue- signed from our feeder club Beveren which counts as an aspect of our youth development. its easier to send players like eboue there because belgium is more lenient re. work permits. toure- not sure campbell- nothing cole- from youth ljungberg- nothing pires- nothing fabregas- signed from barcelona juniors where everybody was too busy drooling over messi to pay attention to cesc. played 2 seasons in our youth side. if he was in spain, he most likely would not have played in the world cup this year, so i take it we had an impact on his development. gilberto- nothing hleb- nothing henry- was second fiddle to ikpeba at monaco, was rubbish at juve. wenger made him the player he is today. ill be the first to admit that this is tenuous at best. but i have a question, how many players at manchester united are better than when they first came? compare that to arsenal. |
i see some of the points you're making. i have no problem paying, but lets say its a first date and you don't know the person too well, don't you think it would be awkward if you footed the entire bill or is that just poor student mentality. on my previous first dates, we've both either split the bill or paid for whatever we ordered respectively. then again, i suppose pizza places and the like are not as classy as some of the places you sophisticated people frequent i always got the idea that if i paid for everything, it was like i was attempting to buy her or something. when you guys get close though, its up to you how you pay. he can pay or she can pay or you can split it. just don't make a thing out of it. |
if you look, i said that of all the fledgelings, beckham was the most essential to the team. and granted scholes must be one of the most underrated players ever, however i still maintain that ferguson struck lucky with that side. and there were other young players in the side that never made it with united like dion dublin and robbie savage (who actually was in the youth team with becks, giggs and scholes). however, the fact remains that if you look closely, while they couldn't have won it without them, fergie still had to buy the essential components. in the team that played bayern in 1999 only 4 players came through the youth team- becks, giggs, butt and nev g. granted scholes was suspended but if he had played, butt wouldn't. on the bench you had nev. p and brown. so in a team of 18 players, you had 6 who you developped. hmmm. all i am saying is that if ferguson was directly responsible for the magnificent harvest of the 90s, then surely he could replicate it. the fact that you guys are splashing the cash now says a lot. it was a huge slice of luck to have them all come out at the same time. just like van gaal was lucky that kluivert, davids, seedorf, the de boers and so on all came to the forefront at the same time. |
i agree with akinagirl. you should not trust too quickly. let them earn your trust little by little. there is nothing wrong with guarding your heart. |
it's not bad for a man to be emo, but naija guys overdo it. naija is the only country in the world where guys like westlife as much as girls. |
before lekki, or the park view estate place started to get built up, it would have been a good place to race. |
hey alarinjo, cheers for the suggestions. i'll deffo look into the two books you mentioned. or at the very least 'everything good will come' |
thank you Jesus, what happened? |
mubowa, where were you when i was banging yoruba in jss. |
i love the famished road. i introduced my cousin to it, and its now his fave book and this is a guy who used to hate reading. i was just suggesting that for our populist books, we should talk about daily life. like i would love to read a book about school. or the misadventures of someone in university. or a bunch of people who sell in a market and their interpersonal relationship. just simple things that maybe people who would by them would go for. i mean i was writing books like sidney sheldon when i was 14 so its not that hard. so how hard can it be to make a refreshing story about a slice of life back home. |
jackal- i think it is a misconception that fergie's fledglings were responsible for the success of man u in the nineties. this is complete and utter bollix. sure they were essential parts of the team but look closely. 1993- giggs comes to the forefront (as does lee sharpe, i believe). apart from that, it was the old team pretty much with bruce, pallister, irwin and paul parker i think, even bryan robson got a look in. the catalyst for winning the league though was cantona as well as orgasm-worthy performances by kanchelskis. 1994- cantona again. andy cole is signed from newcastle. i think neville g, scholes and butt made their debuts here. andy coles goals fire you to the title. 1995- cantona gives a crystal palace fan a hurricane kick a la ryu and ken and gets suspended for god knows how many months. man u win nothing. 1996- eric's back you win the double with him as captain. beckham comes to the fore with his wondergoal. the fledge 1997- eric's last season. you win the league again. the fledgelings along with solskjaer and cole help greatly. 1998- post eric and with roy keane injured. arsenal win the title. 3 of your first four titles had nothing to do with the players you mentioned. even your glory years had nothing to do with them as the principle stars. except maybe beckham's deadly crossing which was essential to your style of play. secondly, ferguson struck lucky with those youngsters. its not something that he can ever replicate, just like ajax can't win the european cup with a bunch of little boys again. (and oh by the way you want to talk about poaching, fergie poached giggs from man city). the fact that you have to cite players like richardson, who will soon be shipped to bolton or blackburn says a lot. ok so i know this didnt make sense but im tired and helping someone with algebra homework online. so forgive me. but god i love debates like this |
well i think its against the law to show love scenes in nigeria. the draconian decency board will get you. for instance, if you've watched dbn back in the day, they used to blank the screen when the actors and actresses got jiggy with it. which is pretty hypocritical when you can show in the same film, a guy being decapitated with a samurai sword. it would be even more hypocritical to allow it in nollywood films. besides lovemaking in nollywood films doesnt pass them showing their feet entwined. i agree though with previous posters, you can make anything look good with good angles and good shots. |
has anyone read the icarus girl by helen oyeyemi. i dislike her, but only because i am jealous that she has achieved so much despite being a few months younger than me seriously though props to her, it is a good book. but can our writers write books that do not feel like i am in someone's dream eg 26a by diana evans (who i believe is half nigerian) and the icarus girl. there is a surrealness about them that could turn off a casual reader. as for nollywood. the fact that something is popular does not make it great. after all would you call big brother the best program ever shown on tv, with bigger ratings (if they were to be measured) on MNET than CSI? |
i had a conversation with an ex, who is now a friend about love tonight. i came to this conclusion. how can you love someone you don't even know? i think about it, and i realise that the best relationship i ever had, i didn't love the person at first, but i grew to love them with time. it may not have been the passionate, sexy relationships i had in the past, but it was great because i knew and totally trusted this person. there were no games, no quarrels. just two people in tune with each other. i know this might come across as callous. and i admit i did not read all 4 pages so if i have offended anyone, i am truly sorry. and i am truly sorry for all those who have been hurt in relationships. a big hug to you all. (don't worry guys, your hugs are of the very manly variety). |
