Is anyone still waiting for funding? How do you manage during the waiting period?

Guys, I need help. I have been offered admission for Fall 2022 in the US and my I-20 has been sent to me. I have two different questions I'd like to ask. The first one is: I was awarded a GTA funding for the first 12months but my I-20 is showing funding for 9months while I was awarded a GTA funding for 12months. Is this a mistake from my school and will the 9months of funding be enough for documentation at the US embassy for an interview?

My second question is. I have completed my DS-160 application form and have paid all necessary fees but while booking an appointment today, 7th April 2022, I am seeing appointments dates that are well over my program start date which is 22nd August 2022. I am told that I need to request an expedited appointment. But on the instructions on the portal, u can't book an expedited appointment until u are within 60days to your school start date. For me, I will be within that 60days around the 22nd of June, 2022. What do you suggest I do guys? Should I go ahead and request for the expedited appointment or I should wait till that June while using the opportunity to check if any closer dates have been released. Pls, I need your suggestions and advice. Thank you.

Hi there! Congrats on your admission and funding.

To my knowledge, an academic session in USA is usually 9 months: from August to May (4.5 months for Fall and Spring semester each), while the Summer break (between June to early August) is 3 months.

Schools aren't usually in session during Summer, because technically summer is a break period, hence that 3 months is not included in the I-20.
That's why your I-20 shows 9 months.

For the second question, you can select a visa date now then towards June 22nd you can try requesting for an EA. That's my opinion/advice.

Babe abeg! Don't tell him you like him or that you have a crush on him.
That shit never ends well and it's not worth it because if he doesn't feel the same way about you, things will become awkward and that's how the friendship will end. Personally oo, it's a lose-lose situation.

If you think your feelings for him are too strong, then cut back on your closeness with him and reduce y'alls time together. It'll hurt at first, but you'll get over it. And don't even think for a second that you won't be able to get over him. That's the devil speaking, LOL!! You will get over him. You just have to be willing to try.

After all this advise, you can still go ahead and confess your feelings to him if you feel strongly about it, it's your choice. I hope it works out for you.

Please, when did you submit your application and when did you receive an admission decision from ETSU? It's taking forever to hear from the school.

Submitted October 26th 2021, got my admission decision on January 20th 2022.

I have an offer from Virginia Tech, I am being considered for GA funding and the Grad coord informed me GA funding (covers 50% of tuition with stipend) will be released in July and my program starts in August. COA is 50k.

Because of time, should I use my personal fund and my dad as a sponsor to get my i-20 and also for sevis fee and start looking for an appointment date or wait till the GA funding list is out before starting the visa processing?

Please advise.

Hey, I don't know if anyone has answered you yet, so I hope this helps.

I'm actually in the same shoe as you (not with Virginia Tech though, mine is ETSU). I'm waiting on them to make GA decisions which will take place between April to June.
Personally, I'm hopeful that I'll be given an offer atleast by the second week of May so I can start working on my I-20 and visa application, since my program starts in August.

Here's what you can do; you can start processing your I-20 with your personal funds and see if you can secure a visa date.
If during the process, the GA funding is given to you, you can always print out the offer letter and go with it to your visa appointment and try and explain to the V.O when you're asked about funding.
Just my two cents.

Its a win-win situation.

Before the Miui 13 update, on 3-4 occasions my own goes off on it's own, i press the power button and any of the volume keys before it comes back on. After the update, I haven't experienced the tripping off but it has hanged like 2 times, i still apply the same power and volume key solution.

Nawa o. I'm yet to update mine. Maybe I should do that and see if the problem will continue or stop.

I "uploaded". Not really "uploaded", If I remember correctly, I had to send it to them by email along with some other documentation. That is their procedure for international students. For domestic students, it is quite different. Also, have your original degree certificate handy, they will request for it during application.

In Nigeria, you should bring your expired passport when you come for the new one so that it will be stamped "canceled without prejudice"
and give it back to you and the diplomats know that.
Some countries do retrieve your old passport from you at renewal but not Nigeria.

I wasn't aware of this. I've always been asked to submit my old/expired passports after renewal. So what happens if I'm asked to submit an expired passport and I have an upcoming visa interview? Can I request to leave with the expired passport?

Yes it's a personal experience. I've renewed 2 passports so far, was asked to submit the first one after renewal back in 2017 and when I went to renew the second one last month, after the biometrics I was told that I'd have to submit the expired one when I come to pick up the new passport. So I'm genuinely surprised people actually go home with the expired passport after renewal.

Please avoid unnecessary issues that can destabilize you at the embassy. Your Passport, just like any official document, is the government's property. Once it's stolen, misplaced, or for whatever reason, you don't have it anymore please go and get a police report and or an affidavit and take it to the embassy on your interview day

These oyibo people do not trust any kind of excuse or explanation. Avoid being delayed or sent back. Go with an affidavit and you will be let off the hook.

If you have old or expired int'l passport, please go with it ooo. A lady was kept aside cos she did not come with her expired int'l passport. I don't know if she was lata attended to. I went with mine and I was asked to bring it out for physical examination.

Don't immigration officers ask you to submit your old passport after renewal?

when exactly do you intend to reject the second admission? I think I’ve read of cases where people had more than one i20s.

When/if I get a better offer than the first one. I've accepted an offer for now, but I still have decisions yet to be released, so incase I get a much better offer I'd like to accept it and reject the first one. It's the rejection process I'm not familiar with.

Hello. Personally I don't think your age matters. First things first is to evaluate your HND certificate with WES to get the BSc equivalent. Depending on your choice of course, you may need to write GRE or GMAT. Go online and search for schools in USA that offer your course, check out their requirements, then send a mail to them to confirm if there are funding opportunities and ask for clarification on any issue you may have. When you've gathered everything, send out your applications and wait for the decision.
