The nature of democracy entails that to guarantee fairness a multitude of individuals must come to a consensus, democracy promotes big government and it is something the Americans , British and Australians have complained about on multiple occasions

There are not many lean democracies in the world

The problem with Nigeria democracy ; it's inherently big but absolutely corrupt with representatives who are overwhelmingly preoccupied with expanding their personal coin chest through unethical means
The only expensive thing about democracies is the cost of running elections and nothing else. Democratic governments and republics can be tailored to be efficient and effective if need be.

No. I am very sure Nigeria never instilled any positive values in yours. Your parents did so themselves out of their conscience, humanity and immediate environment.

PoliticsYou Supported Buhari But You Hate Donald Trump. You Are A Hypocrite by Sweetguy25(op): 11:39pm On Nov 11, 2016
In 2015 you supported a military dictator whose coup in 1983 destabilized Nigeria and set the country back almost 20 years.
- A man who served under another globally renowned military dictator that almost destroyed Nigeria and defended his rule, even claimed he didn't steal.
- A well known bigot whose political ambitions has led to the loss of innocent lives which he has no remorse for.

Which is worse between voting for a Buhari and voting for a Trump?

Take a look at Botswana and other Sub Saharan African countries that never experienced military rule. They are more developed than Nigeria and other countries that experienced military rule today.
PoliticsRe: How Did The Corrupt Millitary govts Managed To Build These National Assets? by Sweetguy25: 2:04pm On Nov 03, 2016
This thread reeks of nothing but ignorance and it's a perfect example of the failures of military rule.
The military destroyed this country. Simple and short. No singular real developmental factor can be attributed to military rule in Nigeria..

First of all who fought for independence? Were they men with guns or bright young men without guns?

Nigeria was one of the most promising countries after independence until the military struck and the country has never remained the same, in fact the country is dead.

That civilian governments have been unable to get it right is the fault of the military. The military killed Nigeria and handed it over as a corpse to civilians. Education was dead, health was dead, economy was dead, infrastructure was dead, security was dead, accountability was dead.

Additional notes on Buhari's role
General Buhari has denied his involvement in the December 1983 coup however the example of the late Major Daniel Bamidele betrays Buhari's complicity in the December 1983 coup. Nigerian military historians Max Siollun and Nowa Omoigui note that when Major Bamidele got wind of the coup to oust Shagari, Bamidele reported the issue up the chain of command to his GOC 3rd Armored Division (Major General Buhari) who was allegedly in on the plot. To prevent Bamidele from leaking the plot, Buhari ordered the arrest and detention of Bamidele for 2 weeks. Bamidele wasn't released until the successful execution of the coup. Learning from this unfortunate experience, Bamidele didn't report any rumors of the so-called Vatsa coup (between 1985 and 1986) and was executed for it.[4][5] Bamidele's words to the Special Military Tribunal that tried and convicted him are:

"I heard of the 1983 coup planning, told my GOC General Buhari who detained me for two weeks in Lagos. Instead of a pat on the back, I received a stab. How then do you expect me to report this one? This trial marks the eclipse of my brilliant and unblemished career of 19 years. I fought in the civil war with the ability it pleased God to give me. It is unfortunate that I'm being convicted for something which I have had to stop on two occasions. This is not self adulation but a sincere summary of the qualities inherent in me. It is an irony of fate that the president of the tribunal who in 1964 felt that I was good enough to take training in the UK is now saddled with the duty of showing me the exit from the force and the world."[4]

Its a big shame that Ibb and Abacha's families receives a presidential pension, It's disgusting. Even Buhari was receiving a presidential pension from 1999 to 2015. Nobody voted Buhari, IBB and Abdulsalami to be presidents. These men stole power and destroyed the country but they are being rewarded.

Nigeria is a hopeless and useless country. Simple and short.
PoliticsRe: People That Destroyed Nigeria. $1 = N490. by Sweetguy25: 7:47pm On Oct 30, 2016
Leaders in the pic that destroyed Nigeria in ranking from worst to bad

1. Buhari - The worst of the group. Criminally Removed a civilian government and installed himself as head of state thereby setting the country back 20 years. Was a draconian dictator who used the military to punish civilians at will. Also a known hypocrite, he claims not to be corrupt but hangs around corrupt people and benefits immensely from corruption and injustice.

2. IBB - A man without conscience, he sold the conscience and soul of Nigeria to his friends and allies. He destroyed what was left of whatever Buhari failed to destroy. He still remains unapologetic for destroying the country.

3. Gowon - Executed a war that led to the loss of millions of innocent lives. A war that brought Nigeria to its knees which the country has never recovered from.

4. OBJ - A slimy chameleon. Unlike the others, he has equally good and bad sides. As a dictator he enacted decrees that are still setting the country back economically and socially (E.g Land Use). However he was responsible for resurrecting Nigeria's dead economy from 2003 to 2007.
5. Abdulsalami - Gave the country an unworkable constitution.
6. Shagari - Couldn't do much with the resources at his disposal
7. GEJ - Couldn't do much with the resources at his disposal
8. Shonekon - Wasn't really a president.

It is good leaders we lack.

Nigeria has gone beyond the stage where good leadership is needed.
Buhari is now president, 15 million people thought he was a good leader in 2015 but take a look at the country. Nothing has changed.
