PoliticsRe: Again, FG To Borrow $50bn From China by Sweetguy25: 7:02pm On Jun 27, 2016
Why borrow? Why not let these guys invest instead and let them manage their investment instead of the government doing what it knows it can't do properly, which is managing public assets.
Also, why not wait till the proper institutions and legislation is put in place so that these billion dollar investments wouldn't be put to risk.

I am also a firm believer that corruption is not Nigeria's problem but a symptom of a much bigger problem. But I differ with writer on what the core problems of Nigeria are.

In fact, the three reasons he gave can be summarized into two. Poverty and Ignorance.

Not wholly true. Its more of an effect from the fires that disrupted oil production in Alberta, Canada. Remember that canada produces more oil than Nigeria.

The war ended in 1970.

Despite military rule, we could go anywhere easily with or without visa -- it wasn't a biggie -- we were respected as tourists and students mostly. Things started falling totally apart at around '88 after IBB's greed/cluelessness.

We didn't queue for fuel, we had refineries exporting refined fuel!

Our educational system was better; our public schools were good -- I'd tell you my aunts and uncles who did just 'modern school' in the 50s and 60s (equivalent to form 3, or JSS3) have better command of the English language than most degree holders today -- more disciplined and use their rationale instinct better.

The fact that you would compare us to present Libya, buttresses my fact about real life experience vs online articles.

Shagari was a democratically elected president, but he looted the treasury, same goes for Jonathan.

This is not a democratic gov't vs military thing either, however, bottom line, Nigeria was good then.

Few Nigerians would opt to live in foreign countries then. We came back home from New Jersey.
Other family friends and relatives of ours relocated back from the UK, Germany, and e.t.c. after completing their studies and working for a little while.
Nigerians rarely go to non-English speaking countries then, now you have Nigerians being refused visas by countries like Vietnam, U.A.E, Qatar, Ukraine, and Cambodia -- I know right.
Nigerians didn't know about used 'Tokunbo' cars until the late 80s, we used to buy brand new cars, carton of milk; not sachet, carton of sugar; not 'didi' . . . power generators were for factories and companies -- most homes didn't have one -- they didn't need it . . . I can go on for forever . . .
How can a country that just lost over two million people in a civil war be good? Did the people in the eastern region feel that Nigeria was good?

Also, Nigerians weren't travelling to Vietnam, Cambodia and UAE because they were as undeveloped as Nigeria.
I mentioned Libya to buttress my point that dictatorships are not a good thing.
PoliticsRe: EFCC Begins Road Walk Against Corruption In Abuja by Sweetguy25:
cor‧rupt 1 / kərʌpt / adjective

1 using your power in a dishonest or illegal way in order to get an advantage for yourself OPP incorruptible :
Corrupt judges have taken millions of dollars in bribes.

2 immoral or dishonest :
a corrupt society
officials engaged in corrupt practices

3 something that is corrupt is not pure or has been damaged or partly ruined :
corrupt data

These are definitions of corruption according the Longman Dictionary of contemporary english. Nigeria fits perfectly in all definitions

1. There are so many corrupt people in Nigeria who use their power in a dishonest or illegal way to get an advantage for themselves. In politics, security, academia, religion and business.

2. Nigeria as a country is immoral or dishonest. High levels of insecurity, terrorism, greed, theft, etc are rampant in Nigeria.

3. Nigeria as a country is corrupt in the sense that it is damaged and ruined. Nigeria is a damaged and ruined country because of Nepotism and tribalism, failed governments, lack of infrastructure, decay in moral values etc.

That aside, I think and believe everything is going to be fine. You have to find a way to warm yourself into his mothers heart. Call her during special days, visit her, spend time with her and his sisters etc. Let them know you're a nice person. Learn to speak some igbo too, e.g Nne kedu ka imere, idi kwa mma? Lol

Don't throw away five years of love for nothing.

Finally, tell your man to man up.

Like I said, ask around from those who lived the era; not what is written online.
There was absolutely nothing to be proud of. Why didn't those years or periods of "pride" last? They were built on a faulty foundation. The governments that ruled were illegitimate, they stole power and threw the country into a war that left millions dead. Were the people in the eastern region proud that they lost millions of lives?
An illegitimate government is nothing to be proud of, no matter the benefits they bring. Take a look at libya.

Nigeria's pride in the 70s/80s was:

We had a good educational system (you can ask elderly ones around you about it . . . ask them also about how glorious their university days were; food, housing, and e.t.c)

You were almost guaranteed a job and a car upon graduation.

We didn't need visas to go to the UK and some other very good countries, and for those that we needed, it was 'cheap-easy' . . . and basically for tourism and education.

We weren't 'constituting nuisance' all over the world in this large percentage.

A stable currency.

We had working refineries, NIPOST, NITEL, NEPA (comparatively), Nigeria Airways . . .

'Long story short', ask educated elderly ones around you.
70s and 80s you say? When military dictators had already killled the country. There was nothing to be proud of.

Their import dependence ratio is not important either neither is their exchange rate.

2. Tanzania - 4 Billion dollars
3. Senegal - 2 Billion dollars
4. Djibouti - 393 million dollars
5. Rwanda - 1 Billion dollars
6. Kenya - 7 billion dollars
7. Mozambique - 2 Billion dollars
8 - Central African Republic - 300 million dollars
9- Sierra Leone - 601 million dollars
10 - Uganda - 3 Billion dollars

What exactly is Buhari's excuse? Why can't Buhari, Osinbajo and his economic team admit that they're incompetent and seek help?

PoliticsRe: See What Ugandans Think About Buhari On Facebook by Sweetguy25: 7:55pm On May 25, 2016
To the question - Has Buhari restored Nigeria's pride? Now this is a silly question. I don't know what Nigeria's national pride is and I honestly doubt if Nigeria has anything positive to be proud about. So, there is absolutely nothing to restore and even if there is, the present monkey leading the country is ensuring that it doesn't get restored.

Nigeria is actually the most ethnically diverse country in the world.
Nigeria is the only country in the world with an almost equal muslim and christian population.
Nigeria is the only country in the world with three majority ethnic nations.

Other countries that used to be like Nigeria have all divided. FacT#

We cannot continue like this. We need to divide, it is for the best.
The militancy, Boko haram, fulani herdsmen, etc. Are all problems that occur because Nigeria is one country.

The cost of our unification is too expensive. We just need to let go.
