[quote author=jmoore]No one is saying we shouldn't obey the law. Nigerians are not angry that her goods were seized. Nigerians are angry that he said Go and die A |
JulianBond007: That the poor widow whose wares hardly aggregate N5,000 has flouted the state law is not in doubt. In most cities, government forbids displaying wares on major roads, and this, to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Such obtains in Lagos, Benin, Ibadan and most urban cities.VERY insensitive and uncouth. But I guess having hundreds of foster kids is also insensitive! What I am saying is this, before you judge someone, look at his/her past deeds and compare to the present deed. Also consider the reason why the person acted that way. I repeat. Oshiomole badly needs anger management classes. |
emiye: I agree with the OP.chop knuckle |
Obiagelli: hi sweetlemon, it's been a while, I honestly didn't want to comment on this topic,Chop knuckle. People say she wasn't hawking. Then what else was she doing? Have you forgotten that street hawkers have a place where they keep the bulk of their goods in the corner of a street where they come to take more goods after selling the rest? Gosh! I don't know whether to call the reaction of people sentiments or just plain over-sabi. |
agabaI23: I am on your side.Exactly! in fact, Oshiomole would do well if he apologized for the statement ALONE, but the widow equally needs to be punished, then later shown mercy. |
jmoore: And they will let the President or Governor go scot-free? In USA? I doubt that. They might not let the president go scot-free, but I bet with you that they will give more attention to the person who dared to hawk in their streets! Why don't you just go and try it there, please make sure a Obama is passing by o, then come back here to gist us on your experience? |
veraponpo: People can be funny. Please help me tell them |
theoctopus: You open a thread just to get cheap attention from a widow's plight? You have no shame. Get out of oshiomole's azz.!You don't know the meaning of the word "sycophant" A sycophant is one who sees nothing wrong with the person he supports even while he praises him/her to the high heavens. Now where have I praised Oshiomole Did I not say he needs anger management classes and social etiquette? |
ROSSIKE: True... Nigeria is one of the few places where people think they can beg their way out of trouble after violating the law. I've seen this happen abroad a lot, where a Nigerian caught for one thing or another starts to beg the officer. It's embarrassing to watch. They simply do not listen to begging in these other countries. They even see it as a curiosity. Wondering why the hell is he begging? They don't understand it. If you're caught, you're caught. Just serve the punishment/pay the fine and go. Why beg?If only we had more objective people like you in this part of the world.......... |
ROSSIKE: Look.... the phrase, ''go and die'' used to be quite a common one in Naija a couple of decades ago or so, mostly used in banter among friends which turns a little ugly.....and was never really meant in the literal sense by the user. That's Oshiomole's old school self talking. We need to put things in perspective. People are acting as if he actually pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman!God bless people like you jare! Like I have been saying, let any of these people here go and try hawking on the streets of London and come back and tell us their story. |
jmoore: The exercise to remove hawkers from the streets. The Americans will probably be more interested in knowing why the hell the woman was hawking in their streets in the first place! Those people don't take these things lightly at all! From that video, I don't think she was just caught in the exercise. She was indeed hawking and we all know that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in any way saying Oshiomole is justified, I thought I have written countless times that he needs anger management classes? What I am saying is that you guys are being far too sentimental about this. Forgetting the wider sphere of this issue. That's all |
omiobo: Those words are harsh, nothing to say to justify osho's ugly response. Nevertheless,Osho needs to be forgiven.Exactly! Let's not forget also that had this been the U.S or U.K, the woman would have been in jail by now and later deported to wherever she came from! That's just the weird truth and I like to tell myself the truth! |
strangest: OP, abeg delete this your thread... Go and Die... Hope you see nothing wrong with itLOL! Anyway, I know people will castigate me here for this thread. Fortunately and unfortunately, I'm the kind of person who likes to make my own assessments of things before making my verdict. I look deeper and wider before I decide what's what. Cheers! |
jmoore: 1. Is the woman really a hawker? It seems she was caught in the exercise while waiting for a bus.Caught in exercise? What kind of exercise? Of course even my own respect for him went down a few notches after hearing "go and die" that is why I say he needs anger management classes. The devil gives gifts, but they are not free. Oshiomole gives freely when he gives. There's a difference dear. Can you honestly say that you have never done any thing that pricks your conscience when you remember it? How many rich people today have foster kids?? Your judgement of him is too harsh and too quick. |
Ok. Ok. I saw the video of how a governor brutally told a hapless, struggling, street hawker who happens to be a widow to "go and die" seizing all her goods from her in such a cold manner. I was like, "haba Oshiobaba, e neva reach to die nau!" Then I come to work this morning and everyone is discussing it, I log on to face book, twitter, and now Nairaland and everybody is discussing it. My BBM contacts are BCing the video and everyone is expressing their disgust and labeling him names from wicked to inhuman to insensitive. Now, let us remove the sentiments from our minds and delve deeper into this thing. 1. I saw someone's comment somewhere where he said that he will send the video to BBC to show them how our leaders treat the poor and I was like "really?" You honestly believe that David Cameron, The queen of England or even Obama would have given a hoot about the tears of a widow who broke a forbidden law? Have you ever been to oyibo land? Do you see hawkers on the streets?? Oh ok, why not advice the widow to and hawk on the streets of London nau, lets see if they will not arrest her! Why do you think oyibo land is like that? because their laws are blind! They don't give a hoot if you are rich, poor, blind, crippled, lost, sad, happy, or suicidal, YOU MUST FACE THE LAW! They can sha help assist you with social services AFTER you have faced the initial music. 2. Is this not the same Oshiomole who gave scholarship to a stowaway kid (another law breaker) some months back? And I hear he also has hundreds of "adopted" children (total strangers) whom he caters for from his own pocket. So how can that same man be called "wicked" or "inhuman"? Don't you think you are being too quick to judge him?? See, people say stuff at the height of their anger and we all know that Oshiobaba spits fire when he's at his peak (something he needs to work on because it's really not nice) But then again, will you label someone because of one bad thing he did even if he has done 100 good things? Thus here is my verdict. Oshiomole needs to enroll for anger management courses. He also needs to learn social graces and etiquette. As a public figure, he needs to watch and shut his trap more often and learn how to interact with diverse people. To me he still remains a man no nonsense man who is also passionate about what he believes in. A man who if you are opportune to encounter, could make you smile to the bank or wherever provided you are at your best behavior! People need to learn how to read between the lines, look DEEPER at all sides of an issue without sentiments before casting judgement on people for their actions. Cheers! |
WOW!!!!!! |
Iruolycious: And insinuating that an uncovered head "in d presense of God" shares God's glory is such a shame. Where did d Bible say that? Wasn't it God that gave her d glory in d frst place? Iruolycious: If u read more closely, u'll see that head covering 4 women was a CUSTOM in corinth. We have no such custom so y bother? Please help me tell them o! Africans (Nigerians) can be so shockingly ignorant at times. Bunch of busy bodies poking their noses into trival issues. Mtcheeew |
Promhize: I don't care where you're from, I don't care what you think, but its better to not that keyboard than display sincere ignorance.I think YOU need that lecture, and before you go for lessons, take a tall glass of chilled lemonade to cool yourself. Cheers! |
Promhize: Do you even know what its like to sign an agreement?FYI I am far from being a yoruba girl. VERY far. Cos I know that's what's running around your tribalistic skull which is what prevented you from reading and comprehending my first post. |
Promhize: The day anyone in your household lives in a million-dollar estate or the day one person in your entire lineage gets a personal lawyer, then, you can start commenting on issues such as thissmh FYI I am far from being a yoruba girl. VERY far. Cos I know that's what's running around your tribalistic skull. |
lol! Are you guys minding the people coming here to form "rights"? Don't you know 90% of active NLers are introverts? These people don't even go out at all except to school, work (for those who actually have jobs or businesses), or church/mosque. Some are even too addicted to the internet they attend church on NL Sunday mornings! So where do you expect them to get the liver from?? |
Indifferent: I beleive this story to an extent because i schooled in Enugu. Sullivan is a womaniser. That his wife used to be his daughter's classmate.hehehehehhehehe I see so many broke as.ses consoling themselves on this thread! May I add that I have seen MANY women who married "poor romantic dudes" end up in regrets. mtcheeew |
demelza: This wan pass P-square own!hehehehehehehehe |
I desperately want to believe that it is only NL Igbos that are as tribalistic as this. |
That's my girl! I love that girl soooo much she just may be my long lost kid sister my mum never made mention of! She keeps seeing dollar signs everwhere she goes..... |
Kai! I have NEVER seen a more derailed topic in allllllllll my e-life! can't remember when last I laughed this hard. OP pele o! |
I don't believe she wore that spaghetti top to see the governor. Did you see any picture of her with the governor together? I really don't know why people are so fast to jump to conclusions in this part of our world. |
wesley80: And Fani kayode the ethnic chauvinist and former minister of aviation who we only remember for possessing a mouth bigger than his head holds the moral candle because he didnt use the F word?In your own way of thinking, Just because Fani Kayode has a big mouth is enough excuse why Madam or any other serving public figure can use F words right? |
And what the hell does she mean by "You know they hate me because I'm an Igbo woman!" ![]() You see how these politicians use tribal and religion to sentiments to whip up support from naive people who will end up not getting a single benefit from them?? Nigeria!!!! When will we learn to shine our eyes oooooooo?? |
true2god: Any Igboman criticising dis woman must be stupid. Where were all this criticism wen Femi Fani Kayode was the aviation minister? Was he not more corrupt? Whats about the N17billion fraud at the aviation ministry under FFK, whats the EFCC's verdict? Lets stop fooling ourselves, a section of the country wants her out, just as they want GEJ out at all cost cos they are not serving their evil interest.Just because Fani kayode and 95% of politicians are corrupt does not make it right! why can't you just try and figure that out? |
After seeing the pic of the dancer, I am 100% in support of madam! Some girls ehn! gosh! How much is Inyanya even paying her to do this to herself sef? |
