Religion / Re: Five (5) Misconceptions About Jehovah's Witnesses. by Switup: 10:42pm On May 31, 2020
Narijoel:

Now I see, sha don't come back here later to tell us how you left your small church, formed yours or refused to attend church again because you probed and your pastor deviates from the Bible or disappoints you.

The concept of belonging to a global brotherhood like that of Jehovah's Witnesses that you can trust with your life and be convinced that these are the people who are doing God's will on earth, will be difficult for you grasp at this stage unless you get to associate with them someday. Wonder why it is so difficult for ex Jws to join another Church if they decide to leave? They rather stay at home and become whatever they choose to be because no place can compare to what they just lost, a very painful experience for them.
Jehovah's Witnesses has a rich history and a precious spiritual heritage not shared by others religious groups I know. Satan knows this and he will do whatever he can to tarnish the image of this "unique" group but he can''t. Look at this thread for example and see the attention got, compare it to other religious thread today. People are fascinated by this group and want to comment about them positively or otherwise as if their lives depends on doing that.

You keep asking me to probe JW for untruths, for what motive? so I can disassociate? yet no one can give a good alternative to Jehovah's Organization or can you? Unless you want to lie to yourself. Others keep trying and failing.Yet every passing day, I see convincing evidence on why I should continue to keep my JW identity.

No one will force you to become a JW, They are not begging for members. They are only eager to show you the way God approves and help you to cultivate that relationship with God, the way he wants it to be, anything negative comment you make or read here does not stop the organization in anyway because it is backed by the most powerful force in the universe, God's holy spirit.

if only they understood unfailing love. L'Amour fidélè.

litigator:
When I left home, studying with Jehovah witnesses helped my life tremendously. I am eternally grateful to sister Rose and her team who helped me study the Bible and also helped me with books.

I started a business which paid for my university degree because they opened my eyes to think and critically examine things in accordance with biblical injunctions.

Their teachings helped me through school and I never blocked any course or failed any major course except French and political science which I failed cos I refused to block. They were electives anyway, so there was no need to rewrite them as they were immaterial.

Soon, we were able to help each other gain a better understanding of the Bible as we prayed and shared lunch together. They often came every Sunday and my wife(girlfriend as she then was), will prepare rice and stew. We ate together, we were happy and prayed for a better tomorrow.

I wish I could have that opportunity all again to have sister Rose or any member of her team come to share the Bible with me. I miss them, but may God bless them wherever they are right now.

I take solace in the fact that I am able to access their awake and watchtowers, including other materials online or pick from their stand when ever I can.

I once visited Igeduma-Ehor, Edo State on a tour and enjoyed my visit.

As an Omnist, I learnt how to respect other people's beliefs. Take what you can and leave the rest, but never castigate them for their way of life.

I will forever be grateful to Jehovah witnesses for how God used them in making my life what it is today.

I don't have a monopoly of knowledge, I learn every day. But I am ever grateful to them and the Living Faith Family for how God used them in blessing my life.

Jehovah witnesses are good at what they do and if everyone could be as dedicated to duty as they are, the World will be a better place.

To every dedicated Jehovah witnesses out there, I say may God reward you richly for sharing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, regardless of the challenges that abound.

I am eternally grateful for your books, it thought me how to study and apply logical cum analytical reasoning, which has helped my legal practice as a litigator.

May Gehenna and her flames be far from your abode. Amen.

Thank you for your prayers. May Jehovah's blessing not depart from you and may Jehovah's will be done in your life.

God knows that I truly appreciate it when non-JW's see Jehovah's handiwork on their sides.
#Team JW till infinity.

*Aside* its been over a year since I commented on here. Feels cool though.
Family / Have A Stranger Ever Been So Nice To You?? Share Your Experience by Switup: 1:44pm On Apr 14, 2020
So earlier on, I saw a thread about betrayal and the stories in between.

To me, I'd say this is a counter thread. Yes I know there are many bad people, yes I know there are many betrayal stories, but I strongly believe that there are good stories that needs to be shared.

Funnily enough, in my life I have met total strangers who have done marvellous things in my life. I'll relate just two. One was from Nairaland here and the second was from my service year.

Nairaland story: so I'm a writer and for a long time I had always wished to own a blog, written my fiction stories and share my ideas to as much people as I could. Some how, I met a moniker and from a hello we got talking. I told him about my writing dream and long story short, been an internet savy dude, he created a WordPress blog with Google adsense and all(only bloggers would understand what it means to have a blog with Google adsense created for u) and handed the blog to me for free. This act of goodness was from a total stranger I met here on nl (though it's been years since we spoke, I still respect him till today)

NYSC story: due to some financial constraints my family was going through, while returning to my ppa I was assigned to, for which the journey was for six hours from Port Harcourt to Ondo state for my one year compulsory service, my parents gave me only 10,000 as in ten thousand naira only, of which 6,000 was the stipulated tfare.

I totally understood the family crisis at the time, so I took the money, cried for a whole hour, slept that night and braced myself for the unexpected journey the next day to a land where I knew not no one(pardon that speech... Lol).

On arrival at Ondo state, I report to my PPA, then went to the corpers Lodge and reunited with friends I had met from camp. They had all reported days earlier and had settled in. So far I was like the last person to report in my PPA as it was a struggle to get the 10,000 for tfare.

Most of the corpers had already gotten mattresses, pots, stoves and all essentials that were needed to survive and there I was with #4,000 left with me -four thousand naira on one hand and a long list of needs on the other hand.

Although most of my friends were excited to see me, I managed to sneak out of them, isolated myself in one of the rooms and did what could do best -cry my eyes out in silence. I can remember square how it was. I was so silent, only tears were running down my eyes but deep down, I was screaming and yelling at my creator.

Almost immediately after the shedding session, my phone rang. It was a call from a woman I had been introduced to by a friend I had met in camp. (This one is a story for another day).

I immediately put myself in order and answered the phone. As I said hello, long story short, she was screaming at me asking me questions like "corper why re you like this? Why did you return to Ondo and you cannot come and see me? Did I offend you the first day you met me?"

I had to apologise and immediately I head to her house. As I got there, she told me that if she didn't offend me and I wish to, I could come live in her furnished one bed room apartment for my one year service for free. The one bedroom apartment was well furnished, had a king size bed, wardrope, extremely furnished kitchen with a fridge, micro wave, pots, plates, spoons and all you can think of. The only thing she asked me to buy with my money was a cylinder.

I was amazed. An hour ago I was left with only 4,000 and no way to begin my NYSC life but there I was given all I asked for and more.

Fast forward one year later, after my service year, the stranger woman who is now my God mother thanked me for spending one whole year with her and I left Ondo state with 250,000 to begin my makeup business on returning to Port Harcourt. ( I was able to save that amount because God mother was always giving me food and she introduced me to jewelry business. I usually followed her on her Lagos trips, got jewelries and other items and was a business woman per say). Lol

In a nutshell, I met a stranger who is now a mother. Share yours

Health / Re: How Rivers State Lockdown Trapped Me In Port Harcourt (Pictures) by Switup: 9:24pm On Mar 31, 2020
chino11:
Rivers State lock down trapped me in Port Harcourt as I was about to return to base in Awka. Everywhere is locked down in Port Harcourt. Restaurants shut, fastfoods shut, hunger set in to 90 degrees.

I actually made moves, when I got to the boundary around Elele, stern looking combined team of army and police stationed were turning people back. Despite my contacts within the corridors of power in Rivers state, they never listened to me. I retreated back to PH, locked myself inside the hotel room, thinking of the next moves as my phone kept ringing, wifey was so worried about me.

I drove out of my hotel room where I have been trapped for almost a week now, I went round town, nothing to eat. Then I went to Market Square in GRA, see how people queued to enter the mall. It was like those experience one usually see back then at US embassy in Lagos.

In a nutshell, hunger could kill faster than Coronavirus. Let fastfoods, restaurants open for business.

Mods push this so that restaurants could open for some of us that can't cook. Thank you

This is like a war time..
if you are still in Port Harcourt, I'll be at GRA on Thursday. I work in a company that provides essential services. My office is around where you took these pictures. Kindly do me a personal chat or reply me with a mention if you deem fit. I could be of assistance

enka05:
I have first hand information about the said man.

1. They were four Italian expatriates that came in on 25th. They were all scheduled to go back yesterday. Well the other 3 left except this one that had symptoms already. He checked into a clinic on 26th and all tests came back negative until they decided to move him to Yaba for a coronavirus test.

Now here's the problem.

1. He had close contacts with people at the factory where he came to work.
2. He has close contacts at the airport plus the taxi driver that was all over him as oyibo concern.
3. He had access to domestic staff at the company quarters where he stayed.

Moral of this story.

Stock up your house with food.
Buy hand glove and mask when going out
Wash your hands as regular as possible
Coronavirus is here and it won't be funny at all.

The truth in this scenario scares me

Education / Top 10 Most Translated Books Of All Times: How Many Have You Read?? by Switup: 10:16pm On Aug 14, 2019
Top Ten Translated Books of All Times: How Many Have You Read?

If you were stopped on the sidewalk and as part of a survey, asked to guess the most translated books in history, what would your answer be?
See if you are correct – here are the top ten translated books of all time.

1. The Bible

There are many who would name the Bible as the most translated book of all time and technically they would be correct – according to some historians and experts. It’s a matter of which part of the Bible translation is being looked at though, as figures vary; at least one book of the Bible has been translated into an incredible 2,883 languages over time, the New Testament has been made available in 1,329 linguistic versions, and the whole of the Bible; New and Old Testament jointly has reached readers speaking 531 different languages.

2. Listen to God and Live Forever; Watch Tower Society

The topic of the most translated book in the world is one which is often up for question; whilst the Bible is the most translated in terms of at least one book, Listen to God and Live Forever has been translated – as a whole – into 583 languages, which is more than the combined New and Old Testament translated versions. An incredible achievement as it was only launched in 2011.

3. Universal Declaration of Human Rights; United Nations Commission on Human Rights

Not many would choose a document published by the United Nations as one of the most translated pieces of work of all time. When you think about it though, it makes sense; it’s a document which affects everyone in the world, which is why it’s been made available in 444 languages since first published in 1948.

4. What Does the Bible Really Teach?; Watch Tower Society

Only published in 2005, this book from the Jehovah’s Witnesses has been a worldwide phenomenon. It has reached almost all parts of the globe, is now available in 272 languages, and there are plans for this number to increase.

5. Pinocchio; Carlo Collodi

The most popular work of fiction in the world, in terms of the number of languages it has been translated into, the 1883 literary wonder has been read across the world in over 260 languages.

6. The Little Prince; Antoine de Saint Exupery

First published in French, The Little Prince is a surprise entry when compared to all the children’s classics available. It was first published in 1943 and was once voted the most important book in 20th century French literature.

7. The Watchtower – Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom

Published every two weeks since 1879, the Jehovah’s Witnesses have spread their faith around the world with this journal, which can be found in 243 languages.

8. Pilgrim’s Progress; John Bunyan

There are now 200 different language versions of this 1678 classic. Originally penned in English, it’s viewed as one of the most important pieces of Christian literature.

9. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland; Lewis Carroll

Hopping down a hole into a fantasy world where food and drink make you grow and shrink. The Lewis Carroll classic has amazed generations of children and can be found in 174 languages.

10. Andersen’s Fairy Tales; Hans Christian Andersen

Written over a period of almost 20 years, the beautifully crafted tales of Hans Andersen grace the bookshelves of children around the world. It’s now available in a total of 153 languages as well as the original version in Danish.

First I've been doing volunteer services to improve my CV.

During my NYSC service year, I saved roughly about #150,000 which I used to start up my micro wig making business.

I am also a certified MUA(Makeup Artist).

These two have helped me stay put and not go down the lawn of depression.

Oh. And one more. I've been reading a lot lately and watching loads'a movies
