PoliticsRe: 2012 Lagos Countdown: Biggest New Year's Eve Party In Africa by Symphony007: 3:58pm On Dec 27, 2012
babapupa: Hotels don't make money from huge patronage? Are you from dumb land.

Huge patronage means more revenue to create more jobs by hiring more people, huge patronage means they use more supplies and they have to go back to the market to restock used supplies, meaning they are recycling the money and injecting it into the local economy. When the hotels are busy, it means everybody is making money from the cab drivers to suppliers like food and drink suppliers, toiletries suppliers and the state.

It's a win win situation for everybody.

Don't be shallow minded, its economics101.
please read very well..before commenting. I never said hotel patronage does not help the economy...but i said if that is your criteria for measuring the flux of tourist then port harcourt and owerri are the biggest tourist destination because hotels in this city are full, though expensive all year round. Like i said. Give me real statistics not vague infinitesimalities.

kingingkinging: A pure display of ignorance.

On the contrary, it will generate income for the state.Have you passed Bar Beach in the recent time, LASG has allocated different spots for companies to trade with each spot being paid for, sponsorship will also bring income whereas LASG will only supply the ground and security.

Do you watch CNN and see cities like Macedonia,Dubai, etc countries like Kenya advertising? Do you know the cost of one shorts on our local stations let alone CNN? Have you asked yourself why all these are happening?

The work of the govt is to create enabling environment and attract investors by working on their psyche through what they see. the govt is to invest in the environment and security, going by economic models, the govt should not ordinarily dabble into the running of businesses but should allow private bodies to handle that instead govt should regulate through laws and order.
With stuffs like this and security being guaranteed, LASG is telling people that LAGOS is safe for running of businesses.
Thumbs up to gov Fash. the most intelligent gov in Nigeria.
thank you for the lecture on lagos being the great driver of the private sector in nigeria. As a lover of economic like myself you'll know that buisnesses need an enabling environment, where is it? Is it the bad roads, or the traffic? Or the uneducated work force? Massive insecurity? They need low taxes. Do u know lagos corporate tax rate? Small buisness need tax relief but i watched a documentary of the bbc that you say is "advertising lagos to the world" were an touts and their groups roam around lagos collecting "tax" for the "goverment"..and the bbc anchor was taken to their houses and shown their expensive cars and one even showed him his imported italian shoes. The anchor was visibly shocked that touts could collect and spend government taxes and questioned if what they were doing was legal and the governour was aware with a laugh they invited to anchor to accompany them the following weel to alausa for a courtesy visit on the governour. And truely they met the governour. After the meeting the touts left in their hummers to a secluded part of lagos where they met up with a musician called pasuma and together they partied and threw money at a crowd gathered around them..the bbc anchor was shocked, i was appalled and i'm sure your international investors will be dying to invest in eko!!! Eko oni baje o!

playboy19: Education is not just about attending and graduating from some community colleges, its mostly about personal development. I believe you would have done better if you had taken a few minute to research about the most congested traffics in the world. Los Angeles, California must be the second most terrible traffics in the world (if not the first) and people not only within the US but the world over, troops into LA daily... so just shut your gob if you don't know what you're talking about. Plus FYI, this is the festive period, traffic congestion is well expected in any bubbling city.
i pride myself an exceptional gentleman so i won't exchange insults but facts with you my good man...firstly i did'nt know los angeles, califonia is in africa cause i said lagos has the worse traffic in africa so you're geography teacher need questioning. Secondly los angeles has a high speed rail coming and a road network that makes the entire lagos look like 18th century engineering. These parties and the rest are rubbish and a waste of peoples money.

hisson3: Dude try & get facts, just visit some of d major hotels in lagos & see d number of foreigners trooping in & out, u will be shocked!
my facts are suffering from overightness. Is that even a word? Anyway....!! I don't need to go to hotels to know that all this frevolities do not add a penny to the economy. Rather it is a waste. If you feel your facts are so strong, lay them here with figures from the ministry of culture and tourism or the national oreintation agency and i'll conceed.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Will Turn To Somalia If Cpc Rule - Pdp by Symphony007: 12:54pm On Dec 27, 2012
In many ways pres. Jonathan was the last hope for pdp because he was greatly supported, i mean he swept lagos during the elections.. With the way nigerians now feel about jonathan, i wonder what rabbit pdp will pull out of their hat cause if jonathan wins in 2015..it's gonna be war!!
PoliticsRe: Sanusi To FG: Stop Accumulating Debts For Future Generation by Symphony007: 12:50pm On Dec 27, 2012
This man better think about the economy and how to keep it afloat rather than making stupid speeches in foreign countries. Debt in many ways drive economies. The largest economies hold the largest debt so far as you can fund the debt. So mr. Sanusi better think of how to stabilize our crashing naira and insane borrowing rate than making dull speeches.
PoliticsRe: Fashola. Must We Do Every Business?” Lagos Fire. by Symphony007: 12:42pm On Dec 27, 2012
In a country where jobs are rare why ban the importation of a commodity people use in getting income. Why is'nt it taxed and regulated to specific safe houses where it will be safe from fire. Everybody wins..the importers get their income and the government gets revenue. It's sureal!!

When one challenges the massive waste of money on parties and canivals they say it's for tourism so wonder how many people around the world or even nigeria will park their bags and say "gee..i'm heading to the most traffic congested city in africa for some senseless carnival".

Okay!! When babatunde fashola waste lagosians tax naira on frevolous parties, christmas lights and carnivals, he's a transformational leader but when pres. Jonathan does anything he's a clueless retardee....eko oni baje o!!

This has to be the funniest joke I've heard in a while. What a hilarious christmas joke. It's like a thief angry that another thief got to the loot first. Asiwaju bola Tinubu!!!
PoliticsRe: GEJ Administration Is A Disappointment - Tinubu by Symphony007: 12:50am On Dec 26, 2012
Gbawe: Abati is a discredited charlatan sensible folks have absolutely no regard for. What does Tinubu say here that many pragmatic social/political observers and critics don't agree with?
not when the observer is a thief and massive political godfather. Before his party can say they are a credible opposition to the pdp tinubu has to give up his godfather role. At least pdp as villanous at it seems has no godfathers again due to it's division.

PoliticsRe: President Jonathan To Visit Lagos Today (24/12/12) by Symphony007: 1:23pm On Dec 24, 2012
Gbawe: No. You should get your facts right before sycophantically defending one of the most callously wasteful President in the World who heads a Nation home to some of the most poverty-stricken worldwide. All of you holding brief for this wasteful President, a throwback to the dark days of wanton profligacy, simply have no shame. Jonathan's profligate mien is not at all consnonat with his status as President of a Nation were it is claimed that many live on less than a dollar a day. Some of you should speak the truth and shame the devil sometimes.

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3060952/David-Camerons-flight-saves-200k.html
if you want to discuss pres. Jonathan's policies we can do that another day let's discuss this issue at hand. As lovely and cost cutting as that sounds what it does'nt say is the commons blasting cameron's government for it's wastefull travel spending. That was a photo up for parliament. David cameron and his boys use the queen's flight more than the royal farmily. He chatters jet's to brussles when he and his staffs can ride for a few pounds on eurostar. Once again check your facts sir.

sucess001: some pple just say funny tins sha...even in Nigeria here...which other president had a penchant for closing down traffic the way Jonathan does? even Obasanjo wasnt like dis...so the nation should stop cos u wanna 'honour' ur president?
some of u dnt even know that thepresident's operations should not in any way stiffle the daily lives of the pple he governs...if having a president will mean so much inconvenience...no point having one den...the pple elect a leader to make their lives better and easier...not the other way around...

i shake my head vigorously for some f.ools here tryin to make it seem like we only bashing the jona i.diot... he actually is a du.mbass!
by mentioning obasanjo you just exastubated your ignorance of this issue. Obasanjo did this big time. I remember once in port harcourt when obasanjo was in town to do some commissioning. The state was so clogged up that some schools did'nt open. Many other occasions, him and the late mrs stella obasanjo. Pls get your facts right.

and the first foreign vist of john mahama was to nigeria pleding with jonathan to use his "influence" in the region to speed up the west african gas pipeline. So ghanian nigerian gas can keep powering their country. Ghastly!!

pres. Obama once grabbed a burger with bill clinton at lower manhattan and the heart of the global economy "lower manhattan" was shut to traffic.#bashjonathan.

if nigeria is a failed state because security put in place for their head of state and commander in chief then every western country starting with the u.s is a failed state.

k2039: Symptoms of a failed republic
a president's motorcade stopping traffic is the symptom of a failed republic? Then the u.s where airforce one coming to new york means the shut down of air traffic in the entire east coast and the presidents motorcade routh is shut to traffic about two hours before it passes is a long failed state. Pathetic.
PoliticsRe: President Jonathan To Visit Lagos Today (24/12/12) by Symphony007: 12:38pm On Dec 24, 2012
Gbawe: Guy I doff my hat for the part in bold above. This is what Nigerians, a people oppressed to the point of insanity and apathy, do not realise. The leaders of rich Nations flying with BA and Virgin. Our President , heading a Nation with the majority in poverty, maintains an expensive fleet of planes yet still demanding more while foolish and oppressed folks support him blindly because they have no appreciation of what obtains in saner climes.

David Cameron is unobtrusive in his travels, yet States shut down when GEJ visits for worthless reasons. No one is saying that GEJ began this tradition of largess and waste but we must demand Nigeria gains a President who can begin to move our nation away from these unsustainable acts of profligacy, insensitivity and 'big man' indolence not at all congruous with what the world is today. A bit like shunning an electric or solar powered car, in an energy challenged world, to insist on driving an 8 litre gas guzzler.
david cameron moves in a bulletproof custom made car and a motorcade of rang rovers that makes the entire motorcade of jonathan seem like tokumbo cars, westminister is only a few blocks from downing street but his motorcade led by police outriders block london traffic. Get your facts right before jumping on the bash jonathan wagon.
PoliticsRe: President Jonathan To Visit Lagos Today (24/12/12) by Symphony007: 12:34pm On Dec 24, 2012
Please some of your critisims are pathetic. It is standard practise that when world leader's motorcade move, roads are closed. It happens everywhere. Even newyork city as busy as it is comes to a halt when the president is in town. Direct your anger at the security agencies who put the blocks in place not the president who has other things to think about!! Always looking for an opportunity to bash jonathan!!!
