iadeka: Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to that nation...Nigeria is suffering d reproach of sin but they won't learn.....let a teenager date? Dats nonsence but what do u care for? Nonsence makes more sence in d world now...terry G is a provewhat do you think "dating" mean? I take it your mind is corrupt that's why you the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear "dating" is "sin". Do you know that a dull student dating an intelligent one can help the dull one? Do you know dating to some is a great encouragement. Amny stable marraige started from high school dating. Mitt romney, former u.s presidential candidate married his high school sweet hear ann. When he was 21 and she is 19. Today they have been married for over 3 decades with 5 boys, and 20 grandchildren. |
Jman06: GO AND READ YOUR BOOKS!allow those young girls to read their books. |
How shamefull of the old guys here telling teen boys to work hard to be like them before chasing under aged girls. It's such a twisted logic. Stopd dating teen girls. Teens should date each other and start gathering experience for the future. By the way. No girl my age has rejected me and will never reject me for any guy above 20. |
APGA also promised to support President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. The Anambra Governor-elect, Willie Obiano, has ascribed his victory in the just-concluded elections to the hard work of Gov. Peter Obi. His party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, also thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for the ‘credible’ election. Mr. Obiano said the commitment of the outgoing governor in bringing about development in the state assisted in ensuring his victory. The governor elect said this while reacting to his victory, which was announced by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka on Sunday. He said that Mr. Obi’s “good work actually led us to victory and I must commend him for his exemplary show of support”. The governor-elect also commended the people of the state, the Chairman of the party, Victor Umeh, other party stalwarts and the security agencies for their commitment to their duties during the conduct of the election. He also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring ‘credible polls’ in the state and assured him of his unflinching support. “I am assuring the people of Anambra that I will continue with the great strides of Obi in moving the state forward,” Obiano pledged. On his part, Mr. Umeh said: “We dedicate this victory to the evergreen memory of our great leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, whose dream and legacy have been sustained.” “The light that shines when he was alive is now shinning gloriously.’’ The chairman also commended President Jonathan for “keeping faith with democracy’’, saying “If it was not Jonathan, we could have had problems now.” “The victory did not come as a surprise, it came as a result of the superlative performances of Gov. Obi”, he added. Mr. Umeh, who assured the president of his party’s continued support to the federal government, also commended the INEC for “doing an excellent job’’. He, however, urged opponents in the contest to give peace a chance and consider the interest of the state before their personal interests. “I congratulate them for contesting; some of them worked hard but the people of the state have spoken.” “This is the time to show that they have the interest of the state at heart by congratulating the winner,’’ Mr. Umeh said. Also reacting, Gov. Obi expressed gratitude to President Jonathan for remaining committed to democracy, fair play, free and credible election in the state. “For us in APGA, we have every reason to show appreciation to President Jonathan because this is the second time after 2010 that he is ensuring credible polls.” “He is our presidential candidate and we will continue to give him support,” Mr. Obi said. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Mr. Obiano the winner of the contest after polling 180,178 votes while the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Tony Nwoye, had 97,700 votes to emerge second. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chris Ngige, with 95,963 votes, placed third while Ifeanyi Ubah of Labour Party scored 37,495 votes. The declaration of Mr. Obiano as winner of the polls followed the completion of the supplementary election in the state on Saturday in areas where election did not hold on November 16. The APC, Labour Party, and the candidate of the PDP, boycotted the supplementary election and demanded a total cancellation of the November 16 election, citing disenfranchisement of voters and late delivery of electoral materials, among others. The PDP headquarters, however, said the November 16 election was free and fair; which led to the APC accusing the ruling party of abandoning its candidate and working for APGA in the election. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/150658-anambra-apga-thanks-jonathan-obiano-ascribes-victory-governor-obis-performance.html |
Ex-Niger-Delta militant, Mujahid Asaro-Dokubo, who was arrested last week in Benin Republic, was released after the tiny West African country came “under pressure” from President Goodluck Jonathan, the Benin Foreign Affairs ministry have confirmed. Spokesperson of the ministry, Benjamin Agon, told Reuters “It was under pressure from the Nigerian head of state that the authorities freed the rebel chief on Friday at around midday.” Until the Dokubo-Asari case, Mr. Jonathan was not known to personally intervene whenever Nigerians are incarcerated abroad. Mr. Dokubo-Asari is a staunch loyalist of the President, and has repeatedly threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable if Mr. Jonathan is not re-elected in 2015. However, contrary to Mr. Dokubo-Asari claim that he was arrested after being suspected of being a member of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, Mr Agon suggested that Mr. Dokubo-Asari’s arrest was related to his business interest in the country. Another diplomat told Reuters that Mr. Dokubo-Asari’ militant group, Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force is being investigated for aiding criminality in the Niger Delta. Mr. Dokubo-Asari has various business interests in Benin which he recently adopted home. In an interview with Vanguard newspaper, Mr. Dokubo-Asari, who was released after two days in detention, said he was arrested for being a member of Boko Haram. He also confirmed that Mr Jonathan intervened to get him released. “Crisis is normal; it can also happen here in Nigeria, it can happen anywhere in the world. The people and government of Republic of Benin have no problem with me. But if people alleged that somebody is a leader of Boko Haram, the government of that country will investigate the person, he said. “It is not just only President Jonathan that intervened, Nigerians generally intervened. The number of people that came into Cotonou the day I was taken in, and the following day, were over one thousand. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/150655-jonathan-pressured-benin-republic-release-dokubo-asari.html |
A presidential election can be rigged because it's nationwide and cuts across states. A gubernatorial election can be rigged because it's state wide and caught across LGA's. But how cannot rig an election within a constituence or ward in a community. It is too small a gathering for people to loose interest. If people vote according to credibility and make sure they monitor voting, results, the voters register are people you should know, they are your neighbours and folks you share a drink with so if and no stranger will dare come to your district to stuff ballots. With community organisation. You can lock down your constituency and make does who seek to represent you meet you on a one one one basis and appeal for your vote. And the day he ignores you, he is a goner. That is democracy and you can make it work in your area. |
I have lived in countries where candidates for state assemblies, councillorships, congress, etc go house to house knocking on doors, shaking hands and soliciting your vote to get them elected. Once elected they visit home practically every weekend. Hold town hall meetings. They know their constituence by name. They know the farmilies and their problems. Constituence visit their reps, Write letters, make calls, demanding those they elected fight for things they want. And if that elected official drifts away from his constituence. If they just forgwt your name or see that you don't care about them, your political career is over. |
ifyalways: Who really cares?Nothing shocking there jare.ma'am, it does'nt have to be like that. It is this i don't care attitude by nigerians that make them get away with all the ill they perpetuate. These people claim to represent you. They are given constituency allowance meant for you and you don't get a kobo. Yet you vote for them. Nobody cares so they have the freewill to cheat you. No nigeria writes letters to them, group of people from constituencies do not visit their representatives in abuja to demand actions of accountability. Nigerians do not know the divisions of government and who should be held accountable for what. Surely, political ignorance by nigerians go a long way to keep us the way we are. We are all passionate about the presidency. Jonathan must go, jonathan is our man, buhari can never be president, etc. Is that where government starts and stops? What about those closer to you? These are real problems. |
I really appreciate your comments. Keep them coming...i'm really beginning to belive these statistic totally and it's scary. If people don't know their representatives on every level, how were they elected? Who elected them? |
90% OF NIGERIANS DO NOT KNOW THEIR SENATOR, FEDERAL CONSTITUENCE AND REP, STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBER AND COUNCILLOR. A survey carried out by my school has come up with some shocking statistic. The most shocking is virtually every nigerian do not know their federal and local constituency, they do not know their senators, representatives in the federal house, their representatives at the state house of assembly and the councillors representing their ward in the local government councils. This shocking statistic is among working adults. The statistics for teens and students is more alarming. If people do not know their representives, how did they vote for them? If virtually no nigeria has written a letter to the reps in abuja or attended in town hall meeting with them, does'nt that say something pathetic about political participation in this country? Is'nt the sky high political ignorance one of the reasons we corruption thrives and our representatives are not accountable to us? This is a national disgrace as the next generation are growing up politically ignorant as the current one. Looking back i still don't belive these statistic so i want to try it out here. Amongs you nairalanders who come to politics section and argue politics to the last drop of your blood. Answer the following questions. 1.What is your federal constituency? 2.Who is your representative in the federal house of representative? 3.Who is your senator? 4.what's your state constituency? 5.who is your representative in the state house of assembly? 6.what is your ward? 7.who is your councillor? |
solomon111: America, what a useless country.no such thing as secretary of aviation. The u.s is'nt as wastefull and narrow minded like us to have a ministry for every tom, dick and harry. Aviation falls under the department of transport with the secretary of transport. |
I don't normally comment of artiste but please. Is it true this lady is 41 years old? |
Mr asari, be carefull how you speak of your brother, Jonathan. Less you will be branded a traitor and given the ameachi treatment. Apparently what ameachi said and was almost killed for saying is now spreading around the niger deltan and if that narrative take hold, it will be the last nail in pres. Jonathan's political career's coffin, and 2015 will be the funeral. |
I wanna ask a question, if the PDP consideres APGA such a loyal lapdog or extention of their party, to the extent they defend this election with all the obvious flaws. Then did they bother to produce a candidate for the governorship? Could'nt they have just endorsed APGA. All their actions is just making their flagberer look s tupid and isolated. |
This is just utterly idiotic. With all the evidence, this election will be dissolved in by any court other party take it to...this guy should'nt expect to have a smooth governorship. Just start putting together your legal defence fund. |
The Bayelsa State Government has said that it would train 250 youth from the state on automobile technology, cinematography, photography and design. Governor Seriake Dickson said this in Yenagoa at a reception for 200 Bayelsa graduands of a six- month agricultural training programme at the Songhai Integrated System, Cotonou, Benin Republic. The proposed training programme, which would also include ICT skills, would be held at the Amachree Royal Academy, Benin Republic owned by ex-militant leader, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari. Mr. Dokubo-Asari, who was recently detained in Benin Republic, has other thriving businesses in Benin apart from the academy. A staunch supporter of President Goodluck Jonathan, the former armed militia leader is an indigene of neighbouring Rivers State. At the event, which also doubled as a send-off orientation for the 250 youth going on the vocational training, Mr. Dickson said his administration was committed to youth empowerment. Represented by his deputy, John Jonah, Mr. Dickson said that training the youth in agriculture would help realise his administration’s vision of ensuring food security for the state. He said that the youth, upon completion of their training, would be engaged in aqua-culture and cassava production. “We have said severally that agriculture is the main employer of labour. We have the Burma farm and similar ones that we are trying to resuscitate”, Mr. Dickson said. According to him, only a private sector – driven economy can provide enough employment opportunities for the populace. He said that it behoves on government to create the enabling environment for wealth creation and creation of job opportunities. Addressing the 250 youths being sent-off, the governor charged them to take their training serious. The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Agriculture, Thomas Commander, congratulated the graduates for the successful completion of the programme in spite of some challenges. He expressed the state government’s desire to engage some of the graduands, while those who intend to be self-reliant, would be encouraged and supported by the government. Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Parkinson MacManuel, said the 250 trainees would depart for Benin Republic on December 1. One of the beneficiaries, Neinein Ekpebu, thanked the state government for finding them worthy for the training programme. He said the training would make them productive and contribute more to the larger society. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/150616-bayelsa-train-250-youth-asari-dokubos-benin-academy-governor.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=bayelsa-train-250-youth-asari-dokubos-benin-academy-governor

Don't step down. Then you'll run your LGA with the change your tugs hussle from bus drivers and road side traders as the state government will not give you a penny. Idiot!!! |
Understanding the context of xenophobic sentiment in the grand intersection of race and class in a South Africa mired by a complex social and economic history is difficult. As the largest economy on the continent, South Africa has attracted foreign Africans from as far afield as Nigeria, Ethiopia, the DR Congo and as close as neighbouring Botswana. They come as political refugees or economic migrants, with one goal: a better life. Following the end of apartheid in 1994, thousands of Chinese and South Asian foreign nationals have been living and conducting business across the country. Instead of South Africans thriving on its much-vaunted multicultural identity, foreigners have been painted in the popular imagination as criminals, job snatchers, and parasites arriving in throngs to eat at an economy battling to feed its own people. New researchreleased last month from the Southern African Migration Programme (SAMP) found that more than 50 percent of South Africans believed foreigners constituted a majority of the country's population. In reality, foreign nationals amount to less than five percent, or 2.2 million people out of a population of around 50 million. The SAMP study, investigating the incidence of xenophobia in South Africa after the horrific attacks of 2008 which killed more than 60 people, also debunks the popular notion that xenophobia was a disease of the poor. That these attacks are taking place in already rough neighborhoods is worth remembering, Loren Landau, director of the African Centre of Migration and Society (ACMS) in Johannesburg, said. The study found that xenophobia is firmly embedded across all economic and social strata of South African society but with incidents of violence are more likely in impoverished areas where a riot can sometimes be the only way to the draw government attention. |
More than 150 Somali-owned shops have been looted in four days of xenophobic violence in South Africa's coastal city of Port Elizabeth, police said Wednesday. "Since Sunday when all the trouble started, 150 shops have been looted and it is spreading to other townships. The situation is still tense," police spokeswoman colonel Sibongile Soci told AFP. At least 70 suspects have been arrested in connection with the pillaging and will appear in court this week, she said. The ransacking of the small shops that sell mainly groceries and popularly know as spazas, was sparked by the killing of a 19-year-old South African boy by a Somali shop owner on Sunday. It occurred in New Brighton township following an argument over cellphone airtime. Since then, attacks on the shops spiralled and spread to other townships as locals claim they were avenging the killing. Amid widespread poverty and unemployment, frustration in South Africa's run-down neighbourhoods often boils over into anti-immigrant violence. An explosion of deadly attacks in 2008 killed more than 60 people and displaced thousands into refugee-style camps. The African Centre for Migration and Society, a think tank, says 140 foreigners were killed and 250 seriously injured in the country last year. South Africa plays host to millions of asylum seekers and refugees from across the continent. "We ran away from our country because of the war and now we are being treated as animals here by people we thought were our brothers," Faisal Ahmed, a Somali shop owner told AFP. "We expect to be treated as fellow human beings." Truckloads of anti-riot officers patrolled the streets of the townships on Wednesday. The Somali national who allegedly killed the South African, appeared in court Monday but was released due to lack of evidence. Eastern Cape Somali Association chairman Suleiman Hussein claimed some of his compatriots were also attacked with machetes and sticks, but police could not confirm that allegation. Berhanu Taffan, another shop owner, spoke of widespread looting. "Groups of people, some even older people who should stop their children from doing this, just come into our shops and start helping themselves to our stocks," said Taffan. Asked why he was looting, a young man tersely replied to an AFP reporter: "We are hungry, that is why". Port Elizabeth mayor Ben Fihla has described the attacks as "shameful", "acts of criminality and should not be tolerated". A Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University social commentator Theodore Petrus said South Africans needed to correct the misconception that foreigners are here to take their jobs and women. "Incorrect assumptions and perceptions are often exploited by those who would seek to use them to achieve a particular objective," he said

How do you purnish someone who has already left you? This is just pathetic. What the PDP should be doing now is to solidify it's base in this reben states. Especially, rivers. Because if they think this defection was bad for them, those rebel states electing another APC governor come 2015 will be catastrophic for them. |
Barack obama has deported more illegal immigrants than any president in modern american history. 5 years into his presidency he is not padoned up to 100 convicted criminals but 3 years into his presidency ronald regan had padoned over 300. Yet they still say obama is a socialist and lawless liberal bent of destroying america. And people say such critisim has no racial undertone. |
This FG threat will be a catastrophy. That's what you get when you have an area boy like ezenwor wike advising the president as minister for education. Their are 60,000 empty spots in federal universities which the FG has not been able to fill and now they want to sack the entire rouster, where will they find replacements? Profs, doctors, emeritus luminaries? Goodluck mr president!! |
aguiyi: why not, have we not started thanksgiving, baby shower, Halloween, carnival, etcdon't mind them.....get your red white and blue ready for the fourth of july. ![]() ![]() |
callen odinks: Hope iPhone 5S price drops.that's the best deal i've seen so far. It's $150 now. |
No member of the national assembly loyal to ameachi will join this reconcilation. Because their problem is not with the national PDP. It's with the state PDP which wike has taken over. If they don't stick with ameachi and destroy the PDP in rivers state, post 2015, they'll have no political future. |
It's rather amusing how nigerian leaders whip up the press and expect praise for doing their job. All this fuss for just presenting police with cars? Is'nt that your job? Even the party chairman is there. How pathetic. |
