Thanks
Your FRSC drivers license is ALL you need.

There's no need or such thing as an international driver's license. The former has become unnecessary since FRSC upgraded Nigerian driving license over a decade ago..

Pls I like to ask, I was told I need to get my driver's license here ready before coming to Maryland, Bowie to be precise as there is no transport system over there unlike Newyork. Pls is this real cos I'm coming over very soon.
Please learn how to drive in Nigeria go to proper driving school and get your driving license.
You can use your FRSC driving license to drive in Maryland. It's valid for 1 yr I think before you have to get the states driving license.
You can search for DMV Maryland for regulations about using foreign drivers license in the state.

Also important for you to download the book on signs etc as this is different from signs in Nigeria.

Please experienced elders come and offer your 2cent for this situation.

I recently landed in Canada as a PR and still hoping for a job.

Before I landed, I engaged my girlfriend and we did introduction. Marriage was postponed till later to ensure that my marital status didn't change since I already had Copr and visa and didn't think having my application reopened before landing was the best option at that stage.

In the last one week, she has been on my neck to start processing our reunion. I explained to her that while we want this reunion now, we can't do anything till situation normalizes. She is suggesting that she applies for a tourist visa. I told her that while tourist visa is good it may not be the best option for our current situation. Here is the situation, we don't have the accumulated finances or income flow or assets to support a tourist visa application at the moment.

I suggested, that she calms down till income starts coming, so that we can arrange my trip to Nigeria for our marriage. Afterwards we can leverage one policy that IRCC rolled in around May 2023 and submit a PR application then with the AOR apply for spousal visit Visa and SOWP all at once. She considers my suggestion deceptive that I don't want her to join me, hence I am not approving of her tourist visa plan.

From her stance and what she heard from one of her colleagues she thinks the financial situation which affects the potential POF she may need to apply for her tourist visa can be arranged by agents. All my efforts to make her understand that she doesn't have a solid case with the tourist visa plan and that I don't trust Nigeria agents and can't allow her jeopardize our future reunion with unreliable documents showing numbers.

According to what she heard from a colleague too she suggested to go ahead and acquire our certificate but I told her that it will be marriage by proxy. Especially if I don't leave Canada at the time, it will be issued and Canada doesn't recognise proxy marriages. Hence, if we apply anything with that certificate it may backfire.

The constant pressure to do something about our reunion is not helping issues at all. Please if you have any suggestion that may help us, we are willing to listen.
Ask her what she's afraid of. It's fear that driving her . .

So address each fear with a realistic timeline that she can hold on too.

If the relationship is one you believe would be a good foundation for a marriage then work with her.
If its finances ypu want to build then both of you set time-line for building the POF you need to file for her.
I'd you say okay both of us save for 6 abi 9 months then start the process. Both of you raise money in that period dor the same goal. Work as a team. You save in CAD she raise in naira and you can keep each accountable till that time.

As you're applying for jobs involve her, male she sef no as e be. Better learn teamwork at a distance because you will need it.
Take leadership

You can only use this for 2 months for driving in Canada, thereafter you send it to Nigeria embassy here in Ottawa with 100cad draft for authentication b4 you can take G1 test grin
Which is why I aaid it's the country that determines how long you can usr aa foreignr drivers license .

Other countries you use the same drivers license for 1 yr , two years whilst in others tpu can't use it unless you the theory test/ road sign test

It is the medical interview that is giving me great concern. My husband and I were born in Nigeria and we have no vaccination evidence. Would the interview letter say specifically which vaccinations we need to take? What about the ones from childhood? Would we need to take these again?

Also does anyone remember how they got evidence to show for the vaccinations given in Nigeria? Any information about this would be helpful to me guys and thank you.

Please send the link to the nvc stage on here in case anyone else needs it. Ese pupo
https://www.nairaland.com/3979737/nvc-processing-stage-u-family/178

If you don't have your vaccinations from Nigeria it doesn't matter.
US already has a list of the vaccinations you will take. You'll know at the hospital they tell you to go to.
They may also take ,x-rays, urine and blood tests

So nothing to be anxious about. You don't need anything just appear for medicals . Information on where to go for medicals will be emailed to you. Print and carry it to medicals place. You might need to tale your passport with you if I remember well

No such thing as an international drivers license

Each country has its own regulations on which foreign drivers license us accepted in the country for how long.

FRSC issued by Nigeria is fine

Thank you very much,

I appreciate your response Olasubomy thank you.

Oh now that you explained it to me, I now understand that the 90day rule is for visitors. Before changing of status.

I didnt use a visa entering usa though, but i am thinking of getting one, lets say for study, so I am asking if that interview will be easier for someone that has visited usa before. lol

I would like to take a IT course in English. My q is, if I can get a 8-1yr course I can try visa you know for study/go for a training course.

I need a school that offers that kinda course I have searched search they only offer online IT courses. I want the Onsite lol
Then go to the thread on study visa

Thank you but please your response is kind of ambiguous for me because the confusion is circled around choosing just B2 visa only or B1/B2 on CGI portal
Regardless of what you pick your visa will still be B1/B2 . You can then use the visa for both categories as ypu wish

Hello Everyone,

I am a dependant in the UK, I have no travel history other than UK and Nigeria. I plan to apply for a US B2 visa for tourists. I have a job that pays £2000 pounds monthly. My husband is a PHD student. May I know if I stand a chance of getting approved. And how long does it take to get appointment date in London
Go to the living in the uk thread and ask there.

Applying in the uk is very different from applying in Nigeria

This is super super helpful. Thank you very much.

Final question please. How do I find out more about the certified group to join for dates? Is there anyone I can speak to?

Thank you.
There's no certified group by any admin on nairaland

Regular people start WhatsApp groups and invite others searching fo early r dates. People commit to search at specific hours of the day and share that's all. Effective date search groups are just very strict on people actually doing the work of searching.
You can start your own group and do the same or just commit time to searching for early dates if the date you initially see does not suit you.

Thank you so much for your response. I’ve done my accreditations and just waiting to do the Toefl Ibt which needs to be done in- house and then a couple of other professional exams before I can practice in the US. I’ve also befriended a lady I met on Facebook forum currently living in Texas as well and has done some of the exams I’m yet to do……hoping she’ll show me around and how to navigate the job market.

My next question please for anyone in the house.
1. Will the interview letter highlight the specific vaccinations that my husband and I will need?

2. Does anyone remember what questions were asked by the visa officer? This is so we can start practicing. I’m quite nervous cos I’ve never had a visa interview before

Thanks in advance
Interview for what ?

Your green card? That is your permanent residence card?
If your based outside rhe US then you'd wait for the embassy jn your country to send you interview date. Typically you would get a notice to do medicals before rhat date. The hospital or clinic will tell you what you need to do. I'f you already have vaccinations you've done take evidence to the clinic.
Everyone will do medicals.

For the visa interview they will just check docs submitted to NVC as the basis for the green card. Take copies with you. They may ask questions about relationship between petitioner.

There is nothing to the interview

There is a thread about NVC stage on nairaland

Don't overthink this, you're moving to a new country...so give yourself time to adjust.

You never even collect green card sef lol

Hi everyone,

My husband and 2 children currently UK citizens but we’re moving to Houston Texas to start afresh. Please does anyone currently live in Texas and can show us the ropes and help us with this massive transition. My husband is a Business Analyst and I’m a pharmacist. How easy would it be for us to secure jobs there? Please bear in mind we’ll be coming in with green cards? Pls I’d really appreciate any advise that’ll help in terms of jobs, childcare, good church community preferably RCCG and of cos where we can get some good and cheap Naija food. Thanks in advance
You'll be fine.
You'll drive a lot in Houston so . Houses are huge lots of space. African stores are plenty.
Weather can get really really hot..like Maiduguri hot in the Summer.

Pace yourself for work for work. Try agencies first to get some contract work for US experience then full time roles would be easier

Check if you need any additional certifications to work as a pharmacist.
Lots of work for pharmacists in hospitals, at pharmacies or even in Big Pharma which is not bad if you are sales inclined.
You can look for ppl with you degree on LinkedIn who are working in the US.

The interview process in this part of the world is something else entirely. What I will advise people especially people going as students is to start the job search from day one. Try and make the mistakes all early and get used to the process. I am surprised that a few people wait until their program ends to start looking for work.
Can you work full time as a student even if remote.

You may have answered this already but how did you learn Spanish.

Hi Guys
Good morning

Please still on this visiting visa stuff, I'm meant to know that it has a validity of 5 years with multiple entries of 6 months each.

1) So if I go for a 1 week conference and stay for maybe 5 months then return back to Nigeria. I hope I'm still safe and it's not a red flag for next time

2) Since it has multiple entries, 6 months each for a period of 5 years, does it mean next time I want to use the visa I don't need to go to the embassy for a visa approval again. I just need to book my flight and go?

Please I need honest answers from people that know well about it
1. Six months is the maximum you can stay on a visit visa without being out of status on that visa.

I'll write the rest in bold.
CBP custom border patrol is the final determinant of ENTRY into the US. They have the right to interview, question you, and DEPORT you and even reduce that six months to one week. Lastly they can CANCEL the visa

So if you enter US saying I'll stay 1 week and you stay 5 months and leave.

When you return to the US, CBP will ask you about your previous stay.

2. You don't have to return to the embassy until 5yrs expires.
But as I said in 1 - border patrol also have jurisdiction over visas issued from the consulate so be guided when you take you options.

They don't stamp 6 months at the US airports.. however you can check it online.i94

Haa egbon mi thanks for the reply, they are still looking into pushing for other opportunities if possible, maybe another offer could show up, reason why.

Coupled with flight ticket for whole family ain’t cheap for the short term planning, they considering wife stays and put to bed before leaving as well.

But that aside, the main reason is if they can still get an offer before the date
July is 2months away.
How do they feed? Then they'll be out of status
When baby is born they cant leave either for another one month at least all things going well cos pregnancy no always dey straight.

Let only wife go back and hopefully they have support back in Nigeria.
He can wait it out finding a job before the date.

Hi all,

I’ve got a family friend whose visa has be curtailed to leave Uk by1st week of June, the issue is that the wife is pregnant with EDD of July.

Could you please advice on how to navigate this, obviously airline might not allow entry due to closeness of the EDD date.

EDD - expected date of delivery
The wife is in the UK?
Does his restriction affect his wife?

If so, he might not want to hear this but he and wife can leave now aka in a week. If it's to Nigeria it's direct flight he would use.
Airline will tell what their preg restrictions are.

Cos the alternative is for him to leave her and return, and that is some serious bills lining up for them both.
There's a saying that if there's no way forward you can always go back.

I'm assuming the curtailing of his visa can not be appealed.

Do you mean almost impossible to get funding? Cos even with my non- cs background I still got 3 admissions
The school you do have funding for you have almost 38k deficit.
How do you pay for that? No hustle will cover those fees, even indigent students take loans

Check other courses as people have suggested. Look into the classes you can take that relate to what you want to learn in computer science . Push for funding opportunities.

Don't get hung up about the title of the course the focus on what you can learn.

By the way there are plenty of opportunities for those with Pet Engrg as a foundation and focus on analytics and all thing you are currently interested in. That you never worked as pet Engrg doesn't matter.

Thank you for your response although your advise is unsolicited.

To clarify, my inquiry was about securing a visa, rather than on gaining admission. Additionally, the client is considering studying in the UK and has sufficient funds to cover their entire stay without the necessity of employment.
gaining admission and securing a visa however are not mutually exclusive, they are tied together. His advice is fine

Since PSW and sponsorship visas are available to those on student visas, the possibility of using those routes is valid whether the applicant chooses to take that or not.

Lastly even those who have full funds to pay for their stay in UK still work. Not everyone that worked during their study or after did so because they didn't have enough funds, many (myself included) worked because we wanted extra income for other things or we simply didn't like being idle or we needed UK experience for the course we took.
Even unpaid volunteering work is considered work in the UK.

Studying requires patience.
If they don't have funding yet then how will your study be funded.
