Hello everyone,

I currently live in GTA Ontario and considering moving from the city I am currently to London Ontario permanently with my family. I would appreciate if I can get people's opinion about living in London Ontario, is it an affordable place for family?, is it affordable to buy a house?, How is the Nigerian community like?, The job market?, The cost of living?, Safety?, Childcare subsidy in the region?

I would appreciate a response from any Nigerian currently in London Ontario

Good day, pls don't read and pass your advice would be of great help on this matter. The father to my sister's husband lived and died in the US, he was a citizen .

However, due to family intrusion(father's family didn't want their son to marry my inlaw mother) my sister's husband was born outside wedlock, so the dad didn't make any move to help his son relocate because of so many family problems, little communication

My in-laws father was married to an American woman who is still living in the US, she is a direct opposite of her husband towards my inlaw. The question now is what are his chances of being able to relocate to the US, can he get a green card as a child of a dead citizen( my in-laws father was buried in the US). Pls we need clarifications, pls don't read and pass, help!
No, his Dad is late. He is also an adult now.
There is nothing he can do to get citizenship through his late Dad.

There are other pathways to get to the US. e.g student

Hello everyone, the veterans!

Please, my immigrant visa is approved and I am here to seek guidance on life generally in the US, especially how to make a decent income based on my educational background. I'm in the Environmental sector with a handful of experience in waste recycling and facilities management. Is there anyone here that has made a good career in the Environmental science sector? Do I need to do any sort of certification to land a good job in this sector? I see people talk a lot about either being in IT or Nursing to make a good money in the US, are these the only areas someone can thrive? I am also open to any beginners friendly business that can bring in money, your suggestion will be appreciated.

The USA they say is the land of opportunity and I believe that will be for people with rightful information. Please, I would appreciate it if people here can attend to my questions and give me a lead. Please bear with me if my writeup is not well put, I'm new here.

Thanks to everyone in advance.
Get your certificates of education and take them with you.
Try to also get you student copy of you transcript if you can.

Some jobs would need your foreign credentials evaluated so you might need the original with you.

For your work experience please identify those who would verify this experience when you need a reference.

Now about your career choice.
Use you free time to research your sector and what career options are in your state. That's the state you are going to live in.

Civil service is a good place to start. Most states would have an agency responsible for waste collection and management.

Also look for companies doing environmental protection eg.waste cleanup, testing of effluent

Use LinkedIn and follow organisations in your field especially if they have presence in your state.

Look online for tools to rewrite your CV in away that's more acceptable in the US. Consider removing references to location of your previous jobs in the description eg. Say you worked with Gtbank ..no need to put Nigeria or Abuja. I say this because if this may count against you don't want it there. You can always answer location in interviews.

Lastly in the area where you live you might want to look into community colleges or universities that have certificate or short term courses in your field. US based education maybe give you an edge.

I'd also add that you can start with recruitment agencies in your area..they usually have contract jobs which are short term and can give you a foot in the door for US experience.

One more thing, it can take awhile so have a lot of patience to continue your career. Whilst you wait find regular jobs that can put food on your table .

In experiences I know it took some minimum of 54 applications to land a job in their career others more like 150 and some of these people did Masters in the US.

DHL says the visa hasn't arrived to their office yet (it's been 28 days) and that it usually takes 6 to 8 month for immigrant visas and passport to be issued/returned. Whereas the embassy said 10 working days.
It's your passport you're waiting to collect.?
That DHL rep doesn't know what he's saying.
I'm assuming passport s were kept with the embass.y after the interview

You should have planned childbirth in a country that can give your child a passport and you permanent residency. 12 million isn't even up to 10000 usd now and by the end of the year it might not be up to 8000 usd.
This, plan with second baby in countries that provide citizenship by birth and grant residency to parents.

Did you see where I said I can send at least $1,500 every month?
It won't be enough, it would barely cover rent in Canada.or most countries

Your wife can not work or study with a 16month old baby in any developed country.

Even if she has a paid nanny or childcare. For a baby it is limited 9-1pm. Nothing like 8hours whilst she's in school or working. . That 8 hours will cost you more than more 1500usd. And your baby will the worse for it.

Don't make decisions from the place of fear,
Your wife and baby are your dependents, don't leave at the mercy of a countries you do not know and have not experienced. They are vulnerable very vulnerable

If your goal is residency for all of you then you can not avoid spending the time to RESEARCH.
Not YouTube and viral SM but actual research to identify a relocation path that you can afford and sustain.

If you can not make the time to do this research then what ever you see you collect.

I'd like you to be specific on the types of certifications academically or vocationally one can get in the USA, especially someone without prior school records in Nigeria.

Thanks for the great piece
When you come first
Each career choice has its skills certifications
Some just require you to have GED which is actually easier than WAEC.

So for example Trade skills have certifications, e.g electrical work, welding, plumbing , general labor etc. These have different certs and some have apprenticeships. Occupational health and Safety certs.
Health sector has different career choices , you can be a medical biller, a nurse assistant, home health aide many of these don't need a university degree.

Hospitality sector , etc

So if you have a sector you're interested in them you can look at the certifications in that area and you can get them to move up in the that sector.
Community colleges give different certificates, some certifications come from the training body so it may be online.

Nice input! What do you know or say about folks from Nigeria, moving to Texas with respect to driving? They have been driving for years in Nigeria. What applies? I know in Canada, Ontario may allow you to challenge G or G2. Getting believable extract from Nigerian embassy, Ottawa may waive some wait time to challenge the G. I don't even know what is obtainable in other provinces. Everyone does G1, though.
You have to check the DMV site specific to Texas.. Each date has its own regulations. I doubt you need driving transcripts sha, just your FRSC license is enough

They would usually have a section on that site with regards to using a foreign driver's license and for how long. Eventually you would still need a state license.

A car is a necessity in Texas, I do not believe they have trains , and considering the land mass of Texas is just slightly smaller than Nigeria then driving is a necessity.

TravelRe: At The NVC Processing Stage Of The U. S Family Based Preference Category. by Taal17:
Congrats to everyone who has gone through interview process.

Lots to do and think about right now.
Air tickets
USA is really large, treat every state like a country. One person's experience in Minnesota is different from another's experience in Alabama.
I know it's expensive but do try to get flights as close to your final destination as possible. It might be tempting to do some journeys by coach(luxurious bus) but if you have a lot of luggage then it's not a good option. Coach station maybe a long distance from airport.

Soft landing
It's okay to do soft landing..arrive in the US and stay for 2/3 months and come back. It might give you time to regroup, understand what you will face and how better to prepare for your new country. Just make sure you return within 6 months.

Transcripts and Certificates
Please take your original academic certificates with you. Reach out to your universities to get your student copy of your transcript.
There are jobs that will require you to have your foreign certificates evaluated.Although they may need your institution to send it directly to them, they will also require your original certificates so bring them with you.

No academic records? No problem
No worries, USA is a country of certification. Lots of jobs require us based certification to qualify so you have plenty opportunities to learn something new and earn income.
Take advantage of learning opportunities around you.
USA has a lot of job specialisation..what one person would do in Nigeria is split into what 5 people would do abroad.

Living with your host
Lowe your expectations, it's a different country a different culture. Paying all bills on a monthly basis put pressure on people no matter how much you think you know them. Be grateful for whatever they offer and quickly find ways to sustain yourself and contribute to household chores and expenses even if it's a little,. Always contribute regularly. If all you can afford is the type of bread the family eats then make sure that's what you buy regularly.
Lastly
SSN and Credit cards
Don't get carried away by credit cards, research online how to use them to you financial benefit. Don't just listen to what people tell you about using CC
Guard your SSN, it's not uncommon that even some hosts will use your SSN to claim tax returns, sell to those will use same to give those who can't work those details to find work, or use them to apply for CC with your details.
Asides from opening an bank account I don't think there's anyone else who needs your SSN.
When in doubt ask whoever it why they need it and if you're not satisfied just go online and see what you get.

Shine your eye..there are many scammers in the US.
text scams , phone call scams etc

All the best in your new life

Thank you Taal17. But if I may clarify the bolded above. Do you mean that even if our children get married, they will still be eligible as dependent of an F3 with the exception of their spouses and children?
Also, does anyone know how this visa bulletin stuff move or is calculated as I can see that F3 is still in Feb 2010? Does that mean we still have about 8 years ( 2018 - 2010) to wait?
Thank you all and happy Sunday to everyone.
I actually had to go back and check this and it seems that derivatives/dependents of applicants of F4 need to be unmarried to be eligible.

So unfortunately your children would need to be unmarried as at the time your interview.

Not gotten anything yet on CSPA

Again is anyone has idea if u were ask to send document in other to finalize ur visa process,is the only d document only or with my international passport i will send together tru DHL
well done Exhausted03 for all d information there is nothing to say u have said it all
Congratulations
You know that Exhausted was not the main applicant the mother is the main applicant . People share here as they wish, there is no obligation.
What was eventually shared is way more than most people would do.

I also was told to bring more documents so it's not uncommon. Just provide what they asked for and your visa would be issued.

Thank you so much @bonawaja for the reply. I appreciate.
We will just keep living our lives, doing other stuffs till NVC is ready for us.
If I may ask, how is the CSPA calculated? Will this still cover our children who are now 21yrs and 19 yrs respectively if they didn't get married by the time NVC is ready for us?
Thank you.
I doubt think vCSPA will affect your children, and getting won't affect them. However I do not think their wives/husbands or children (your future grandchildren) can be added.

This is my flight itinerary with United Airlines.

I will be switching airports from IAD (Dulles International Airport) to DCA (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport).

I have two questions:

1. Considering that this flight itinerary involves one airport switch (IAD to DCA), will my checked bags be automatically checked through to the final destination of SBN (South Bend International Airport) or will I have to retrieve my checked bags at the port of entry, IAD, and check them again at the next airport, DCA?

2. What are the most seamless transportation options/routes from IAD to DCA?
From your itinerary
You will check out your luggage at Dulles and find your way to DCA.
Unless you have very light luggage I'd say take a cab or Uber. You do have a lot of time before your next flight so if you want to explore the city that up to you.
You can also go to the United Airlines desk as you exit immigration at Dulles. They are typically available after you pick you luggage just before the customs area. There's usually a United personnel who could advise you on what to do.

I recently just got a UK student visa and i will be travelling to the UK just a day before the USA visiting visa interview. I know i will have to submit my passport if i get approved and this will affect my UK travel date. Should i just let go of the interview and just let my parents go alone or should i go with them to the interview and explain to the VO about my UK school and flight predicament?

I would appreciate your input guys.

If you attend interview t and are approved you won't be able drop your passport since you have a trip . Your trip to the UK is for school so don't worry. As a student in the UK you can apply for a US visa there. There's no long wait for iUS visa interviews dates in UK. Just a few weeks at most

Yes, or is best to do so especially if you need funding.
The funding for programs goes with the professor and your research interests should align as much as possible.
Treat it like the professor is your hiring manager/line manager.
Sell yourself and why you want to do this research.
