steg0miah: The Vice Chancellor of FUTO, Chidozie Asiabaka, in his speech, expressed joy at the completion of the structure.

Mr. Asiabaka noted that the projects had gone a long way in tackling the dearth of basic infrastructure in the school.

“The dearth of classrooms, lecture theatres, power supply, student hostels, office accommodation, library space and facilities are major challenges my administration faced when I assumed office two years-ago,’’ he said.

The vice chancellor said with the intervention of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, the university got 1000 sitting-capacity lecture theatre, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies Building.

He said the inaugurated projects are the new Engineering Technology, School of Environmental Technology Building, Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies and Training and the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology building complexes.

The others are the School of Environmental Technology building, landscaping of the campus and the provision of solar energy lights on the campus.

He also commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on the completion of the giant student hostel building in the university
.

He lauded the Federal Government for the release of N1 billion for the development of capital projects in each public funded university.
If you actually believe that the efforts to revitalize the rail line between Lagos and Kano was perfected by GEJ in 2-3 years then you are either quite a dullard, or too partisan to be honest, to even yourself. The revitalization program started with OBJ's regime which awarded the contract to revitalize the said rail line to a Chinese company. Endemic corruption during that period did not allow the project to see the light of day until Yar'Adua put a freeze on the contract by withholding funding for the project. Yar'Adua went ahead to restructure the contract and put in place cleaner and more realistic plans to implement the construction contract. As we all know, YarAdua left us before he could see the project to completion.

GEJ inherited and implemented the framework left behind by Yar'Adua quite easily, the real credit belongs to Yar'Adua. Go and read up the reason why Yar'Adua froze the countract and how he restructured it before his death

Symphony007: rome was not built in a day and it was'nt built in a century either. While your government is busy rehabilitating colonial railways, others are building high speed, semi high speed rails. Maybe it will take nigeria a billion years to get there since rome was not built in a day.
Oh! SHUT tha trap you call mouth, Clown. Apart from Rehabilitating/Reconstructing more than 3000kms of Dead Rail tracks, GEJ has almost completed d laying of tracks in d New MODERN Abuja-Kaduna Standard Rail whose construction was began in 2011 (meaning the Modern Rail wud be finished in just bw 2-3 yrs ie in early/mid 2014). The same GEJ has also completed d laying of tracks on another STANDARD Rail line, Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Ore-Warri track (pending Navigational/Signals aids and Train Stations completion, which shld also be finished early next yr)- a Modern Rail track that was started in 1987 but which subsequent 6 diff Administrations have failed to complete. GEJ has also revived d Abuja InterCity Train Line which was started by OBJ but abandoned b4 he came into office- today, rail tracks, stations, culverts and bridges, are bn extensively constructed again along that line (though I don't know d present Completion rate of d ongoing work). Preliminary work has also began in d Modern Lagos-Ibadan Double Standard Track, just as Feasibility Studies on 10 other possible Rail routes for Standard Tracks across d nation is currently going on..... You 'people' wud die as more and more of these projects, in this sector and others, come to completion.
It is quite sad to see how some people are celebrating haulage of containers by rail in Nigeria. What is even sadder is the ignorance of the youths in this country. It might interest readers to note that we had a fully functional railroad system way back in the 70s.

Passenger and freight trains ran from Lagos to very far North regularly back then. So what is there to celebrate? My own celebration will come when GEJ and his incompetent handlers are kicked out of office and replaced by a more competent group. Shi kena.
Actuali, you are getting this thing backwards 'Bros'. The Colonials handed a 3000km rail line to us, and yr fellow NORTHERN Leaders (including yr master, General Buhari) KILLED it as you said since d 70s, with very grave consequences for d Nation's Industries, Agric and general Economy. All subsequent leaders after them either contributed in furthering its death Or doing almost nothing about it. It took a man GEJ just bw 2-3 yrs to reverse d Rot going on for decades and bringing back d Rails, with all its consequent Benefits to d Nation's Industries, Agric, and general Economy. You asked why we are outrageously celebrating? Well, you got yr answer...... By d way, this GEJ that is restoring an entire Dead system and building new ones is 'incompetent', abi? whilst those previous leaders (including Buhari) who killed d System in d 1st place are d 'competent' ones, right? Another Meanwhile, just 2 days ago a train moved for d 1st time in probably more than 12 yrs from PH to Enugu, indicating that d severely damaged rail tracks and bridges (esp those at Aba and Enugu) hv bn successful repaired/ reconstructed. The line has still not bn fully restored though as this train actuali carried materials that wud be used to furder d Restoration work on that line; strongly suggesting that d longer PH-Enugu-Makurdi-Jos-Maiduguri Rail line, wud be fully rehabilitated b4 d end of this year as promised (or at least sections of it), and Passengers and Cargoes can move tru it south/north... naptu2: 2)

A) Heavy rail: This thread is about improvements in the heavy rail network. Rail lines and services that were dormant are being revived (including the rail links to Apapa and Port Harcourt Quays). This move is very important for our economy.

Goods like wheat, cement, mattresses, petroleum products, etc are now being transported by trains. This makes it cheaper for manufacturers to move raw materials directly from the port to their facilities and move finished goods the other way. It also makes life easier for importers.

Wempco has set up its steel factory in Lagos. It needs iron to be able to produce sheet steel. The iron mines are at Itakpe in Kogi State. The dilemma is how to transport iron from Itakpe to Lagos. Well, the Iddo-Kano rail line has a branch that leads to Itakpe. The revival of the rail system makes life easier for Wempco.

One of the problems we've had with the heavy rail system is that the Colonial Government laid narrow gauge tracks, which are very slow. I read of a reception for Lord Lugard in which the Resident (colonial administrator) complained that he needed standard gauge rail tracks because the trains were so slow that sacks of groundnuts were being built up into pyramids in Kano rather than being conveyed to the port in Lagos.

Standard gauge tracks are now being laid.

B) High speed rail: The proposal for a high speed rail link between Lagos and Abuja has been made since the Obasanjo era. Now the government is getting Chinese help to build it.

The future
https://www.nrc-ng.org/gallery/Future-Rail.jpg

However, these high speed trains do not carry goods.

C) Metro: This is very important, particularly in the big cities of Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt. The Lagos and Abuja metro systems are currently being built, but I hear that the Port-Harcourt Monorail project is experiencing some difficulties.
@emboldened, Really? Never knew there was a rail link bw Kano (hence Lagos) to Itakpe. Never knew. If true, it wud reali bn great for Wepco and d Steel Industry in Naija

it references 2012

the countries are groupd in alphabethical order

there were 5 accidents in africa in 2012

two involved fatalities
there was a total of 167 fatalities in africa
Nigeria had 163

Rossikk: The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has listed Nigeria as one of the 14 countries in Africa that have achieved effective air safety implementation above the global average of 61 per cent.

This rating is contained in the ICAO 2013 Safety Report compiled by its Auditors...

The ICAO 2013 Safety Report lends credence to the Category One certification granted Nigeria in 2011 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States of America for meeting stipulated international standards and practices on safety and security.

Nigeria has over the years implemented several safety improvement programmes which also earned it the Category One Certification by the US Aviation Authorities.

Section 281(1) Constitution 2004 FRN

are u also aware this man's name has been forwarded to the national assembly for ratification?

Are you aware of the qualifications prescribed the the Rivers State Laws for Customary Court Judges? Per s281(3)
You should be able to verify that the man does not qualify under that too before dishing out your "opinions"

I know some states specifically require the President of the Customary Court to be a High Court Judge at the time of appointment.

It may well be that this man is of the same cadre as the high court judges and probably got his earlier appointment because he was the most senior judge following the former CJ of the state.

So is this really a case of "Amaechi" choosing the wrong person??

There was No Ambiquity in that section, which made a clear distinction bw a State High Court and its Customary Court of Appeal; and d Constitution is binding on ALL authorities without Nigeria....
