Hi guys,

Anyone has contact of any staff at Union Bank HQ that can assist with the follow up on Form A transaction? Kindly assist.
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by takeastep: 2:50pm On Mar 15, 2016
the A.m mail is the mail you received from the embassy. You only need to print it out and submit it with the envelope and other docs.

OlaoChi:

thanks.
I already prepared travel insurance from IGI valid for 3 months. .and I intend to travel on the first month

I'm not familiar with A.m mailing, but can I get all this done with FedEx?
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by takeastep: 10:49am On Mar 15, 2016
Be rest assured, your visa is a done deal. Congrats.
If i may ask, which bank did you use for your blocked account transaction and how long did it take? Cheers.

OlaoChi:
hello guys,

I received a mail from the embassy asking me to bring My passport, travel insurance and prepaid courier service envelope addressed to myself. they also asked to indicate my travel dates

I wanna ask
1. does this mean I'm getting the visa for sure
2. what courier service is recommendable?
3. how do they intend I indicate my travel dates?

See this for the passport spec. Hope it helps.
https://www.epassportphoto.com/blog/2008/07/german-passport-photo-requirements/

The embassy will definitely retained all your documents; original and copies.
To be returned after the visa process is completed using the prepaid envelope. As a matter of fact, you may be asked to submit your passport after the visa processing then receive it along with your documents via the envelope.

Like I said, you may use the courier company at the embassy. Guess there's FedEx or DHL there. Just hold some good cash. Cost will depend on the address you want your documents to be delivered.

If its long stay, pick an interview date via their online portal asap. You need enough time for the interview, visa processing, collection and preparation. So, you better start now!

ayo23us:
Thanks once again takeastep!
I checked through the embassy's website but couldn't get information about the passport biometrics. Could help with that please?

Thanks for the answer for question 7 but I need to understand something here, the embassy would retain my original documents when I go for submission and interview right? And it is these documents that would be sent back to me through the prepaid courier right? Please do you have ideal about this prepaid services with the courier say DHL?

Lastly, when do you advice I submit an application for interview before my departure to Germany?

Thanks a lot!!! wink

Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by takeastep: 10:11am On Mar 12, 2016
Answer 2: If you submit all your documents correctly on the day of interview, you may not go there more than twice; for the interview and for visa collection.

Answer 3: Visa fee is Naira equivalent of 60 Euros (around 14k)

Answer 4: you may check the German embassy website for the passport spec or at best take your passport at the embassy ( though quite expensive)

Answer 7: The prepaid courier envelope will be used to return your documents after the visa process is done. I am aware you can get it at the embassy. Not sure about the cost.

Cheers.

Hi All,
I intend completing the "VISA application for Research Fellows". I got an offer for a 3-month stay in a German Research facility to conduct some research. I have the following questions to ask as regards this visa category:
1. I would be spending 3 months in Germany (approximately 90-95 days). What visa category should I apply for, Long or Short stay?
2. I stay far away from Lagos, normally how many trips would one make to the embassy before a visa is granted?
3. Those that have visited the embassy for recent interviews, what is the actually processing fee (in naira) that was paid?
4. What is the biometric specifications of the passports required?
5. The embassy requires the primary and secondary school certificates. I only have the secondary cert, would that suffice?
6. I don't think I can lay me hands on any biologically old documents of mine. Is this document compulsory?
7. Can someone please shed more light on the "prepaid courier envelope by any major courier service"? I can't really understand this. What is it for? How do I do this?

I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for the great job going on here!

Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by takeastep: 8:23am On Mar 12, 2016
Answer 1:

If you are staying more than 90 days, apply for Long stay. The last time i went for 92 days, I applied for Long stay. Though i was challenged during the interview that i should have applied for short stay, I stood my ground and insisted i will be staying longer than 90 days (My supervisor also advised I go for long stay visa and he sent a supporting letter too). Though you will be granted 90 days visa here in Lagos, you will have to extend for the remaining days when you arrive in Germany. That's all depending on what's written in your letter of invitation. Your letter must be specific on your date of arrival and departure.

Answer 5:

I have no primary school certificate too. I had to visit my primary school and my headmaster gave me a copy of the School's Pry 6 register in which my name appeared. Stamped and signed. Then got an affidavit to back it up. It worked for me. You can do same.

Answer 6:
Biographically old doc is very important. Its used to ascertain your true age vis-a-vis your academic qualifications. So search your house very well for any old document that bears your date of birth. I used my old baptismal card. I know of someone who used her Waec GCE photocard. Look for something.

All the best.

As per your PhD, first thing first:

1. Decide on your research area of interest
2. Search for schools that offer such
3. Visit their websites and check their requirements. It varies. 99% of PhD programmes are done in English, so TOEFL may not be necessary.
4. Most importantly, you need a supervisor that will agree to supervise you. Check on the professors/lecturers handling your research area in each school. Get their details and begin to fire them with your proposal, CV (make it detailed) and a cover letter (motivation letter).

Then wait for response. It may tarry, you have to be very patient.

Packaging is of utmost importance.

Once you get a supervisor, you are half way done.

All the best.

I have been following you for sometimes now, I must say you doing a great job. I need your help pls.
I am thinking of doing my PhD in Germany and I know one one of the criteria of getting admission is a good motivation letter and proposal. I would be grateful if you can send me a good sample as a guide.

Also, do I need TOEFL for PhD admission?
email is ayoola190@yahoo.com

Also do I need to discuss with supervisor before application?[/quote]

Bro, just walk into any bank and enquire about Form A, they'll explain better.
However, to make your funds transfer possible via Form A, I know u'll need to present your (1). Int'l passport (2)Degree cert/Waec cert (3)Admission letter (4)Letter of Living Cost (u can request for that from ur school's welcome centre) (5)Ur DB account details in full (6) Ur 8090€ or it's naira equivalence.
The bank will give u their exchange rate and charges. Hope this helps.

Whatsoever goes up must surely come down. This is just a phase and it will surely pass. Don't let the economic situation of the country bother or worry you. Just keep your focus. This forex brouhaha is there to frustrate or deter you. If you really want to Do this, then Go for it! Dont look back! All you need is the will and desire....leave the rest to God. He will surely make a way for you....if you believe!

....though it may tarry...we will earnestly wait for it....it will surely come.

Let's keep on keeping on!

Great! Thank you so much. Meaning funding hasnt reached the #2Million mark?

dolpaz:

Official rate directly from CBN as at 02/10/2016 was 221 (selling rate)
Forex rate is pegged at 224.38 (Google)

So if you are using union bank.. Its the Forex rate + 10 naira = 234/euros
Other banks. Forex rate + (between 4/8 naira) = e.g 228, 229, 230, 231, e.t.c

But these rates changes intermittently..

All the best !

Any idea of the current exchange rate? I mean for blocked account.
dolpaz:

Yes, Go to their Walter Carrington office to carry out the transaction cos Idejo is mainly for Bureau de Change

BUT.. They always request for SIGNED admission letter. So if your admission letter does not carry a signature, they will reject the transaction.

But futurewiser, you dey Canada thread too nah.. and also got admission into winnipeg university Manitoba?

So if I have a state government or local government issued birth certificate, with declaration of age affidavit I'm covered?
Because declaration of age is looking easier and cheaper than this NPC wahala
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by takeastep: 12:12pm On Feb 09, 2016
Please try and locate NPC office in your local govt secretariat or around your local govt. Explain to them that you need a birth certificate. It will be arranged for you at a price.

I got mine from NPC office at Ikeja. 10k ready under a week.

The LG birth certificate might be rejected or you asked to provide a declaration of age/affidavit deposed by your parent.

michlan:
Please is it compulsory to go with a birth Certificate from NPC? I went to their office and was told they can't use the cert that has NPC name on it cos i'm older than 18 years. I was only issued a birth certificate from Lagos Mainland LG and the woman I met inisisted it would be accepted.
I need advice and how did you get the NPC birth certificate.

sent you a pm. Will like to ask some few personal questions. Kindly reply. Thanks.

Cindino20:
Another thing new students shld watch out for is the Rundfundbeitrag( Tv licence)....The legality of this is nt up for question ...it has been ruled on by courts of competent jurisdiction.

According to the rule every adult in Germany is expected to contribute abt 17 euros a mth for this... the only exemption if ur income is low or u get Bafög.

So for those of u who reisde in a WG...Its actually easy.....if one person us paying in your flat ...you dont need to pay ..all you need to do is when u recieve the first letter just ask the person to write a reply for you and include you on their bill (same thing applies to those livin in private housing).

But if you reisde alone in an apartment...you ce to pay abt 54 euros every 3 mths...please do not allow this money to accumulate......I made same mistake and now ve abt 300 euros to pay grin....

If you plan to reside here after studies dont allow this money to accumulate....you will ve to pay it someday.

I will nt advise anyone to gv them their account details of direct debit...just pay and use ur beitrag number fas reference.

All the best.

About this upcoming event: I spoke to the Social Director of the Association through the number on the poster and he told me theres nothing like gate fee or entrance fee for the event. Food and drinks very plenty for all. However, it is expected that all members coming for the event would have paid their annual due of 20Euros. For non-members, voluntary contribution is welcome but not compulsory.

So, lets make it date!

See you guys, God willing.
