@deep sight

In MANY African cultures, it was VERY normal to have people go about bare-chested - completely - including women.

The active word you used in that paragraph is "WAS" which signifies that such culture occured in the past.
From my understanding of Nigerian culture especially the SE/SS in this case, a respectable woman is supposed to be properly clad at all times especially in public while the only case of naked people I've heard of in the entire northern Nigeria are the Koma people in Adamawa. So my dear friend, indecent dressing/exposure has never been amongst our womens culture.

naptu2: Would you believe that in the mid 2000s area boys in Surulere wrote to the stadium management that they want to be given the chance to manage the stadium. That they'd do a good job if given the opportunity (I'm not kidding).

If placed under the right management, that stadium is a cash cow.

By the way, there was already a stadium at the site of the present Teslim Balogun Stadium. It was known as UAC Stadium. The stadium was demolished in 1987 and construction work began on the Teslim Balogun Stadium (it took 20 years to complete the stadium).
area boys ke shocked ? Don't make me laugh abeg. The both of us are on the same page but I bet you the sports ministry officials will never find a suitable company that can manage our stadia because they feed fat on the maintenance money that comes every year from the budget except the company is owned by a crony of theirs, I could have suggested it be handed over to the lagos state govt but no one knows the policy that will be put in place when Fashola leaves office. We can only pray that the NFF for example improves security at such venues, eliminate match fixing so that people will be encouraged to watch footballl matches every wknd thrby generating revenue for maintenance at least.

yusulphul: after all Nigerian forces lack training and kit, so they simply don't have the capability to carry out even basic military manoeuvres," UK Guardian

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/nov/05/nigerian-army-mali-mission-delayed

we need to solve our internal problems 1st,we aint better than Mali,We have boko haram there,we are yet to solve that imagine
pls I would advice you not to take these foreign newspapers seriously on this issue. For Obasanjo's tenure a lot of money has been spent on weapons & upgrades for our military & police formationsn you're a civilian and so you won't know about all these things. The average Nigerian soldier is a very highly trained individual and during his/her career is sent on relevant courses ALL over the world. You won't know that because you're not supposed to except you have a friend or relative in the army who confides in you. I think its very silly for anyone to say our soldiers are poorly trained and for you a Nigerian to accept such as fact, why not go to the NDA one of these days for a start and see what soldiers go thru first of all.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan In Lagos. Inspects Police College. by talktimi(m): 6:07am On Jan 19, 2013
slim fit :
That stadium should be sold and demolished its a waste of resources what does Lagos want to do with 2 stadium s that very closed to each other sell it to property agents or churchs. It's surplus to requirement
sold/demolished isn't the way to go, remember the lagos state govt met the national stadium whr it is and still decided to build the teslim balogun directly opposite, as a kid growing up and going to primary & secondary sch thru that axis I always wondered at the logic. In my opinion, the national stadium lagos should be concessioned to a private individual for 10/30 yrs who's main job IS stadium facility management. Such an enterprise will know how to manage the stadium better while those who have been in charge of the stadiums for the past 10yrs should be queried and those found culpable for the rot should be retired. Money is released each year for maintenance but civil servants are the most corrupt individuals in Nigeria.

Omojuo: All responsible agencies include maintainance of their institutions, renovations, etc in their yearly budget.
Where issues that were not covered in the budget become expedient, the head of such organization make arrangement to address such issues.
Training institutions in the security sector is fundamental to the success of any outfit.
As a responsible IGP, you must take these colleges seriously, if you have the dream of grooming responsible officers.
The deplorable state of the police college Ikeja is an indictment on the IGP. He doesn't qualify to be there. He has been feeding fat on police fund.
Last year, over 900billion was budgeted for security, how did the police use theirs? THE IG HAS QUESTIONS TO ANSWER. OR WAS HE EXPECTING PRIVATE SECTOR TO TAKE OVER POLICE?
Well, we thank God that GEJ has visited, we will see changes. But Nigerians shouldn't lose sight of the mismanagement in the police force. Something has to be done to change Abubakars attitude.
I wouldn't really blame the present IGP Abubakar, the rot had set in decades earlier even down to their barracks. Let's not forget though that money is released on a yearly basis for maintenance and others but the police leaderships prefer to silence the monies...

.."A breakdown of the miscellaneous expenses in the budget proposal showed that the sum of N203, 753m was allocated for refreshment and meals,"

If the budget for feeding in the presidential villa is N203 million as stated, where did people get the N1 billion that they're talking of ?

No governor in Nigeria pays for his feeding from his pocket, let's keep sentiments aside and reason with logic

Aso rock and state houses across the country have a large staff which is included in the day to day feeding not only the president/governor but their staff as well which includes the cooks, drivers, gardners, security the ones working under the vice/deputies, visitors etc.

Where we should even vent our anger if at all we want to do so is in the duplication of funds released under different names. My own two cents sha cool

People are here complainin because somebody bought something with his money complaining about the condition of his community. Isn't his community part of a local govt council and doesn't the council have a chairman ? The community definitely has a member in the state house of assembly representing their collective.

Nothing wrong with it. Misplaced priorities, I saw someone post? No more misplaced than one who earns 100,000 NGN per month, yet runs a 2011 Toyota Camry XLE.

I'm sure when you all bought your automobile, you were happy, and people rejoiced with you. Well for Pete's sake, do the same for this guy! He's simply asking how much each state govt budgeted for feeding, the presidency's budget is roughly over N200 million this year. This is a straight foward question and doesn't entail hurling of insults or tribalistic comments as is being done now by some people on this thread.

ujchief: Why do we have minister of state for many of the ministries? We'v got minister of education and minister of state for education, same for power, defence, health and many more. This is a waste of taxpayers money, as they run parallel responsibilities.
They should scrap them, alongside other ministries with no portfolio and debatable responsbilities; eg minister/ministry of labour and productivity, aviation should be integrated with ministry of transport, economic planing should be integrated with ministry of economics and so on.
you have a very sound argument but with the way Nigeria is, states who don't produce a minister will cry out about marginalisation. Even if you come down to individual states, its not so much a case of duplication but rather formation of irrelevant ministries like chieftaincy affairs all in a bid to "carry everybody along"
