Are your brakes harder than usual?

I turn off the engine, wait one min, depress the break pedal its initially soft then becomes harder and stiff after when depressed.

GAZZUZZ: "AFTER" you turn off your car?

When engine is off wait 1min then step on your brakes they should be soft for a few seconds then stiff afterwards, if this does not happen the hissing sound may be comming from a leaking servo (brake booster).

I did the break test..it goes stiff as you said. What are the signs of a vacum leak?

GAZZUZZ: Did you recently change battery? Or disconnect battery before this happened? If yes, keep driving for a while your car will Re-learn and the rpm will correct its self without you noticing, also scan to see what the dtc code refers too,finally listen for any hissing sounds and vacuum leaks.

hi Gazzuzz, I hear a hissing sound when I turn off the engine and open the bonnet of my car with 2AZ-FE engine after driving, its brief and stops. Always wondered what that is. Usually thought its normal. Is this a sign of vacumm leak? There is no check engine light in my dashboard.

you don't need any necessary knowledge to volunteer. There are stuffs you can do even if you are not medically inclined. So pls find your way to Lagos state ministry of health and offer to help fight ebola. Don't waste time, delay might be dangerous.

GAZZUZZ: LG govt boys are on the rd to collect road taxes,radio licence tax,mobile adverts, .......... There are a lot of taxes corporate bodies ard supposed to pay every year, funny thing is if you enter any local govt office to pay for this stuff every thing will cost you between 5-10k (depending on your bargaining power) but on the road hmmm its a different ball game, since they stoped them from putting sticks and nails on the road, they now work with the security agents at security check points e.g army will stop you and tell you to park, LG boys will continue the interogation.

As for the custom duty guy even a car I bought here on nairaland last week (tokumbor unregistered) with tincan custom duty was stopped at okene as it was being delivered they pointed out 1 very small detail and said yes the car was cleared in tincan but the agent did not pay all the processing fees! How they figured it out I don't know, well I called up the chap that sold the vehicle, he called up the agent, agent called customs 7hrs later money exchanged hands (agent transfered cash)car was released. Now for that type of car your heart would alwasy skip a beat when you get to a custom check point.

For the custom duty I DONT CARRY THE CERTIFICATES IN MY VEHICLE, I just flash a get out of jail card when stopped and move on.

Pointers

1. Ensure your car has all the particulars especially custom duty the original one the guys at ibilo and okene are deadly. If you don't have those papers just get ready to part with between 1 and 30k on each stop depends on their mood and your bargaining power.

2.If you car is any of the "bank models" ensure the name of the owner of the vehicle is not a cooperate name if not the local govt bois will get you, that's another 10-25k depending on your bargaining power their moods are always bad. P.s this applies to trucks and cars that are often bought brand new.

3 between ife and owo there are a lot of pointless speedbrakers beware.

4. Nasty curves in akoko(ondo state)

GAZZUZZ: Worn out brake pads Should not cause your pedal to feel soft, if you have a leak and air has been introduced to your hydraulic system yes it could feel soft,also if your brake fluid dropped so low as to allow air into the system, yes it could feel soft and finally if your brake master cylinder is faulty it could also feel soft. Have your system bleed to release air pockets inside your brake lines, if its still soft replace brake master.

Hi. Pls my brake pedal feels soft not as hard and springy as usual. One mech says I should replace the master cylinder, another says to replace brake pads and calipers. I'm not really cut ready for trial and error mechanics. Although the break pads are truly worn when I checked, but will worn out breaks and calipers cause a soft break pedal?
