I have had plans on so many ocassions to buy a car from Nairaland but never found a good one at the right price and time. Am still searching.

Family and friends have warned me not to buy from nairaland due to 2 issues; fraudsters and stolen vehicles.

I was of the opinion that to absolve myself from prosecution for receiving stolen property, i will ask my seller to join me with the car to a police station where we will demand for a police report and thereafter go to court for change of ownership registration. With that, i believe, i the buyer may be free from prosecution. Ofcourse, police report is a little issue as they may make you pay through your nose. The court i believe charge as little as N200 (in the north o). An option is for the buyer and seller to take the car to any FRSC office to confirm if its not stolen. All these should be carried out b4 money is transfered to the seller. It also means the seller must be willing to leave his business to do that. If the car was bought from a registered auto dealer, then a reciept or an invoice should protect the buyer from prosecution if car is later discovered to be stolen. The auto dealer should be responsible but the Nigerian security system will be so quick to lock you up even with a reciept from the company.

Someone with better experience can tell us if my opinion will work or better ways for us buyers to protect ourselves from the police. On instances like this, the police are known for locking up everybody that has his name mentioned.

Thank you brother. Even Togo and Sierra Leone are all colonial creation, Nigeria is not unique. Countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and United States are all colonial creations, multi-ethnic, but they seem to be doing better.

The political establishment benefit from the tension between people because if they are busy fighting each other, then they can't unite together to stop them.

If we unite together and fight the people who have sold the future of the country, then we can talk about restructuring.

I believe every nation should start working on nuclear weapons as credible deterrent to American aggression that will definitely increase as they lose their sole superpower status with China, Russia and the EU coming into fray.

Time to revive our space program in Nigeria as this automatically gives you the needed knowledge for nuclear weapons design and workability.

You are wrong brother. Nigeria has potentials. But it is unfortunate we have not been able to realise and harness those potentials. To a greater extent, we are better endowed than China, or Saudi Arabia and some other emerging economies. Ask me what is wrong, why are we not at least at par with these advanced countries. Simple. Leadership!. Leadership has let everyone of us down. What has government done about millions and billions of dollars siphoned out of the country, what has government done to improve human capital, in fact we are trying in our educational sector with the little we have had, what has government done to generate revenue from other sources other than oil. When you ask these questions, you begin to get answers. Let's take count of the amount of natural resources Nigeria is endowed with. Logically, we should be better than Saudi, UAE, and competing with the likes of US, Canada and so on. We should be "giant of africa" in the real sense of it. We have resources. A lot of it. We have got the fighting spirit but corruption, and nepotism has brought us on our knees.
