jaephoenix: Now this is the whole of Numbers 22. This passage explains just one of the reasons atheists believe yhwh and the Bible were a poorly constructed joke. There are myriads of reasons but now, we'll dissect just one of them.
Read up… Numbers 22
1 Then the Israelites traveled to the plains of Moab and camped along the Jordan across from Jericho.
2 Now Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites, 3 and Moab was terrified because there were so many people. Indeed, Moab was filled with dread because of the Israelites.
4 The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, “This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.”
So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time, 5 sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the Euphrates River, in his native land. Balak said:
“A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me. 6 Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you curse is cursed.”
7 The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.
8 “Spend the night here,” Balaam said to them, “and I will report back to you with the answer the Lord gives me.” So the Moabite officials stayed with him.
9 God came to Balaam and asked, “Who are these men with you?”
10 Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message: 11 ‘A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away.’”
12 But God said to Balaam, “Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed.”
13 The next morning Balaam got up and said to Balak’s officials, “Go back to your own country, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you.”
14 So the Moabite officials returned to Balak and said, “Balaam refused to come with us.”
15 Then Balak sent other officials, more numerous and more distinguished than the first. 16 They came to Balaam and said:
“This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Do not let anything keep you from coming to me, 17 because I will reward you handsomely and do whatever you say. Come and put a curse on these people for me.”
18 But Balaam answered them, “Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the Lord my God. 19 Now spend the night here so that I can find out what else the Lord will tell me.”
20 That night God came to Balaam and said, “Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you.”
Balaam’s Donkey 21 Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the Moabite officials. 22 But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the Lord stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him. 23 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat it to get it back on the road.
24 Then the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path through the vineyards, with walls on both sides. 25 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot against it. So he beat the donkey again.
26 Then the angel of the Lord moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left. 27 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, it lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat it with his staff. 28 Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?”
29 Balaam answered the donkey, “You have made a fool of me! If only I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now.”
30 The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?”
“No,” he said.
31 Then the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.
32 The angel of the Lord asked him, “Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.[a] 33 The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If it had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared it.”
34 Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back.”
35 The angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you.” So Balaam went with Balak’s officials.
36 When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite town on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory. 37 Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send you an urgent summons? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I really not able to reward you?”
38 “Well, I have come to you now,” Balaam replied. “But I can’t say whatever I please. I must speak only what God puts in my mouth.”
39 Then Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath Huzoth. 40 Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and gave some to Balaam and the officials who were with him. 41 The next morning Balak took Balaam up to Bamoth Baal, and from there he could see the outskirts of the Israelite camp.
Now, reading the above passage as a fresher should have one scratching his head. 1. An omniscient god was asking a mortal he created who the other mortals are. As an omniscient god, he would have told Balaam that some officials would visit him in some days, and told him what he would tell them as reply. 2. Not only that, he originally told Balaam not to go with them, but changed his mind and told him to go with them when they sent more goodies 3. Now when Balaam obeyed him and went with them, he sent an angel to kill him, even though poor Balaam was adhering to him instructions 4. After threatening Balaam that he would have killed him if not for the donkey, he still went ahead to tell him to continue on the journey 5. I don't want to talk about the talking donkey ( that's some hardcore Shrek moves ) that's for another day.
So, lets hear your views, sir If this is the big evidence you have against God, it's a bit funny to me. I think the problem here is that you are trying to ascribe your preferred, style of speaking, personality, and mannerism to God. I don't see any short coming in God expressing himself the way he did. But you are the atheists, it's your place to see short coming even in God's personality even when there is none. |

drlateef: Yes, igbos are not tolerant, that’s why there’s no festac, no Amuwo odofin in Nnewi and Onitsha. And you rub it in the nose of your host. The Indians and Pakis did not commit terrorist offences before BNP started disturbing them. You don’t rub it in face of your host and ask them to shut up. You can’t even give them land in your place. So Igbo's say Lagos is no man's land, that's why you no longer sleep at night? If we check it you are not from Lagos. So Yorubas say Lagos is their land , Igbo's say it's no man's land. Intelligent people would see that as a simple conversation or innocent argument but the most tolerant people want to start a world world. Just don't extend this hate to your innocent children. Let their sins not be on your tiny head. |

Let me ask you this bush man, why is there no festac, no Amuwo in ijebu or osogbo? Oga you need re-education. The only reason why everyone comes to Lagos is because of its economic importance to Nigeria. Lagos is not about the Yorubas, it's about Nigeria. There is no Festac in Nnewi because the Federal Gov had not for the past 100 years make Nnewi it's investment capital simple. They did not build our biggest international airport in Nnewi, they did not build our two biggest seaports in Nnewi. Even under colonial rule, Lagos was headquarters of most multinationals and the military continued to invest in Lagos as a whole. Don't forget it was the military that built trade fair and Festac. I repeat, you don't get deported for saying London is no man's land. It's funny that the most tolerant people on earth are the ones crying because of Igbo presence. With the exception of Lagos, there are far more Igbo's in the NW so stop this fake tolerance talk. |

Only native borne who have no other nationality can not be deported. So, no matter the number of years you spend here and with your British passport you can still be deported. That’s when they will show you that UK belongs to the natives. That applies in many western countries. And of course you are silent on arab countries for obvious reasons, they are even more stringent on foreigners, they never give you citizenship. That’s what we need in Lagos after Biafra is given, it must be given so that we can clean lagos of rubbish. Now you are showing your foolishness. Does the UK send people home for saying London is no man's land? Have the Igbo's committed terrorism and other major crimes? Why are you so senseless. I am no citizen of the UK but the UK would not send me home for saying London is no man's land. Only a tribalist idiot thinks the way you do. You need a therapist to help with your Igbo hate. But none of those countries allow foreigners to abuse them or claim their land belongs to nobody. They won’t take that nonsense from any foreigner. That’s exactly what the Yorubas are taking from the ungrateful igbos who claim that Lagos belongs to nobody. Its very insulting and disgraceful. The Yorubas should be thankful to the rest of us for building our major city in the SW. Clearly you have never left iraji Osun state. So let me educate you. There is no law in UK that prevents a foreigner form saying London belongs to him. Infact we have Nigerian immigrants winning elections in UK. Xxx123xxx: ..Your response is more emotional than logical, clearly with no need for real data , Igbos own more Investment per head in Lagos than anywhere else in Nigeria. The question is why ? Simply put Lagos embodies the right condition for all who are willing and able to achieve their dreams regardless of tribe and ethnicity. Oga, you are the illogical one here. Now let me tell you why Lagos is the most invested city in Nigeria and it has nothing to do with the Yorubas. 1. The two main sea ports 2. The biggest and oldest international airport. 3. The longest serving capital of Nigeria with the highest Federal investments. 4. The above reasons make Lagos the best place for foreign investment. It is the headquarters for almost all overseas investments. 5. The population. Now if Lagos is what it is because of the Yoruba, how come other Yoruba states can't boast as much. Maybe the Yorubas from Lagos are more intelligent than those in Ogun, Osun and Ekiti? Mind you, I have been to every state in the SW and the difference between them and Lagos is clear. The level of voter apathy already entrenched in the region will be further exacerbated by the ongoing IPOB terrorists killings, wanton destruction and threat against the election. The core biafrans in Igboland will sit at home on election day while others will do so out of fear of IPOB terrorists throwing grenades or opening automatic gunfire into crowded election centres. I can tell that you have never visited Igbo land and you don't understand it's people. The so called core Biafran would not even have a PVC. So the 10 million PVC holders in the region are not core Biafrans. As for fear of violence, while that's a real thing, it's not as bad as you think. If voter Apathy due to fear of violence is not a problem in the NE and NW, why do you think it will be a problem in the SE. |

MaxInDHouse: If you want to argue why not do so based on what is written in black and white?
Don't you get it, that's all I have been doing.
When God called out Abraham from among his people it was recorded that Abraham and his forefathers were worshipers of other gods not the one that called him out to leave them and move to another destination.
So? Yes God called Abraham and that is recorded in the bible. What about the hundreds of prophets God called that is not recorded in the bible?
it's confirmed that all other nations worship gods made of stones and woods not the true God. Going back to your lies. Melchizedek and his people were not worshiping false Gods niether was Job and many others. Jethro also. [/b]
So if you're still expecting God to tell you that none outside the covenant established with the Israelites is His prophet then i wonder how you make use of your brains! I don't use my brain in guessing. And I don't use my brain as an idiot. Listen to your logic. 1. God called Abraham and and promised him great blessing. 2. The bible has no record of another non Israel prophet so no Israel prophet. This is not a sound use of the brain. |

MaxInDHouse: Straw-man's argument! You just mention one prophet of God that's not an Israelite in the Bible! If God reveals non Israel prophet today, that's good for me. But then Melchizedek and Job are 100% prophets. A prophet is someone who God reveals his word for the rest of us and job fits that definitely.Still let's not change the topic. Let's pretend they are not prophets. Let's pretend the bible never mentioned s non Israel prophet. The difference between you and I is that I don't fill in the gap for God. I wait on the Lord. I believe in his revelations. But your American people created their own doctrine and told their own stories. They were not satisfied with where God left it and decided to take it a step further. So when you say by their works we shall know them, for you guys it's all guesswork. |

MaxInDHouse: Straw-man's argument! You just mention one prophet of God that's not an Israelite in the Bible! That's not how it works. I only say what has been revealed. I don't guess either way. I think I have finally discovered the major difference between us. One of us depends on the revealed words of God while the other depends on the Guesswork of some men in America. |
