The white made Lagos a city how many years back " made a city " are talking about here?

Are you referring to lagos " of old that's not even up to two local gov or the latter Lagos that was conjoined with other SW states?/

If the Oyo empire could experience civilization like you agreed which is the old Yoruba empire why can't the same Yoruba replicate the same Lagos of today? The question is, why lagos, why Oyo empire if it's not in the blood?

Abuja, for over 30 of being the country's capital till this day could not compete with Lagos, wetin happen?

Dude, by the way, every country the British left were more or less partially developed before they did where are they today, those developments, and how come Lagos is still standing? Nah whimch be dat? You are comparing Lagos under British rule to that of today, na so infrastructure no dey decay?

Is Lagos the only state with one federal airport as of today?

And please, let's apply brain sometimes, no country grows or develops through importation, nowhere in the world has there been, importation kills the growth of a country and her economy.

You sef Hear yourself, Import capital

You are obviously from the East please take your importation elsewhere, what we need in SW is export capital.
Lmao
I don't understand much of what you wrote but just so you know, before 1960, Lagos was already the richest city in Nigeria. Lagos gave Abuja almost 80 years gap. Also, Abuja does not have a seaport.
Lagos has many years gap over all other cities. Lagos is not the only state with a federal airport but it has the biggest by far. It also has the biggest and most developed seaport.
The fact that no country grows or develops through importation means nothing here. Businesses would grow in a city where they have easy access to imports and exports and Lagos is the only city in Nigeria that has such infrastructure.
So before the whites came the biggest civilizations in Nigeria were Benin, Kano, and Borno. Lagos is a product of post-European coming. It is a product of the entire Nigerian nation. Nigerians have invested more into Lagos than any other city even before Tinubu was born.

Abeg don't compare Lagos to Cairo

We have managed the little resources, and built Infrastructure for the use of the entire Nigerians
Let's talk about Yoruba civilization. Before the coming of the whites, the biggest Yoruba civilization was the Oyo empire. Lagos or Eko was not a renowned kingdom or empire. It could not be compared to Egba or Ijebu.
The whites were responsible for making Lagos a city, not the Yorubas. And the entire Nigeria is responsible for the present Lagos, not Tinubu. We made Lagos the import capital of Nigeria. We made Lagos the investment hub. The Lagos airport, the Federal government infrastructure, The corporate world investments. Lagos has over 100 years gap on most Nigerian cities.

Why are you talking like a baby? When we talk about the Egyptian civilization, we are referring to a lost civilization. Again, Lagos has nothing to do with Yoruba civilization. Lagos as we know it is a modern city built by the Portuguese and fell into the hands of the British. The British then made it the center of their new colony. After the British left in 1960, the Nation Nigeria retained it as their center of commerce. The City remains the Nigerian longest serving capital and it has always been the headquarters of multinationals since the time of the British. Please know your history.

You can talk about it, I am listening but first, you need to be honest, Lagos has been among the top 4 cities in Africa for over 100 years now. It's a shame that Lagos with over 21 million is behind Cairo with just over 9 million people.

Lagos has always been in the top 4 in Africa. But is a shame that despite the large population, Lagos could only come 4th. That tells you how unproductive we are. Cairo with less than 10 million people is more productive than Lagos with over 20 million people. Accra, relative to the population is richer than Lagos.

Its easy to assume that everything would be fine but when you look at the international data plus, Nigeria is always more expensive than the global average, you would most likely be running at a loss. But the idiots in government don't care. So long they are able to borrow money and become billionaires, all is well for them.

Not really, have you done your market survey? Are cargo rails profitable in Europe? Would these rails connect to the main markets? Just so you know, rail is not profitable in so many countries, why do you think Nigeria would be different?

So your suggestion is that African and other poor countries, in general, should not try to build rail systems simply because they are poor?
Ok, that's a new one...
So how will get out of poverty if they don't try to develop their infrastructures?
So I just came across this on Nairaland today. Our borrowing has not made us rich, rather it has deepened our poverty.

The Debt Management Office has disclosed that Nigeria’s total public debt stock has increased from N41.60tn as of March 2022 to N42.84tn as of June of the same year, showing an increase of N1.24tn in three months.

This is according to a press statement published on the DMO’s website on Monday.

The statement read in part, “The Total Public Debt Stock, representing the Domestic and External Debt Stocks of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the 36 State Governments and the Federal Capital Territory, was N42.84tn ($103.31bn) as of June 30, 2022. The comparative figures for March 30, 2022, was N41.60tn ($100.07bn).”

The DMO noted that external debt remained the same at N16.61tn ($40.06bn) from Q1 to Q2 2022, adding that 58 percent of external debts were concessional and semi-concessional loans from multilateral lenders such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Afrexim, and African Development Bank and bilateral lenders including Germany, China, Japan, India, and France.

It also noted that domestic debt rose to N26.23tn ($63.24bn) due to new borrowings by the government to part-finance the deficit in 2022 Appropriation {Repeal and Enactment) Act, as well as new borrowings by State Governments and the FCT.

The DMO further said that the Total Public Debt to GDP as of June 30, 2022, was 23.06 percent compared to the ratio of 23.27 percent as of March 36, 2022, adding that the Debt Service-to-Revenue Patio remained high.

Did the millions of people who lived before Christ came all go to hell?
Christ died for the salvation of all mankind. Both those that came before him and those after him. Did you not read in 1Peter 3.19-22 that Christ preached his gospel to the spirits in prison? Did you not read in John 5.28-29 that the dead shall hear the voice of Christ.
One last scripture for you.

1Peter4.6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

Yes, do not build rails. If you mention the best things African countries could do with their money, rails would not be among the first 100.
Imagine if we had built our refineries instead or built our gas infrastructure or built our steel plant, I can go on and on. If we have invested in the right infrastructure, by now, we would not be losing money rather we would be increasing our foreign reserve.
The problem we have is the wrong people in government.
Just so you know, the US railway system is privately owned. If our government had made it easier to do business in Nigeria, private businesses would be rushing to build our rail system.
Finally, mention one country that got out of poverty because their government kept borrowing money to build infrastructure.
Now let me give you a list of countries that fell into economic trouble because their governments borrowed to build infrastructure.
Argentina
Brazil
Pakistan
Sri Lanka
Djibouti
Kyrgyzstan
Laos
Montenegro
Spain

Mos of the people commenting here are very ignorant of world realities.
The fact is that most public transportation around the world don't make anything close to their operations cost not to talk of profit.
Especially a new rail system that's just getting off the ground cannot break even anytime soon. Most private businesses don't even break even in the beginning not to talk of a public business. Do you guys even think that most buses and train systems in Europe and the US are breaking even or even making any money? Most will go out of business without govt subsidies and allocations.
Couple this world reality with the Nigerian factor of bribe and corruption. Everyone working at the train station is already thinking of how to pocket the ticket fee instead of giving it to the govt.
Employ some of these youths on NL and their number goal is to get rich from one scam or the other at the train stations....
We are talking of one of the poorest countries in the world that can't afford to service its debts. Any fool can build infrastructure without caring about its cost. True high-speed rail is mostly run at a loss in Europe but these are wealthy nations. It was always a bad idea to build those rails.

I will want to start by imploring all our !gbo brother and sisters to please stop this politics campaign of generalisation. There is nothing like ' we Nigerians are tired' ..

First of all, we are not brothers to start with, i can never be a brother to bunch of miscreants that called my country a zoo . And i will never stand and watch this same children of hate suddenly starts pretending to be part of the Nigeria we the sane minds and patriotic citizens have been defending all this while.

It is becoming annoying, maddening, provoking, displeasing, , pestiferous to read everyday that this unpatrotic, unloyal , treasonable, untrustworthy, two-faced bunch of people are now hypocritically reffering to Nigeria as 'our country' . so freaking annoying and exasperating! . Please desist! We are not same Nigerians, and we can never be, Nigeria is my country, not yours!.

Secondly, this set people have also created a tactics of saying ' The youths' .. If i may ask again, who are the youths?? Do you mean umudike !gbo youth congress. Because it can't be the same Nigerian youth which i am part of presently too. Please desist from generalizing or joining us together in your campaign of insults, hate and stupidity. You are embarrassing us and making the Nigerian youth look daft, preposterous , dumb, idiotic, nonsensical, witless, and senseless in the face of the general public. You and your candidate are damaging and obliterating our already battered image in the eyes of the world. I repeat please desist!. Before the dance, the head shakes first. I will always remind you, you were warned beforehand.

Lastly, well everyone is free to dream, and like i always preach everytime that that 2023 is a year of awakening to reality not reckoning. So many of you will be shock. The spotlight will die off, the buzz will die down, the attention will dissapear into oblivion. You all will be left alone drowning inside the ocean of massive defeat. You will have no other options, than to either let yourself drown and perish. Or beg and cry for help while trying to grab the only hand that can help you, the one of Asiwaju Tinubu. The same hand, you are bitting the finger off presently through hate, insults and campaign of calumnies. It will be left for him to decide your faith, inshallahu.

Your liar, deceiver, misleader, fabulist, falsifier, deluder and fabler of a candidate won't be there to save you as at that time, because he will have crawled back into the hole which is beffiting of a coward and politically insignificant, non-influencial person like himself.

But as for me, i will rather see you lot drown in ocean of defeat and perish for the betterment of a new Nigeria.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Every day, about 10 of you would write an article against the Igbos. What you don't get is that it is too late. Basically, everyone on Nairaland has their minds made up. So, continue with the tribalism you are only killing yourself with hate.

Who said so?

We are human who are bound to fall into sin occasionally, what is important is for us to be remorseful and repent from such sin.

But a reprobate mind does not show remorse or show guilt, they continue and delight in their sin.
Ok your point is that when we do not show remorse, we have committed an unforgivable sin?
So what about the prodigal son? He abandoned his God and showed no remorse but when he finally returned, God forgave him.
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Is It Unforgivable To Sin Against The Holy Spirit by tctrills: 10:27pm On Sep 18, 2022
blueAgent:
You are complicating something that is simple.

Committing sin is not the issue but continuing in sin becos of grace is unforgivable sin.

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

There is difference between willful sin and non willful sin.
Example when Peter denied Jesus b4 the 3 cock crow, that was an unwilliful sin, most christains and born again at times fall into this kind of sin, the fact remains that ppl who commit this kind of sin are remorseful and feel guilt and seek God's mercy and forgiveness, another example is David and his sin of Audeltry.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

But when one lives in inquity or commits the unforgivable sin against the Holy spirit, the person no longer fears God, neither is the person remorseful about his or her sin, such ppl delightfully indulge in sin they defend or try to rationalise the reason behind them committing that sin rather than humble themselves and accept their sinfulness.

They contend with God if possible they try to guilt God.

Such ones, God has given them to reprobate mind.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

If you cannot understand this explanation don't quote me again.
So your point is that you can commit sin but once you do it because of grace its over. Hmmm
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Is It Unforgivable To Sin Against The Holy Spirit by tctrills: 4:17pm On Sep 18, 2022

You still don't get it.

One can have the knowledge of stealing as sin and still indulge in it, hoping on God's grace this will full sin. when one practices sin or delights in sin that is called inquity in this cases the Holyspirit is grieved and it is called the unforgivable sin.
You are not making a clear point. Are you saying that when one sins hoping on God's grace, that is a sin against the HolyGhost? Because all Christians sin, hoping God would forgive. Also, for anyone to commit sin, it means the person delights in sin unless the person is forced. For example, a young man that steals his parent's money is that a sin against the HolyGhost because the young man would not do it if he does not delight in it?
