I'm just trying to correct that rubbish misconception always in here of Nigeria being defenceless against an attack by SA.

And then, you're not capable of invading NIGERIA when your vessels ain't enough to patrol your own waters.

Ok so now that we have established that:

1. The Tucano is the best fighter.........In Africa!

2. NN Unity and Centenary OPVs are the most advanced and powerful warships in africa..........with the most advanced 76mm gun on the planet which is fully capable of anti-ship and anti-air......oh and also functions as a CIWS capable of intercepting any type of missile.

3. Nigeria is the most powerful country in Africa..........BY FAR i might add!!

Here is a few pics of the much much inferior SANDF during Ex Shared Accord:
Now we know you're a big liar

Can you quote any post with this? You have zero dignity or are you pained your IPV /OPV capability isn't as great as ours? You're butt hurt your plans for project Biro was cancelled while Nigeria is currently about to purchase a SSV and missile crafts with the CNS requesting for funds to purchase a frigate and a submarine?

Let me tell you something, you might have some toys, those frigates etc but that Shiit doesn't mean you're going to invade us successfully.

Having piles of Ashm doesn't mean those ships will land on ships. There's something called ECM just as you said our 76mm has no anti warfare capability, you can as well say we have no countermeasures. Mr ITK.

True. Thanks. I'll go for the su 30 as an heavy weight fighter but the j10 is an aircraft I love.

The J10 is okay for us.

all three you mentioned are in the medium weight category.

.
The Gripen, JF-17, Tejas, F-50 Golden Eagle and F-5 Tiger are all lightweights.

So it all depends on our overall objective.
Heavy weight fighter, I'll go for su 30 or J10

do you know how flak works?
.
it works by laying down a string of air burst munitions at the most probably place an aerial target would pass through to achieve a high probability of success.

your 76 mm (unguided) employs such method which can only engage outdated missile.

however note that your source didnt state specifically that it can hit a missile... but it was citing an example. (using the flak method).

....,.............................
The high rate of fire of 120 rds/min and the range of 15 km provided by the Oto Melara SRGM makes it the perfect dual-role weapon which can engage surface and aerial targets with equal effectiveness.
.
..................................

aerial targets could be drones, helicopter, aircraft e.t.c so I'll wait till the manufacturers. announce that they have successful hit a missile with their guns.

.

AND BY THE WAY OUR SHIPS ARE ARMED WITH CHINESE COPY
Dude, go on YouTube and watch the oto. Malera engaging missiles with unguided shells.

Moreover your analysis is just good on paper. In a theory manner it doesn't make any sense.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by tdayof(m): 2:05pm On Sep 01, 2017
lionel4power:
This is a GUIDED shell... so its more of a close In weapon than a shell in theoretical sense..
Why did you edit the post?

For example, engaging a low flying missile with unguided 76 mm shells would need around 15-20 rounds to be fired at the target whereas only 4-5 guided shells would be needed to do the same job
.

modern anti ship missiles dont fly in a straight line... you need to watch how countries fire its missiles maybe on youtube or elsewhere because if you do then you'll understand my point.

it is brutal!!!

you naked eyes cant track a mach 3 missile. talkless of a large gun like a 76.

in theory a 76 can only manage to take down anything flying if it lay down an explosive shells,in the path of the oncoming target.

but that depends on the type of missile ( ancients subsonic ones)
You don't need a machine 1 anti ship missile to kill a missile flying at mach 1 billion. I hope you know?
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by tdayof(m): 1:38pm On Sep 01, 2017
This is the most popular medium caliber gun in the world due to the excellent balance of range, firepower and rate of fire offered by most 76 mm guns. The Italian Oto Melara rules this category and has almost no competition. There are several other guns like the Russian Ak-176, Chinese Ak-176 (reverse engineered) which are also used. The best part about the 76 mm Oto is that it can be installed on small corvettes with ease, providing them with a significant amount of firepower. The high rate of fire of 120 rds/min and the range of 15 km provided by the Oto Melara SRGM makes it the perfect dual-role weapon which can engage surface and aerial targets with equal effectiveness.

STRALES variant of the 76 mm Oto

The more modern variant of the 76 mm Oto is the STRALES version with an integrated fire-control illuminating radar and advanced DART guided ammunition which rides on the radar beam. This allows the gun to engage a fast moving target using only a few shells, which will hit the target with precision. Guided shells allow the target to be successfully engaged with fewer rounds of ammunition. For example, engaging a low flying missile with unguided 76 mm shells would need around 15-20 rounds to be fired at the target whereas only 4-5 guided shells would be needed to do the same job.
The main disadvantage is that guided shells are usually significantly more expensive than unguided ones. Hence a mixture of guided and unguided shells are usually preferred, with guided shells used against high-threat targets and unguided shells used against low-threat ones.

in theory... but that probably manufacturers claim because the amounts of computational capability needed to track a supersonic maneuvering and small projectiles like a missiles is mind boggling. The algorithms would be astronomical.

.
its difficult hitting a missile with another missile not to talk of a large gun with a remarkably slower rate of fire or RPM like a 76 mm.

Its a next to nothing probability of success. thats why close-in weapon systems were invented with higher RPM and smaller caliber.

before the gun turret turn once the missiles would have probably turn 16 times..
Hahahahaha are you being serious nowhuh?? grin undecided

Bro, you type in a paper like description. Because it's NIGERIA you're doubting fact even when you see it.

NNS unity and centenary are armed for anti air warfare.

The AK-176 is a Soviet naval gun mounted in an enclosed turret, that may be used against sea, coastal, and aerial targets, including low flying anti-ship missiles.

Uhm..........Your OPVs don't have Strales system or DART ammo so how are they going to shoot down a missile?? even if they did, it would still be much less effective than a proper CIWS.
THE Nigerian navy ship NNS unity and centenary are armed for anti air warfare says the CNS.

Those ships are armed with AK-176 which is the Chinese version of the oto malera version with strales system.

How can A 76mm naval gun destroy an incoming missile please explain I'll love to learn new wonderful things today...
OTO MELERA has been used to intercept incoming missiles. You can check videos on YouTube.

76MM are being used for anti air warfare. Nemesis4u kindly explain.

There are actually videos on YouTube showing this.

You all should calm down.

It's no news that the Nigerian navy is good but lacks the ability to launch an offensive against a well equipped navy like SA, Morocco, Egypt and Algeria.

We're only living in the past glory and capability of the Nigerian Navy. The only good thing now is that by the time we decide to procure frigates and corvettes and missile boats, we will have a very formidable larger fleet with our existing fleet. That's just the advantage . How many African countries has a very great list of OPV. NNS unity, NNS CENTENARY, NNS THUNDER, and many more.

That SSV, from Indonesia and we getting at least two corvettes and a frigates with some two more missile boats then we will be really formidable.

Our OPV can just destroy incoming missiles with their 76mm.

So a submarine + 1-3 frigate + 2 well armed corvette and missile boats + rearming our combatant class. Then we will be strong enough.

In terms of man power, our naval guys are good but they seriously lack those naval toys.

what do we need it for?

What war is Nigeria fighting?
Or you think assault submarine is owned just for luxury?

How many developed countries have assault submarine?
All submarine are offensive. So any military grade submarine has an assault capability.

The question here now should be how many developed countries field submarines?

The Nigerian navy however has plans to field submarine and the Nigerian navy already requested for $300 million to purchase one.

Yea... I'll have preferred the NAF go for medium weight fighters
like the F16. MiG35 or others.

The JF 17 is a light fighter, (too light for a light fighter) it will always try to approach the capabilities of the F16 but will never reach or match it.

.
its in the same class with the Tejas, F-50 golden eagle and gripen. (fvking T50 and Tejas).

.
anyways the F16 can always be upgraded technology-wise but my main concern would be the structural integrity considering that those jets were commisioned In the 80's.

.
The Tucano is the best fighter we can get from the west. They'll never sell to us f16, f15 etc and if we're to look at gripen, typhoon etc, they're just too expensive.

We can get aircraft with matching capabilities from the Russians and Chinese.

I want to see a J10 in the nigerian Air Force or a flanker.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by tdayof(m): 7:03pm On Aug 31, 2017
You all should know invading another country isn't all about dropping bombs. Give the republic or Gambia 500 su35 and and 2000 eurofighter typhoon. Successfully Invading Russia will still be almost impossible.

Imagine something like the krashuka-4 waiting for you, s400 and other electronic warfare components trust me they'll end up loosing.

All your bombs, missiles will be faced with missiles from s400 while another unit of s400 is tasked at laughing on the aircrafts.

In Africa, it's only "we we" that our technology can serve.

Smart guy have you had of the Al Tariq guided bomb?

.
Standard range is 40 kilometres but increases to 120 kilometres with a folding wing kit but the extended range version with a rocket motor has a range of over 200 kilometres. The system can be fitted with a proximity fuse.

.
with such specification South African should have invaded Britain by now since the balance of power has clearly shifted worldwide. cheesy
That bomb will be knocked off by interception before entering the British airspace
