Congrats.

1. Try and confirm if DHL would even accept cross-border shipment of passport to and from Nigeria.

2. You can send the new passport and a letter of explanation to VFS. In the meantime, try and upload the new passport via webform and attach a letter of explanation.

3. Yes, it is possible. But since you probably have about 30 days, I would advise you contact IRCC via webform informing that them that you plan to submit your passport in Nigeria. You can also contact VFS Nigeria for further confirmation.

FleppyDon:
. Hi people ,
I have a quick question about Canada visa application.

I applied from inside the UK with my passport.
Upon Travelling to Nigeria, the passport got missing. I have renewed it.
Now, they said I should send passport.

1. Please, can I send it directly with DHL to the Embassy in London straight or I should send to my friend who will then send it
2. Can I send the new passport and do I need to attach anything to it.
3. Is it possible to send it ti the VAC here in Nigeria

Hope it won't affect the decision made.

Medical requests will come in when the visa officer processes your eligibility (currently, that can take up to 7 weeks on average). But you can book the medical now and do it upfront so that you don't travel twice.

ndego1993:
Please someone should help me out here. I submitted my application for the student visa yesterday and got the biometrics request almost immediately. I still haven't gotten the request for medicals and would have loved to book both appointments on the same day since I do not live in Abuja or Lagos.

Please how long after the visa application submission should I expect the medicals request?

Lol. I had to go through your profile and read your past posts. Then I realized you are probably suffering from 'visa-refusal' trauma since August last year. The bitterness in your replies to many people on here is from another world. You process posts with your anus, not with your brain. My initial discussion was on processing time, not approval rate. Oga, go and rest.

The portal used doesn't affect approval rate.

I would advise GCKey (old portal) as it allows you to attach more documents (greater size limit).

Please I would like to know between the Old Portal and New Ircc version which is better to apply on? I used the New Ircc portal but I heard they reject people a lot.. Can someone advice please..
Travel / Re: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by technix: 9:40pm On Feb 13
I was talking based on experience over time and facts from IRCC website. Also to correct the notion that the US travel history accelerated the application processing time.

Here are the screenshots of the two applications if that will clear your doubts.

It's largely a matter of luck. It takes 6 months to process 80% of applications. So, some would be faster and some slower than the 6 months. I did visiting visa applications for two people recently. The first person (who had never travelled before) was approved in 2 weeks, and the second (who had travelled to Saudi Arabia) in 4 months.

Congratulations! But there’s something I don’t understand…how was it that you got a response in a very short period of time. I also applied this year Jan 10th. Did you not apply in Nigeria? Please enlighten me how this application process works, thanks and congratulations once again!

Yes. You can defer you admission. You may have to renew your study permit/visa at some point in Canada before you complete your studies. Compare your new program completion date with the length of validity on your approved visa.

You just need to apply for visitor visa, study permit or work permit for them (depending on what they qualify for). Then include your visa stamp/study permit with their application. If you are applying before coming to Canada, (i) you may want to explain in their LOE why you didn't submit their application with yours. (ii) If your spouse is qualified for open work permit, the work permit application might be rejected and deemed ineligible (depending on the visa officer) because you haven't started studying. But visitor visa application for her would be fine even while you are still in Nigeria.

Hello everyone
Please help
After study permit approved, can i defer my admission to September from May?
Hope it wont affect anything?
Also, if I want to have my wife and children on my study permit, what do I do?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 1:08pm On Feb 10
Yes, he will be exempted except if he needs to do co-op in some fields such as healthcare.

No, police character is not needed for study permit except if he has a prior criminal record.

Viewoliver:
The application is for temporary residence (study permit). I was thinking if one reside in some countries like UK for more than 6 months, one will be exempted from medicals.

Does a UK residence require Police Character Certificate for study permit application?
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 9:48am On Feb 10
It depends on which type of application.

If it's for temporary residence such as study permit, then another biometric is not needed. But he needs a new medical exam. If there is enough time, he can just wait till he is invited to do the medical exam (he doesn't have to do it upfront).

Viewoliver:
Please I need clarity here.
Biometric and medical were done in Nigeria in 2021 but the study permit was refused. Currently not in Nigeria, does he need another biometric and medical to submit an application?

In my opinion, the challenge here is not even the MSc, but your undergrad. Doing power engr tech after a BSc in elect/elect does not show a progression in studies. Most of what you will learn during a power engr tech would have been learnt during your BSc (even more so, with power systems option).

That being said, it's easier to justify doing a diploma after your MSc in control systems. For example, you could claim you want to apply control systems theory to power systems modelling; and before modelling any system, one needs to sufficiently understand how it works. You can then link that back to our power systems challenges in Nigeria, grid instability, controlling smart grids, etc.

Once again, the main hurdle I see here is your previous BSc. Try and see if the diploma would bring you significantly different knowledge (I would advise against mentioning practical skills as the main reason) . Best of luck!

Viewoliver:
Hello everyone!

Firstly, please I would like to know if it's possible to secure a study permit to Canada for 2 years diploma program after one has completed a masters program in the UK. I did MSc Automation and Control and the delivery didn't meets my carrier objectives because it was more theoretical than I expected. I like hands-on skills and the college in Canada offers that with internship term for practical and industrial experience. I have already received LOA from college to study Power Engineering Technology, first year fees all paid and I am currently waiting for PAL to be issued so that I can proceed on visa application. My first degree back in Nigeria was in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power System Engineering Option). Please I need some valid points for my SOP to be convincing enough to secure me a study permit. I know some people might say I should not declare my masters to the visa officer but I have done that already to the college while applying for admission. I think the visa officer might be asking what brought me to the UK because I am still there on my post study work visa. I am open to good ideas and suggestions on how to convince the visa officer that my study plans are genuine. Thank you!

No worries at all. The way they worded the new rules can be confusing.

Kids are no longer eligible for what? Open work permit, study permit or visitor visa? The ineligibility only applies to OWP.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/changes-open-work-permits-family-members-temporary-residents.html

Predator188:

This is where you missed it.......
They blocked 🚫 kids as dependents on tempoary foreign workers application kids are no longer eligible and pgwp is a temporary foreign worker program and this is the confusion and how it may effect international students..applying for new work permit.

Lol. Your hands are itchy. From question about kids to policy change to OWP.

I haven't done a detailed job? Interesting assumption. Guy, I am in Canada and I follow immigration updates.

It's very simple, post a link to a recent policy that affects the kids of international students while studying. If you can't, just move on abeg.

Jeboy:
Baba leave am, he hasn't done detailed job on the recent change.

Even peeps that use immigration consultants to process their application do get refused talk less of others. Canada has changed a lot. To get sowp with pgwp will be difficult now with the new policy.

Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 9:05pm On Jan 31
The questioner asked about their kids while studying. Doesn't have anything to do with spouse.

Predator188:

The children may receive a hit on pgwp application as dependents. The rules is somehow for foreign workers.
Applying for pgwp without teer 0, 1, 2 and 3 jobs in labour shortage occupation, the spouse will not be eligible for OWP.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 9:48am On Jan 31
Lol. You should have asked if I have done that or at least, refer to a particular policy that has affected what I said. And saying "don't be too quick" is rather condescending. The recent changes do not apply to children of international students.

Jeboy:
You have to look at the reviewed immigration requirements for foreign students and children dependent. A lot has changed in Canadian immigration polices recently. Don't be too quick to refer to others that may have qualifued based on pre January 21st immigration policy.

Ideally, 1 to 2 weeks. But one cannot predict now because new PAL allocations for 2025 were just announced few days ago. You can just prepare your application while you wait for PAL so that you submit your application as soon as you get it.

Kaykaychizzy:
Good morning House and I appreciate the responses and advice from the experienced personnel's here.
I requested for a new PAL on the 23rd of January, 2025 because the old one expired on the 21st, as I'm ready to submit my application for visa and I'm for 5th of May intake in Fanshawe College Ontario. I wanted to ask if anyone knows (from experience) how long it's likely to take to get a new PAL and also, if I'm good to go for the May intake as I'm waiting for the new PAL.

On the visa form, just put N/A in the school details. On the application portal, you can upload the parent's admission letter for them. You don't need to scout for school for them, it's an open study permit.

Hi, you will remove what you already paid. But submit your tuition receipt with your application.

So, you demonstrate 10K + 20.6 K + miscellaneous.

Do I demonstrate a balance of 10k cad + 20,635 living expenses?

Or

20,000 Cad + 20,635 living expenses

despite paying half of it already.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 9:36pm On Mar 30, 2024
Yes, you can submit your visa application with this type of conditional offer.

It's not compulsory to pay tuition deposit in this case. But paying can facilitate a positive visa outcome.

Muslimity:

Thanks @JMG12,

As a matter of fact, my admission offer has only one condition which is to have UNILAG submit my undergraduate official transcript to them (the DLI) before August 1st, 2024.

My admission offer from the DLI has a particular page specifically addressed to IRCC and titled "Letter of Acceptance".

In this Letter of Acceptance, there is a column as follows: "Fees prepaid: Yes or No", and the DLI checked "No".

I am tempted to understand this to mean that tuition deposit is not a requirement by the DLI. I came to this conclusion because there is absolutely no mention of tuition deposit in the admission offer, nor on their website. And throughout the period I was seeking this admission with the DLI, all the school (DLI) have to say is that tuition must be paid before September 1st.

Can I bank on this and go ahead to submit my visa application with IRCC? Or paying some part of the tuition can positively affect the decision outcome of my visa application?

I need your experienced advice, please.
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by technix: 5:09am On Jan 16, 2024
Hi,

It's fine. The test results would have been sent. IRCC always sends that follow-up message once a sputum test is required. However, IOM already knew in advance, that was why they did the sputum test even before IRCC sent the message.

dollext:
Dear Nairalanders, I submitted my application on December 11th, 2023 with upfront medicals. (Though i did a spot-um test after which i went for post spotum Xtray) I got a request from IRCC today that my medical has been received and another information is required that i should go deir with d request letter.
My concern: Does it mean the Spotum result was not send or am i to do a fresh medicals? Though i will be there 2mr coz i was given 30days to do that.
