TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
The POF should cover at least a year tuition and living expense.

Put the fee for the total duration. Mention the annual tuition in your LOE and explain how you have covered it.

The POF balance should cover the tuition for a year, but the VO should be convinced that you can pay for subsequent years (e.g. employment status, company income, etc.).

Subtract the first semester fee from the total annual tuition fee. Add the balance to the 1 year living expense (your POF should cover that). Explain this in your LOE too.

kweje:
Hello House, please

For someone going for a 4year University Bsc program and fees is 18,100 Cad, a year. How much should be shown on POF? I know the rule says 1yr tuition & living expense, but the new portal asks for total duration fees.

So what should be Nigerian bank balance on POF. 4yrs tuition or the IRCC rule of 1yr?

Note, 1st semester fees already paid even though the school does not ask for deposit.

I assume you are studying outside Quebec. If so, the minimum amount of fund for living expenses alone is 20,000CAD. That is, 10,000 for you, 4,000 for your spouse, and 3,000 each for the kids.

Marike2:
Pls what is the estimated budget for a family of 4? 1 principal applicant for study permit, spouse and 2 kids?
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix:
Hi,

I will advise you apply together. It doesn't decrease your chance of approval given the home ties you have. If you apply first, you may have to wait some months before applying for him, which is not cool for a new couple. But please attach any other proof of marriage you have, in addition to the certificate. You can also add other proofs or explanation to show that you have been in a serious relationship for a while.

Best of luck.

**I am also attaching a tip from McGill.

MrsOO:
All the gurus in the house. Thank you so much for all you do.

Please I am about to submit my application for my study, However, I'd like to add my husband's SOWP application together with my application. So we can move together.

As the applicant, I am a social worker and going for Masters in Social Work, So for my home ties, I have an approved government NGO with a shelter for homeless women and my siblings, retired mother, hubby owns a farm, etc..

Please I don't know if it's wise to apply together..Really, I just want to focus on my studies without the whole emotional trauma that comes with couples being apart, the time difference ish plus the thought of leaving my baby (Ngo) for a while is killing enough.

I don't know if it's a wise decision to apply together, as I don't have any intention of using him as my home ties, My ngo is strong enough reasons and my family I believe if we'll package.

In between, Our marriage is barely a month old but we've been together for close to 7 years and we are both over 34 years with no kids.

Kindly advise.

No timeline is specified. But the rule says one must be ACTIVELY studying.

This means that one should be enrolled, and one should be able to demonstrate that one is making reasonable progress toward the completion of one's courses in the time allotted by the program.

Changing after a semester is fine. But changing after one or two weeks (I haven't seen anyone) may require a convincing explanation, especially with respect to demonstrating progress.

**Anyone who has seen a change of DLI after a few weeks can mention.

Ruby22:
Could you kindly explain how soon one can change schools inside Canada after enrollment. Does it have a timeline? Does the student have to be studying for a week, 2 weeks or fir how long. I will appreciate help with this from the gurus.
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 2:19am On Mar 12, 2022
You don't need to have 10m for 4-6 months. The 4-6 month statement is to allow the VO understand your cash flow.

Let's assume the required amount by IRCC is 12m, you only need to have this 12m by the time you submit your statement of account. It doesn't matter if you had just 6m a month before.

If you sell the asset, please try to get a proof that you sold it (e.g. receipt, transfer of ownership, etc.). Then attach the evidence, and explain in your LOE that the lump sum came from the sale of your asset.

aforosco:
Pls I want to enquire about study permit. If i got offer from Canada sch. Can i tell someone to fund my account with 10m and use it to apply for Visa as POF. I currently have 2m.No offer yet but i intend to sell an asset if offer comes for 10m.Would I be refused Visa because I don't have the 10m for 4-6 months?
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix:
1. No official limit. But in general, for study permit application, I will say 1.5 to 2 pages of explanation, and other pages for list of documents.

But it could be more because:
a. Not everyone can write succintly.
b. One might have many things to explain.

I generally advise that, once the LOE is more than 2 pages, one should put the paragraphs under headings such as purpose of visit, financial status, home ties, etc. Also, one should highlight important points (in bold font) to make them easier for the VO to see.

2. One of her parents should sign for her.

** For the SOWP applications I have done, I never went beyond 1 page, and they were all approved.

Somidotun5:
Good afternoon everyone,
Please the SOP should be like how many pages? Is 5 pages too much?

Also, when using the new portal, at the end of the application, should the 16 year old applicant sign by herself or one of her parent should sign for her?

Please I await your replies.

Yes, you can change your institution by sending the new letter of acceptance via webform before the study permit is approved.

But if the permit is approved already, it's better you wait and enrol at your initial institution, then change your institution after enrolment.

If your permit is approved already and you change institution while in Nigeria without planning to enrol at your initial institution, then you need to submit a new study permit application.

Hii.. Can I change institution before the approval of a study permit?

Hi, it is generally advisable to avoid traveling earlier than 4 weeks before school starts. If you want to travel 3 months earlier, you should have a convincing explanation for the border officer (he may allow you in or turn you back).

Enrolment letter is no longer needed. But hold your letter of acceptance. It shouldn't be difficult printing your enrolment letter from your university portal though.

Aissy:
Good evening everyone
Please can I travel three months before school starts?
Do I still need an enrollment letter?

If one applies for SOWP, his passport will be stamped to allow him enter Canada (visa), and he will get his SOWP at the port of entry.

One the other hand, if one applies for visitor visa, his passport will be stamped to allow him enter Canada (visa), and he will get a visitor record at the port of entry.

adelforreal:
Hello House,

I need some clarification here.

If one applies for SOWP with spouse at the same time she is putting in an application for study permit, is it true that he will first be given a visitor's visa from the home country once it's approved while the SOWP will be obtained after arrival in Canada.

Kindly clarify as my spouse just got accepted for a course in manitoba and we are about to apply for visa.

Hi,

Since they are US citizens, I will advise you wait till they get to the port of entry, and they can just get their visitor record (that can be used to study). And if you still want study permit for them, you can apply at the port of entry too.

aykanbi:

Hi,

Yes, his company and landed properties can be used to demonstrate home ties.

He doesn't have to bother about leave of absence.

Iffylove:
Hello everyone,
My spouse is putting in for his sowp application. He could not have access to leave of absence from his place of work, can other documents such as study leave from my own place of work, documents of a functioning registered company which he owns and runs, extended family, and landed properties be used instead?
Thank you
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 21 by technix: 2:25am On Mar 09, 2022
Hi,

His visa may not be ready before you travel.

I think what you should consider is: if his visa is not ready before you travel, can you leave him behind or not?

If you can leave him behind, then I will advise you wait. If you can't, then you can apply for him now. But you will have to convincingly explain why you changed your mind (through webform and his LOE), because you have earlier mentioned that he is not accompanying you (I assume).

Also, even if your visa is approved tomorrow and you want to apply for him immediately after, you still have to convince the VO about why you are applying immediately since you had mentioned he is not accompanying you.

Drops:
Please I need some advice. I applied for study visa in December, eligibility review started Jan 31 but nothing yet after that. I want to go with my son but I was waiting for the study visa before applying for him. School starts in May and I am afraid I may not have time to apply for him and get the visa by beginning of May. Do you advice that I apply for him now or still wait till my study visa arrives before applying for him?

Hi,

You don't need your O'level results for visa application for master's studies (especially if you completed your high school more than 10 years ago). Your BSc certificate is fine.

chuksnoris:
hello guys, pls can 2 sittings olevel results be accepted for masters visa applicationhuh
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix:
I can't say how long specifically. It depends on each case, what statements the student made in LOE, and how convincing the spouse's LOE is (change of plans, etc.)

But in general, 4 to 6 months after arrival should be fine. One will have completed a semester. (This is just my personal opinion based on experience).

***Really, if one intends to bring one's family immediately after approval in the first place, the best is to apply together if one has enough funds, it simplifies the whole process (my university advises this too).

TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 12:55pm On Mar 08, 2022
Hi Ayomidess,

I am so sorry about your rejection. It happens, don't feel too sad. It will end in praise!

These are the reasons listed:
1. When your husband wrote his LOE for study permit, he probably made a strong statement that he was leaving his family behind. Yet, you applied for SOWP shortly after his study permit was approved.

2. It seems you had more than one application. If yes, that also raised suspicion.

3. It also seems you have other family members in Canada apart from your husband. If yes, that further reduced your ties to Nigeria.

I would advise you address each of the the points listed. Read through your husband's LOE carefully. Explain why you changed plans to immediately join your husband even though he mentioned you were not going to accompany him. That can also help you to defend the reason for multiple applications (if you had). As for family ties, do you have parents, siblings, landed properties? If yes, include them. If no, you can talk about the ties your husband has with Nigeria.

I hope this helps. If you need further guidance or document review, you can DM me or email scholarmonde[at]gmail.com.

*** By the way, I was just talking about a case like this few days ago on this thread, that strong statements about home ties by a principal applicant could affect spouse's application, if done shortly after study permit approval. Interestingly, in most of the SOWP applications I have helped people with, I didn't include statements about home ties for the spouse, and the applications get approved (because they were not done immediately after study permit approval). And yes, SOWP applications can be made on family reasons (emotional support, dual parental care for child, etc.). In fact, all the SOWP LOEs I have written were based on family reasons, and the applications were accepted; I never mentioned economic or employment reasons. Of course, I will write an LOE based on individual applicant's case.

Ayomidesss:
Good morning all.

My SOWP application was rejected last month...so sad after 6 month of waiting. I applied for GCMS notes and got this reply.

Gurus in the house, please assist. I'm missing my husband.

Yes, it's necessary. That is the form that will allow your passport get stamped so you can enter Canada.

Hi,

Your study permit will be processed as if you applied from Nigeria (same processing time). So, even while you are in Canada as a visitor, you can't study until your study permit is approved.

There are exceptions to the above though; please check this in case you fit into one of them (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-2002-227/section-215.html)

If you don't fit into the exceptions, I would advise you talk to an academic advisor in your college.

1. YES, it's more or less the last stage. Except if something extremely unusual happens.

A. One can't be sure, but it's usually fast. I would say an average of 2-3 weeks.

B. Try see if he can get an earlier appointment with another clinic or swap appointment date with someone. If not, he can defer to allow him plan well and resume study with ease. He will just need a new admission letter and won't have to inform IRCC.

You can also ask the school about the last date for deferral, and plan according to that.

He’s admission is for May 22 intake.
Did Online application (not sure if old/new site)12 feb 22 ✅
Did Biometric 19 feb 22 ✅

He got a medical request letter on 5 March 22.
Eligibility review showing “checking 4 eligibility”.
He was able to get a medical date for 29 March.

Please, my questions are:
1) With d medical request, is he likely to get PPR? (If passed)
IF YES,
A) is there any time frame 4 PPR after medicals?
B) with session due to start early May, can he make it or seek for deferral?

Finally, what’s the next step/advice from this point? Thank y’ll and God bless

Ideally, IRCC should send a new medical request.

Hi,

I understand the confusion our online inventors created. A single letter that addresses what you need to tell the VO is enough. Just add the necessary items you would have in a normal letter, like salutation, etc.

By the way, the official website calls it LOE, whether it's a first-time application or 100th.

That's why I said 'extremely' strong statement.

If she made a strong statement about her family staying back, I would advise she gets to Canada first before applying for them.

I can't remember vividly where I read the case of someone whose SOWP was rejected because the application was done immediately after the student arrived Canada. The VO claimed that the student's LOE stated the family is staying back or something.

I am not saying this would always be the case. It might be easier to justify the change of plans, such as already missing family, etc., if the SOWP application is done after arriving Canada.

DamilareOla:
What will happen if an applicant did mention that in the LOE?

I believe Family staying back help proof ties to back home.

Plus plans do change. Family unification is equally a priority for Canada.
