I am asking this question on behalf of my niece. She studied International Economics and Trade at the Shanghai University of Political Science and Law with a GPA of 3.21. It depends on your tuition fees and province of study. If you are outside Quebec, show funds for 1-year tuition and annual living expense of 10,000CAD (plus about 3,000CAD if possible). If your program is more than a year, show that you can afford the tuition and living expense for subsequent years without working (e.g., through a sponsor, direct fund, paid leave, rental income, etc.). You should use your personal account since your dad's account is recent and you will require at least a four-month statement for him. You can transfer funds from his account to yours. timmyrexak: Please gurus here, I need help, like how much should be in account for visa, I have some funds in my personal account over six months, can I use personal account or I use my dad's own (tho, I just open account for him) I'm going for October intake |

Yes, you can submit your application from the UK, the processing time should be faster. But show home ties. I have 3 people (including 2 friends) that submitted from Saudi Arabia while they were PhD students there, and the applications were approved. They came to restart their PhD in Canada. But an advantage of applying from Nigeria is that, you can claim that you returned to Nigeria immediately after your study in the UK and you will do the same after your study in Canada. Just weigh the options. Beeman3000: Hello guys, I'm currently doing my masters in UK. I'd like to apply for another masters degree in Canada when I'm done here in September. Can one let me know what the process is, can I apply and submit my application from the uk or need to come back to naija? Thanks |

You can reapply for a spousal open work if you have a valid job offer as the PGWP holder, check C41 exemption. In other case, if your spouse is employed, she may get an employer-specific work permit too. Predator188: you can not renew SOWP even after student apply for PGWP...spouse on open work permit may be eligible for another type of work permit! |

Hi shams040, Thanks for taking the time to share your note. If you don't mind, can you send your LOE privately to me, I can offer some advice. Normally, travel history issues pop as a consequence of other things, not as a principal reason for rejection; that's why it came last. Also, personal assets naturally comes with financial status, so the main reason is often not the lack of assets, but inadequate finance. Again, don't give up. PS: Nigerian applicants face more scrutiny due to our antecedents. shams040: I got my GCMS for the first one but still waiting for the second.
So for the first application we had a total of 10k cad from all sources in our account with me as the sponsor.
For the second app, we got 16k in our account with me as the major sponsor. We show employment letter as a quality control scientist in a bottling company.
I attached our rejection and GCMS:
1st pics-first rejection Dec 07 2nd pic -GCMS to the first rejection. I did a rebutter for this in addition to the SOP from both of us. I argued that traveling is based on necessity and my spouse never need to travel since we are young graduates and she couldn't join . Also, in the rebbuter I argued that we are young and don't have property aside from the land we inherited from her mom as the firstborn (Name not changed yet). The last one I changed the duration to 10days to help with my PhD qualifying exam.
3rd pics- 2nd rejection April 20th. |

Normally, it has always been the saner choice. Many Canadian schools advice student and family to apply together. ThekayBature: That is what I am advising persons now. It isn't an easy choice but it somehow feels like the saner choice. |

Hi, Sorry to hear about this. As a PhD student, your spouse's application should be comparatively smooth, except if some things are missing. Did you get to see the GCMS notes for the rejected VV applications to further understand the reasons? shams040: Currently at a point of dropping this PhD in Canada. Applied for SOWP since Oct nothing nothing. Applied for VV twice they got rejected. Really tired and seems Canada is trying to frustrate young married people from Nigeria. |

Pretty easy. Assuming you finished your BSc in May 2021 and started NYSC in August 2021. Then your employment status starts from June 2021. From June to July, put unemployed. For example, if you finished your BSc two months ago, then your employment details (unemployed) start from the following month. Trailblazer21: Thank you for your response sir. Hi, congrats on your admission. If your PhD funding covers your tuition fee and living expenses (with an excess of 2K and above), you can submit the funding letter alone. If possible, apart from the letter from your supervisor, get a letter from your department that states the tuition and stipend amount simultaneously. If not, you can combine the funding letter and your personal bank statement. In any case, please explain clearly in your LOE how your POF covers your annual tuition and living expenses. Best of luck. ade279: URGENT INQUIRY!
Hello everyone! First time here... I gained admission for my Ph.D. at the University of Manitoba and it's going to be fully funded by my Ph.D. supervisor. My issue is about the proof of funds. The thing is, I am planning to apply for my study permit through the NSE route. Do I need to submit the 'My Bank Certificate' statement, or is the proof of funds my supervisor would provide sufficient?

Merely paying part of the tuition fee doesn't 'necessarily' boost your chances of approval. You are mainly required to show that the overall fund is readily available and to address lump sum. If your school doesn't require a tuition deposit, I won't advise paying deposit. Iamgrac: Good afternoon everyone,
Is it advisable to pay 10,000cad out of a tution fee of 33,000 cad The reason I want to pay the tution fee, is the fear of being refused based on financial capability |

Due to VO's discretion, I will advise he writes a letter to state his financial support for your study and stay (especially if his money is more substantial). He may as well use the letter to further emphasize why he wants to travel with you, talk about his employment, personal home ties, etc. Chubbyface: If I want to go with my spouse and 2months old baby, does he need to write a letter of sponsorship for me? Eeya. So sorry about this. It seems that you compressed your spouse's statement of account, and that rendered it illegible. The other reason is just a consequence of the above. You just need to reapply with a clear statement of account, and emphasise your employment prospects in Nigeria after your studies. efizyhenchmen: Dear Friends, Please attached are the concerns of the VO over my application. You can do any of the two, depending on your writing style. But either way, you will have to place much more emphasis on the previous refusal reasons, e.g., emphasise home ties. Already, in my opinion, there is more burden of proving home ties for VV than for SOWP. Sleekcee: Hello people, Please when denied a SOWP visa and you decide to apply for a visit visa for spouse n kids instead of reapplying for SOWP, do you need to state and address the reasons for the refusal of the SOWP in your LOE for VV? NB: Refusal reason was majorly hometies. Do we just apply for vv and state all things normally including ties, pof or do we explicitly mention the refusal for SOWP? Please I need clarification. |

Hi, Generally, you don't need study permit for training or courses less than 6 months. Even if it's more than 6 months, one can still do some training or courses with SOWP, e.g., Quebec French language course, which lasts for more than a year. I believe if a study permit is needed for a training, you will be advised. Ideally, you won't be allowed to register for such training without a study permit. Akannitommy: Hi all,
I have some related questions about SOWP and the condition that says - "Unless authorized, prohibited from attending any educational institution, or taking any academic, professional or vocational training course".
Does anyone know if there is any way to interpret this condition or is it a "NO, NO" whether in-person vs. remote training or short vs. long term training course for work in Canada?
Specifically, does this condition affect the common health care (PAB/PSW/CPR) training required for popular health care support work?
Does anyone have direct experience with this matter especially the implications on future applications for PR or permit extensions?
Thanks. |

Hi, 1. Canada rarely conducts interview; so, you don't have to bother about possible clash of dates. 2. If Canada asks for your passport, then you don't need to attend UK interview, lol. A passport request by Canada is 99.999% visa approval. 3. Let's say 2 weeks on average. But I don't think you will have to bother about it. 4. I don't know of any threshold. But if you are concerned about the size of the gift, your aunt can include a letter of support. 5. GIC means guaranteed investment certificate. It can be used as a proof of fund and to show that the fund is readily available. It's offered by Canadian banks, and has a guaranteed rate of return for a fixed period of time. The money is partly released to you once you arrive in Canada, and the remaining is released over some months (periodically). 6. If you are capable, self-sponsorship is better. eniola1010: Weldone guys. You are doing tremendous work. I have been reading the thread. I am on page 60.
Firstly, i am processing canada and uk school at the same time cus i dont wanna put all egg in a basket. Both schools resume fall 2022. Which is sept. Lets assume i have been admitted to both uk and canada. Tho canada is my preferred.
Wont i enter a dilemma, such that, i might go and have a clashing visa interview date for the uk and canada. And if per adventure i dont even have a clashing visa interview date. What if the dates are just 3weeks apart.
Remember that let assume its the canada visa interview date that comes first. Remember they will ask for my passport. And what if the canada folks have not returned the passport and the uk folks visa interview is nigh, what will someone do in such case?
How many weeks does it take the canadian guys to return ur passport after ppr?
Secondly, i want to ask if there is a threshold for feigning gift deeds? What i mean is. If my aunty perhaps sends me 10million naira. Can such robust and bogus figure be claimed under gift deeds? Wont it seem absurd?
Thirdly, as I kept reading the thread, people kept saying gic. Can someone explain to us what this gic is and why lot of people are recommending it?
Fourthly, is it better for one to be self sponsored or to be sponsored by someone cus it looks like being sponsored by someone gets the result most times according to the statistics of people who have gotten ppr on the thread, most of them are sponsored by someone. |

You can use the C of O, land survey, valuation report, etc. But I don't think you will use parents' landed property as home ties, since the property doesn't necessarily belong to you. Parents themselves are sufficient as hometies though. But if you are sponsored by your parents, then the landed property can be a proof of their assets. kiari: Hello Everyone, for those who used their parents landed properties to show proof of home ties, what kind of document did you submit? Not necessarily. Although dual intent is allowed, one still needs to prove that one will return home even if the PR is still under processing. It used to be a problem, until IRCC made the guideline clear. As for multiple applications, a VO may just see it as a desperate move for an applicant whose application is already shaky. But really, it's not a big deal. If a visitor visa is approved, the work permit application will still be running. If a work permit application is approved, the visitor visa may be asked to be withdrawn (which is nothing negative except the 'lost' application fee). jogojogo: Thanks so much for the response Was thinking that's it's worse when dual intent is shown rather than multiple applications with same intent |

Ideally, if one changes school after a study permit has been approved, one has to reapply for another study permit. But in this case, you didn't receive any approval email, and I assume that your application portal was not updated also. I will advise that you raise a webform, explain the situation and attach the new letter of acceptance. Perhaps, they will update it. And if they don't, you should apply for another study permit. opezi: Good day everyone
My sister applied for a student visa in may 2021 as a high school student but she lost the admission because the visa was not granted by the schools resumption time so we all didnt stress over the application but kept checking for any updates since she was already in ss3 and doing her waec. After waec results were released in December we immediately applied into memorial university in Canada which she has gotten an admission into now but because she already had a previous visa application in progress we wanted to confirm the status of that application so that we'll know if we are to send an updated letter of acceptance or withdraw the old application and restart a new one as it has been almost a year with no response.
So we request for a GCMS note which was received today just for it to show that she has been granted visa since October first 2021 with no mail received. We are confused on the next step to take now. All advice given will be appreciated.
NB: No agent was used throughout this application process... it was all done ourselves. |
