The Nigeria army on Monday said some of its officers are plotting to distract the fight against insurgency, which “is at a critical stage”. According to Sani Usman, army spokesman, some officers in collaboration with unnamed individuals, have scheduled December to begin a media onslaught against the army. He alleged that there was a deliberate plot to ridicule leadership of the force through lies and fabrication. Appealing to the media to ensure that reports are verified before being published, Usman said: “Our doors are open for clarification, inquiries and reactions on any issue concerning the Nigeria army before filing or publishing such stories”. “The Nigeria army has received report of some elements both within the army and outside, especially through the use of the social media circle, to ridicule the Nigerian army and the person of the chief of army staff for reasons best known to them,” the statement read. “They intend to execute this plan as from next month, December 2015, using all means possible; lies, fabricating baseless stories, falsehood, publishing and broadcasting them through some designated print and electronic media, most especially the social media. “The Nigerian army has identified some of the officers involved and their collaborators. The officers are being investigated to unravel their motive and motivation. The public and the media are please requested to be careful and wary of these disgruntled persons. They should please disregard any such material from them. “The Nigerian army holds the media in high esteem. The Nigerian media is one of the best in the world and have consistently been partners in progress and very supportive, understanding and cooperative with the Nigeria army especially in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. This at times comes at the risk of their personal safety and corporate existence. “The role of the media in nation building and conflict resolution, peace building and social responsibility is never in doubt. They have proven to be very important stakeholders in our collective efforts to restore peace and stability in our great nation. “With this and so many other things, the media, especially the online publications, should not be involved or lured into such dubious campaign. “It is imperative to note that the fight against Boko Haram terrorists is at critical stage, any attack on the Nigerian army will be counter-productive and serious distraction on the fight against terrorism and insurgency. More so, as we are busy trying to defeat Boko Haram terrorists based on the given presidential mandate. “Consequent upon this, we are calling on all Nigerians not to fall prey to their campaign of calumny. This is because their evil intents would be distractive and capable of reversing the gains on the fight against Boko Haram terrorists. “Therefore, all hands must be on deck to ensure the defeat of Boko Haram terrorists and safety of lives and property in our country before the end of the year.” Read more at: https://www.thecable.ng/army-raises-alarm-says-officers-plotting-sabotage-bharam-war |

Houston, TX — In August, a group suspected to be Boko Haram members ambushed a convoy carrying the new head of the Nigerian army, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai in Faljari, about 45km east of the Borno, state capital Mauduguri, holding them to a gunfight that left undisclosed number of soldiers dead. Exactness of this attack and subsequent offensives corroborated the claims that insurgents had trusted insiders in the defense system. At the time, the army had persuasively made bizarre structural changes that created mistrust and uncertainty among the ranks. Currently, the operational settings and battle-readiness capability in the Nigerian Army may have collapsed, leaving the troops with little or no confidence to defend the country, International Guardian investigations revealed. Besides uncertainties over the regimes reorganization of the military structure, a failed strategy to defeat the Boko Haram insurgency has dealt a big blow to the sector with last week’s attack that left scores of soldiers dead in the most shamefully, overpowering manner. According the reports, not fewer than 105 soldiers attached to the 157 battalion went missing after they came under intense attack from Boko Haram insurgents in Gudunbali, Borno State, on Wednesday. The extremists also captured a T-72 tank as well as several artillery weapons from the unit. The Nigerian Army officials immediately took to the media to cover up the incident until angry soldiers unanimously sent horrific photos of slain soldiers to the social media. Boko Haram’s defeat may have been the last straw, confided a source close to the army; but a recent decision to convict about 600 soldiers, some to death, accused of deserting the war against Boko Haram insurgents deepened the enduring tension. This action, according to sources, created low morale and distrust among troops, leaving them vulnerable to internal and external influence. For instance, most middle-ranking offices, it was gathered, are aligned with various administrative cliques, courting politicians and trading sensitive defense information related to the regime. President Muhammadu Buhari, fearing a possible rebellion had put his entire service chiefs on high alert. October 10, for instance, Lieutenant General Buratai, the chief of army staff, visited the 9 Brigade Nigerian army cantonment at Ikeja, strictly warning soldiers to desist from mingling with Nigerian politicians. International Guardian’s reported how Lieutenant General Buratai threatened that any officer who flouted the order would be severely dealt with. “Any soldier seen fraternizing with politicians or engaging in politics will be dealt with. There must be esprit de corps,” Lieutenant General Buratai said. Uncertainties triggered by total a lack of determination to fight the enemy gets worse by the day, leaving the Buhari’s regime clueless about feasible defense policies. In a regulated strategy to appease troops, Lt. General Buratai, decorated 2,903 soldiers in October deployed to fight Boko Haram, in Mubi, Adamawa state, with medals. He claimed the aim was to motivate them at the war front. This came after he approved the promotion of 5,000 soldiers in the North-East fighting Boko Haram, and others involved in other operations in he described steps to boost their morale. Similarly in June, Lieutenant General Buratai had awarded two category of medals to honor more than 2,000 soldiers, (serving and dead) who fought Boko Haram. Operation Zaman Lafiya Medal, according to the Army chief, was awarded to deserving soldiers who had served for more than six months in the ongoing operation against the Boko Haram, whereas the Nigerian Army Purple Heart Medal was awarded to wounded or killed soldiers. Disappointed with a losing battle to Boko haram after months of mixed but unproductive strategy policies, President Buhari had set a December deadline, charging the service chiefs to map out fresh tactics to defeat Boko Haram. This was just three months ago. However, last week’s attack of 157 Battalion of the Nigerian Army where service chiefs could not account for more than 105 soldiers including their commanding officer raises doubts about meeting the December deadline. This also confirms a long speculated disorganization and a state of unpreparedness among the troops. “We have giving them enough medals, and we have armed them well enough; we need results,” a senior member of the Buhari’s regime was quoted as saying. http://www.guardiannewsusa.com/nigerian-army-crumbles-in-chaos.html |

Sahara Reporter’s journalist Kayode Ogundamisi, also known as Oluwakayode Ogundamisi, was yesterday exposed for peddling images of battered and bloody men claiming that the men were Hausa men attacked during the Biafra protest in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday. It turns out these images were actually from the mayhem that took place in Wukari, Taraba State after the controversial ruling that saw sacking of Governor Darius Ishaku. Some popular bloggers took to the social media platform, Facebook, expressing their shock, condemnation, and disgust at Ogundamisi’s immature, insensitive, and deadly attempt to cause an ethnic blood bath. #Biafra supporters escalate campaign.
