My recent article, titled “Bola Tinubu is General Buhari’s James Ibori”has apparently been widely publishedand therefore has elicited an equally diverse range of responses, mainly quite civil even while disagreeing with my general position.

However, to those readers who were quite scathing in their comments, I humbly invite them to visit the highly respected website <thedailybeast.com> and read the piece by Michael Weiss just published today, April 27th 2015, titled “Nigeria’s Next Leader’s Ties to a Heroin Ring”.

In his column, Michael Weiss elaborated on the very murky alleged drug trafficking and money laundering activities which Bola Tinubu was involved in about 20 years ago, leading to the reported forfeiture to the United States Treasury Department, of an estimated US$ 460,000.

Herein lies the crux of my writing today. A few days ago, the Imperious (not merely “Honourable”) Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke strenuously attempted to debunk rumours that she was seeking to flee Nigeria in order to evade possible prosecution by the incoming Administration of our highly respected President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (retired).

I guess many Nigerians, my humble self included, believe that theorectically every one is innocent until proven guilty. But I must admit that I was quite perplexed at the lady’s audacity. My question was initially, “WHAT is giving the Imperious Minister confidence?” It was only later it dawned on me that the right poser is “WHO is giving Diezani confidence?”

The answer, it seems, is Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the self-styled Jagaban Borgu. The confidence (or “confido” in Nigerian lingo) of Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and other alleged kleptocrats like her is apparently founded on the premise that a truly transparent anti-graft campaign would be unable to credibly sidestep the Jagaban deep inside General Buhari’s tent only to target her and her type outside it.

Let me very clear. I have great admiration for the tremendous political achievements which Mr. Tinubu has recorded since 1999. Having said that, I do believe that, in order to bequeath the appropriate moral high ground to his coalition partner, President-elect Buhari, the Jagaban should submit himself to a comprehensive, independent asset acquisition and verification audit, upon resumption of the incoming Administration.

Thereafter, any assets found either to have been unlawfully acquired or that cannot be justified based on extant asset declaration documentation, available public service records and historical tax declaration attestations, should be forfeited to the Nigerian state. Or is it only the United States Treasury Department that is worthy of enrichment?

Our dear President-elect Buhari should recognise that any attempt to allow his moral handicap regarding Bola Tinubu to prejudice genuine national ethical re-orientation will IMMEDIATELY signal the beginning of the divorce between the General and Nigerians. After all, absent General Buhari’s eagerly anticipated anti-corruption campaign, what else do Nigerians have to look forward to?

Has endemic graft not been universally acknowledged to be at the root of all Nigeria’s underdevelopment, e.g. insecurity (manifesting as Boko Haram), electric power shortages, infrastructure decay, education collapse, practically non-existent healthcare, just to mention a few.

Meanwhile, on the issue of the Jagaban seeking to nominate virtually all the key executive and legislative appointees, I believe the General (though advanced in age from the sprightly 40-year old of December 1983) is still shrewd enough to steer the affairs of the highly volatile animal known as Nigeria.

In any case, as I stated in my earlier article, since General Buhari has conceded the Vice-Presidency to Jagaban Bola Tinubu’s nominee, one is unable to comprehend the latter’s desperation to seemingly ‘take over’ the government-to-be.

As for Her Imperious Highness, Diezani Alison-Madeuke and her ilk, they should all be very prepared (if not worried) as General Buhari has already declared his intention to revisit the enquiry into the alleged US$ 20 billion (or is it actually US$ 50 billion) reportedly missing from the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In which case, perhaps it is not only NNPC or its exploration subsidiary, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) that would be making refunds to state coffers which Diezani Alison-Madueke recently alluded to.

All those individuals and private sector entities that participated in the heist should also be preparing to shed the weight of their colossal bank accounts and also surrender fixed assets where necessary.

May Almighty God bless President-elect Buhari as he prepares to take Nigeria back to our years of glory and distinction.

So let me brief you all a little bit about myself, I'm the first son of a family of five. Also a 300-level student, all my life I have been depressing and saddened by the kind of family I found myself in.

First of all, I must commend my dad for pulling me from secondary level to University.
The only thing I know my dad does for me is to pay my school fees and he leaves me with no other choice again.
Let me clear y'all a lot about him.

Second of all, he does nothing, he's one of the Niger Delta amnesty beneficiaries which occurred some years ago. Ever since then, he depend on all that money to train five children.
He's a stay-at-home dad, lol!
My dad left me with depression and hunger for me to deal with here in school.

Now, what got me annoyed to bring this issue here is, that I came back home for some weeks now to sustain myself because I have been going through a lot over there.
The little work that I use to do here in the village, was to get small money for myself and the girl that I brought home. This man has been relying on me all this while to be bringing money for feeding and any household stuff.

I have been here for two months now, working from Monday to Sunday and coming back late at night without any single savings on me.
I cry every night, laying curses on myself and that angel that made me become a first child.

I give this man every money, ranging from the one he will use and smoke, eat, soap, etc.
All he does is stay in the house from morning to night.

I'm tired!

School is depressing me, I have many courses that I am having issues with and no money to fix all these courses, and I have just a year to leave this school.
Home is also making me choose suicide as the only option left.

Whenever I tell him I don't have money, he blows up and starts threatening me about how he's going to withdraw from assisting me academically.

I'm tired!!

This is a History that deserves to live with us forever and what democracy meant to young Nigerians then.

On October 25, 1993. Four dissatisfied
Nigerian teenagers hijacked a Nigerian Airways airbus A310 that was flying from Lagos to Abuja and diverted the plane to Niamey, Niger Republic.

They were dissatisfied by the annulment of June 12 elections by the military Head of States, Gen Ibrahim Babangida. The young Nigerians, Richard Ogunderu was 19, Kabir Adenuga was 18, Benneth Oluwadaisi was 20 and Kenny Rasaq Lawal 19.

They all unassumingly boarded the flight at MMA alongside other passengers. About 16mins before landing, they waited until the pilot announced that passengers should fasten their seat belts and prepare for landing. Next thing the passengers heard was:��

“Ladies and gentlemen, this plane has been taken over by the Movement for the Advancement of Democracy. Remain calm, we will not harm you. You will be told where the plane will land you. You do not move or you die”.

END QUOTE

The leader of the hijackers, Richard Ogunderu a 19 year old, walked into the cockpit and seized the process, and then one other followed. Two remained to watch over the passengers. When he got to the cockpit, the pilot knew immediately this was an attack, so he had to obey instructions given to him.

Ogunderu then asked the pilot to divert the aircraft straight to Germany. The pilot convinced him the plane did not carry sufficiently fuel to crossover the Atlantic and then suggested they divert to a nearby country, Niger or they will crash and everybody dies.

The two hijackers told the pilot what they wanted was where they could give publicity to their reason for the hijack. They told him they wanted Germany, because they could have a good press coverage that would support their democratic cause for Nigeria. But that couldn’t happen because of the fuel shortage.

They agreed to land in Niamey, Niger Republic. Upon landing the hijackers found themselves surrounded by hundreds of armed Nigeriène soldiers at the airport. They had earlier distributed their demands in a pamphlets among the passengers calling on the Nigerian government to overturn the annulment of the June 12 election. They gave the government 72 hours to meet their demands or else they would set the plane ablaze.

To show they were not ready to kill anyone so long govt listen to them, they released 34 of the 193 passengers, among whom were top Nigerian government officials.

The leader of the hijackers spoke to a BBC correspondent. The correspondent asked what they were fighting for, and he told him, they wanted to actualize the mandate given by the Nigerian people to M.K.O Abiola.

Nigerian government sent 24 delegates to come and talk to the hijackers, but none of them entered the aircraft to talk to them, instead they were in the hotel, asking them to come down.

The Nigeriene soldiers did not storm the plane because..the hijackers claimed to have rigged the plane with explosives, and so began negotiations, keeping the remaining passengers hostage. For three days, the hijackers and the passengers fed on coffee & biscuits.

At some point, they ran out of water for coffee, one passengers demanded for water. Under the guise of bringing them water and food, the Nigeriène soldiers eventually realised the hijackers were not armed, and under the cover of darkness, they stormed the plane.

The four teenagers were arrested, cuffed hands behind their backs and taken straight to a prison cell. The hijackers spoke neither Hausa nor French and nobody made any attempt to question them in English. They were denied food for days.

The hijackers were remanded in oNiamey prison for 9years before they were released in 2001. The Nigerian government didnt even brother requesting for them to be extradited. They wanted them away from Nigerian soil, to prevent them becoming a symbol of resistance to Nigeria's youths.

TAKE HOME:- These TEENAGERS representated the generation of Nigerian youths 1993. Intelligent, bold, patriotic and courageous. They courageously believed they could save Nigeria from the tyrannical steel claws of the military Junta.

Even as teenagers. They placed their lives on the chopping plank to save Nigeria. They weren’t asking for what Nigeria could do for them, they thought of what they could do for Nigeria. They were only teenagers, yet they wore the chest of warriors.

Richard Ogunderu, Kabir Adenuga, Benneth Oluwadaisi and Kenny Rasaq Lawal, I dedicate this June 12 Democracy Day to you guys. You are the Nigeria ��.
