gabbasin:Why is it common to find westerners or Asians that are in middle age and above, that run long distances races but we Nigerians are often dismissive of such exercises and say it's not healthy for older people? Some South Africans that are in their 60s and beyond run long distances competitions but it's very unlikely to find a Nigerian in same age category in such events . There is nothing backed by science that says it is risky for people above 40 not to do a cardiovascular exercise like running..All it takes as a beginner is to run slow and build up over time.lt is very unfortunate that, despite the huge number of Nigerians living in the UK and the USA,most of them just can't run nor take part in various running events done by regular folks.The London vitality 10k yearly running event for example had only 26 Nigerians last year,in a race of over 15.000 participants. |
prinsam30:Age is no excuse for walking slow.He didn't train well enough on his mobility, balance, agility or generally his fast motor units.There are still many in their 70s and beyond still running sprints,10k runs, marathons etc.lf you walk slow in your youth, you are guaranteed to walk slow at your old age,if never trained for it.l applaud him though for what he did for body fitness and strength and making it a mainstream lifestyle. |

I prefer running than walking.Walking to me is easy and a normal human activity.I just think the west, mainly America began pushing this idea of walking and its benefits because many of the folks there live a sedentary life.Otherwise,it ain't a big deal to walk.Humans have been walking since the dawn of time.l think that someone that runs consistently would find or consider walking an easy task.l walk quite often and l can feel the difference when l go out running. Better running cushion shoes are important to have to prevent joint pains.Stretching too is vital. Another tips to be a better runner is to enroll in short or medium distance competitions and build up to long distances like marathons.That would make you get to practice more and set a goal.Those competitions are often filled with thousands of regular folks that wants to become better. Important information:The vitality 10k run in London would take place on the 28th of september 2025 and registrations are ongoing.Only 26 Nigerians took part in the race last year.A low turnout in a race of over 15.000 participants.Also,in regards with the large Nigerian population in the UK.If you brisk walk, this is something for you. |

There is blessing in motion.A body in motion stays in motion.You must walk with purpose not strolling.Most of us in Nigeria stroll and that does not give any optimal result.Walk fast while swinging your arms,so called brisk walk sets one for a better functional capacity.Hill walks are good as you would feel the tension in your thighs.Also,invest on proper walking/running shoes with good cushions to prevent feet or knee injuries because injuries can prevent one from walking properly.Hoka, Saucony,Asics has good cushion shoes.Also,have water for dehydration. |
