Active sportsmen who are perceived healthy can be susceptible to cardiac arrest. So for adults, do light exercise, walking is okay, don't put your body to stress.
Why is it common to find westerners or Asians that are in middle age and above, that run long distances races but we Nigerians are often dismissive of such exercises and say it's not healthy for older people?
Some South Africans that are in their 60s and beyond run long distances competitions but it's very unlikely to find a Nigerian in same age category in such events .
There is nothing backed by science that says it is risky for people above 40 not to do a cardiovascular exercise like
running..All it takes as a beginner is to run slow and build

Age is no excuse for walking slow.He didn't train well enough on his mobility, balance, agility or generally his fast motor units.There are still many in their 70s and beyond still running sprints,10k runs, marathons etc.lf you walk slow in your youth, you are guaranteed to walk slow at your old age,if never trained for it.l applaud him though for what he did for body fitness and strength and making it a mainstream lifestyle.

I think for those who were able to inculcate and nurture the habit, running has and provides more benefits.

Just that it's difficult especially as we advance in age moreso for those who didn't start at a younger age as it may be difficult doing exercises that put your heart in that cardio zone.

So it's better to walk instead of doing nothing,
I don't think age is an issue for running.Just start slow and do it once or twice per week and progress.Most global competitions are often filled by people above 50 years.

They are mutually inclusive
Sprints are fast short runs like 60 metres,100m,200m etc . Just Usain Bolt, Maurice green, Tyson Gay etc.They are equally beneficial.

Brisk walk:To walk at a pace with moderate intensity that raises your heart rate and breathing.lt is better health wise than the normal trekking or strolling that we often do.Think that you are building a foundation for strength and agility as you grow older.Most older people walk slower because of constant slow walks over the years.This often makes them susceptible to falls and weakness.That does not often happen to anyone that brisk walk consistently.

I prefer running than walking.Walking to me is easy and a normal human activity.I just think the west, mainly America began pushing this idea of walking and its benefits because many of the folks there live a sedentary life.Otherwise,it ain't a big deal to walk.Humans have been walking since the dawn of time.l think that someone that runs consistently would find or consider walking an easy task.l walk quite often and l can feel the difference when l go out running. Better running cushion shoes are important to have to prevent joint pains.Stretching too is vital.
Another tips to be a better runner is to enroll in short or medium distance competitions and build up to long distances like marathons.That would make you get to practice more and set a goal.Those competitions are often filled with thousands of regular folks that wants to become better.

Important information:The vitality 10k run in London would take place on the 28th of september 2025 and registrations are ongoing.Only 26 Nigerians took part in the race last year.A low turnout in a race of over 15.000 participants.Also,in regards with the large Nigerian population in the UK.If you brisk walk, this is something for you.

Countries that have the highest life expectancy in the world have the same thing in common. They are not gym freak. Hardly. But they walk till very old age. I make research on what makes those countries diff from others and I also equate their intelligent quotient with thier life expectancy a d what they eat. Bro, all those resistance training will come to hit you harder as you age.
Go to youtube and check out ex athletes and body builders campaigning against resistance training. So many. Six packs does not mean you are healthy. Do your research well before you respond.


I understand that Nigerians don't follow research news at all so I am not surprised you are promoting resistance training. Just the same way Nigerian women are going crazy with bbl when others are reversing theirs because of the effects on their health.
We face a gradual loss of muscle mass and decline in bone density as we age.lt begins by 30 and gets rapid with time.To prevent those loss and even reverse it, you need to do resistance exercises.For example,Why do you think falls are common among elderly folks? It's because of the gradual loss of muscle mass and weakness over the years.When you fall you loose your mobility and that stops you from going out for a walk or doing basic activities.You might even break a hip or injure an internal organ.Some don't even survive such falls.They often die shortly after.Resistance training is essential in that regard,not only does it combat frailty and body weakness,it adds to your overall physical strength and function.

Also, you don't need to go to a gym.You can train by using your own body weight or get some dumbbells and train at home.Strength training is essential if you want to live longer and healthier.Studies show,it also helps with your cognitive function.There are just too many compelling evidence.

There is blessing in motion.A body in motion stays in motion.You must walk with purpose not strolling.Most of us in Nigeria stroll and that does not give any optimal result.Walk fast while swinging your arms,so called brisk walk sets one for a better functional capacity.Hill walks are good as you would feel the tension in your thighs.Also,invest on proper walking/running shoes with good cushions to prevent feet or knee injuries because injuries can prevent one from walking properly.Hoka, Saucony,Asics has good cushion shoes.Also,have water for dehydration.

Walking is out of necessity. You walk because healthwise, you need it.

You are not making any sense at all.

And yes, you can walk under the sun.


When I was in Nigeria,Abuja to be precise, the sun starts early and goes down evening time. And the sun is harsh.The only time I get to walk was when the sun is out. So I use my big hat, wear long shirt and sunglasses and off I go. I walk for 2 hours daily unless I'm engaged that time or raining. Brisk walking. By the time I get home, I will be drenched.
Do that, its good for you. You do not need the gym.
You still need the gym or outdoor training for resistance fitness.Muscle growth is important as we age.Your brisk walking (cardiovascular exercise)is also essential for heart health.
