Not all who fail school exams are dumb and not all who passed in flying colours are smart. If U are anything close to being wise U will know that it's not all kids who has got the same gifts.

There's hardly any dumb person in reality some might be slow and others may be inclined towards other fields. But as Nigerians growing up everyone had to be very good in maths plus all the sciences to be classified as smart when in reality those who set the standards are the dumb ones. Know Ur child and their strengths, know where they naturally shine and steer them towards that part.

Not everyone will be good in maths and sometimes this is even due to wrong teaching patterns. Not all kids will do well in medicine or engineering. Some are gifted in arts and anything related while some also needs practical teachings and examples to really assimilate what is being taught.

I for one started out as a science student but switched to social sciences in my form 2 in secondary school. I loved biology but chemistry was too wide for me to grasp then and the teaching patterns weren't helpful. Physics was also interesting but I hated maths in short I dreaded it and in my ssce I managed to scale it after many tries but I excelled in every other subject.

It was an encounter with a Uniben professor during my preparation for jamb that opened my mind because of his teaching methods. Me that dreaded maths now fell in love with further mathematics. I found joy solving problems from it up to when I got into the university. I was the number one plug for calculus during exams. I fed almost an entire auditorium with solutions and no one failed but I always had a D but I didn't mind cos it was an elective course.

Even till now I'm still fascinated by derivation and permutations. It's always as easy as drinking water like my prof would say. Don't say he's dumb. No dumb person can succeed in the outside world. He probably had comprehension problems due to forces he couldn't control then or even understand.

You probably in the school of thought that academic success guarantees real success lol. Academic success is just a blueprint or road map for discipline. Real smartness is readiness for when opportunity comes and how prepared U are to take the wheels plus a lot more...
