They’ve abandoned all plans for an amphibious landing since Odessa is extremely fortified and prepared for this. The sea approaches are covered with anti-ship mines, lots of anti-ship missiles, significant artillery and a well armed garrison. So that’s been canned.

By land? there’s a sizeable Ukrainian force there. Ample anti-air cover. There’s a reason why Russia’s current offensive is focused on Donbas.

Meanwhile Ukraine is training up bigger armies in the rest for a June counter-offensive.

The best they can do is keep firing missiles at a Odessa.

You forget that in the early days of the war, they’d already foiled the Russian attempt at a lighting fast capture of Kyiv by routing the landing party at Hostomel and slaughtering much of the elite Russian VDV and Spetznaz special forces. Not to mention halting the huge Russian convoy approaching Kyiv and destroying it with Bayraktar drones and anti-tank missiles.

They are a paper tiger because the world can see their poorly trained army, their poor, outdated tactics and shoddy equipment.

They’re even lucky the world has been cautious about the weapons provided to them. Because if they really had more of the good stuff like anti-radar missiles and advanced anti-ship missiles, Russia would be forced by now to deploy some of you people to the battlefront as cannon fodder.

In February, Russia was threatening military action if Finland or Sweden joined NATO.

Now in May, with Ukraine exposing Russia as a paper tiger and tying up most of Russia’s standing army, Russia wouldn’t dare take on Finland that are even more fearsome when it comes to training and equipment than Ukraine. Or even Sweden. Both countries use modern NATO equipment, have powerful, long range artillery and a well trained populace that’s willing to fight.


Which is why you see Russia talking about a defensive response.
