For shame. over 70% of you are working...$4.99 is less than N1000. Stop making noise about Android if you can't occasionally support devs.

I used to rip Android apps before...but then I discovered I could tie my credit card to the Android Market last year. Since then i've paid my way for most apps on my GS III.

We'll never get rid of Piracy, but at least let's make the effort to support devs once in a while instead of defaulting to the scene.

Bawss1: Copy. Combine. Transform. Those have been the steps that lead to innovation. Virtually all of the innovations that lie in history have followed these steps, from Gutenberg's printing press to Henry Ford's horseless carriage and even Apple's GUI in the late 70s. All those works borrowed from the ideas of others. Lawsuits and litigations disrupt this flow and stifle the innovative process. As has been pointed out severally Apple in its early days would have just closed shop had Xerox sued it for copying the GUI!
I wonder what kind of innovation will result if no one was ever allowed to copy, that's basically asking to reinvent the wheel for any new product.

Samsung's fears are justified, this lawsuit is a bad omen for innovation.
Actually, the story that Apple 'stole' the GUI from Xerox is just a myth.

http://obamapacman.com/2010/03/myth-copyright-theft-apple-stole-gui-from-xerox-parc-alto/

Xerox was compensated for any ideas borrowed by Apple.

Samsung's fears are not justified. There are multiple workarounds to achieving the same objective. For example Apple doesn't have a patent on 'pinch-to-zoom'. they have a patent on a specific implementation of pinch-to-zoom. Google and Microsoft have come up with different implementations and methods that do not infringe on Apple's patent.

Apple obtained the patent for 'bounce back' overscroll effect when you hit the bottom of a list. Samsung copied it without paying a dime. in Android Gingerbread, Google put a glow effect to indicate when you've reached the end. That's a very viable workaround.

When I came across this story, I laughed really hard! How on earthcan Samsung pay Apple $1.05Billion with 30 truck loaded with 5Cent coins, how? That’s the trending news at moment concerning the Apple Vs Samsung Case.
For those in the dark, Apple recently sued Samsung for…
copying “the look and feel” of its iPad tablet and iPhone smartphone.Apple’s claim for intellectual property infringement is phrased as follows:
“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.”
In a landslide victory against Samsung, The jury on the 24th of August voted that nearly every one of Samsung’s devices infringed on Apple patents aside from its tablets. Samsung was found to owe Apple $1,049,343,540 in damages over trade dress and patent violations for iPhone and iPad. The damages were spread out over all of the various Samsung devices.
Today 29th August however, it is reported that Samsung, in a bid to go with the judgement of the court, has decided to pay the $1.05billion to Apple by sending 30 trucks containing five-cent coins.
Although some say the story might be a hoax, this may present an idea to Samsung since the jury did not specify a single payment method, LOL grin grin grin grin grin
You see the 'trollface' logo on the trucks and you wonder if this story is a hoax?

did not quite get what was gwan with the thing at first but apparently that thing is taking crazy pictures with my 8MP camera. really good quality.

it takes three shots in quick succession at different exposures and rates and combines them on the fly with 5 secs to a very very high quality picture with superb quality, as in WOW!!

Bawss1: Certainly. Until the patent laws - and copyright too! - are reformed these kinds of ridiculous lawsuits do nothing but shortchange customers.
That's where we differ. I have my misgivings over some software patents being issued and their use as a litigation weapon, but I seriously believe Samsung DID copy shamelessly from Apple in 2010...and deserve some punishment as a result of that.

I also disagree with Samsung...the outcome of these lawsuits should spur innovation, not stifle innovation. As i said before, there isn't anything truly innovative in the Galaxy S III. Samsung needed this shake-up.

On the Crackberry homepage, there's a preview of Blackberry 10. From that preview and from a few videos we've seen, there's most likely way more innovation packed in the up[coming BB10 handsets than in anything Samsung has produced for a while.
Samsung threatens to sue Apple if next iPhone has LTE

Well how’s this for a comeback? After being informed that they would have to pony up $1.05 billion for infringing on design and utility patents owned by Apple, Samsung has threatened to use a very important piece of firepower at some point down the line. Korea Times is reporting that Samsung is ready to sue Apple if the next iPhone has 4G LTE.

Samsung enjoys an extensive patent portfolio pertaining to LTE technology, and they reportedly own 10% of all LTE patents currently floating around. Apple has shown a key interest in LTE with the advent of the iPad 3. Because of its arrival inside the latest iPad the tech industry fully expects Apple to follow suit with the next iPhone.

https://phandroid.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/you-on-3g-4g.jpg

“But why are they waiting for the iPhone if the iPad is out there right now,” you ask. Well, for one, waiting for the first LTE iPhone is probably the best strategic move Samsung can make. The iPhone makes up a lot more of Apple’s mobile sales than the iPad, and Samsung likely wants to land the biggest blow they can.

This is a very interesting development to behold, and it’ll be interesting to see if these supposed threats will change Apple’s mind about using LTE in the next iPhone. But even with the patents to back them up, Samsung could be subject to FRAND rules because of LTE being a standard.

Should the next iPhone launch with LTE and should Samsung decide to sue, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to get a victory of the same magnitude. I’m no patent expert, though, so I’m just going to grab some movie popcorn and watch this one unfold.

http://phandroid.com/2012/08/30/samsung-threatens-to-sue-apple-if-next-iphone-has-lte/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
This kind of article would have to come from a website called 'phandroid', wouldn't it? grin

Sorry to say this, but this article is VERY VERY dubious. I'll explain

First of all, no company would show their hands before the event. There's no way Samsung would pre-announce an intention to sue Apple weeks before the iPhone release.
Secondly, any LTE patents would likely be FRAND based...and any FRAND patent owner is mandated to make available their IP for use under reasonable terms.
Thirdly, as the article notes, the iPad 3 comes with LTE. Any software implementation in the iPad will make its way to the iPhone. Failure to litigate for the iPad 3 will damage any case for the next iPhone.

Finally, Apple doesn't make the LTE chip. The manufacturer (for example, Qualcomm) would already be licensing the patents before supplying to Apple. Hence no scope to litigate.

Abrantie: https://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/Popup/2012/5/Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Phone.jpg

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the Ferrari of Android phones, with a gorgeous 4.8-inch 720p resolution display, an impossibly slim and light casing and a quad-core engine that goes like stink. I like the look of the Galaxy S3 from the front, with its simple design, curved corners and metal trim. The processor is fast, the screen stunningly dazzling and the microSD slot stunningly practical.
So basically, you aren't smart enough to comment on the phone itself....you have to resort to copying and pasting links from the internet?

The GS III isn't the thinnest phone in the world, and wasn't the thinnest at launch. No innovation there
It wasn't the first Quad core phone in the world. Quad core Tegra 3 phones were out way before the GS III
CPU and GPU power does not equate to 'innovation'. In terms of raw power the GS III and the Galaxy Note II are on the verge of being eclipsed by LG's upcoming flagship
a 4.8 inch screen isn't innovative. Screen size isn't innovation. The resolution is the same as on most other high end Android devices.
SUPER-AMOLED screen is not innovative. Loads of shipping phones out there have Super AMOLED screens....

As for software, S-Beam is just basically NFC. S-Voice is a Siri Wannabe. Smart Stay is perhaps the only fairly innovate thing but it's gimmicky and defintely doesn't always work.

The iPhone 4S came out Q4 2011. The Galaxy S III came out Q2 2012. Why are you posting charts comparing both of them? Who asked you sef? Is it for my benefit, I that know more about tech than you do, and have used both devices extensively?

Please move aside and let someone who actually knows their gear (not copying and pasting from Gsmarena) come and make a logical contribution here.

hancock: reading trough some treads on the tobi-obito saga and i found this one interesting
SPOILER ALERT!
Tobi is Obito
Obito gave his eye to Kakashi and they were told to run, leaving Obito to die
Obito passed out
Obito was saved by Madara Uchiha at The Battle of Kannabi Bridge
After Obito woke up, Madara had already attended to his wounds, his eye sack, from which his eye to Kakashi was torn out, is shown to be sewn, and his right eye intact, although his right side of the face seems to be bruised a lot
Obito was burried in Konoha with an empty grave
Madara became Obito's mentor
Obito was brainwashed in the long run into accepting Madaras ideals
Madara was the one to come up with Tsuki No Me
Madara was the one to attack Konoha 16 years ago, wearing the mask
Madara died after unlocking Rinnegan (is not explained how he done it) and overusing it by accident
Obito became Tobi
His mission was to carry out Madaras plan
He was given all the information that Madara possessed, thus the extent of knowledge Tobi has about everything
He was trained by Madara
This is wrong.

Nagato already had the Rinnegan YEARS before the Kyuubi was released and before the masked man attacked the 4th Hokage.Nagato got the Rinnegan during the world war before the one that Obito and Kakashi fought in.

There is something/someone controlling Obito's body and Sharingan. it was that entity that did not know the 4th's true powers and abilities before fighting him. Obito as a person definitely wasn't the one battling Minato...the way he spoke to Minato gives it away.

When I served in the East, it was actually the school's policy to ban speaking of Igbo in class in favour of English...and I supported that gesture. In that rural setting, EVERYBODY could speak Igbo. English on the other hand is a critical reason why many of those kids would never have gained admission into any tertiary institution.

It is expected that parents would teach their kids Igbo as largely the first language they'd learn...and then spend many years learning how to read and write in English which remains Nigeria's official and common language.

Anyone who does not want to use English as a common and official language of Nigeria should stay in their village where they can transact all their business in their mother tongue.

As for Nintendo, from my SNES days i've had a soft spot for them. Their Wii has outsold the PS3 and 360 handily and they are the kings of portable gaming...but Nintendo is still by far the most vulnerable of the Big Three. They don't have Microsoft's cash reserves or Sony's super-powerful hardware.

Slavery is long gone and dead and we have moved on. English has been retained as our official language and that is not a fact you can argue with. That has NOTHING to do with 'intellectual inferiority' and everything to do with commonsense and the need for a common language for ALL Nigerians that can be taught from childhood.

Would you prefer we adopted hausa as our common language?

I have never seen such m0r0nic people as here on Nairaland sometimes...every culture inherits and retains something from colonial times or occupation. The spanish culture is irreversibly tinged with moorish influence, for example. We are a fragmented nation of well over 80 ethnic groups....English was and still is the only viable choice for an official, universal language.
i'd like to see you m0r0ns try to convince a hausa or yoruba man to adopt Igbo as their official language.

The funny thing is that dolts like you are invariably Christians and muslims...inherited and adopted religions. Why are you not there on your knees venerating Amadioha?

And to think you clowns were protesting the introduction of Sharia in Northern Nigeria....

When Northern Governor makes silly but populist laws like Sharia introduction, Igbo people cry foul
Eastern Governor makes silly but populist law like requiring SSCE credit in Igbo language to enter a citadel of higher learning and the same people cheer it on.

If the clown is so concerned with Igbo language, why not sensitize the public on the benefits of emphasizing Igbo language learnings for kids at an early age? Why not speak directly to the parents? Why not encourage instead of mandate?

If Igbo civil servants in the North are sacked over inability to speak Hausa, many people will be up in arms. If all Igbo state civil servants in the West that cannot speak Yoruba are sent away, there will be loads of noise.

All I see is a clueless, lame duck Governor latching on to a populist cause to grab cheap popularity for himself. Nonsense.

Abrantie: Samsung is the champ and future of mobile tech while Apple is simply a jealous, overgrown and overpriced dickhead!
Can you point out anything really INNOVATIVE in the Galaxy S III?
