furacao:
Of course the whites in your office will enjoy the programme. Read Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and you'd understand why they respond that way. It reinforces their stereotyping of Africans.
Why wouldn't they be thrilled by the carriage of Makko people if they did not, ab initio, expect less?
So you're perfectly happy to apply a racial stereotype while complaining about racial stereotyping, eh?

You people never cease to amaze me.

@tkb417 et al
Kindly answer these questions:

1. Why would you rather point accusing fingers at the BBC instead of the Federal or State governments?
2. If the BBC apologizes (which they definitely won't), will that suddenly turn all the slums into decent environments?
3. If the actual numbers of lagosians that live in slums add up to 7 million instead of the 11 million you said BBC claimed, will that make things all right? Will that make you feel much better, knowing that still a huge number of people are suffering while you make snarky comments on the internet?

Back on topic, kudos to Dr. Kanu. I wish we had a whole lot more people like him.

The herd mentality on Nairaland is to blame EVERYTHING on the government. The youth corps member did an excellent deed (and he should be richly rewarded) but the 'Shame on the Govt' part is not neccessary IMHO.

Politics › Re: Where Is Dr Abalaka? by texazzpete(m): 7:40am On Apr 23, 2010
LOL

As with any half-hearted attempt to scam people, conflicting stories are the order of the day.

chosen04:
Abalaka's last words b/4 he decided to take it easy are "If they cant listern to me 2day, let them learn in a hard way 2morrow''. Are we not learning the hard way 2day as it concerns Aids and ppl living with it?

We would have all be kissing his backside if Abalaka was white and trained in ''one big school outside the country''

Mind you even those who opposed him at that time, were only afraid of one thing----Cos he was using ''HIV VACCINE'' in his experiments.

Believe me, the cure to HIV lies in VACCINE not drugs as the world has being trying to achieve.

If ours is not a country that discourages innoventions, the VACCINES Abalaka worked on should be improved on, rather than looking for drug cures for Hiv/Aids.

The environments those you mention worked were totally different. Do i have to debate on the environmental diiferences? Am sure you know them!
Abalaka claimed he had been treating HIV positive patients and curing them of their malady. Now here you are claiming his solution was a Vaccine. I hope you know what a Vaccine is?

After watching the 2012 doomsday film, my 12 yrs old daughter continuously joking tells me, "Dad, we know you want to save your family as you have always warned us about what is coming, now we believe you and all my students at school talk about it everyday". These are kids but very alert and prepared.
You actually base your judgement on that crappy movie? Now i see how deluded you are.
Health › Re: Youth Corper Donates Drugs to reduce worm-related Infections In Edo State by texazzpete(m): 12:17am On Apr 23, 2010
It is not the duty of the Edo State Government to provide free healthcare to all its citizens. And there's nothing stopping you from doing what this guy did.

Funny how you refer to him as a 'common corper'. Do i remind you that a youth corps member is by default an adult and a graduate? So what's 'common' about him?

All i see here is people trying deperately to heap scorn on the BBC.
However, what cannot be denied is the extreme poverty the people depicted in the documentary live in. In between your self-righteous bleats of outrage, i hope you at least do something to help eradicate poverty in Nigeria.

The energies you people dissipate in condemning the BBC could have been better used in actually doing something positive.

Stop talking @##---------. Dr Abalaka was given a pass mark by the govt agencies that investigated his claims. His claims was not totally empty.
So it's easier for you to believe that one man discovered the cure for HIV/AIDS yet faded into a life of obscurity, abi?

Oh yes, i forgot. The usual claims that the Government did not 'encourage' him. I wonder how much government 'encouragement' Steve Jobs and Bill gates received.

Someone who at the height of his notoriety could command an impromptu press conference starts whining about 'lack of opportunity' and you people fall for that?!
Politics › Re: Nigeria Why Hate The Truth - Fg Protests Bbc Documentary On Lagos by texazzpete(m): 1:13pm On Apr 22, 2010
So you people would rather BBC showed posh houses in VGC and the gleaming Yachts of those who robbed you blind, abi?

at least 60% of lagosians experience the terrible lifestyle shown in that video. If you feel so patriotic and embittered about the whole matter, why not do something to ease the suffering of those people? Why are you not troubling your councillors, your senators, your Governors to redouble their efforts to clear Lagos of those slums, or at least improve the way they work?

But this is Nigeria, the country of cowards. Since it's much easier to petiton BBC and claim conspiracy theories than to actually fix the problem, we start sending protest letters and pointing accusing fingers. a
We'll never amount to anything with you pathetic, whining lot.

Technology Market › Re: Apple Ipad For Sale by texazzpete(m): 7:39am On Apr 22, 2010
The iPad is nowhere near sold out. All Apple stores and a significant number of best Buy stores are loaded with the devices. Plus the 3G version comes out in a couple of days.

As i said before, it's price gouging. It's hard enough to justify the cost of a giant iPod touch without being made to pay twice the price.

But not at the crazy prices i'm seeing here in Nigeria. I mean, isn't it enough to slap $100 on the price as profit? People are talking prices of around N170k for the $499 16GB version.

I won't comment unduly on your strange decision to sell an ancient game like PES 2008 for N8000. However, saying you have Gran Turismo 5 is false advertisement.

GT5 isn't out. What you have is GT5 Prologue, a demo of GT5. Update your post, please.

I said it before, and i'll say it again; I am extremely happy that these gullible brain-dead Neanderthals invested their hard-earned cash in this obvious scam.
One look at the website, a cursory glance at the so-called evidence and i knew at once that these naive people were in for a world of hurt.

Hopefully the bitter lesson they learn will help them make better - and more logical - choices in the future.

1. You don't have a 360.
2. You aren't exactly the most unbiased critic out there, are you?

I find this bickering to be extremely silly. both consoles have their exclusives, lots of good games on either side. You don't have to run down the game selection on the rival console to make yourself feel better about your choices. That's pathetic. Enjoy what you have.

At the end of the day, strong competition benefits the consumers more. As it stands, competition is what drives Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft to bring out new ideas to keep us entertained. I would not change that for the world!

If you vote for him, after all he's put us through in the past, you're a fool.
If he wins in 2011, Collectively Nigerians are fools.

@paddy_lo
Won't that be great? I hope and pray that you are right.

The problem, as I have said in another place, is not that we can't live side by side for years or even decades. The problem with Nigeria is that there is this deep seated animosity, religious, ethnic, communal, take your pick, that would cause the same people to hack each other to death given the excuse. The Nigerian system of doing things is broken.

This does not mean there are no good things about Nigeria, there is plenty. Like I said in my comment, some of the good samaritans mentioned in that story were no doubt muslims. However, where is effort to bring those who committed that dastardly act to justice? Where is the effort by our government to rectify laws and policing systems to effectively set us on the path of sustainable peace? These are the questions that border the mind.

I have no doubt that Kano is a swell place to live, except for that one day when it is taken over by the extremists. That one day could turn to forever for those affected.

Also, please advice our extra-religious CBN governor of the same thing. The other day he basically called Lagos crime city.
Sanusi has never insisted that Sharia be imposed on Nigerians. I don't know where you get off spreading such stupid FUD.

Calling Lagos 'crime city' is a personal opinion of his. i don't see how that's an issue.
