I have just wanted to say that I appreciate your post very much. I also think that there is very little compassion (if any) for the killed Maxwell Itoya's fate and for the pain of his family in the posts of some of the people on this forum. I find this attitude astonishing on a Nigerian forum. Thank you.[/quote]I'm not convinced you're really a Pole.
If you are - and since you've been babbling on and on about how terrible and racist your country is, shouldn't you be on POLISH forums trying to work on your people?

Funny how the same people who accuse myself and Afam of being unpariotic Nigerians for not immediately defendng this fellow are not haranguing you for being an unpatriotic Pole.

@texazzpete  & afam
there was something not right about the way you two were so quick to rush to conclusion in assuming the Nigerians were in the wrong and the European police were in the right.

This is why I questioned whether you were Nigerians.

Do yo not even feel sorry for the young man who lost his life - because I never heard most of you acknowledge this.

Even if a Nigerian had committed a crime abroad we should still show some sympathy and outrage for a brother's killing a far away land.

If we Nigerian do not defend our own and ourselves who is gonna?
is it a wonder that Nigerians are disrespected  with people like you two showing this disgraeful attitude.
angry
No one 'rushed' into conclusions. All the information on hand at that moment pointed to a Nigerian man shot while trying to wrest a loaded gun from a policeman.

And what 'disgraceful attitude' am i showing? What have YOU done to improve our lot? How many 419ers in Nigeria have you confronted? How many corrupt people have you confronted? Stop this childish reasoning and utilize your brains constructively.

@texazzpete
Same question to you:
what nationality are you?

I cannot believe you guys could be Nigerians.
So because i'm Nigerian i'm supposed to toe the 'Nigerian good, foreigner bad' line everytime there's an incident involving a Nigerian overseas?

You people reason like kids. if you want to show your patriotism, go out and vote in 2011 and pay your taxes promptly. it's not insisting on racial bias the instant something happens outside the country.

This was how ignorant people here on Nairaland were complaining of racism when dutch police arrested many Nigerians during Osuofia's concert in Amsterdam. I got to Amsterdam one month after and was informed by many Nigerians of how illegal immigrants fought the dutch police to avoid being deported.

We had no proof of what really happened until recently, so there was absolutely nothing wrong with the position myself and Afam took in this matter.

I was having a discussion with Afam and hence the hypothetical examples i gave. Your phrase "cooking scenario" is hence out of context.
What we were saying is that the story simply dont add up and we need more information to draw conclusion or pass judgement. If any of the by-standers are on NL their opinion would be welcome.
What we do know is that the polish police chased and killed a civilian. Other issues appear at present as mere speculation.
The Police released a statement saying he tried to grab a gun from an officer. They claim several eyewitnesses corroborate that.
Now, that may not be true, but that's all we have to work with for now.

However, 234Next paints a different view of things

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/5572491-146/nigeria_protests_killing_in_poland_.csp

Polish National Police spokesperson, Mariusz Sokolowski, said officers at the market chased after a Nigerian who ran away from them while they were on patrol. One of the officers threw the man to the ground and tried to handcuff him, but a group of foreigners attacked him, Mr Sokolowski said, claiming that the officer's handgun fired during the struggle, with the round striking the Nigerian.

"This man could have been saved and police officers started to resuscitate him, but they were repeatedly attacked with stones by a group of foreigners and were forced to defend themselves, and had to stop the resuscitation," Mr Sokolowski added.

He said six police officers were injured in the fighting and 32 foreigners were arrested.

I guess the smart thing is to wait for the outcome of the investigation. or at least to tell us what crime the man had committed that made him run.

You just can't wait for the case to wind its way through the courts.
And you just can't wait for Sanusi to fully implement his reforms before crying doom-and-gloom, eh?
Even without the courts, the massive losses announced by the banks don't give you an impression of poor judgement calls and mismanagement?

naijaking1:
^^^
Whether Sanusi goes or stays at this point is not such a big deal, the big deal is that for the first time a small fire has been lit under his feet. Gone are the days of random and senseless economic road shows often mixed with Islamic radical idealogies, gone are the days when our CBN governor mixes up islamic puritanism with socialism, and gone are the days when the guy devouts months and weeks on end maligning his professional opponents, and expecting nobody to ask him questions from above, because all the people that matter; the president, the economic advicer, the fin.minister, and that of national planning are from his neck of ethnic wood.
The likes of Renaissance Professionals have been heckling this fellow since he took on the likes of the Ibrus. People like you have been pursuing an online campaign of calumny against this fellow for ages now. I don't get what you mean about fires been lit under his feet for the first time.

Even if he is a criminal, drug dealer, illegal immigrant or whatever the police is not entittled by law to take any life. Even if he killed somebody at least from the poster he is not in any gun battle with the police so the police gat no reason to shot him. In UK that police man will face justice as far as it is nothing to do with a would be terrorist but in poland, the police is just like Nigerian police( bribery and corruption).
Read the frigging story. It is alleged that he was trying to snatch a loaded weapon from a Policeman. if he had managed to grab the rifle, only God knows what he may have done.

No policeman in the UK will face any 'justice' if it is revealed and proven that the fellow was actively trying to grab a loaded weapon with possibly lethal intent.

snowdrops:
Just as i dont have cast iron evidence at this point that he was shot by the Polish police, you also dont have one that he was running away from the Polish police. We are both going by what the article above reported.

That said, we dont know why he was running away from the police. People can have legitimate reason to. Imagine if he had a mental illness, with florid delusions surrounding persecution from law enforcement? Eastern Europe is renowned for endemic corruption compared to her western neighbours. They police could have been involed in some shady dealings.

Again ask yourself, was he armed? If not then why murder him? Why were the fellow traders stoning the police? How come they were that brave to do that? The article smells of a stitch up, and all the pointers are that this was an innocent non-white foreigner killed by the police for an offence not worth the consequences.
We have the newspaper article, and like it or not, that is the solidest piece of info we have right now. Anything else is just speculation and imagination. Stop cooking up scenarios.

How can a medical doctor say someone 'has no blood'?

The doctor should be arrested for impersonation and gross incompetence.

It's obvious that the cane didn't kill the small child - instead of the Police to arrest and prosecute this young lady, an autopsy should be carried out first to find out what happened.

This is a travesty, and anyone who goes along with this should be really ashamed of themselves.
Kidnapping is a heinous crime that inflicts severe trauma on the victims and their families. Some of the victims may never be the same again. Many people have parted with their life savings to free their kidnapped relatives and yet you reward these brigands with money?

The Governor should be ashamed of himself. What plans are there then to refund the ransom monies paid out to the criminals? How the hell can you justify rewarding such an odious crime?

Crime › Re: Nigerian Man Stabs Wife’s Lover To Death On His Matrimonial Bed by texazzpete(m): 3:40pm On May 21, 2010
blacksta:
I disagree - there is a difference between a burglar breaking into one's house and attacks the occupant on being discovered and one's wife having an affair in the same house. In case of burglar the law will argue that you were protecting your self and property but the occupant must not act excessively for example attacking a burglar when he or she is fleeing. In case of woman for example if the lover escape thru the window are you saying the gilted man is allowed to track the man down, kill him and it will still be classed as manslaughter. Please bear in mind that lover was allowed in to the house by the woman.
Please check Wikipedia for Manslaughter.
As long as the defense can easily prove provocation (Walked into the house, saw someone sleeping with his wife) and it can be shown (easily in this case) that the scenario i painted can cause someone to deviate into doing something they normally would not do, this will be chalked down to Manslaughter in every single state in the US.

Your analogy is flawed. tracking down a burglar can be chalked up to Intent to commit murder. In this case, hardly any time had elapsed since the discovery and the fatal stabbing, so even a rookie lawyer can easily convince any Jury that the fellow had temporarily lost control of his senses.
Politics › Re: American Jailed For 24 Years by texazzpete(m): 1:08pm On May 21, 2010
@Devonian
At least i know how to pull off a Nairaland quote.

It's you innate inferiority complex that drives you into these fits of paranoia. And your point is certainly not valid; the Judge is legally not obliged to impose harsher sentences on foreigners just because you claim Nigerians are punished harshly here. The right thing to do is to sentence the criminal to a similar jail term as is obtainable in Nigeria. Anything else will be racial discrimination.

So as long as i've been able to demonstrate to you that somewhat lenient sentencing is the norm here in Nigeria, you have no reason to accuse the judge of anything.

I repeat. You're encouraging judges to display racial discrimination. And that's just silly.

Provocation, my dear fellow. That will be chalked down to provocation. First the infidelity, then the assault.

In fact, the man is unlucky that he stabbed the guy in the back. if it was in the chest, he could have claimed self-defence.

So for all of you who would do this if you were in the husband's shoes, please aim for the chest first, then rough yourself up grin
