@Bigbrovar

You're right, i made some assumptions in my reply to you. You said

bigrovar:
i completely agree with u , just substitute the zinox for sony vaio
To indicate that the Sony VAIO series are underpowered. till now you have been unable to prove that the laptop is underpowered. I attempted to tackle the 'overpriced' issue with my response. When you indicated that you do not play games, i assumed that the Nvidia GPU was redundant.

However, i use a Sony VAIO myself and i've never had any issues with the DVD drive. Th eonly time my Drive had difficulty reading discs, i solved it by cleaning the lens with cotton wool. Since then it's been perfect. I suggest you try the same.

The DVD playing one a particular region of DVDs may be no fault of the laptop manufacturer. It stands to reason that laptops sold in a particular region would be locked to DVD movies of that region.

Then again, that issue would have been evident if you had checked thoroughly online for user and critic reviews before you bought it. Even the pixel resolution of the webcam is given on the website.

I'm not saying all Sony VAIOs are perfect. My VAIO (FE 21M) has a non-working earphone port. Then again, i've been pretty rough in my handling of the laptop and this is a 2 year old laptop, so i'm not too bothered.

We aren't talking about problems plaguing your VAIO, we're asking if the laptops are underpowered and overpriced.

PS: Do you know that bloatware shaves off some of the price of the laptops? It's a discount for your laptop with the trade-off of having bloat installed. I'd rather spend one day wiping ;'em out than to shell out an extra $50 - 100 for the laptop.

@Sun Tzu, skylabnn

Deluded people like you are the ones dragging Nigeria backward. I've given concrete examples of how Americans and Europeans buy japanese cars because they represent the best value for money. I'm not concerned unduly about the maintenance culture that Zinox has, but the systems they sell are overpriced.
They know they can always count on Zombies like you to buy just because it has an 'assembled in Nigeria' sticker on it.

i doubt if all you people springing up in defence of Zinox will buy PAN vehicles assembled in Nigeria.
Computers › Re: My Experience With A Zinox Laptop by texazzpete(m): 6:29pm On Jul 05, 2008
@bigbrovar
You7 simply bought a laptop too powerful for ypour needs. and for someone with some IT skills you were criminally l;ax in picking your laptop. I for one will NEVER buy any electronic device without checking up on user reviews of the device.

hell, the 8400gt probably added $250 to the laptop price. I struggle to believe that any manufacturer will include up to 20GB of bloatware apps.

For the cdrom issue, there may be workarounds, i dunno.

if you need a buyer for the vaio. . .in short, i'll call you

Its like most of you guys don't understand the news report "Nigeria already has a nuclear programme". I did my Industrial Attachment at a company that handled the design of a facility for one of the two nuclear research centers in the country that i am aware of. Both nuclear programmes are basically for research purposes not for energy generation. They actually took very great care in the design and implementation. So i don't know what the pessimism about a nuclear programme.
I don't however no about the governments intention to use nuclear energy. But even with that i think we can handle it with some care and technical know-how. Both centers have existed for more than 3 years now and most of you guys don't know about. Is Nigeria not greathuh
You've already done your industrial attachment. That means you're probably in 400L at least.

It is not 43 years for obvious reasons.

1) Nigeria has not developed most of its Oil blocks
2) Production is at it its lowest in decades
3) Exploration in the Gulf of Guinea is not as efficient as it could be with Stability
undiscovered oil may not be there at all. There's so much uncertainty when you're dealing with the subsurface. After all, you know how many dry wells we've drilled in the North?

Sometimes you nairalanders amuse me. This statement came from Agip chief geophysicist who has many many years of experience. Yet we see laymen on Nairaland challenging his estimates.
We lack humility and modesty in Nigeria, if not the folly in challenging a learned professional's figures with laymans opinions should have registered in your brains.

Politics › Re: Fani-Kayode Blames Occultists For 2006 Plane Crashes by texazzpete(m): 5:27pm On Jul 04, 2008
It's a shame that some Nigerian graduates do not know how to read

This was what Fani Kayode said

Not only did they not care, but some of them actually enjoyed the prospect: What we were dealing with was a cruel and unconscionable blood cult who derived their power and strength from a frenzied and insatiable lust for blood.

How can any educated person stand there and tell me that he was talking about a 'criminal corrupt cult'?! Are the words 'insatiable lust for blood' and 'blood cult' meaningless to you?

The guy was talking about evil occultists, juju etc. And he's stark, raving mad!

Enigma:
The Tribune's news reporters that wrote the story obviously have very poor comprehension --- an inability to put figures of speech in context. It is also rather a shame that most people commenting on this thread did not read the story properly ---- separating Fani-Kayode's own words (as quoted) from the nonsense written by the reporters.

An aside: this poor basic comprehension is also reflected in how our people (supposedly educated people) are easily fooled by for example false pastors twisting the Bible to teach the very opposite of what the Bible actually teaches.
Negro, we know how to read - unlike you! We know what quoted speech looks like. Read the article carefully before making a fool of yourself.

the only betrayer here is the Poster. Why didn't he tell his brother he had slept with the girl when he first say them together?

if you think this is some way to show loyalty, you're mistaken your broither probably loves the girl to think of marrying her. If he breaks up with her, he'll place MOST of the blame on daywalka for not telling him before he got hooked on the girl.

Amazing how Nigerians are so quick to crucify someone based on what another journalist wrote.

Was anyone there when Fani Kayode made the statement? Has this man been convicted of any crime?

Why can't we let the so promogated rule of law take its course and then we can make our own assumption then.
1. fani Kayode made this statement to the Senate, not in an obscure, covert gathering
2. It stretches credibility to think that any sane Nigerian reporter covering that event will not use a microphone and recorder to capture what was said.

I cannot understand the logic behind you 'rule of law' statement. He is not on trial for the string of air crashes. There's no 'law taking his course' here. nigerians here are merely infuriated that this man seeks to trivialize the issues behind many air crashes in Nigeria with a red herring that beggars belief.
We are here talking about rot, poor safety standards and mismanagement being behind the tragedies, yet a major player is talking about a 'blood thirsty' cult being responsible.

if his particular brand of logic appeals to you, then that's your funeral.

No easy way to send you the 2.9GB file. But why don't you use a download manager/accelerator to download it?

I presume you're using the tool found on the wiki2touch page. You can get the link to the file and download it with your download accelerator.

You have no right to make a libelous statement and call it an 'opinion'. 8 million sony batteries did not explode. hell, not even 500 batteries exploded.

By all means exchange views, ideas and opinions, but when it comes to things that can possibly be perception changers, try and verify information before you talk. There's such a thing as research. if you believed in that' you'd know that you claim that '8 million sony batteries caught fire' was not only daft, but on the verge of stupid.

Sony recalled batteries after a few isolated cases of burning batteries. That's a comapny owning up to its responsibility. The Poster has clearly shown that Zinox customer care is crap. That's proven reality.

all that is immaterial. Buying a Zinox machine is nowhere near value for money. This transcends being a Nigerian; be a consumer for Ikoro's sake!! I provided a very good example of patriotic American families boning all-amerian cares like Fords and Chevys to buy Toyotas and Hondas.

I actually feel insulted. Just because we are africans we do not have to run around like superstitious fools. The air crashes were caused by the rot in the aviation sector and people cutting safety corners, not by occultists.

The Director of Naval Intelligence is saying that the Bonga FPSO and oilfield which represents a 200000 barrel per day multibillion dollar investment from Nigeria i sleft unprotected at times?
Is he saying that in the 7 hours it takes a fast speedboat to reach the shore, the Navy had no capability to intercept the marauders? That the defense of large swathes of our shoreline is left to the presence of one ship?

Zinox sells overpriced and mediocre hardware for inflated prices. You can find FAR better deals on HPs, Sony et al.

Let's not go down the 'patronize Nigerian made' crap. We're consumers, and consumers should demand top drawer service.

People don't come any more patriotic than the Americans, yet millions of Yanks choose to buy Toyotas and Hondas over Chevys and Fords. Does that make 'em unpatriotic? It's simply a drive for value for money.

Let Zinox's quality speak for itself. At this rate, i'm not impressed with their offerings.

Throughout the world, the AK and variants are among the commonly smuggled small arms sold to governments, rebels, criminals, and civilians alike, with little international oversight. This trade ensures a ready supply of inexpensive weapons to a number of conflicts, including the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia. In some countries that are recovering from war or that are at war, prices for AKs are very low. In Somalia, Rwanda, Mozambique, Congo and Ethiopia, among others, prices are between $30–$125.[26] After the Soviet retreat from Afghanistan, the Soviet Army left huge quantities of weapons including AKs which were used in its civil war between Taliban and Northern Alliance and were also exported to Pakistan. It is now also made in Pakistan's semi-autonomous areas. It is widely used by tribes in Africa like the Hamar, amongst others.

You too take it easy. Thanx for your great respect for holders of Nigerian HND certificate. But you have not come out to tell us why on earth the HND certificate in Nigeria cannot be compared with the Bsc or BTech certificate in Nigeria. I thought the HND certificate was a Technological qualification equivalent to a Bsc or BTech certificate that was why i agreed to do the HND program. Can u tell us what the difference is between the curricula of polytechnics and universities? Can u also tell us those that do more work in academics both practical and theory?

Lastly do you think BTech certificates from polytechnics (as already proposed in Nigeria)will recieve honours and recognition like the BSc and BTech from universities?
That's the point i've been making since! the HND is not neccessarily inferior to the Beng. But there's a discrimination ongoing in Nigeria that has been on for decades.
If you genuinely thought that the HND was a tech equivalent of the Ben, my apologies to you. The point i've been making since was that though they are comparable, there has been a discrimination existing for a long time, and i assumed anyone going for a HND would already have known of this.

As for the Btech question, i'm pretty sure employers know that Btech is a renaming of the HND decree. It depends on their attitudes to stop this discrimination
