@naijaway
Please read the bleeping article! These guys weren't vandalizing the pipeline. A tractor doing road works ruptured the pipeline.

Now let's see if the NBA will launch a lawsuit against NNPC for recklessly endangering the lives of people. At least they must be good for something apart from Omotade's suit.

Please always endeavour to read first before replying. I was referring to an earlier comment from ow11 that there are no schools in the Niger Delta, and that most of these boys are illiterates or semi-literates. Why didn't you flag that comment when it was made?

I'm bringing forward opinions from people actually teaching in those areas. it's not for you to sit in London and make theories. Loads of nairalanders served in Rivers State. Interview them to find out their experiences while teaching.

Education still remains the key to move the people forward. Oil companies preferentially recruit people from the south South as long as they meet the minimum criteria. I've just heard that in the latest Shell recruitment into SITP, a huge percentage are from the South South.

Instead of railing against me, why don't you guys appeal to your people who have long decided that education isn't neccessary?

Iphone classic? Don't make me laugh.

Even if you're in a haste to propagate Apple rumours, i'd expect you'd at least start with the 3G iphone which is definitely coming out.

by the way these apple guys are crazy!

i hope they don't expect us to buy again?

ow11:
When no schools exist, how do you become literate? Now when you do not attach any value to education, how do you build schools when you grow up?

Go to Soku, Ekulama, Bukuma, Amatolo etc and look at the schools there and tell me how on earth someone can learn anything there or even appreciate education.
Please STOP! Stop spewing that age-long myth. How much does it take to establish schools? What does the state and local government do with the monies that come to them? Can you not set up a decent secondary school in a rural environment for less than 50 million naira?

I have THREE close friends serving in Rivers state. The stories they paint are of people not willing to learn anything. One teaches in a school in Buguma, where only about 8% of the SS3 class attend lectures. The rest are off bunkering and stealing. The school writes their WAEC for them. I've since confirmed that picture to be a common one in that region.

How do you discourage laziness when youths in the Buguma region are given N20k for doing nothing?

Please stop saying there are no schools. it does you a great disservice, and marks ALL Niger Delta people as failures. Schools exist in the region, but people are not that interested.

No schools my arse.
Politics › Re: British Airways Regrets Maltreatment Of Nigerians by texazzpete(m): 5:40pm On May 15, 2008
BA didn't arrest Omotade
BA didnt restrain or shackle the deportee.

BA acted well within their rights to jettison the unruly passengers. All airlines should value the safety and security of their passengers, and a plane full or angry, fist waving and finger pointing passengers is a safety hazard.

All these guys coming here to blab are too used to the molue-like system utilized by Nigerian aircraft operators, hence their fury when someone actually does the right thing.

If you really want to be patriotic, pay taxes, pay Nepa bills. In tervene when next you see MOPOL beating up innocent okada riders

EXACTLY! Why Nigerians cannot see this for the hypocrisy it is confounds me.
When women were being stripped naked in Aba for daring to wear trousers some months back, why was there no petition in NigeriaVillageSquare?

When the convoy of a state governor beat a woman in front of her kids, where was the furore?
Politics › Re: South South: A Time Bomb Waiting To Explode by texazzpete(m): 5:35pm On May 14, 2008

The tools used are crude implements, not hi-tech stuff. Hacksaws have been used to good effect in the past.

Don't decieve yourself; these guys are flush with cash from their bunkering operations, well armed and well-fed. They use swamp buggies and barges, they sell condensate for large sums of money in PH.

I found it hilarious that you talk about illiterate ijaw people. Who's fault is it that they are illiterate? Does it really cost that much to build schools?

The same attitude towards tax is what is crippling our amenities now. NEPA once said that only about half of lagos consumers pay their power bills.

You forgot to add that Niger Delta will not attract foreign investment to their sterile land as a result of oil spillage. tongue
You forgot to add that 80% of the oil spillage is caused by the people of the Niger DElta themselves, either during sabotage or during illegal bunkering.

Care to know how Pipelines are stolen? The vandals (Niger Deltans) make a cut in the pipeline, and crude gushes out. Sensors note the sudden loss of pressure, and the well closes in. Also the line to the flowstation is closed and the line is depressurized to reduce the oil spillage. As soon as crude stops flowing, the vandals cut off a large section of pipe and make away with it, leaving behind an oil spill.

I don't give a shit if the money is used well or not. It's a duty for every patriotic citizen to pay taxes to his country. No matter the misuse, some useful cash does filter down from the taxes.

You pack of traitors should stop giving whiny excuses for not doing your civic duty.

Where were you bold and brave Nigerian crusaders when Policemen were stripping females wearing trousers in Aba?
Where were you guys when Nigerian labourers were burnt alive in a Chinese sweatshop in lagos?
What do you do when you see MOPOL flogging Nigerian motorists, when you see an Okada man being forced to roll around in the mud?

When White people are arrested for snapping photos near Aso rock or in the Niger Delta, do you denounce your country for racism, considering the fact that an average Nigerian can snap innumerable photos in front of the White house, Downing street or Buckingham palace?

The Sad fact is that many people here are not even patriotic Nigerians. Check out the 'Pay Taxes' thread here in the politics section to see how many of these so-called patriots even pay their taxes.

No need for Apple to go down the Android route.

Truequest:
The incident involving Omotade was sparked off when the airline’s staff and immigration officers tried to force Augustine Eme, a MASSOB member who was being deported, to stay on board a British Airways Lagos-bound flight against his will. It was when Omotade intervened on Eme’s behalf that he was arrested.
'Tried to force a deportee aboard an airplane against his will'? What the Bleep is this shit?! Are the british police supposed to throw their hands up in despair because an unwilling deportee refuses to get on a plane?

Handcuffing deportees is standard operating procedure in most countries. Pity many Nigerians here allow their emotions get the better of them.
Politics › Re: British Airways Regrets Maltreatment Of Nigerians by texazzpete(m): 5:06pm On May 12, 2008
I'm not a lawyer, but i know the NBA's prayer to prevent BA from ever allowing Omotade's arrest for ANY issue FOREVER is pretty dumb.

Why's BA made the scapegoat here anyway? Omotade was arrested by the british Police, not BA.

To easily convert videos to iphone format, download and install kvip
http://www.thesun.co.th/kvip/download.php

kvip supports the following input formats: ASF AVI FLV MKV MOV MP4 MKV MPEG MPG RM RMVB WMV, and MPEG-1 video files from VCD, with DAT extension, so you can easily convert videos straight from VCDs.

If you need to grab video that isnt on your PC, download and install Mxtube on your iphone. You can easily do that from installer. Then use Mxtube to download videos straight from Youtube without a PC.

Please don't get started on Fani kayode. That lout should be quartered for his ineffectiveness in Nigeria's service.

That story about the Ibru guy doesn't strike me as maltreatment in anyway. The guy was disturbing other passengers in the first class compartment, who paid top dollar to enjoy their flight. WTF has that got to do with 'maltreatment'?

So long as you're not the one using the 'boycott' line, eh?

The original 'reason' for the boycott was to 'start taking a stand against maltreatment of Nigerians', wasn't it? Why is there so much ire when good Nigerians start pointing out scenarios where Nigerians are 'maltreated' within Nigeria?

Should we adapt the original rational with the caveat that boycott is only a viable option so long as caucasians are involved? after all, nigerians are in hard, inhumane labour for indians and Chinese sweatshops in Lagos, yet no peep from you sanctimonous people.

YOU do research about businesses. The Nigerian Govt owns 60% of some jointly operated concessions with Chevron Nigeria, not 60% of Chevron Nigeria. Chevron Nigeria belongs to the Chevron group.

Is it the same Government that kept under-reporting the death toll that you'd trust to distribute all that money and materiel efficiently?

many of these Un aid workers are very skilled in handling this kind of circumstance, it's pure stupidity to take this kind of line.

Even the Russian Government under Vladimir Putin sought foreign help from western countries to enable it rescue the crew of a sunk submarine, after an initial delay.

Dammit!

besides, we need to stop to wonder why it's always Black guys that are the suspects, the armed criminals etc.

If Blacks in the US aren't a force to reckon with, which race is currently propelling Obama in scooping the popular vote? Asian?

This guy was caught having sex with a goat in his house. POlice arrested him. They then proceeded to strip him naked at the station and placed him in the position for sensationalist effect.

But that wasn't maltreatment, eh? because

1. it's Nigeria, hence it's above criticism
2. No whites were involved.

Note the guy in the background with the iron rod. No doubt it was used to gently caress his skin grin

Politics › Re: Sean Bell Trial Verdict by texazzpete(m): 8:47am On May 08, 2008
@redsun, Spermdrops

Don't you just LOVE to take the moral high ground? the guys getting beaten there were not stopped for traffic violation, or because they were drinking and driving. the three guys pulled from the car had just shot three people who were being observed by under cover drug agents in the neighbourhood. Add to that the fact that a fellow police officer had been shot dead two days before by an armed criminal, and you can see why these guys would be pretty ticked off at any armed suspect.

it's a sad world we live in; three criminals get beaten and there's a hell of a media storm. Two days before a Police officer was shot and killed, it didnt even make any headlines.

it's pretty rich for people comig from a country where suspects are paraded naked, where motorists can be pulled from their cars and horsewhipped to start pointing fingers.
Hypocrisy does stink to high heavens.
