A playstation mad teenager?!
Do i really come across to you as a teenager? I dare say i'm older than you are.

But then again age isn't important here. I write better than you do, I compose my arguments FAR better than you do, and I employ logic in my discussions as against your twisted diatribes.

racism does exist in the US, but it is on the wane. The link i placed from BA in another article clearly indicated that racial slurs are more common from the older generation who grew up in a more racist environment.
most of the current crop of white youths grew up idolizing black athletes like Michael Jordan, Black musicians like Kanye West and Puffy. They've come up in a world where the Black man has increased profile.
Check Obama's progress for example. Do you know what segment constitutes a large segment of his voting bloc? The young college and university students!

Racism will eventually die out. it's been on the decline since and it will tail off eventually until the stupid few who stick to it are in the minority and they will be despised for it.
However, people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do not help matters by constantly forcing racism into the fore, by reading racism into everything.
The cops in this case were clearly not driven by racism. however i feel that racial stereotyping may have been at play in the initial suspicion of the Bell entourage. There's some form of stereotyping in suspecting a group of black guys stumbling out from the strip club as being up to no good.
Speaking of racial stereotyping, your words
redsun:
.An average whiteman is born and programme to hate,it is an everyday occurrence,
are an excellent example. I genuinely am puzzled why you do not feel the stench of hypocrisy when you utter those words.

It might be worthwile to remember that the Judge acquitted the cops of criminal wrongdoing. The cops most likely panicked and may have been too hasty and too reckless in opening fire (due to panic), but there was no indication that they did so with any criminal (read: murder) intent. The possibility of a civil suit is still open, and i fully expect the Bell family to Sue the NYPD and get a decent compensation AND an apology. An unarmed man is dead, and someone has to pay for it. Unlike you, however, i'm not baying for blood.

Now let me school you and everyone here who has a warped opinion on racism: Racism is independent on colour or race. Anyone can be racist. Dictionary.com defines racism as

n.
The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

Can you honestly tell me that this description doesn't fit what you've been saying since?

redsun:
probably born in america to a single hustling parent, with a very loose foundation in terms of fundamentals, thus, confused identity.
I have said this many times on this forum, and given that there are many idiots like you, i probably will have to say this many more times.
I have never been to the continental US. I have travelled through europe a couple of times, but i've not really been thrilled to go to the US yet. I live and work in Nigeria, and i pay taxes to the Nigerian government. It pays for you to do some research into your targets before you start the rain of abuses.
If you had had a normal childhood in Nigeria, you'd know where the name texazzpete came from.
So please, all you shambling, wannabe revolutionaries can stop calling me derogatory names. It really does show how childish you can get. if you're going to insult me, at least have the courtesy to do it with good english, ok?

Born in America my arse. hell, i don't even do the US visa lottery. grin

Just for the record, while i'm not a teenager, I do have a Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii. Add to that a PSP and a Nintendo DS. Even with all these (which i rarely play anyway), based on your writings it's obvious i've got a far better grasp on reality than you do.

Blatant:
There will come a time in life (I pray it will be soon) when some people on this thread will need some form of support from Nigerians as a united front and they'll reach to find none because they never see when their brothers and sisters need support. They only ever see evil in their brothers and sisters
This should be a discussion about an alleged miscarriage of justice, instead of it being used by hatemongers to promote racial tensions and disunity.

I don't know about 'brothers and sisters', but i can see great evil in YOU, Mr. blatant. Keep praying for evil to befall me, it'll never happen. If i need support from my fellow Nigerians, rest assured i will not turn to you and your ilk.

Now, let me throw down the gauntlet and challenge you: Show posts from nairaland from me showing me damning my 'brothers and sisters' as being evil, or forever remain a loud-mouthed retard.
In my numerous disputes on NL, i have come to dislike some people somewhat. However i never let this colour my reactions to articles up for discussion, preferring instead to use logic to analyse issues as they come. I suggest you do the same. Life is a learning opportunity, and even a known rabble-rouser like yourself can prove useful in the unlikely event that you start using your brains.

50 Bullets, No Conviction

Published: April 26, 2008
A State Supreme Court justice’s decision to acquit three police detectives in the November 2006 death of an unarmed man was stunning in its thorough absolution of the officers who fired 50 bullets at Sean Bell and two companions as they sat in a car outside a strip club.

Justice Arthur Cooperman found the three — even one officer who reloaded his gun to squeeze off 31 rounds — not guilty of all charges of manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment.

As all New Yorkers should, we respect Justice Cooperman’s verdict, but we do not believe all questions of accountability were resolved. Mr. Bell’s family has said it plans to pursue a civil lawsuit, and federal prosecutors are examining the case. We hope they bring answers.

Large questions remain about the New York Police Department. In recent years, when police have killed unarmed men, they have been, almost without exception, black. The detectives on trial said that they believed Mr. Bell, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield had a gun, and based on that suspicion they fired away. No gun was found. Similarly, in 1999 police fired 41 bullets at Amadou Diallo, an unarmed African immigrant who was just reaching for his wallet. The acquittal of four police officers after that killing, which occurred during the racially challenged leadership of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, set off unrest in which scores were arrested.

Anger and disappointment are understandable now, but New York’s leadership has changed, and community activists need to absorb that fact before they attempt to heat up reaction. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly are trying to correct the conditions that led to the Bell shooting, changes that take time and good faith on all sides. Both men have kept a schedule of outreach to minority communities.

Progress has been steady. After the Bell shooting, Mr. Kelly ordered an independent study of department firearms training by the Rand Corporation. The results should be available soon. The commissioner hopes to prevent “reflexive shooting” after one officer fires an initial shot. Detective Michael Oliver alone managed to fire 31 of the 50 rounds toward Mr. Bell’s car — all in the few seconds following an initial shot from Gescard Isnora.

The commissioner is also reforming undercover operations, including requiring breathalyzer tests after an officer fires a weapon. In the Bell shooting, undercover officers said that they stayed within the allowed limit of two alcoholic beverages, but they were not tested.

The margin of error once shooting begins has become distressingly small. The police have come to favor fast, easy-to-fire weapons like 9-millimeter semiautomatics. The rule that an officer is to pause and reassess after three shots can be forgotten in the heat of gunplay.

We also wonder why the police continue to put themselves and others in harm’s way with undercover operations at places like strip clubs. The club where Mr. Bell spent the night before his scheduled wedding was reputed to be a haven for prostitutes, drug dealers and gun traders. We suspect that it and others like it have health- or fire-code violations that could shut them, without deadly risk.

In his verdict, Justice Cooperman indicated that he found no carelessness or incompetence that rose “to the level of criminal acts.” We respect that judgment as a matter of law, but we see both carelessness and incompetence in the behavior of the police officers that must be corrected as a matter of public policy.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/a-world-of-casual-racism-exposed-at-ba-815842.html

A senior British Airways pilot reveals today the startling levels of casual racism in the flagship UK company, which once famously claimed to be "the world's favourite airline".

Captain Doug Maughan, who has 28 years' flying experience, including 15 years with BA, says that derogatory remarks about race by his colleagues are so common they are treated as normal.

Mr Maughan, a serving pilot who captains BA aircraft to all parts of the world, has decided to go public with his complaints after struggling to persuade BA's management to take racism among its senior staff seriously. He has complained by email to BA's chief executive, Willie Walsh, but says no action was taken.

His allegations are an acute embarrassment for the airline which carries 36 million passengers a year; operates out of airports in every continent; and could plausibly claim to be one of Britain's most high-profile companies. The airline is already threatened with a boycott by Nigerians flying to and from the UK.

Mr Maughan alleges that racism is a "generational" problem – common among middle-aged pilots, but rare among younger pilots.

He lodged his first complaint after hearing a senior training captain use the word "coon" during a training session on a flight simulator – but says that no action was taken.

"There was the time when we set off for Los Angeles with a large party of Saudis on board, who had joined us at Heathrow direct from the VIP lounge," he added. "In the cruise, my captain suddenly embarked on an extraordinary rant about 'rag-heads'. He got the word out twice before I stopped him by explaining he was going to be short of a first officer for the return sector if he carried on."

Mr Maughan, who lives in Dunblane, Perthshire, was on another flight when a fellow flight officer complained that there were too many Asians in Britain. "The captain turned to me and said: 'I don't suppose there are many of them up your way.' I replied: 'Well, there's my wife.' After that, they had the decency to fall silent," he said.

He has also complained about abusive emails sent to him by a fellow pilot, who is English. One of the emails said: "Come separation, will all Jocks F. off to that Welfare State (paid for by English middle classes)huh Please say yes."

Mr Maughan, 53, is so exasperated by what he sees as BA management's refusal to tackle the problem that he is planning a protest at this year's annual shareholders' meeting. "It's what I'd call a canteen culture," he said. "It seems to be accepted that people are going to make racist remarks and get away with it. The phrase 'institutional racism' has been so over-used as to be almost worthless, but I have to say that racism is as prevalent now in BA as it was in the RAF 25 years ago.

"What is common among white flying crew in BA is the use of mildly derogatory, sometimes jokey, language about other races, mainly aimed at black and Asian groups. Because it's so common, it's hard to tackle: it's , the norm and rarely even noticed."

BA said: "All British Airways employees must adhere to our policies concerning dignity at work. Under these policies we encourage employees to report incidences of racism, sexism or any other behaviour that they deem offensive or inappropriate. Any reports of such behaviour are taken extremely seriously and investigated as a matter of priority. Captain Maughan has a duty as an employee to provide details of any alleged inappropriate behaviour direct to the airline."

Mr Maughan's revelations come as BA's treatment of Nigerian passengers threatens to have diplomatic repercussions. Robert Dewar, the British high commissioner to Nigeria, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be warned that Nigeria expects its citizens to be treated with "dignity". And a meeting between BA representatives and the director general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demuren, broke up when Dr Demuren objected that BA had slighted him by sending junior managers.

Nigeria's President, Umaru Yar'Adua, has ordered an investigation into an incident at Heathrow in which 136 passengers were turned off a BA flight to Lagos. It developed as immigration officers and BA staff were trying to force a man who was being deported to stay on board against his will. The deportee, Augustine Eme, is a member of Massob, a banned organisation in Nigeria campaigning for independence for the region of Biafra.

A fellow passenger, Ayodeji Omotade, from Chatham, objected to Mr Eme's treatment and was arrested. Mr Omotade's arrest triggered more protests, until the BA captain ordered every passenger in economy class off the plane. BA has defended the decision to empty the aircraft saying that it was legally obliged to carry passengers such as Mr Eme. It said a large number of passengers on flight BA75 on 27 March became disruptive; that it was not possible to pinpoint which ones were involved; and that the police and crew agreed it could pose a safety risk to allow them to stay on board.

Please apply not only logic, but human feeling to your argument. Losing children is bound to be a traumatizing experience, and if your friend's presence indirectly led to the deaths of your children, you'll tend to hold it against them in some way. Especially when the said friend was the one that suggested that the kids move to the car they were eventually killed in.

The woman has tried by at least not hating iYabo. but blaming her for not being all chummy with iyabo is totally out of this world.

1. She was in her own car with her kids until Iyabo came in and suggested that the kids move to her (iyabo's) car

2. the kids were killed by bullets meant for iyabo

That means, while Iyabo has no compulsion to do anything, it's only decent that she at least shows some interest and support for the memorial foundation. Simple as that. It doesn't neccessarily mean she's doing a cheap hustle to make money.
This interview wasn't a random discussion to pull her down. it's actually the 5th year anniversary of her children's deaths. People tend to relive tragedies on the anniversaries.

Go find out what makes brave soldiers crack. Read all about shell shock to know what makes hardened veterans stumble aimlessly on a battlefield. Everyone has his limits, training notwithstanding.

Benitez wary of Drogba drama

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez wants the officials in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg at Chelsea to clamp down on what he sees as Didier Drogba's theatrics.

Benitez believes Blues striker Drogba goes down far too easily.

'With Drogba, it's important to have a good referee,' the Spaniard said.

'You can't do anything, but I will say it because it was so clear. He is amazing because he is massive.

'It's very impressive. I have a lot of clips of him from over the years and he surprises me. After four years, I expected it.'

Benitez revealed he had compiled clips of Drogba during Liverpool's numerous matches against Chelsea since he became manager.

The Spaniard was unhappy at what he perceives as preferential treatment for the striker at Anfield in Tuesday night's first leg.

'We've played against Chelsea 19 games and every time I have collected some clips of Drogba,' Benitez explained.

'I have shown them to some of the players. I think that (Martin) Skrtel and Carra (Jamie Carragher) were really good against him the other day, the only problem was the referee was giving fouls. And it was not the same with (Fernando) Torres.'

Perhaps, BigB1, you may choose that moment to carefully tuck your gun in the most unreachable place om your person, but most normal human beings will definitely prefer to have their weapon on hand.
But hey, what do i know? Perhaps you're one tough dude that isn't afraid of guns. Perhaps your concept of real danger is when you're facing an Abrams tank bare-handed. For most other people, that situation could easily represent danger.

Big B1:
If I have to use my gun, I would follow the official protocol : "shoot twice, pause, and observe the situation"
Good. A car's racing towards you, with the intent (you think) to run you down. Inside that car you suspect there are weapons, and the action of the occupants seems to confirm that. Knowing fully well that there are multiple occupants of the vehicle, any of which may be drawing a bead on you, would you

a) fire twice, and then thoughfully pause to examine the results of your phenomenal accuracy (no doubt helped by your ability to slow time down)

b) Fire rapidly at the vehicle, to try and kill the occupants before they kill you?

Because single shot guns are extinct!

Seriously, Most semi-automatics fire in burst mode. You can fire a burst of 3 bullets or so with a single pull of the trigger. Panicking cops could have easily kerked the trigger several times.

@Big B1

You're in such a hurry to denounce my logic that you fail to comprehend what i'm saying.
yes cops should be selfless, but in that Selflessness must be common sense. Our police aren't sent out to die, they are there to solve crime optimally, which means get the best result with the least number of casualties. Any Cop knows his duty is to do his job and return back safe and alive to his family.
When it comes to my life for that of a perp, i know what i'd do.

What you're saying is you expect Police to be perfect. But no one is, not even highly trained personnel. Do we now jail these cops because they aren't perfect, while conveniently forgetting that the victims made a move that triggered the violent reaction?

So answer this question. If you were an armed police man, and 3 people you thought were armed were driving a 2-ton vehicle at you, with the (perceived) intention to ram you, what would you do?

if you were firing blind at a vehicle racing towards you, and you knew there were three men in the car, in all likelihood drawing a bead on you with guns, how many bullets would you fire? One? three?

Rumours of 3g and GPS? shocked shocked IN THE SECOND QUARTER OF 2008?

**chuckles** **Kisses and Hugs my N95**

I've had those on my 95 for ages now and i am even bored with it.

Dont you dare come up with that 'abysmal battery life' line-nokia came up with a better and longer lasting battery for the 95 few months ago. grin
lol. We've been down the route before. The iPhone and N95 really do bring different things to the table, with the iPhone's media player, web browser and user interface head and shoulders above that touted int he N95. The N95 has some features the iPhone could never match, such as 3G and GPS. However, this new revision will bring both devices about level in those areas, while still retaining the features the N95 could never hope to match.

As for the camera, it's adequate. i've got a 10 megapixel camera (casio Exilim). If i'm going to any serious occasion, that's what i'd take along. i'll leave the phone megapixel count to undergraduates and teenagers. grin
At least iphone owners don't need multiple button presses to zoom into any image grin

Don't argue with me, girl. You sound/talk like someone i'd like in the (extremely) unlikely event we ever meet.

@funkybaby
That's untrue. many apps can be downloaded manually and copied over to the iphone through the USB connection. The WiFi method is definitely easier and more n00b friendly, especiall;y as permissions don't need to be set usually.

As far as am concerned, no body should disturb Robert Mugabe. He is a true african soldier, not like other leaders that are betrayals due to their incessant travelling to the
western nations, is not easy for a president to deny himself so many rights which he
MUGABE has down, please lets give him a chance to soft land, may be after BUSH has
gone out of power.

When next you put a loaf of bread in your mouth, think of what Zimbabweans have to go through to bite into one of those loaves. Think of how, when you hand over N120 to buy a big loaf, your Zimbabwean counterparts pay 40 million dollars for the same thing.

But that's the issue, isn't it? Like most idealistic young fools, YOU DON'T REALLY STOP TO THINK OF OTHERS!

@BigB1

Noone talking about choice here. i'm saying Cops are human beings who very much want to stay alive. Any cop with a deathwish is a bad cop, simple as that. Please learn to stop, think and READ before jumping to conclusions.

Please don't derail this discussion by dragging Iraq into it. Too many bad vibes from that subject matter.

Engadget Just Got this info from a 'trusted source'

So we've got it on authority that the second-gen iPhone is already well into testing, and numerous units are floating around in super secret pockets. A trusted source got a chance to check one out, here's what we've heard.
The first thing people will notice: the 2nd gen iPhone will be about the same size and shape as the first gen.
It will, of course, have 3G. And proper GPS!
The most noticeable physical difference is back of the phone is no longer metal -- the whole thing is glossy black, from top to bottom. The volume buttons are now chrome.
Because it's got a little less metal to deal with, it doesn't have quite as many angular edges. The battery is (still) not removable.
The phone itself will be slightly thicker than the first gen device.
The headphone jack will no longer be recessed, and will finally be flush with the body.
The device itself uses roughly the same size and resolution screen as the first generation product.
No solid word on battery life or storage capacity.
It could ship (or be introduced) as early as July -- but it's worth noting that none of this is necessarily finalized, and any of it could change between now and its introduction. You really never know with Apple!

3G is a no-brainer, but if GPS is actually in the package, that's some good stuff!
