ahhh. . . .
Indomie!!! This heaven sent thingy saved my life during my NYSC, especially since i couldn't cook at all.

My favourite recipe:

Cook indomie any way u possibly can
Strain away the excess water ( i just wasn't able to cook indomie without it being waterlogged at the end)
Put cooked indomie between slices of bread

Wolf mixture down, stopping only to gulp down a hi-protein drink (fresh milk was my preferred brew)

Simple!

funny you talk about disgrace: Arsenal stood disgraced the moment Liverpool beat their conquerors PSV (3-0) in their own house!

ah. the obligatory chelski fan. We all agree man utd play badly last nite, but which of the two teams are gonna achieve their target this year? Chelski put the champs league as their priority, man utd stated that the league was their priority.

now? Chelski have all but lost the league and the champs league! We're firmly on target. If we agree we played badly, Chelski have missed chances from the 6 yard box in their last 3 matches. against bolton, newcastle and liverpool your strikers have fired over the bar or horribly miscued from 6 yards out. and this is the team you dare to hold up as an example?

One side spent almost $100 million just to win the champs league (shevchenko, ballack). yet they failed. so who's the sissy team, nyugga?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: What Happened To Manchester United? by texazzpete(m): 4:39pm On May 03, 2007
united played badly last nite. big deal. defeat always hurts, i know. but let me tell you what hurts more.

TRUTH

Because the truth is, these Arse-anal fans here know in thier bones that they and their darling team are of no real consequence. While cockroaches bask and romp in their sparsely populated trophy cabinets, united will be adding at least ONE MAJOR trophy to their cabinet this year. two if we win the FA cup, three if we eventually go ahead to pip chelski for the community shield.

the rabble rouser who likes putting quotes on this thread (loyika) should please find it in his bitter heart to place the links to all the times when Sir Alex has proclaimed that the premier league title remains our No. 1 priority. We've been sayin that for ages now, and now we're on the verge of going through with our plans. If Arse-anal can actually do some good and beat or draw chelski (don't really trust these pathetic gunners sha) we'll clinch it this weekend. the champs league would have been a rich icing on the cake, but even then, we'll be very happy winning the league and the FA cup.

Gloat all you like, Arse-anal fans. Like i said, when you think abt it, there's nothing really 2 gloat about. and the truth will always hurt.

So. . . go prove you aren't entirely competent. Beat/draw chelski if you can.

@Red_lips

What i said:
And just because YOU, like most other Nairaland babes (apparently!), don't like the idea (and have marriage-ready suitors dangling from trees in your compound) doesn't mean she has to dump him without at least taking time out for a loooooong bout of soul-searching.

What you said:
and im not even going to bother with your cynical remark about how girls go around looking for ready made.

Does your assumption match what i said? My statement was supposed to imply that just because many gals here have lots of suitors on their neck doesn't mean she's got alternatives. I thought this much should be obvious, i fail to understand the thought process that converted that statement to 'girls are looking for ready made husbands'.
'marriage ready' is another obvious term used to capture the increasingly small percentage of suitors who've given up playing the field and are determined to settle down. As many of my female friends have told me, the biggest problem many of them face is identifying which of their male toasters are serious. I cannot for the life of me see how that translated into girls looking for 'ready made'. Whatever.

Thanks for clarifying your stand on this issue, i agree with you that dishonesty isn't the best thing. but it isnt always an indication that the guy will always be dishonest. Lots of people have looked beyond that and have gone on to live happy married lives. yes, the guy was cowardly but is that enough reason to hang the guy, especially if he really genuinely loves her?
There are 2 kinds of regret here. You guys are telling her to dump the guy in case she regrets it after she marries him. but what if she dumps him and later comes to regret it? What if she meets someone not nearly as good as he is, and perhaps worse. there are guys who beat their wives. Hell, some gals here have boyfriends who beat them. but i digress. . .

as per your comments on my relationship, you're misinformed. i never did say she hates when females call me, it only makes her uneasy at times, and i take great pains to discuss with her at all times. hell, SHE wields the true power in the house, how else can you explain why a die hard football fan like myself would willingly forgo any match that falls within her 'Gardener's daughter' time? but once again, i digress. . .

i guess the main reason i complain about what d gals  say here is that it's all supposed to be advice. And it's about marriage. Everything given here should be well thought out. . .
because, my dear, if dumping him is the wrong move, then she'll feel the same regret y'all are trying so hard for her not to feel.

my friend's girlfriend dumped him 5 years ago. now, he's all big and prosperous and doing very well. She? she's eaten up by regret everytime she sees him. Why'd she dump him? her pals advised her to cos the guy 'wasn't cute enuff'. It happens. .

oh please. . . there are none so shameless as Arse-Anal fans. Here you've got a crappy club playing for third place, so far away from the league leaders, it's shameful.
Ask yourselves why Arse-Anal weren't in the quarterfinals sef, not to talk of making it to the semis.

The only thing Arse-anal could be good for is to at least get a draw against Chelski this weekend. and please, tell ur Whiney coach to stop tryin to keep giving youth as an excuse whenever he falls to chelski.

I pity arsenal fans, dem dey talk say dem dey groom their team for next season, as if the small boys for the team go suddenly gain years and experience in the few months between this season and the next.

Fate can be cruel. Once-proud Arse-anal fans have been reduced to ghouls haunting man utd and chelski threads, praying for ill fortune for them. . .

I didnt know wanting to be the mother of your husband's first child was a horrible thing *rolls eyes* I didnt know you had to have children outside first to be considered a "marriage ready" man.
I've looked over my post and i can't see where i made any such assertion. all i was driving at, which should be obvious to anyone, is that it isn't that easy to find love, especially a lasting enduring love to last a lifetime. anyone who glibly suggests husband-material guys are everywhere is spewing untruths.
I've never made any wisecrack about girls seeking ready made husbands. Please confront me on this if i'm wrong.
Of course you're not going to "demonize" the guy. I've noticed that when you go on your tirade about how "cruel" the females of Nairaland are when it comes to certain topic.you always do this in threads where the topic is about a guy being in the wrong, that's when you come to the rescue but when it's a female you're either no where to be found or you claim that they hang the girl up so like i said earlier give me a break with that bull
I've never used the word 'cruel' either. actually i prefer to use the word cynical. And that's because the way many of you NL gals talk, you'd think y'all actually believe all men are evil liars. I mean, it's cool to say it, but to actually mean it. . .
The truth is, most of the topics i've commented on doesn't even HAVE the men in the wrong. it has the men in a situation that's percieved wrong. And most of the girls here show how cynical they are by instantly recommending knee-jerk, poorly thought out decisions. no one wants to know if the guy's just been misunderstood, all i see here is instant judgement.
How else can you describe 80% of the female responders to a topic telling the girl to dump the 'cheating bastard'. The guy's crime? Receiving phone calls from several females. Hell, i've got plenty close female friends (my best friend's even a girl). does that make me a cheat? When they call, knowing that at times it makes my girl uneasy, i leave the room to talk 2 them. No matter that i love my girlfriend/fiancee, if she goes on Nairaland to complain, YOU will be in the vanguard of girls here telling her to 'dump the guy'. Cynical.

I cannot for the life of me think of anywhere i stated that they 'hang the girl' as you claim. where did you get that from?
and people are only saying leave now so she wouldnt be miserable. It's one thing to have a kid outside, it's another when the mother is still constantly on his jock. Everyone knows how most Nigerian females are. That's how they are all happy in their relationship and all of a sudden one afternoon the woman could come out of no where screaming about how his first born needs food or school fees etc aned making her (the new girl) feel bad because she had his kid first. I don't know about you but i wouldnt wish such a situation on anyone.
and how do the people know for sure that she'd be miserable? Simple! They DON'T! and you don't know for sure that the mother of the boy'll come 'screaming' for food or money. the way i see it, this guy'll cheerfully pay up for such costs, and if the ex gets married, he doesn't need to keep up the upkeep. Why assume the guy's dirt poor anyway.
also, you generalize too much. that's weird. not every female will feel bad because she didn;t have her husband's kids first. how do people who marry widowers do it? People even adopt kids in Nigeria now, so it isn't all doom and gloom. if i met a girl i loved wildly, i'd marry her even if she had a kid first.
I don't know about you but i wouldnt wish such a situation on anyone.
I don't know about you, but it's kinda dumb to automatically assume that the poster's situation would degenerate into this if she goes ahead with the wedding.
My aunt's friend, her brother was in the same situation, he tried to keep it away for a while but after 7 months when the boy was talking about how serious he wanted to be with the girl, the family made it clear that if he didnt tell her about his kid before any kind of engagement arrangement that they will do it for him. He told her and the girl stayed. They couldnt bear to have her around not knowing the whole situation. THAT is what I call a real family. Real parents. Parents with common sense. I find it odd that no one felt to tell the girl before. Whoever said that if she were indeed close with the family, she would have known sooner is right.
Fine! They didnt tell her. but you've just given a situation where a girl stayed with her man notwithstanding the fact that she wasn't the one that gave him his first child (which, according to you, is a major disadvantage). The only thing different in this case and that of the topic is that he told her the truth himself. But what if we could now say that he didnt tell her because he was afraid of losing her? You've seen a case of this almost happening, yet the marriage went ahead. why not allow yourself to think outside the box and stop judging this case with stereotypical prejudices?

Me, i have nothing to gain from all this. My policy still remains to spread the message of hope and good cheer everywhere i can, and to apply logic to all problems i tackle. I'm not saying the poster should marry the guy, i'm not saying she should dump the guy. all i'm saying is she should do some serious soul searching and do what's best for her, because as far as i'm concerned, whenever it comes to judging a guy's case here on NL, these cynical gals here always give the same advice without even thinking : Dump the dude!

By Tha Way, i've tried to present my case with as much logical reasoning as i can muster. It's fine if you disagree, it's a free world, afterall. But labelling everything i say that you don't agree with 'Bull' isn't nice. Refrain/Desist.

Oseka:
hard decision espiecially if u really love him.look before u leap though n make d right decision.wish u all da best.
exactly! It's gotta be a hard and well thought out decision (especially if she really loves the guy). I suspect every one of these NL gals here know that it ain't that easy to snag a marriageable guy.

@Red_Lips,
Look, all i'm doing is trying not to automatically demonise the guy. Everyone has their reasons for keeping secrets (even the big ones!) and the sooner the girl in question works to pry these reasons from the guy, the better.
Not telling his fiancee about a baby he had for his ex doesn't make him a cheat or wife beater or anything evil or terrible. Perhaps the guy has plans in motion for the upkeep of the boy. If he's as nice and friendly to the ex as the poster says, why would there be an all-revealing bust-up with the ex? Also, don't forget that in very many cases, impregnating someone means marriage. If the guy didn't wanna marry the ex and he chose the poster, doesn't that mean she's his choice? I mean, why didnt he marry d ex, especially since they remain pretty close pals?

marrying a man with a child from another woman isn't something every women would want, but it sure isn't an untenable situation. And just because YOU, like most other NL babes (apparently!), don't like the idea (and have marriage-ready suitors dangling from trees in your compound) doesn't mean she has to dump him without at least taking time out for a loooooong bout of soul-searching.

It could be a deal breaker. . . but then, it may not be!

as to your comment about guys, it's a known fact that guys are a whole lot less forgiving than women when it comes to perceived betrayals. That's a known fact so you can't compare guys' reactions and babes' reactions!

My jobhuh?

As I speak it consists of studying and passing exams enough to bag an M.Sc degree.

In my normal life, my job involves making sure that oil fields are developed in an economical way and that oil wells are producing in an optimal manner (this is a very narrow description). If I start describing all the different parts, it's going to take a lot.

I absolutely love my job as it enables me to use my greatest strength which is my analytical ability. I love the travels, the sense of adventure when I get to go to remote places (there are days when I travel by road, airplane, helicopter and boat all in the same day).

Most importantly, I love it because I believe the pay is reasonable. I'll be miserable if I have all of the above with a miserable pay grin

The only part I hate is having to go to the field and maybe 2 of you are going to work and you have to go with more than 10 soldiers with tactical security plans, chase boats, guns everywhere etc. I found it amusing at first but grew to hate it with time.
I do exactly the same thing! i'm a reservoir engineer. . .
tezapete is busy going on some tangent about age. How does one lying about age compare to lying about children?
Dude, you said there are some girls who don't find a dude having children a big deal and you are right which is why he shold have just let it all out from day one and if she decides to still stay with him. That's fine. Not to rope her in with a proposal THEN finally tell her such a thing. How malicious.
Same principle (which is what i said) doesn't neccessarily mean same thing (what you inferred).
Second point is, the guy didn't exactly tell her, did he? Stop trying at all costs to paint the guy as one malicious demon that waited until they were about getting married before telling her. She found out by accident. Perhaps the guy never intended her to find out, which would make sense if he was desperate to keep her, yet simultaneously desperate to keep her away from pain. I cannot say with any certainty!

Hell, how many wives are comfortable with their husbands being friendly with their ex girlfriends? I certainly don't blame the guy for misleading her about the closeness between him and his ex. It's bad enough that she's already reading his text messages behind his back, don't you think she'd have gone nuclear if the guy told her he'd remained friendly with his ex?

9/10 of situations like this, most of the girls here on NL parrot the same advice:
"Dump the dude and find another! "

even without finding out all the facts. People sure are cynical here.

My advice? Dialogue. The Knee-Jerk reaction favoured by many of the babes here is not recommended. Someone ought to stop raving and start doing some serious soul-searching, the key thing is to figure out if she can cope with another gal's baby. If not, then and only then should she walk away.

It isn't always easy to get a relationship that'd lead to marriage. One of the prettiest girls i've ever met is desperately looking for a husband now, most of the guys she meets are just playas. Don't let anybody decieve you, husband material isn't everywhere. Could be 5 years, could be 3 years, could be NEVER before she finds love again. . .

What were u doing reading his text messages? naughty!

i swear i haven't seen so many self-righteous people until i got to nairaland! Everyone has secrets, and 7 out of 10 guys will keep a secret from the people they love if they think it'll lead to a collapse in the relationship.
And the truth is, many of y'all can't marry a man who has a child from a previous marriage, that's all fine and good, but many girls don't see the big deal in that too. So i feel it's a lot better to find out from the girl in question if the baby boy is a deal breaker as far as the wedding is concerned.

Also, the initial post isn't worded clearly at all. It's difficult (for me!) to make out if the guy and the ex are still seeing each other. If (as i think) they're not , then what does it matter if the ex loves the guy or not?

many many men and women lie about their age before marriage. Same principle!

I agree with most of the stuff the first poster put out. An LCD TV's ok, but if you don't need it to play HD games (ps3, xbox 360) or you don't have an upscaling DVD player then an LCD tv's a waste of hard earned cash, since we don't have HD broadcast in Nigeria.
i'm a gadget freak, so my place will prolly be dolled up with gadgets everywhere, with an AppleTV, Ps3, Xbox360 and Wii hooked up to the TV, a nice home theatre sound system, split unit A/Cs in every room, a well stocked fridge (except for booze. . i never touch da devil's brew. . .)

Naturally, i'd hack my AppleTv to run Mac OSX on my 32 inch LCD. Also, i've installed Linux on my PS3, so i'll also be able to run linux on the TV. .

Some Nigerians Run Their Mouths To Impress Foreign Media A times. I Wonder Whom They Are Trying To Impress.

It Neva Ceases To Amaze Me How Some of Us Try To Impress These Westerners. Good We Have Issues, But Do They Run Perfect Systems Too.?

We Are Getting Our Acts Together And Would Emerge Soon. This Is Scary To Them, Much Like the Asian Tigers Scare Them With Their "Roaring" Economic Booms. What about the Failed "Blair War Project"?

I Wonder What BBC Intends To Achieve With Their "Instigative" Rather Than Investigative Journalism. Do They Think We'd Go To War.?

I Thot They Were Smarter. Now I Know Better.

What Do They Even Have As A Nation?

All They Do Is To Establish Colonies And Neo-Colonies And Parasite On Them. They Have An Eye For Oil. Oil Vampires.

Parasitic Caucasians!!
I think the most important question we need to ask ourselves is, do we really want Nigeria to progress? DO we?
Because i really think it's attitudes like yours that drag the country down even further. I mean, there's no difference between your attitude and that of the PDP spin doctors that keep on painting everything in a positive light. I witnessed the elctions in Lagos and i was in benin during the aftermath of the announcement of the PDP 'victory' there, i was in Port Harcourt for the presidential elections also. This election stands out as probably the worst ever, and there's no doubt in my mind about this.
How can you whitewash an election where millions failed to vote? 80% of the registered voters in Anambra couldnt vote. a large number of registered voters in many others states including Delta couldn't vote. massive rigging took place indiscriminately, intimidation was the order of the day.
We need these foreign pressmen to watch and condemn. we need all the criticism so we can build from it. Yet you take this shameful attitude of condemning outside criticisms of the electoral process.
All people like you do is advocate that we wait and see. What the hell do you mean by "we are getting our act together"? We're not! We're sliding further and further into anarchy, corruption is the order of the day and thuggery is becoming a part of every election. We're getting worse! Nigeria's never going to get greater at this pace, in fact we'll slip further into chaos. And this isn't a pessimistic poin tof view, this is a realistic point of view.

Before anyone comes forward to challenge my assertions, do what i did; sit back and think of what is possibly going to improve/redeem Nigeria. Consider the fact that the youth are even more corrupt than the elders (our near total acceptance of yahoo boys points to this), more prone to violence, more tribalistic and more morally corrupt.

We need all the exposure we can get on this negative practices. we need to work on educating our youth on the evils of electoral thuggery. we need to improve our electoral practices, and appoint unbiased people as INEC chairmen. we need to remind our new leaders that we know what they did, how they rigged, we need to shame some people in this country into decency.

What we do not need is to hide our heads in the sand and cast blame on outsiders and the west. That is what Mobutu focuses on doing, leading his country to a 1700% inflation while heaping blame on the West. It is his way, and it was Idi Amin's before him.

Think about this; before the elections, voters were disillusioned, many refused to register or vote feeling that their votes would not count. Now they have been proved right, how many people will register to vote in 2011?

I'm shocked that someone who stays in Abuja and who voted at 10am could use that as a benchmark for the conduct of elections in all part of the country. It's like writing JAMB inside JAMB office and then using that to claim that there were no cases of cheating in the whole country. Terrible, terrible assumption.

All i do know is, even my dad (he's a Professor) is disillusioned now. you know why? A ballot box was brought to his university for the lecturers and students to vote. Within 30 mins, security agents caught an INEC official in the back of the INEC van thumbprinting hundreds of ballot papers, and invalidating the ones that didnt vote for PDP. So far, so Nigeria, nothing strange.

Know what shook the old man so much? The INEC Official was a 23 year old girl. and he thought the youth would be different. . .

twinstaiye:
That story is preposterous! I don't believe it one bit. If there is any iota of truth therein, then it may not be the way the BBC relates it. Has anyone ask how come this foreign news carried bad side of us than the good side. Where I voted last Saturday in Abuja, it was so peaceful that even most of us stay in the sun to cast our vote, we even discuss the candidates while on the queue, with some of us even telling each other where our votes will go. How come that was not reported? The truth is, we have had an election, let anyone who wants the end of Nigeria as they have predicted continue to make noise. We will get it right one day, afterall Rome was not built in a day.
Don't you see?! the answer is obvious. Elections are normally supposed to be free and fair and totally peaceful. Why report the mundane? it's when there's violence and destruction that it becomes a hot news item. Honestly, do you want to be told every single time a cow at obasanjo farms is milked? No! But we want to know if that cow develops mad cow disease! So why would it surprise you when stories of violence and oppresion fills the airwaves?

OLAOLUYEMI:
But this foreign medias are fond of picking out the negative story about Africa to capitalise . It is important for us to 1/2 this at the back of our mind.
Wasn't it an American paper that reported on the prisoner abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison? Didnt the Virginia Tech shootings get lots of play in American media? SO let's stop with the 'Western media is targetting africans' story.
We musn't forget that lots of things happen in Africa that are incomprehensible to observers and journalists in the western world, like opposing politicians being arrested at a rally and beaten bloody (zimbabwe), MASSIVE rigging of elections (Nigeria), millitant attacks and kidnappings for ransom (Nigeria) etc. These make great news for their viewers.

At least i sincerely hope that none of y'all are weird enough to believe that Bush and Blair issue orders to CNN and BBC to tarnish africa's image for strategic reasons. if so, then you're no better than those waiting for aliens to come carry them in their spaceships, and second only to those geezers that line their caps with aluminium foil to prevent green martians from reading their thoughts  grin

I think TayoD said all that needed to be said.  You really need to let logic kick in before talking.
And quit the childish bravado. forget about lagos, anyways, 7 Huge men in Port Harcourt will force you to vote anyday.

@TayoD
it's exactly lik eyou said, man! I went out to vote, got to the polling booth, the ballot paper was placed on the table right there in front of the INEC official and she told me to thumb print. the guy before me wanted to vote in secret, he wasn't allowed. When it got to my turn, the guys crowded around me and told me in a menacing voice "i hope say na PDP u wan vote?"
Seeing as i woulda voted for Yar'Adua anyway, i voted for PDP and i tried to leave. The guys told me i must vote for PDP for senate too. I told them i didnt knwo th eguy for PDP and i was going to abstain from voting for anybody for the senate as i couldn't vote for someone i didnt know. Instantly they crowded in on me, and the leader told me that "You don vote correct for president, the president sef na im go rule alone? abeg vote PDP for senate jo! Abi u no wan democracy?"

I place great value on my state of health and i'm don't really care to lose my front teeth. i voted for PDP for senate. till date, i dunno who the guy is, if na Cliffor Orji sef, i no know!

It is very sad to know that we still have some people who beleive all that the read or hear on CNN/BBC about AFRICA and the ARABs ( and the Islamic countries) Listen this people are self centred and are out their to paint the image of our country and continent red .

I read that and I was gutted, to hell with them. Nigeria is here to stay and what we need is stability more than anything else at this crucial time.

LONG LIVE NIGERIA
Conspiracy theorist idiots like you are part of the reason why Nigeria never progresses, choosing to bury your head in the sand and blame others for you/our misfortune.

I myself was 'forced' to vote for PDP in a 'secret' ballot where i voted under the watchful eyes of 7 huge men and the INEC official.

i think we are still in a state of confusion, why must we point fingers at each other? well let those that believe in that keep pointing even when it is not helping matters. as for Oprah, do you know she is a lost african that has refused to trace back her heritage, instead insult and downgrade her heritage? i have never listened to Oprah and hear her say anything good about Africa as a whole. she is a big and total disgrace to all africa, what has she contributed to this same africa she is keen on disgracing and insulting? you can be rich and at the same time not be useful to the world, she keeps spending what she has within the rich circle. i don't blame her, she calls africa, GOD FORSAKING CONTINENT. and now you aspect good words from her? too bad, she even said in one of her shows that africa is where all dieases came from, i wish i could kill her, well i don't have the power but i know she has someone to answer to once she is dead like any other man or woman on planet earth with no kobo taken with her on the journey.

Because i am the self proclaimed Master of the Myou Jinsoga style of fighting (created after several sessions of Tekken watching Jet Li movies and way too many Mangas)!

and because i can go on Nigerian forums and unashamedly blow my own trumpet. . cos it sure as hell ain't my modesty and humility grin

Seriously though, we're all special in own own wonderful way.

@Sista
eveyone wants easy money. Most of us have to work for it. Hell, everyoen should aspire to easy, honest money. That's efficiency for you, getting the money with minimal stress.
No matter how silly people are, you forget one important fact; the money stolen from them is their hard earned cash. Theirs! Should i repeat that word for you again and again until you get the point? It belonged to her! and she damn well worked for it. so no matter what happened, it's a terrible crime to make off with someone's life savings.

There are hundreds of scams out there, and so many deliberately target genuinely generous people with calls for donations to fake charities. What's so bad about falling for the lottery scam anyway? I mean, your email winning a lottery you didnt enter for isn't plausible, but it sure is possible. and that's why many naive people fall for it.
There must be ZERO TOLERANCE to internet fraud. by removing some of the blame off the 419 guys (to transfer to the victims) you must start asking yourself what your role in the fight against 419 currently is; Are you a part of the cure, or are you a part of the disease?

and that's the question we must ask ourselves. because the truth is, 419 is destroying our youth, our morals. Our only hope for progress was to win the battle against corruption. We're losing that battle now. The old theives are too set in their ways, and our youth, our future have their eyes firmly fixed on Hummer Jeeps to be any use.
Besides, i'm tired of reiterating this point; the home videos we show on Africa Magic do as much damage to our image as this show might have done (according to y'all)

Finally: It amuses me when we scoff and say the whites are gullible. at least i'm sure that's the same way they'd look at us and laugh for believing in witches coming to 'press' us at night. And unlike us naijans, they ain't scared of mermaids grin

i stand against fraud 100% , and will never condon fraud in anyway but nigerians, let us reason together , i live and work in the UK. i look back at my mates i left in the uni in year 3 , they all just graduated 2 years ag while i came over here, started from the scratch and finished 3 years ago including my masters.

In nigeria , when graduates finish they look for job by all means ,,i know this because my friend has been hunting for about 2 years now , in that situation , what do you expect someone like that to do considering the fact that their family may not be financially well, how do you expect them to live , not every one can work and not everyone can steal, its not too easy for nigerian graduates and that is why i can never throw insults at whoever is doing illegal business, after all they know the risk so if they get burnt , well thats their business
and you ibo boy coming here to declare that u are yahoo yahoo is somethin you should not be proud to say, oyinbo too do fraud but they wil never brag about it and that is the only problem i have with the writer so be careful
years ago, when there wasn't much 419 in naija, people like him would have turned to armed robbers instead. i'm glad you're so understanding. it's my prayer that when armed robbers come to your house and shoot someone you love, you can easily see things from the robber's point of view; he needs to make a living grin

Oprah should be ashamed of herself
did they talk about the fact that those being scammed are greedy to reap where they did not sow, not that am in support of naijaguys doing these things that ruin our image
but when they are discusssing it they should consider the other side of the story
Greed's not a crime in any constitution in the world. show me proof that it's a crime anywhere and i'll remain chastened. I wonder how you guys generalise about greed, who told you that all the scams Nigerian's perpetrate require the victim to be 'greedy'. The Hurricance Katrina scams, the Churches and Orphanages scams, are the victims greedy? or is it a crime to be soft-hearted?
There's no single logical reason to consider someone who falls for the 'inheritance' scam as being greedy. Go and read Charles Dickens' Novels again, as well as many classic english novels. You'll see that inheriting money from a long lost, distant relative was usually the high point of the stories, the exceptional stroke of good luck. I cannot for the life of me see anything greedy in accepting without doubt news that you've recently inherited money.
Also, taking the lottery scams, i wonder why you people feel that these guys should automatically know it's a scam. So many people are really naive, and so many people have unlimited faith in the power of the internet.
When we stand aside and laugh at white men for falling prey to these scammers, we need to ask ourselves how many Nigerians pump their hard earned life savings into 419 'pastors' and 'prophets' and 'prayer warriors'. . .

ono:
That's my beef with Oprah here. She has no right whatsoever to paint my country black because of some internet fraudsters. She should have quietly alerted the authorities in charge, of these frauds being perpetrated over the net in Nigeria, and she would have earned all of my respect if she had done that. Instead, she went on air and called all of us Nigerians low life thieves.
That's what a Nigerian would do. every man for himself. But she's an American, and a proud one at that. When you see many people falling prey to a dedicated band of theives in Nigeria, what do you do? Isn't the smartest ( and most patriotic ) thing to do is to alert the general public so people are warned about the dangers? Instead you expect her to quietly inform the authorities. That's the kind of attitude we need to change in Nigeria, that's why if i'm lying down bleeding by the side of the road, i'm 1000 times more likely to be rescued by a New Yorker than a Nigerian. When a thief comes to your street, don't you loudly warn the neighbours so the thief can't hit them?
be honest with yourself. your internet fraudsters are the one putting Nigeria in the hot seat, and i can bet you've never bothered to confront any of them. THEY are the traitors. yet we tolerate them. We have no right to condemn Oprah, cos we all have friends who are heavily into 419, and we all know that silence means complicity.
Politics › Re: Nigeria's Image Was Badly Damaged On Oprah Today! by texazzpete(m): 1:54pm On Apr 17, 2007
It's so sad to see what passes for intelligent discussion these days. It's a shame we haven't been able to avoid the brainless, knee-jerk condemnation of Oprah's show just because she reported on 419 scams in Nigeria.
The truth is, Oprah's audience is composed mainly of americans, and she has to tailor her shows and the issues she reports to things that affect Americans. So why are most of you asking why she isn't reporting on rape and murder in south africa? Or violence in Zimbabwe? Let's put it this way; how many of y'all spared a thought for the starving millions in Somalia when you were eating breakfast this morning? We focus on what concerns you, and even if Nigerian 419 isn't the biggest crime happening in the US, it's still a VERY SIGNIFICANT crime and concern to anyone who has a brain.

Trust Nigerians! We insist on burying our heads in the sand without addressing the problems. We've got a serious problem. Good Lord, are you people blind? Do you ever go to internet cafes and see how many people are there doing 419? Most of y'all are just too blind, spouting loads of crap about the victims getting their just desserts just because they were 'greedy'! Meanwhile, we're building a nation where youths are driven to unfairly obtain great wealth without working for it. How then is Nigeria supposed to get better? Yet you come masquerading as patriots here, dissing oprah for doing what she's supposed to do.

The Nigerian economy will never reach the dizzying heights you guys optimistically (and unrealistically) predict. Even if we do reach that level, 419 guys have shown that they are never satisfied with just a couple of millions. Their greed is insatiable. As long as easy pickings exist, they'll never stop.
that's why it must be made a lot harder for them to 'collect' money. With shows and exposes like these, more and more people will know never to trust people online. when these guys are spending far more money on browsing than they collect then no one will tell them before they go back to school. Until then, there must be a Zero-tolerance for 419 in Nigeria.

I'm pretty sure most of you that have been dissing Oprah and people who publicise these scams have never worked a day in your life. because the truth is, hard working Nigerians have nothing but contempt and beef for these 419 boys that refuse to do a day's honest labour. I'm not affected by this myself (perhaps because i'm a relatively high income earner) but how do you think a worker in UBA that works 6 days a week, 12 hours a day and earns a low pay to feel when lazy bums in his area are driving illegally gotten cars? There ought to be reward for honest labour, and by tolerating these 419 guys we really are discouraging honest Nigerians.

There's even a measure of hypocrisy in our thinking. Why is it Okay for Nigerians in the UK to blare out Nkem Owoh's 'I go chop your dollar', for movies on Africa Magic to freely depict Nigerians as ritualists and fraudsters and yet we find it so easy to condemn others for reporting on the very real rot and corruption in our society?

Finally, let's hear no more about the victims' greed justifying their exploitation. After all, we all condemn the slave trade now, but i'm pretty sure at least 20% of the slaves obtained from Africa were lured to the slave ships with promises of fantastic gifts. Does that make it alrigh since they were arguably greedy?
