why were we even excited to play Uganda?
Ghana just played Austria and they're playing BRAZIL next! And we dare call ourselves the Giant of Africa, na only to play Mali and Uganda and the likes that we know.

NFA sucks! Super Eagles suck!

Heck, even I probably suck too grin

@lewa
I can't see anything incredulous in the british side of the story. i'll bet my money the Iranians are just trying to divert attention from the upcoming security council votes.

The British naval personnel in question were out there inspecting an Iraqi vessel. it's doubtful that both an Iraqi vessel and a British vessel would intentionally stray into Iranian waters without permits.

Niger Delta Millitants Kidnap 9 Expatriates!

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=73747

Normally i wouldn't have posted on this issue, so i don't get tagged as an 'agent of opression' by Irate ND people here, but this is dumb! I mean, 8 of the kidnapped guys were working on a major road project, the Niger Delta Warri-Portharcout Superhighway. this is supposed to link Delta, Cross River , Bayelsa and Rivers states, through Warri and Ughelli to Port-Harcourt!

I mean, why work to disrupt something beneficial to the area simply because of greed? Stupid people!
Politics › Re: Yaradua's Assets - N500 Million: Could It Be True? by texazzpete(m): 3:07pm On Mar 24, 2007
it's sad that someone would think N500million is small money. that's half a billion Naira, and it's not easy to make that legally in Nigeria.

Health › Re: Researchers Develop Malaria-resistant Mosquito by texazzpete(m): 11:20am On Mar 24, 2007
99% of those we know who have had malaria are fit, healthy people and they recover. I don't know anybody who has died from starvation, does that mean the pics we see of shrunken people in somalia and other famine striken areas are fake?

From Wikipedia
Malaria is a vector-borne infectious disease that is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions. It causes disease in approximately 400 million people every year and is the cause of between one and three million deaths annually, mostly among young children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Malaria is not just a disease commonly associated with poverty, but is also a cause of poverty and a major hindrance to economic development.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaria

I know people who have died from malaria. Go ask any doctor pal of yours and hear the answer. Millions die yearly from this disease alone.

babasin:
How come same thing did not happen in USA in the 40s?

Africa should reject this GM mosquitoes, because nobody can show that these will not mutate into another dreaded diesease in africa in another 50yrs!
It's daft thinking like this that allowed polio to regain a foothold in Nigeria. Shebi after the Northern Governors said the polio vaccine was a jewish plot, they refused the immunizers access to the people.
Try hunting down every patch of stagnant water, every drain, every breeding ground for the mosquitoes. You'll never get even half of them.

babasin:
Rather, we should go for eradicating Mosquitoes; it need Political will but OBJ is busy fighting Atiku.
Who told you that malaria is solely a Nigerian problem? in fact, in terms of deaths we get off pretty lightly when it comes to malaria compared to much of central and east Africa. SO Obj and Atiku should stop fighting and comb all of africa, killing all mosquitoes abi?

Christianity Etc › Re: Jesus: The Son Of God, Or God? by texazzpete(m): 9:40am On Mar 24, 2007
WHether or not you believe Jesus Christ is God, whether or not you believe in the trinity or not, obey God's commandments and you'll go to Heaven to be with God, which is the reason we're all in this at all.

I hate it when we quibble over things that we need not quarrel over!
Love thy neighbour as thyself, and Love God above all others. If you truly Love God, you'll keep his commandments.

That's it! Whether you're Jehovah's Witness, Catholic, Mormon, Anglican etc if you do that you'll be saved. I'm always surprised to see Christians engage in unnecessary arguments like "Was Christ really born on december 25th?"
Phones › Re: Which Phone Has 3g? by texazzpete(m): 8:16am On Mar 24, 2007
Lots of phones are 3G compatible. You don't have to get the Nokia N93 (which is pretty expensive for many people). Just search Google for the answer.
It's a pretty lazy question, if u ask me grin

@eunisam
If you can't perform this simple mathematics, i dunno what to say to ya!

@olta
Since when did free MMS become nonsense, especially when you could actually send a message (like SMS) through MMS. Just because you don't use this feature doesn't mean it isn't useful to others.

@cabali
Celtel seems to be improving, at least i'm less worried about their future plans. However, i do think we'll all get burnt by the 3G pricing. They've got to make their cash back from the huge investment!
Any idea about the roll out? I'm glad all 3 companies won the license, so we can actually see some competition in this arena. I'll switch to the company offering the cheapest HSDPA 3G! Hope it's Celtel sha.
Family › Re: Men Not Wanting To Get Married by texazzpete(m): 2:17pm On Mar 23, 2007
The guy obviously has problems with commitment, and that could (like some have said) be explained by his parents' divorce. It's a well known fact that children can get traumatised by bad marriages/divorces etc.

That said, if it's a well known fact, why do we still get the knee-jerk condemnation of this guy by most NL girls? The guy needs help, not abuses!

it's a typical Nigerian misconception that just cos naijans don't visit shrinks as often as we see 'em do in Yankee movies, Naija ppl are immune to mental troubles. Get this guy a good shrink and he'll be proposing in good time grin
Phones › Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by texazzpete(m): 2:08pm On Mar 23, 2007
glad 2 hear that!
Any word on the pricing scheme for 3G? Even if it's just a hint/rumor?

Personally, i'd suggest the 3 networks go for an affordable fixed rate. If they try price it as a premium service (like Glo's Blackberry) they'll fail so fast, !

Perhaps a fixed rate of at most 10K a month?

not too sure i need voice calls, just fast HSDPA data transfer and browsing!

not sure u got me well.
i know there was testing of 3G in PH, i even posted here on NL that i regularly got UMTS 3G network on my fone in PH at one time. I'm talking about GPRS, which was sure supposed to have been operational long since on the celtel network in both Benin and PH. Benin works ok, PH sucks big time.

also, does Celtel have any plans for postpaid subscribers? They have higher tarrifs than the other competing networks?
Phones › Re: Celtel Slashes Tariffs: Now The Cheapest! by texazzpete(m): 12:37pm On Mar 23, 2007
Still on the fence as far as Celtel is concerned. I'm a postpaid subscriber and i'm pretty sure these plans don't include people on that plan. Already, Celtel postpaid subscribers pay more than their MTN and Glo counterparts.
Also, with the introduction of GPRS rates on par with prepaid subscribers, Celtel's already ABYSMAL GPRS service will be even more bogged down.

cabali seems to be in the know as far as Celtel is concerned. Can he or anyone else please tell me why Celtel GPRS hardly ever works in Port Harcourt? This is supposed to be a priority area and it sucks that my GPRS works like magic in lagos and Benin, but when i re-enter PH it never goes. even when i manage to connect it never browses.

I use a PDA phone and i rely on GPRS to download my yahoo and gmail mails to pocket outlook. This works seamlessly in most areas of Lagos, and benin, but it's useless in PH.
Abeg, someone tell these assholes to fix this ASAP or i take this to the newspapers. I can't justify averaging phone bills of 25k monthly and still get shafted by Celtel.

My reservations aside, i've heard good things about your show. I still have problems with where i think you're headed to, but i'll apologize for comments calling your talents as a journalist in question.
Gaming › Re: Wanted: Video Gamers by texazzpete(m): 12:08pm On Mar 19, 2007
We'll see how this turns out, perhaps it'd have been better if you didn't call for addiction etc. All i've been saying is IMHO anyone 25+ that plays games dusk to dawn has to be psycho, if you insist you aren't putting this kind of thing out for show, then good for you. Will see if the actual show gives me a change of mind.

toluwalomo:
Mr pete, you need to take out time to read and not fly into conclusions. Where did i mention that my story was to push the stereotype that gamers were puerile?

I am a video gamer myself and pretty much older than you. So that is an explanation in itself.

Because I am seeking video gamers you assume you know my story slant.

I cannot remember showing you my journalistic templates.

If you are sore about the state of gaming in Nigeria. You have the chance to change it.

If you not game for my feature. Well then don't send wrong misconceptions to people who are interested.

Button the lip!
Let me quote your earlier post for you, since you seem to be suffering from a temporary case of amnesia.

toluwalomo:
I want to do a feature on video game players in Nigeria. I want to hook up with a real addict (25 upwards) that is the slant I want to give the story, so it is important I stay in that range.

It will be nice if I can thro in a female who knows her way round a keypad too.

I am talking a game psycho here with a couple of consoles, a horde of games and a dusk to dawn addiction to match.
You want to promote a feature on gamers in nigeria, a feature you plan to broadcast to the world at large and yet you seek for a '25yr and above gamer who sits down at home all day gaming from dusk to dawn' (your words!) and you think you aren't reinforcing whatever stereotype people have about video gamers in nigeria?
You aren't seeking video gamers here, you're seeking for that niche breed of game addicts (you said that so yourself!). anybody with half a brain knows that addiction in all forms is bad, and to deliberately choose to use a video game addict (and even worse, a relatively old video game addict) in your portrayal, that means you're really out to reinforce all negative perceptions people have about we all that game sporadically, and purely for recreational purposes.

Even if i was 'sore about the state of gaming in nigeria' , your program (which, as you say, seeks to depict a mature man who instead of working productively, plays videogames all day) would only serve to exponentially worsen the situation. After all, when you show a slack jawed 28year old man who exists only to satisfy his 'dusk to dawn addiction' how many parents would go out to buy their kids games?

It's only a few days since your first post and you seem to have forgotten what you posted there. Even a quick glance at the top of the page would have shown you the folly in your last post. What kind of journalist are you? Creative or confused?

Dude. no one cares if you're older'n me. If you're an addict, film yourself!

I wonder which kind of 'creative journalist' you are if all u can think of for a naijan video gamer feature is ways to reinforce the brainless stereotype of the immature gaming addict.
there's so much more to report on the naijan gaming scene. video game industry already surpasses the movie industry in sales in the US, and it's snowballing in naija too. instead all u can think of is to seek out some old, slack-jawed loser game addict.

wanna do a feature on game addicts? interview old geezers that sit around all day playing draughts!

Vista compatible doesnt always mean it can handle the Aero interface perfectly. as long as a system can run the lo-fi version of vista, it could be slapped with a vista compatible sticker.
It's terrible if you review an entire OS in just a few minutes. Your pal needs to try out vista for a couple of days before forming an opinion, sadly most vista reviewers are already biased,
